Client printer lists contain numerous duplicate printers

Since upgrading our Mac OS X Server software to v10.4 (now updated to v10.4.4) the printer lists on client computers in our student computer labs (running Mac OS X 10.3.9) contain multiple duplicate copies of the available printers.
There are so many duplicates on some computers that the printer list takes a couple of minutes to open. One printer in particular, a HP Laserjet 1320, seems to appear duplicated more than the other printers but they all seem to be affected to some degree.
I have tried deleting all the duplicates but the problem just recurs. Has anyone else suffered this problem or found a fix for it - it is becoming very annoying for many of our users when they attempt to print.

  • Managed Clients and printing list

    Hi,
    we have discovered the following problem.
    When a user logs in on a machine that other users have used before, the new user sees all the printers that were assigned to the users before.
    They are NOT displayed in the Systemsettings, but ARE displayed in the printing list thats used while printing.
    It seems that CUPS only adds printers and does not care if the user should see them or not.
    Deleting them in CUPS and relogging does the job, but this is not a clean way to handle this.
    Can anyone help?

  • Can't edit printer list, can't set up printers - Powermac G5, OSX 10.3.9

    Hi,
    I recently installed a new hard drive to our Powermac G5 and reinstalled OSX 10.3.9. While we had no problems printing previously I can't even install a printer now.
    When I tried to print for the first time it automatically detected the Konica Minolta Bizhub printer we have, however it used a generic post script driver.
    As soon as I saw that, I tried to install the printer properly, by doing this:
    Click system preferences > click print and fax > click set up printers. Clicking set up printers has no effect. Neither does selecting 'Edit printer list' from the drop down menu of printers below.
    The generic postcript driver will not work for us because there are certain functions that need to be enabled using the manufacturs driver for it to print properly. Consequently when I try and print it doesn't work.
    What I've tried so far:
    1)Restarting the machine. No effect.
    2)Following some advice on the Apple website I have deleted the Library/printers folder, and reinstalled the driver from the Konica website then restarted the machine. No effect.

    A PowerMac G5 running the ancient Panther?

  • C309a printer keeps disappearing from available printers list

    Since I bought this C309a Photosmart Premium printer I have found that after doing a scan or a copy my printer is no longer listed on the available printers list. When I attempt to do regular page printing after a scan or copy a message pops up telling me that I must choose a printer. On the available printers list only "Add Printer" appears. If I reboot the computer then the "HP Photosmart C309 series" appears on the list again and I can print normally again. Does anyone know how to fix this? Does it have anthing to do with the Printer being wirelessly connected to my network? My network always seems to detect it fine, but does scanning or copying break the wireless connection? Any help would be appreciated.

    I am using Windows 8.1 and Excel 2010.  One of my printers is listed twice with slightly different names in the choice of printers when I go to print an Excel spreadsheet.  That same printer is shown only once (and by one of the names used by Excel)

    How do I get the Excel list to duplicate the printers listed under "Devices and Printers", and thus delete the second listing of one of my printers.

    According to your description, my understanding is that Excel 2010 displays duplicate entries of the same printer in printer list. If it is right, this issue might be caused by the third-party program

    I recommend we run Excel with
    Windows clean boot to test.
    Then, we could check if there are residual information with
    registry key.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Devices

  • Dymo Printer shows in Printer list but local drivers cannot be installed

    I connected the Dymo LabelWriter 400 to our PowerMac G5 running OS X Tiger Server via USB, set it up so it printed from the server, then tried to set up client machines. I was never able to install the DLW software from Dymo that enables use of the machine. Print Services have been set up with a queue for the LabelWriter and then switched on.
    On a client machine (Mac mini, OS X Tiger) the Dymo printer can be seen in the Printer list either via Bonjour or by Shared Printers but nothing prints on it because both of these use the Generic Postscript Printer Driver. I tried printing from a simple Text Editor (Text Wrangler) but all that happened was that the printer generated a blank label.
    It seems I cannot install the correct printer driver for the LabelWriter because the printer itself is not connected by USB to the Client machine, and cannot be shared from the server because Tiger server doesn't offer this option, other than through Print Services. When I try to open the DLS software to create a label, the app won't load because it says "it cannot find the printer".
    Any ideas how I can get around this problem? All the Windows PCs on the Network could print to it when it was hosted on a NAS device, but no Macs could.

    I still haven't found a way aroud this issue. I am thinking that perhaps the Dymo is a GDI printer - could this create any potential problems? What if I try to print via a Print Server such as the Netgear PS-121 or the Apple Base Station or whatever it is called?

    I want to pass the default client printer from my forms to reports (10g). Webutil does not have this functionality. Oracle provided me with the java code to do this but being a pl/sql programmer I will have to figure out how to create the bean and implement it in the form which I can do. Since I need this asap I'm thinking someone has done this before. Can anyone help me out?

    With the Print & Fax window open, point your mouse to the empty printer list then hold down Control and then click your mouse. The 'Reset printing system' dialog should appear. Select this and then restart your Mac. Now once restarted, open Print & Fax again and select to add. Select the printer from the default view or enter your network details and then see if the Print using menu has any models listed.

    Hello,
    Please see the last dunning date and dunning level in the customer master.
    This customer must have been dunned very recently. Until you reach next dunning level time limit (for example 14 days) this customer account cannot be considered for dunning.
    If it is a test system, I would suggest go to XD02 and change the last dunning date and dunning level.
    Now try to dun this customer using F150. Make sure the customer is having OVERDUE items. Otherwise post some items with very old date (preferably LAST YEAR or BACK)

    Please check F150_DUNN_01 assigned to your dunning procedure.
    Go through this below path
    IMG> Financial Accounting> Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable> Business Transactions > Dunning>Printout >Assign Dunning Forms
    Select your company code and click the forms for normal dunning procedure
    Now you can see what procedures you assigned to your company code
    May be this information is useful to you

    That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

  • Can't Find printer in printer list

    I'm using Adobe Reader 10.1.4 and can't get it to see the laser printer on the network.  Previous versions worked OK and Word sees it without a problem.  When I try to print a document the print screen shows firstly the default printer which is an inkjet connected via USB and when I click the drop-down all the printers are there except the laser on the network which I want to use.
    The printer has been deleted and re-installed several times, is shown on the printer list in the Control panel as being “ready” and works fine with other packages such as Word.  I have also deleted and downloaded Acrobat several times restarting the PC in between but still it can’t find that particular printer.
    If I take the file to another PC connected to the network it sees the prjnter and prints without a problem.
    I have heard that it is a known problem and that Acrobat has a fix.  Is this right?
    If not, could you suggest how it can be fixed without repeating the above which we have done many times without success.

    I just ran into this exact problem.  In my case, it isn't even a network printer - just a newly installed USB connected printer.  The old printer was uninstalled, and Reader still shows it on its list.  The new printer is installed and doesn't show up on the list.  Other utilties print to it just fine as well.  The printer just doesn't show up on Reader's printer list.  I installed Acrobat and had the same issue.

    I have three Airport Extreme (AE) routers in my home network.
    The main AE is set up for wifi access. The other two are connected by ethernet cables to the main AE. My MacBook Pro connects to the network wirelessly through the main AE. The AE in my office has two HP printers connected to it by ethernet cables. I have a Kodak All-in-one that is connected by USB to my MacBook Pro.
    I reset my printer connections on my MacBook Pro and had to add all the printers back to my printer list. I don't know if I understand what the checkbox "Share this printer on the network" in the Print & Fax System Preferences window is for. My guess is that I don't need to share printers unless they are connected to my MacBook Pro by USB, so I should uncheck the "Share this printer on the network" box for the two HP printers that are connected to the AE. I print to them over the network, but they're not connected directly to any computer. I thought if my MacBook Pro wasset to share them and was shutdown, the printers might not be available to my Mac mini or Dell PC, which connect by ethernet to the office AE (which has the two printers connected to it).
    What should I do?
    For printers connected directly to a Mac (or PC) by USB, check the "Share this printer on the network" box? In my Sharing Preferences, I check "Share Printers."
    For printers connected to the AE by ethernet, UNcheck the "Share this printer on the network" box on my Macs (& PCs?) when I add the printers to my printer list? In my Sharing Preferences, I UNcheck "Share Printers?"

    Question is - will the 2 networks (using auto channel negotiations) exist well in the same house or will there be interference?
    Things will be fine since the AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme will automatically search for a good wireless channel. If you assign a separate name for the wireless network, then devices will need to log in separately to this network. The extending device will need to be configured in Bridge Mode.
    My suggestion would be to configure what is known as a "roaming" network in your question #2. In this case, you would assign the same wireless network name, security and password settings to the extending device and configure it in Bridge Mode.
    The advantage to #2 is that you will be able to walk your laptop from a location near the Time Capsule and as you move close to the extending device, the laptop will automatically switch to pick up the stronger signal from the extending AirPort.
    You are actually creating a separate network in #2, so you have the advantage of maximum bandwidth for both the TC network and the AirPort network.
    Question - does the Airport Express have to be directly connected to the TC or can that connected be through a switched network?
    I'm assuming that you are asking about an Ethernet switch here, correct?  The AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme can connect to the Ethernet switch, or directly back to a LAN port on the Time Capsule, whichever is easier to setup.
    Question 2 - assuming I can connect the Airport Express to the TC over a switched network, will "extending" the network using the Ethernet network still reduce my overall wireless bandwidth?
    Connecting the remote device using Ethernet is by far the best way to extend a wireless network because it maintains maximum bandwidth on the network. This is the way that any good commercial network is designed.
    Post back if you need any tips to get things setup.

  • Unable to load Client print control

    I know this question has been asked and I have read all of the responses.  But, I seem to have a unique problem. 
    I am using Server 2008 r2 sp2 with ie8. And my problem is getting the error Unable to Load Client Print Control on the client machine for reporting services.
    The standard answer here is that the RSClientPrint.cab needs to be loaded on the client machine and installed with a click of the print icon with admin rights.  I have done that as a administrator and the print icon works fine as an adminstrator. 
    However, when I log as a non-admin user, that is when I get the error.  The rsclientprint.dll shows up in the registry, but it just does not work for a non-admin user.
    I have a open ticket with a MSDN tech at Microsoft, but he seems to be at a loss and is not trying very many things that lead me to believe that this can be resolved.
    I am wondering if some else out here has had this problem and got it to work.

    It seems that the non-Administrator users don't have sufficient permissions on the “Downloaded Program Files” folder where the RSClientPrint control is stored. So, please grant to the user:
    1.Open C:\Windows, right-click on the “Downloaded Program Files” folder and click “Properties”.
    2.Switch to the “Security” tab, click “Edit”.
    3.In the “Security” window, click “Add” and add the specific user to the list.
    4.Check the “Allow” box for “Read & execute” permission and click “OK”.
