I am trying to get a feel for alternative methods of client review (instead of just sending QT files). Is there any programs similar to the old Clip Notes option for PDF? Some way for clients to make notes linked to timecode and then perhaps bring that info back into AE or PP as markers?

I use Vimeo for most client reviews. I can make the videos private, there are comment fields and if I need timecode I can overlay it in the proof. I also use YouTube on occasion. Proofs are rendered using the AME presets. I find this the most efficient way to review work. Meetings are held using webX and the whole process is easy and painless. It's much better than trying to host videos on your own site or send them by email.
Behance is also a great tool. Unfortunately my workload has prevented me from taking the time to utilize this tool in any meaningful way since it's release. You know what they say, "The cobblers children have no shoes."

Client Review Premiere Pro CC Output EASILY

Hi I am trying to figure out an easy workflow to allow clients to review a video that I output from Premiere, and make notes - and ideally be able to mark up frames of video to show me exactly where they are talking about. I saw a video of this being done in premiere pro CS5.

I know I can upload an outputted video to the Cloud, and send a link, but that requires the client to download and no way to easily mark it up.
I have looked into Adobe Anywhere, but that seems like an overkill for this need.

Adobe Anywhere is an enterprise solution with high overhead.
CS Review was pulled after a couple of release cycles. I'm not privy to the why's and wherefore's.
Two suggestions:
Have your client install the trial version of Premiere or, probably better still for this purpose, Prelude. Then they can import the video (your encoded output, not the project...) and add markers with their notes--with duration if desired to mark a span. The markers are saved to the clip, so you'll see them when you import the clip into PPRO. Then you can drop that clip on the top track of your working project and walk through the notes.
Go old-school: Burn timecode into the review video, and have the clients reference the timecode in their notes.

Client review of folio

I've been working on a rather large folio with god results. I can review the folio on my iPad and my desktop without any issues. My client doesn't own CS6. He can download the viewer app for his iPad but at this time he wants to review the folio on his MacBook Air.
Do you need to own CS5 or 6 to download the DPS tools and if so is there a free desktop application to view folios?

You need to have CS5 or CS6 to install the DPS tools. Your client should not review your work using the desktop preview tool. It is not an accurate representation of what they will get on the iPad. They should review your work on an iPad.

Spreads removed when Indesign files are posted to Cloud Storage for client review

Although my document is set up with facing page spreads in indesign, when I post it to my cloud for the client to review only single pages are shown. This is going to confuse matters for my client. Any suggestions as to how to solve this problem?

Send them a PDF showing spreads instead of using Creative Cloud previews. They are pretty lame. (They also currently don't show previews for InDesign CC 2014 files.)

Is it possible to have a non-Creative Cloud client review and comment on a shared album?

That's right. This area is pretty new and has changed quickly, so I wouldn't be surprised if it changes to allow other ways of authenticating comments.
For now, you can always set up a dummy account and tell people to log in using that user name and password. If you need more than one person to view a set of images, just duplicate the collection and sync it too (this doesn't mean extra uploading). So, for example, client John might log in using mydummyadobeID and select from the Shoot-John collection, and client David would use the same ID to view the Shoot-David collection.

URGENT - Website files on iPad for client review.

Hello, everyone.
I just tried Air Sharing which is the application I use to transfer files to my iPad but it doesn't allow folders to be transferred.
Tomorrow I have a meeting and would like to use the iPad as a tool to display and navigate through the initial proposed website I have created for a client. The website is contained in a folder created in iWeb but I can't seem to find a way to transfer the whole folder to the iPad.
Is there any way or application you can recommend that would allow me to transfer and then browse the website on the iPad ?

Safari should work. I will not transfer the files in iWeb format but will first publish the files in html format.
Just as I can browse the files using Safari on the iPad if they are hosted by a server I should be able to see them if they are residing in the device's internal drive. The problem I've encountered is finding an application that allows folders to be transferred so that their content and hierarchy can be maintained. All of the ones I have checked only allows single files to be transferred and only one at a time.
Any ideas ?

Client Web Review Videos (Flash CS4)

As part of our video production process, we used to encode client review AVI videos in Flash and publish them from Flash. Once published, I would open the published HTML file with notepad and copy and paste the appropriate Flash related code into a template on our web server. The Flash code would be pasted in an html table cell in the template html file.
This method consistently produced Web review videos that worked fine and played immediately.
The process has changed with CS4. Now Flash doesn't accept and transcode an AVI file. You have to transcode the AVI in Media Encoder and then import the *.flv or *.f4v file into a Flash Project via the Import video function.
Here is the problem I have... The finished product that used to work on our server will now play fine locally, but refuses to play on the server. The server is based on "Free BSD".
I had the server administrator check the MIME types and he entered them last night for flv and f4v files. I haven't had time to try again, but what makes me skeptical regarding the MIME type issue is that Flash, flv or f4v based video exported from Encore play fine on our server.
My thoughts are, it is either an issue related to a Microsoft fault, like the fact that PhotoShop files no longer display preview thumbnails in Windows Explorer, or the problem is related to an extra "hidden" step I am not taking with CS4 in order to make Flash CS4 videos play on a web server.
I have addressed this in the Flash forum. I got one response from another guy having the same problem, but he said has not received any feedback whatsoever that has been helpful in resolving this problem.
My final thoughts are this:
Flash video created in Flash CS4 won't play on our server but the same f4v and flv files created and exported from Encore CS4 will. My suspicion is that In Flash CS4, I have to create an accompanying Java Script file or something, that is published to the server as well... Or possibly I need to install a Flash Extension that enables Flash exported video to play on a server.
You might ask, why use Flash when Encore works. The reason is, Encore isn't flexible with the video controllers. Our clients want to be able to easily scrub to certain points in the review video. Also, I want our review videos to be enclosed within our Website template with our company's navigation buttons.

I've always enjoyed working in Flash. To be really good at it, you need a strong creative right brain as well as a good handle on programming, particularly Java Script and Flash's Action Script. I would need to learn programming to expand my creativity with Flash. Web design can be a frustrating profession. Back in 97' a guy who referred to himself as a scientist, taught me the basics of Web design. He claimed to have developed the technique of "slicing" images and optimizing the pieces individually and placing the image pieces in HTML table cells. He meticulously hand coded all of his clien'ts websites. I remember checking in on one of his masterpiece websites a few years later, only to see things all messed up. The thing basically fell apart. I don't know if it was because the browser I was using didn't read the HTML in a standard way or what. But the site looked terrible. You think we have problems in the video production business... try building websites for a living.
The Flash video my original post is about was created for a producer friend, who's trying to get some people interested in a reality TV series. I tried to make the Web page where the Flash is embedded more interesting by using a jpg background referenced in the HTML using a java script that "stretched" the image to fit any browser window size. I thought the finished page looked great. We tested it on several computers, and everything looked and worked fine. The first important guy to look at the page couldn't see the video, just the background. I took the background out. I got another phone call from someone who said they couldn't see the video and their computer was asking if they started a process and for permission to continue installing a Flash Player update. I said, yes, this is a Flash based video you are about to look at, so go ahead and install the Flash Player update. Then there are people who work in a corporate setting where system administrators restrict certain Windows updates related to media. Other people never install any Windows updates and are running with expired anti-virus software.
I enjoy working with Flash and even occassionally doing some Web design, I'm just glad I don't have to deal with Web compatibility problems day in and day out.

CS Review (client perspective) is 'sticky'

I have just moved from CS2 to CS5, noted the client review tool was missing from premiere pro but pleased to find CS Review.
For a test, I used P.Pro CS5 to export/upload a 16 second SD video sequence at the lowest pre-set rate of 1 mbps and emailed it to myself, as if I was a client.
On opening the recieved email/link, it plays well from start to end, but when clicking on the bar graph to navigate sooner/later in sequence, it freezes.
I put several comments in, and sometimes the 'jump to' commands work and sometimes they don't. On other occasions it seems to jump, but not display the red rectangle.
I am patient between keystrokes and have a broadband connection, and have tried it on both a dual core laptop and windows 7 64bit pc via the web browser (firefox).
Given that this is to be used by clients, who by nature are not always technically minded, it needs to be fluid and easy.
If this 'freezing' and non-responsiveness is typical for video content, it would quickly annoy the client.
Is this a known bug, and is there a fix in the pipline?
Second question - I set up CS live/review within the CS5 software set-up using a personal hotmail address, rather than my business email address.
As this address is used for emailing the workspace, I need to change it to a 'work' email address. I note it can be changed via Home/settings, but as I note it forms part of the logon ID, I don't want to create a conflict and lock myself out.

The rough playback could be a number of factors, but we've seen this issue before with the 10.1 version of the Flash Player that is installed with CS5. Try updating to the latest 10.1 version to see if that smoothes things out.You can get it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
You can update your Adobe ID (email address) from using your home to work email. The best place to this is here:https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm?loc=en_us&nl=1
After you login with your home email address, this page will allow you to update Adobe ID and password, view subscription information and much more.
Note- if you already have a Adobe ID for your work email address it will prevent the conflict since it's already in use. To work around this login using your work address and change the email to one that's not in use. This will clear your work email from the Adobe ID database. Logout and login again with your home address and now you can change it to your work address.

Using PDFs for client proofs

As a graphic artist, I need to send proofs to my clients.
I start with Illustrator files (which also use some Photoshop bitmaps) and send PDF proofs to clients. However, when I send these proofs, I see now that the client can still pull out my vector art if he opens them in Illustrator.
I tried turning off the check box that reads, "Create PDF Compatible File" when I first save the file. I also make sure I save my PDFs as "Smallest" File Size," and make sure the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" box is unchecked. But when I open the PDF proof in Illustrator, the file has one layer but many, many selectable vectors.
Is there a way to protect my art from theft and at the same time let the client review a PDF proof?

Yes, contractually is ideal and I am covered on that account. But once a client is tempted to grab those graphics and reuse them without sending me new business it is unpleasant to enforce without making them a little grumpy. I guess either way I will loose business. Its kind of like locks on doors, they only keep honest people honest.
Exporting to bitmap was the way I was going to go but the PDF preview is nicer to inspect the fine print when zooming in if it remains mostly vector.
Oh well, its a rough world out there. I just wanted to check and see if there was a better solution to this dilemma.

Goof-proof photo gallery for client?

I have a web client, for whom I have created a website, who wants to be able to upload photo documentation of projects they are doing for their clients' review. My client is completely without a clue - so I need a Photo Gallery I can install on their site, but that THEY can administer through a web-based form - no ftp access or anything like that. They'd also like to be able to password-protect the individual albums on the site so that they are only accessible to the particular client the album pertains to.
Any suggestions?

I'm afraid you are overestimating my client's abilities. I need something with a simple html-based form for them to upload their photos, with captions, so that THEIR clients can then go to a "secret" link, enter a password, and see their own project's photos.
I've come to the conclusion that anything I could add to their website would be out of the reach of their web development budget. I think I will suggest they try a pbase account with password protected albums, then try to customize the appearance of the pages for them to mimic their website as closely as possible.

7'x18' Mural Design, Illustrator CS4 will not produce as small printiable PDF to show client

I am designing a 7' x 18' Photo/Graphic mural for a client. The output provider said to work in full size. However, I need a pdf, or any kind of file that will print the image on 8.5x11 paper for client review. I've tried opening the file in InDesign and Photoshop and re-saving but it always wants to be 7x18 feet no matter what format I take it to. ANy suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

CS REVIEW disabled

I've had this problem befoer and am almost ready to go another route with having clients review my footage because this I can't trust CS Review to work. I opened Premiere and in my CS Review window the "sign in" button is greyed out and below it says "This feature is disabled. Please contact your internal IT for information." I have no internal IT. I work remote from my home office. Last time this happened I had updated premiere from a adobe update and to solve the problem I had to uninstall CS 5.5 production premium. This time I did not install any updates. I just opened premiere one day and noticed it isn't working. Anyone have this problem?

I have that problem too. Guess I need to keep using Vimeo for reviews.

Wedding client proofing

Hi all,
I wanted to get an idea what is a generally accepted way of creating jpg images for clients. Particularly the average wedding clients who I give a CD and they will view it on their monitor.
After I finish editing in lightroom I do the final export of my DNG images to jpg and then I do one last look at the final images. JPG, 90%, 10MP, and sRGB, sharpen monitor standard.
When I look at the images I was using the default Windows Photo Viewer because I figure that's what the average person would use to view the images. Windows Photo Viewer renders images awfully!! You can tell it is very compressed because my images look grainer than they did in lightroom.
So I tried switching to Microsoft Office Photo viewer and I realized that they were rendering it in a different color profile (it looks more red and saturated).
I finally switched to Irfran Viewer becuase you can choose the color profile you view the images. By choosing AdobeRGB (which is close to my monitor profile), I was able to view the images almost identically to what lightroom had before export.
This is very frustrating. I experimented with Lightrooms Soft Proof but that didn't really seem to provide insight.
So my final question is, how to people typically export pictures and proof for normal clients? Is the way I am doing it OK?
I understand the client will most likely not have their monitor calibrated and the correct profile in place, but years down the road when calibration because more standardized, I still want my pictures to look they way I had intended them!

To gain more control over how your clients view the images why not use LR's slideshow module and export to PDF. If they don't have Adobe Reader it's simple enough to download and install it. Reader is color managed so the only variable is the customer's display adjustments.
I also agree with Geoff concerning use of 10Mp images for client review. I'd use PDF export to no larger than 1600 x 1200, which is ~2Mp.

Review swf files in review

I produce a lot of banners, amongst other files, for client review. Am I correct that Adobe have missed out SWFs as a supported format? If so, why!!!???

content into a single .EXE unless you were to combine them all into
a massive project and publish that as .EXE. But that could be
fraught with issues.
