Client Version Compatibility

What is the "official" stance on running a newer version of the client against an older verison of the DB?
For example, can I run OCI 10.2 linked software against a 10.2 client running against a 10gR1 database or is that going to cause problems?

Can ODP.NET the latest release (11.2.0.3.0) work with an older version of Oracle client - for example 11.1.0.7.20?
ODP.NET can work with any Oracle Client where the first two version numbers match. In your case, 11.2 does not equal 11.1.
What are the options if I want to deploy an application built with version 11.2.0.3.0 of ODP.NET on a production machine with Oracle client 11.1.0.7.20?
Upgrade to an 11.2 client or downgrade ODP.NET to an 11.1 version.
The Oracle client installation already has ODP.NET, except that it is version 11.1.0.7.20
Is the assembly binding redirection the option for that case? Or does the machine require an upgrade to Oracle client 11.2.0.3.0?
Assembly binding changes won't solve this particular problem.
In general, I would not recommend developing on one version of ODP.NET and then deploying on an earlier version. It's like developing on .NET Framework 4, then deploying on .NET Framework 3.5. It may work, but there may be APIs or bug fixes in .NET 4 that are not present in .NET 3.5 that lead to problems. Develop on the ODP.NET version you plan to deploy. You can also develop on an earlier ODP.NET version and deploy on a later version. That usually works because ODP.NET maintains compatibility as newer versions are developed.
There is no way to guarantee compatibility in the other direction.

SCCM 2012 R2 site server client installation error: The client version 5.00.7958.1000 does not match the MP version 5.00.7804.1000.

Hello,
When I try to install the client on the site server itself it gives me this error message and fails the ccmsetup. I only have this on the site server. Clients to other servers and computers are pushed fine. If I check the version of the MP it says 5.00.7958.1000
in ADSI. I removed the MP object in CN=System, CN=System Management. Waited for it to be regenerated automatically by SCCM but the installation doesn't work still.
I tried to install with several methods including directly from ccmsetup.exe in ccmsetup folder, pushing by sccm itself, running from commandline, ...
I run SCCM 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and the database on SQL 2008 on Server 2008 R2

I agree with Idan. You can easily remove the Management Point Site System role and add it again with no adverse effect. This should solve your problem.

Issue with only one client - The client version 5.00.7958.1000 does not match the MP version 5.00.7711.0000. The client will not be installed.

Below issue is with only one client in that untrusted domain. So boundary is not the issue.
Env -
mydom.com has SCCM PRI site (MP, DP as well).
Client is in untrusted forest.

Why two primary that is 'coz geographically based server support and workstation. You can think it as a data center to data center split.
That doesn't make sense and aren't valid reasons for 2012 (not that you can necessarily change it now).
This line jumps out at me in the log file though: "An MP exists on this machine".
That looks like the system you are installing on previously had an MP on it. I would delete the ccm namespace in WMI, cleanup all reference to ccm and Configuratin Manager from the registry, and then try again.

Different Client Versions in OWB 9i and 10g

Hi,
Our client is using 9i OWB Client Software, and we are planning to use OWB10g Client Software on Windows Platform.
Will there be any compatability issues while moving from 9i OWB Client Software to 10g Client software.
And what are other parameters we need to consider, if possible please mention any documents links available.
Kindly let me know the pros/cons in this model .
Here my main question is will there be backward compatibility, i.e repository in 9i database need to connect by using the OWB 10g client?

Hi,
you cannot use different client versions on the same repository. If you want to use owb 10g, then you have to upgrade the repository to 10g. Then you can only use 10g clients, owb 9i clients cannot connect to that repository.

WAP54G Version compatibility

I am trying to create a wireless bridge between a network with ip's 198.1.1.xxx (this network has the gateway) to a network with ip's 198.1.2.xxx - so that it can access the internet thru the gateway). Both AP's are WAP54G set to bridge mode. Both are configured identically except for the IP numbers. SSID broadcast disabled and security off. From everything I have read, I should be able to ping (example 4.2.2.2) from 198.1.2.xxx - but cannot. The only difference I can see it that one of the WAP54G's is version 2 and the other is Version 3. Both have firmware 3.0.4.
Question: Can anyone confirm that I can or cannot create a wireless bridge with differing versions of the same device?
As a plan B, I have on order a WET200. Should I have two on order to act as a matched pair as the WAP54G's had to be?

I work with psd, indd and illu/eps files. I've heard the weird argument that "cause of new features it's not possible to be version compatible, but that's down right silly. Text on top of an image should be readable in any version. Even with a copule of adjustment layers it should be no problems with version compatibility. That Adobe choose to lock and force is another story. I guess I will be sticking to my CS6 version in the years to come. I paid a lot of money for that Master Collection. I also corresponde files with many CS4 users on the client side.

RoboHelp Version Compatibility

Hello everybody from Greece,
I want to ask about version compatibility. I've got RoboHelp
HTML 5.0.2 and my client has RoboHelp HTML 3.1. He asks if I can
compile his project, but I wnt to know if he will be able to work
with the project that I will work with in version 5.0.2.
Is there a way to save the project to an older version?
Is there a compatibility problem in general?
Is there going to be a problem if I compile the project in
the newer version? (Will he see any differences?)
Any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to open up the X3.1 in X5.02 without a
problem. X5 will preserve all the feature used in X3.1. Are you
compiling HTML Help? My guess is that you won't see any difference
in the output when you compile.
However, the problem comes when you try and do this the other
way around. Robohelp is not backward compatible. So you won't be
able to pass a modified project back to your client. Rick the
robowizard has a few tricks to help with backward compatibility if
you don't mind going under the hood. However, not sure if this
works with X3.1 jumping to X3.1.
What type of output are you generating?

1 . We updated OS to mavericks few machine in last december and still does't works SMTP (Out going mail) on those MAC.
2. After that most recently we updated OS to mavericks few machine those are working will with SMTP server .

Hi Godtee,
you have to use the same version on the client as on the server.
There is only one software package containing owb client and server components. Use it for server and client side installations.
It seems that you have patched your server installation to 10.2.0.2.0. Apply this patch to your client installation and you will be able to connect to the repository with version 10.2.0.2.0

I have an OWB repository version 10.1.0.1.0 and a client of 10.1.0.2.0. We have have been running this fine. I need to upgrade to 10.1.0.4.0 of OWB so I can begin to use a 10gR2 database as my target. I exported (database wise) my repository and imported it into the 10.2.0.1 database - all went well. I now went to upgrade the repository from 10.1.0.1.0 to 10.1.0.4.0 and ran the shell in the ../bin/unix dierctory. It ran fine, yet when I connect to the repository using the 10.1.0.4 client I get the "API5036: Client Version 10.1.0.4 is not compatible with Repository version 10.1.0.1.0" as if I never ran the DT upgrade shell. I then noticed the shell provided with the 10.1.0.4 install is DTupg92to10g.sh and I am not upgrading a 92 repos to a 10 repos. Is there a upgrade for 10.1.0.1.0 to 10.1.0.4.0?

for OWB metadata, run this following script
<OWB_HOME>/owb/reposasst/upg/upg10gTo10104.sql
For runtime data
<OWB_HOME>/owb/bin/unix/RT_upgrade_to_10_1
This is only if it's NOT upgrading to 10gR2 database
If you are upgrading to Oracle10g Release 2 with partial export and
import and if you are changing the database instance or the computer
hosting the database, then run the migration script:
For UNIX, navigate to OWB_HOME/owb/bin/unix and run
RT_migrate_to_10_1.sh.
The RT_migrate_to_10_1.sh prompts you for several parameters:
the User Name and Password of your original Runtime Repository
schema, the database connection string for your original Runtime
Repository (in the form of host:port:servicename), the User Name
and Password for your new Runtime Repository schema (whose values
should match the original Runtime Repository), and the database
connection string for the new Runtime Repository (also in the form of
host:port:servicename). Additionally, as it runs, the script prompts
you for SYS User Names and Passwords for the Oracle Database
instances for any Target Schemas and Oracle Workflows being upgraded.

Oracle JDBC driver 11.2.0.3 is reported as client version 11.2.0.2

We have upgraded our JDBC driver to latest ojdbc6.jar (2,714,189 bytes) - 11.2.0.3
Everything looks great, except that on the server side it is reported as client version 11.2.0.2

Windows 8 64 bit issues with Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client version 3.1.04072

I am having an issue with the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client version 3.1.04072 on a Windows 8 64 bit laptop.
I am able to create the VPN connection but the connection will not allow data to be transferred.

Issue history:
- Previously running Cisco VPN client on Windows 8 64 bit laptop (VPN working and able to transmit data over VPN)
- Upgrade to Windows 8.1 stopped the VPN client working
- Refreshed system back to Windows 8 and reinstalled all software
- Cisco VPN client would not install on system
- Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client installs and is able to connect to VPN host
- Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client downloads and installs software from VPN host
- Data transmission software returns error code #10060
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

How to install Oracle client Version 10.2.0.4 on a Windows server 2008

Hi,
I need to install an Oracle client on a Windows Server 2008 (32-bit), how do I do that?
I want to install Oracle client version 10.2.0.4 (Instant Client Package - Basic: All files required to run OCI, OCCI, and JDBC-OCI applications).
Pls. advice, I can't find instructions for this installation on Oracle.com or anywhere else.

Changing the java vm from client to ojvm result in the following error:
