Client strategies - Clean client?

Hello
Hope this is the right forum....
I am looking for information on various client strategies, such things as the pros and cons of each strategy.  Things like the Development box having a Config. client and a development client, clean clients etc...  and transporting to QA and Production.
I have searched for white papers but haven't had much luck.
Thanks in advance
Peter

Hi Lisa,
Generally customers will have a client strategy that suits their individual needs.  You can have a config client for entering your config (no business data).  Then you have your data and integrated client.  Then sometimes customers have a sandpit client for playing in.  Then usually in a QA and Production they usually only have 1 client.
Up to you really.
Cheers
Andrew

  • Mass Create PO release strategy

    Hi gurus,
We are undergoing a major re-org. Due to the changes, we are taking the opportunities to delete the current strategies and re-create everything from scratch as part of the strategies clean up too.
But in doing this, we find ourselves facing a tremendious task as we have 1000+ buyers and each buyers, we need approx. 6 strategies to be created. Thus sizing is almost 14 weeks as OMGS do not allow parallel processing.
We attempt BDC recroding by it's not working. We go errors that pre-requisite not set even though our BDC program did go  into that screen. Have any guru here tried or know any feasible mass uploading method to mass create release strategy in the system?
    Thanks.

    Hi all,
    thanks for your respond.
I have found out with the help of my developers that this can be done.
In fact, the original problem that that after we post the release code and go into the set pre-requisite screen, once we come back to the main screen, the recorder put back the release code again and thus SAP detect this a s a new entry and require you to setup the pre-requisite again.
To resolve the above, just make sure in the coding, when you come back from the pre-requisite screen, the coding to set the release code in the screen is not there any more. The 1st entry of the release code (before going into pre-requisite screen or another other screen) will be sufficient in this BDC program.
This speed up RS setup alot. I can upload 494 release strategies in 82 sec. Normal human hand will only be able to post 1 in approx. 5min per strategy (Excluding classification).
Hope you guys find this useful

  • How can I do a clean install of Mac Mail client? ...

... without doing a clean reinstall of the entire OS?
I've been wrestling with my Mac Mail client all day and am pretty sure I've got a corrupted file somewhere, either in the app or in the Home<Library folder somewhere. I've been using the mail app for several years without issues with .mac mail as the primary and a couple of POP accounts from gmail and pacbell. The troubles began late Monday when I was batch deleting some old e-mails from the mail server. The entire inbox (maybe 120+ e-mails disappeared.
Since then, I can receive mail from all three mail providers, but am unable to send via any provider on my Mac Mail client. I have a PC that pulls mail from all three services via POP3, and it's working fine for both sending and receiving.
I was also able to create a .mac account on the Mac Mail client on a spare iMac and had no trouble sending or receiving from it. But the Mail client on my G5 refuses to send. I've reconfigured all the accounts, checked them 10 times, deleted and reinstalled them all, all to no avail, which is why I think there's bad ju-ju in one of the files somewhere.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.

First find out if you need to reinstall the mail app. Create a new user by going to system preferences >accounts. Unlock the lock and click on the + sign. Create a new user account. Log into the new user by going to the apple menu and logging out. In the new user go to system preferences>.mac. Enter your user name and password. If you can log in here then open Mail. Your .mac mail should be automatically set up. Send a test e-mail to yourself. If Mail works then the problem is specific to your user account and you do not need to reinstall the Mail app. If the Mail works then consider continuing to set up your other accounts in this user. Once your accounts are working in the new user close all windows and applications. Go the the ~/Library/Preferences and holding down on the Option key drag the com.apple.mail.plist to desktop. Now select your hard drive icon in the finder window and double click on the Users folder. Drag the com.apple.mail.plist into the Shared folder. Log out of your new user account and back into your account. Navigate to the ~/Library/Preferences and drag your com.apple.mail.plist from that folder onto the desktop. Open your hard drive and go to the Users folder and open it, then open the Shared folder. Drag the com.apple .mail.plist from the shared folder into the open Preferences window. Close the windows and open mail. Mail should work.

  • Clients can't rejoin domain after server clean install

Hello, I've got an issue with having client computers rejoin the domain after reinstalling the server software. Another post I read suggested saving the plist files to get the settings the same, but I need to reconfigure manually to eliminate some other problems we've been having.
We've got an Xserve running 10.4.8 with a mix of XP and Tiger clients all authenticating with the server. Our XP clients have remote profiles converted to local and our Tiger clients use mobile accounts. Generally things were running OK, but we kept having some authentication issues and have SMB crashes. In reviewing our log files it was suggested that our Open Directory was messed up (probably during our upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4) and that a clean install was the best course of action. The server has been running 24x7 for over 3 years without any signifigant maintenance, so this seemed like a good idea.
Everything was going great. I did the clean install and had DNS and DHCP configured and working, then started setting up Open Directory as the PDC and Windows Services as the Primary WINS. I had intended to recreate the user accounts because I didn't want to reintroduce problems by restoring the settings, however when I added one account and tested logging in on a XP machine it couldn't authenticate even though the domain name and user name was the same as before (short names too). On a whim, I moved the computer from the domain to WORKGROUP and then rejoined the (new) domain. Upon login it created a new roaming profile named user.domain instead of using the other account already there. On the XP client in accounts, the old profile showed up as unknown. I then went to a Mac and tried to log in and had similiar issues not finding the authenticating server.
After pulling my hair out this evening and realizing that there was no way I was going to have the office operation in the morning, I did a full restore from backup and pretended like I hadn't just wasted my weekend. After I got the server running, I was able to get my client machines to see the domain again and all is as it was.
Soooo, now the question is how do I create a clean installation with newly created user accounts and get the client computers to recognize the domain server as the same old one? Is there a hidden domain ID or something that is telling the client computers that it isn't the same domain or LDAP server? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    xserve G4 & XRaid   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Sorry, to clarify I did not want to use the archive & restore because I didn't want to reintroduce the errors I was trying to eliminate. I setup the Open Directory as a PDC from scratch and then ran into the client authtenication issue. In a desperate attempt to salvage the situation I did restore the previous settings which (A) didn't work and (B) may have made things worse because I already had created some groups and a few users and ended up with groups with duplicate IDs. That was when I scrapped everything and restored the disk from backup.
Your idea of using export/import is a slightly different avenue. However, now that I'm thinking about it, I didn't even get far enough for the user profiles to be an issue because the client computers weren't even communicating with the server to get the list of users (the Macs log-in by selecting a user name from a list).
Does export/import of a computer list work? I think I tried to import the computer list last night and the one I had only contained the Macs and these didn't preserve the MAC address info for some reason. I didn't have an export of the XP machines, but tried to manually add them to the list with no success.
    Thanks again for your help.

    java.lang.NullPointerException

    Hi guys
We are running a EP 7.0. We have external clients connecting from the internet through a 3rd party application gateway / reverse proxy. We have the problem that this gateway responds with 'service unavailable' while direct http(s) connections to the portal work without problem.
Now i noticed the same messages in the dispatcher default trace.
    2008-02-07 17:40:55:155 Connection 300800 is NOT removed! serverToConnections = ...
2008-02-07 17:40:55:154 Exception occurred while closing connection. EXCEPTION java.net.SocketException: Socket already closed....

I do not have a solution here, but i list some information on our system, so you can compare it to your environnements.
    - Enterprise Portal 7.0 SP13
    - our network guys observed a lot of tcp connections from the gateway to the portal with status CLOSE_WAIT
    - they also observed the portal sending a RST tcp packet instead of FIN (or FIN_ACK?)
    - the application gateway runs on Sun Solaris the portal on Linux x86_64
    - connection uses https
The issue is very obscure, we are trying to tcpdump and decrypt the data, but no luck so far.

  • Need to clean up my UAT server to add new clients

    Hi Gurus,
In our UAT system we have two clients and need to create few more clients for new projects with existing space, I want to clean up some data.
Please i need answers for below questions
    1) suggest how can i start cleaning up the server what type of data can be remove ?.
    2) Do we have any program to estimate how much space required to new client.
    Regards
    Kumar

    Hi Ram,
suggest how can i start cleaning up the server what type of data can be remove ?
Are you asking to clean up data at the client level or you are asking how to claim space in on the server level?
Do we have any program to estimate how much space required to new client?
Yes, when you perform a test run before starting client copy it'll show the estimated space needed ?

  • SCCM 2012 and 2012 sp1 client cache not cleaning itself

I work on a University campus that deploys 100's of software titles to lab computers.  Since last summer, we have been using Config Man 2012 and upgraded to 2012 SP1 in early Jan.  Recently we started noticing 160GB hard drives filling up in locations
that get most of our software.  When looking into it, the ccmcache folder has 50GB+ of data in it even though the cache size is set to 30GB.  I looked at the folders in the cache and many of them are from last summer when the apps were first
downloaded and installed.  NONE of these apps are set to persist.  My understanding is that they should have been cleaned up automatically after 24 hours as space was needed.  Either way, shouldn't the cache folder be at or smaller than the
    cache size setting?
I have talked to others that have seen similar problems with 2012 of the cache folder growing beyond the max, but they don't have the software load that we do, so they are not filling their drives.  If I manually tell Confi Man client to delete the
cache files, I free up 50GB or more, but manual intervention isn't a great option.
Any ideas on where to troubleshoot this issue or what settings might be messed up that allows for this?
    Thanks

How much of this is software updates?  Like in 2007 software updates are not counted against the cache size:
"You can configure the location and amount of disk space that Windows Configuration Manager clients use to store temporary files for when they install applications and programs. Software updates also use the client cache, but software updates
are not restricted by the configured cache size and will always attempt to download to the cache"

  • NAC/Clean Access Server no longer intercepting Clients after upgrade

We recently upgraded our CISCO Clean Access Manager and Server to version 4.8.2 from 4.8.0.  Everything seemed to be working fine but I had a user log in without having the NAC Agent running and they had full access.  We didn't change anything other than upgrading to the new version.  We have found that the user has access even before the Windows Agent is completed with the assessement of the client.  It worked fine before the upgrade....Again, we made no changes other than upgrading to the new version (no route changes, etc).
I even tried an explicit deny for the user's workstation's mac and the NAC SErver still let him through....I am a bit perplexed...Thanks for any assistance.

Hmm, i removed the line but it does not help me ?
I did run following command in terminal:
    sudo pico /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf
Removed the "reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname" from the line smtpd_helo_restrictions.
Saved the file and restarted Mail service
get this in  log when i try to send from a windows client with Outlook2010:

I did use the same instructions before in Lion server and there it did work ?!

  • Flash client not cleaning up socket connections

I have an embedded flex application which recieves asyncronous data updates from a Blaze DS server on Tomcat that is using spring integration. I'm currently using a single, unsecure channel just to make things simple.
My problem is that I'm periodically getting faults on the connection. This is happening far too often and it takes a considerable amount of time for it to succesfully reconnect. In investigating I've set up TCPMon to monitor the communications between the flex client and tomcat.
When my application initially starts I see an active AMF connection with my server and my client recieves messages normally. However, if I exit the screen, tcpmon shows that the connection is still active. It times out and closes the connection within a minute or so. Restarting the application by returning to the page opens a new connection normally.
The problem is that when I hit the refresh button on the page -- I.E. 7 -- the old connection doesn't go away, but the flex client attempts to create a new connection. Via TCPMon I see these requests and the server responds with the error:
The request sent by the client was syntactically incorrect ().
This is error 400 from tomcat but with no detail. The flex client will attempt to reconnect several times in vain and eventually it will call my fault handler. Throughout the reconnect process, TCPMon shows the original connection still open. It eventually times out as described above and the application sits idle with no connection to the server. If I refresh again after the "leaked" connection has closed the application connects successfully.
Examining the failed requests vs. the successful requests I find that they are all using the same JSESSIONID which makes sense because the browser has not exited, just the flash player. I'm assuming that the server is giving a response of 400 because I'm trying to create a second connection with the same session ID. However, I have not been able to verify this.
Obviously, it would be nice if the server responded with some more detail on the rejected requests. However, it seems to me that the flash player ought to close it's sockets instead of leaving the wire-protocol to time out. On the server side, I have turned on trace logging and I see the request being processed, but I don't see any indication that the request fails. (errors, warnings, etc.) I have tried to close the socket from the client side using Consumer.unsubscribe(), Consumer.disconnect(), and ChannelSet.disconnectAll() to no avail. The socket remains open until the TCP timeout. I have walked through the ChannelSet.disconnectAll() logic on the client side, but it is extremely complex and I have not found any code that closes a socket.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone know of any workarounds for it? I hate to spend the time walking through code if someone has already found a solution.

This is clearly a problem with the StreamingAMFChannel in the I.E. flash player. Under firefox all this stuff works.
Apparently, it is taking a very long time for StreamingAMFChannel to initialize for some reason. The NetConnectionChannel is relying on the connected boolean to determine whether or not it should disconnect it's socket when it's told to disconnect. That's a bad idea. Until the streaming protocol has completed initialization it's not connected even though the NetConnectionChannel's socket is connected. The NetConnectionChannel should look at it's socket rather than relying on the Stream state.
The question now is why it takes so long to initialize but only with I.E.

  • I am getting the [ins-32025] on a clean install of the Oracle 11gR2 client

    Hello,
I am attempting to install the Oracle 11gR2 Instant Client using the UI on 32-bit XP. There are ten of these machines, and each is a fresh install of XP. This is the error:
*SEVERE: [FATAL] [INS-32025] The chosen installation conflicts with software already installed in the given Oracle home.*
CAUSE: The chosen installation conflicted with software already installed in the given Oracle home.
ACTION: Install into a different Oracle home.
    INFO: Advice is ABORT
Oracle has never been installed on these computers. So, there shouldn't be any conflict. I'm attempting to do an unattended installation using a DOS script. I'm using the .rsp file I created while installing on one of the machines using the GUI. BTW, I don't get this error when using the GUI, only while trying to do an unattended installation.
This is the part of the script that calls the UI:
    setup.exe -silent -nowait -responseFile c:\client.rsp
I'm firing off this script via Remote Desktop, does that make a difference? I don't have physical access to these hosts.
Remember, these are fresh installations of XP, there isn't anything installed to create the conflict.
    My OracleHome is C:\app\Oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hmmm...
Thanks. I'm not getting this error when I use the GUI for the OUI. So, I'm not being "asked" anything. This error is only happening when I'm using the unattended installation option. Also, this is Windows, not Linux/Unix, so the path is more like "C:\app\Oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1". But, I checked my client.rsp file, anyway and there are no trailing back-slashes ("\").
At any rate, I'm letting the OUI build my client.rsp file for me, so there shouldn't be any errors in it -- especially any typos or formatting errors, at least.
Thanks. Do you have any other suggestions I could try?

  • Anyconnect Client & Clean Access SSO

I have a ASA 5550 setup with the AnyConnect Essentials License and it works. Behind the VPN we have a CA server running 4.1.8 using SSO. The VPN aspect of this works but I've run into a issue with OSX and the CA Agent. Windows and the CA Agent SSO works. When you connect to the VPN via AnyConnect on a MAC (OSX 10.5.8) it connects but when the CA Agent starts communicating with the CAS you are disconnected.
I've looked the traffic between the ASA and CAS, the Radius traffic looks good. Is this a bug?
    ASA: 8.2(1)
    CAS/CAM: 4.1.8
MAC CA Agent: 4.5.0 (it is supported per docs).
    Thanks,
    -Dusty

    Hi Dusty,
    Try this:
    - Look in your appropriate user directory for the CCAAgent dir (in my case it was: /Users/tprender/Library/Application Support/Cisco Systems/CCAAgent)
    - Create a preference.plist file if it doesn't already exist -- if it does exist , just add the key/value strings for "VlanDetectInterval" below
    - To create the file, do "vi preference.plist" and enter this data:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> http://www.apple.com/DTDs/ PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    AutoPopup
    yes
    VlanDetectInterval
    0
    - Save this file (in vi, :wq and ) and restart the Cisco NAC Agent (right click the icon and exit, then relaunch from your Applications menu)
The VlanDetectInterval must be set to 0 (default is 5) as Macintoshes do stupid things with the vpn interface.
I hope this helps. Please rate if you find this a valid solution.
    Cheers,
    Tim

  • Difference between clients.

    Hello all,
I have a basic question here.
What is the difference between clients in a system.
For example we are having 120, 600 and 700 clients in DEV
What type of data is stored in those clients. Will the data be different. Since programs are client independent can I do modifications to my programs in 600 and 700 clients.
Why the name SILVER and GOLD to the clients??
    Please explain.

    Hi Naren,
Client strategies vary from place to place. But one thing to understand is that a client is SAP's way of logically seperating data. In the underlying database, though, it will be just one table holding all the data for all the clients within the same server.
There are repository objects and some configuration tables that are cross-client or client-independent. In the basis configuration, there is a setting where they configure each client to be modifiable, non-modifiable and if modifiable, whether client-dependent modification are allowed or client-independent modifications are allowed.
So, if they allow it, you can do your programs anywhere. But one more factor to consider is the transport layer. This is again configuration dependent on client. So if you are making changes in client that is not on the transport path, then you will have tough time getting it into higher systems.
GOLD, SILVER etc are typically terminology used for representing the importance of the client. Typically Golden client is one which is like a vault, where you move all your tested configuration and client-dependent activities and leave it there. This will only be used if there is a need for restore or creating a brand new client. All other clients in development system will either be constantly changing or refreshed periodically. There will be lot test data also. So you need a client that is clean from all this garbage and that is your golden client. I have to admit that I didn't hear SILVER being used anywhere, but it may be on similar lines.
Clients are dedicated to development, configuration, crash-and-burn, unit testing and golden client. It is not necessary to have all these, but most often they use this landscape in development systems.
In production systems, different clients are used to seggregate access and data.
    Hope this helps,
    Srinivas
