Client preview versus viewer

Hello all,
I'm interested to know which report settings are customisable by report users/in the report viewers.
For that purpose I have downloaded a trial version of CR.
Are their the same customization possibilities in the CR viewer as in the CR2008 client preview?

Adjusting preferences in Preview for viewing pdfs

I would like to have the option to view the 1st page of my pdf next to the second page - not on its own (eg currently, for a 5 page document, mine only shows up as page 1, then p2+3, then P4+5. I would like it to show up at p1+2, then P3+4 then P5, etc. I know how to click between 1 page, and 2 pages and 2 pages continuous, but the 1st page is always on its own for all options.....I understand that in Adobe, you can set preferences for page set ups for viewing your pdf, which includes showig the 1st page with the next one:

In Preview's View Menu there is PDF display.
The Two Pages option places two pages side by side.
However I have found it is not consistent with different PDFs.
(I also set the Preferences to 50% for PDF display)

It seems to works once you are past the first page (Although I do have a 2 page document where it does not work).

USB Pointer problems with Preview slideshow view

I often give talks for which my slides are in PDF format (typically produced using LaTeX). Under Mountain Lion I could open the relevant PDF in Preview Slideshow View and click between slides using a Logitech pointer (Model R-RB5). Since updating to Mavericks, however, the pointer will no longer advance slides. It seems to work as expected to move between pages if Preview is not full-screen, or if it's in full-screen mode, just not in slideshow mode (and full-screen mode isn't ideal for giving talks). All seems to be fine in Adobe Reader, but I prefer Preview for one or two reasons, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

My biggest problem in preview 4.0 is it freezes while trying to view large images across four apple LCD's. Sometimes I see a gray screen.

CLIENT point of view

I am a SAP BW consultant just started and willing to learn from Other expereiences.
I want to know certain things which might have occured to so many of you
1. In an ERP environment, How SAP BW migration from other External Data Warehouses will benefit to the Customer in terms of Improving his Profitablilty or Increasing the Stock Index in the MACRO level.
2. Do we have a comparison statement kind of a thing vis a vis Other ERP tools which strongly suggest SAP BW has an edge over others.
3. How one can convince the Client in case if he agrees to have a Netweaver 2004S and BW implementation but still wants to use the Other Multi Legacy Systems Synergistically for some reasons or other / simply got used for so long
which really impact the scope of Design and Implementations for both the Service Provider as well as the Client.
4. I really want to play with the Data available in the Landscape to effectively make best use of it and project to the Client a Transformation which he can expect from Multi Dimenstion. Show me the direction.
5. Suggest me a logical way to only Understand SAP BW without any diversions so as to Concentrate working on the SAP BW environment and also appreciate the Client Point of View or Satisfaction.

Answers to your questions:
1. BW is data warehouse tool which has reporting and analytic capabilities. It also has the capability of engaging SEM with it. Which means that BW is a veery powerful toll for a company to use if they want to do a better analysis on past data and help top executies make dicision and also with the help of SEM there capability of forcasting is improved to a great extent. Accurate forcasting is the key to better business and high profits.
2. It really depends on the need.CAgnos needs lot of memory as it copies the data in the front end for more flexibilty in reporting. SAP BW is good with respect to SAP R/3. Other areas (Interface with other sources) It is evolving in better manner.Other Data warehousing tools more maintenance man power and big team to implimenting. And all components like sourcing , Configuring and reporting does not depend on single product. BW has all the components available with in it.Depends on customer needs you have decide.
3. Not sure abt it.
4. Data modeling is a SAP course(TBW30) on its own and cannot be explained in a one liner. If you have a specific case then may be we can have a look at it.
5. I would suggest you go through the SAP trainign material . That is a step by step guide to you.

Activating Toolbars in Preview PDF view

By default the Acrobat toolbars are disabled in the Preview PDF view. How do I turn the toolbars on?

In Designer 7 there was a button to click to show the toolbars but I can't find it's equivalent in 8.2.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:

        The test results are on the Clipboard.
        Please close this window.
[Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

Is there a way to fix this?

Do you have an example that someone could look at? I wouldn't be surprised if most PDFs you found were gibberish. PDF is a print format and is really only designed to be printed out and read by a human. Constructing a PDF with real Hebrew Unicode would be a rare find. Here is one example I found by passing the Hebrew word for "Hebrew" in Hebrew in Google. This is a valid PDF. I have no idea what it says.

Making client previews..

Since the mp4 encoding option was removed It's quite a detour make client previews using AME.
Rendering to to lossless format and let AME pick that up is quite a waste and sending AE comp to AME directly takes a lot of time, memory and longer encoding times among other problems.
Can something be done to fix that workflow? Are there 3th party mp4 encoders other then quicktime? I've tried moving the encoder files from cc to cc2014 but no luck there..

I have used the AME to render client previews directly from the AEP project files since AME was introduced. This works because I have never produced a project for a client using Ray-traced rendering. It also works because I can send a comp to the AME, start it rendering, and keep working in AE on more projects. This results in NO down time waiting for renders. The days are long gone when you could bill a client for rendering previews. For final delivery and for archiving I set up the Render Cue to render to a 10 or 12 bit lossless 444 master and drop those in a watch folder for the AME when I leave the office at night and render my deliverables while I sleep. AME is, if properly utilized, a great addition to the workflow. It's the only way to render things from Premiere Pro, which is where most of my final deliverables come from because I use AE to create shots and composites and almost never produce a comp that is more than a few seconds long. All editing is done in Premiere Pro, sound mixing is done in Audition via dynamic link, and the final color grade for the most part is done in Premiere Pro or Speed Grade.
If AME rendering directly from AEP files slows down AE or is really slow in AME then you need to check your memory settings. If you happen to be creating a project that would seriously benefit from MP rendering in AE then you are better off rendering a lossless production master or DI in AE because AME does not use MP rendering.
I have found very few projects that did not benefit from this workflow. Any projects that do not benefit from this workflow are rendered directly in AE to a DI (digital intermediate) using a frame based 10 or 12 bit codec and 444 color at a minimum. BTW, as much of a fan as I am of Apple, Quicktime, in it's current version is a mess and I don't use it for any rendering or encoding or compressing. AME is almost as good as any of the third party compression software out there and it's free with PPro or AE so I have long abandoned use of 3rd party compressors but feel free to explore them.
BTW, the next version of AE and PPro are just around the corner. It sounds like you can expect some major speed increases with these new versions.

Preview versus Real View Not the Same, Site Definition Errors - Dreamweaver CS4

I am having trouble working on sites where it seems that Dreamweaver wants me to specify different file locations for various "includes" depending on whether I want to view the site as a preview (F12) vs. on a local test server vs. on the real website server. Note I am using Dreamweaver CS4 (ver. 10) on Windows, my local test server is Apache running via an Xampp installation on Windows, and my production server is also Apache, running at Hostgator. I am building a fairly basic html site using SSI via SHTML files, rather than PHP or a more sophisticated method. Here is what seems to be happening:
1. In my index.shtml file I call, for example, a subheader file called "header-nosub-menu.inc.htm." I have my site definitions set to "relative to document root." Using the insert -> SSI command, Dreamweaver links to the file with the following: My first problem is that, as specified, the subheader.menu.inc.htm file is not found and the preview gives me an error. I get the same error if i try to display the file on my local test server (http://localhost/domainname). However, if I upload the file to my production server, it seems to work fine. If I change the include command to: #include virtual="./includes/subheader.menu.inc.htm," by manually inserting the "./" to change the directory reference, then the file seems to work in all three situations Which is the correct directory specification, and why is Dreamweaver not generating it automatically?
While I can make the manual changes in the directory specifications, I am concerned that if Dreamweaver is making an error in this instance, it may generate more serious problems that are harder to find later.
2. The second issue seems to involve the Site Definition file configuration.I get an error message when I set up my site definition in what seems to be the correct way, specifically, using the following specifications:
Local Root folder: "C:\htdocs\domainname-dev\"
http address: "http://www.domainname/"
testing server folder: "C:\htdocs\domainname-dev"
url prefix: "http://localhost/domainname-dev"
The error message is: "The site url prefix for the testing server does not match the site url prefix specified in the http address for the site."
However, when I change the testing server url prefix to one that does not yield an error message ("http://localhost") I then have problems with the preview (F12) display. Specifically, instead of a preview request generating the following url: "http://localhost/domainname-dev/TMPm393xnclqu.shtml" I find that it generates the following: "http://localhost/TMPm393xnclqu.shtml" The so called incorrect definition seems to be the correct one, but why is Dreamweaver not recognizing it as such? Am I making a error somewhere else in my configuration?

I wasn't suggesting that you use virtual hosts (although I have defined about 50 virtual hosts on my own development machine). I was trying to understand the url you listed:
http://www.domainname/
Without a virtual host definition, that would have no meaning and could not point to anything, unless you simply were leaving off the TLD in the example. (.com, .net, etc)
I often use the PHP $_SERVER superglobal to define paths and handle differences between the development environment and the remote server environment. Examples:
DOCUMENT_ROOT: D:/ZendServer/Apache2/htdocs/website/ranch (machine path)
REQUEST_URI: /topic/calendar (url parameters)
SCRIPT_NAME: index.php
HTTP_REFERER: (the url of the script preceding the current script)
HTTP_HOST: (this is the domain name. It is very useful for distinguishing between the local and remote environments)

How to print the report directly without previewing (report viewer) using c# windows application

This is only a simple sales receipt application that uses dgv and textboxes to push its data to dataset to the crystal report, a simple one but there are instances that it is very slow.
But I'm having trouble implementing this using SSRS, since I'm only new to this one, wherein I created the report using report wizard, with two button options inside the form for print preview or direct print selection. Actually, it is very easy to implement
with print preview because it uses reportviewer. My problem is that how can I print the report directly without using a reportviewer?

After some further studies with ReportViewer controls and with the use of this tutorial @ : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms252091.aspx, which helps me a lot on how to print a report without using a report viewer, I found out what is missing
with my code above and helps solve my question.

Using Preview to view multiple images in their own window

So I'm using OS Tiger with Preview 3.0.9 and have selected "Open each image in its own window" in the Preview preferences. And this works, at least for the first 20 or so images. Then it automatically starts to open all subsequent images in the last window as little thumbnails that can be clicked on. When using my newer computer with Snow Leopard I am able to open (seemingly) unlimited windows, each showing its own image. However on this older maching, even with the correct preference setting, I can't view more than a few images at a time in their own window. I hate having all of the images grouped in a single window as it makes it very difficult for me to compare things. I have to keep clicking back and forth, back and forth. I want everything to be in its own window and I will choose to hide or have them floating onscreen, etc.
Is there a limit to how many this version of Preview will show?

Hi Steve, in 10.4.11 I just dragged 223 jpgs to Preview, all opened on one long page or series of pages.
I'd get GraphicConverter, all 223 opened in a seperate window, but you can use it's powerful Browse function to preview & open the ones you want...

Preview: problems viewing icons in sidebar

I have some PDFs that I have OCRed. When I view them in Preview, in the sidebar, I don't get icons of the pages, but a garbled table of contents view instead. It looks like somewhere in the OCR process, a table of contents was created, but it is filled with gibberish. Is there a way to force Preview to show the icons of the pages?

on the sidebar at the bottom there is a drop down button allowing you to select "Thumbnails... ToC... and Annotations". That should do it for ya. It's the middle button.

Colors off in Preview when viewing JPG's with sRGB profiles

I have a 30" Dell monitor and my display preferences are set to use the calibrated profile for it. When I view JPGs images in any color managed application such as Preview the colors are horribly off. They are kind of dull, unsaturated, pale. JPG's that don't have sRGB profiles show up fine.
I can fix the problem in photoshop by opening the image and then doing a save for web which strips the profile information off of the jpg.
If I use sRGB as my monitor's profile colors are consistent across all applications but the problem is the colors are really bad. Extremely over contrasty and very dark.
What's going on with my color profiles?

If you're keen about running the right profiles - please don't mess up the way you do. The sRGB profile that you're using is showing a narrower color space (value 0-16 of blacks are out). The sRGB profile is mainly used for consumer monitors in the cheap end where contrast conditions are worse that expensive and professional displays to present contents in a similar way across manufacturers. If you should use any predefined color profile, please use Adobe (1998) profiling.
best practive is calibrating your monitor with a good calibrator and use these profiles.
In System Preferences you should set up the calibrated profile and the same goes for all Adobe apps under Color Settings.

Your issue with Preview is most likely due to erroneous setup in System Settings. otherwise try and disable Dithering in Preview.
And don't use Save for Web if you intend to keep at least a minor part of your colors in your images. Use TIFF's where possible (without 'upgrading' images from compressed formats such as JPEG's, GIF's, etc.)

Preview cannot view some graphs correctly in PDF file

Just an issue when I'm viewing pdf files with preview. A graph, I think it might be drawn with tikz or something, cannot be opened correctly in Preview, yet shown correctly online or in other pdf viewer. I'm thinking if there is some issue with preview when handling complicated graphs, or if there is anything I can do about it...

If a PDF doesn't display properly in Preview, your only recourse is to install the bloated and ugly, but free, Adobe Reader. It may or may not do a better job of rendering the file.
