Client wants a type of site monitor.. help please.

One of our clients wants a type of monitor service. They want
every 15 or 30 minutes to log certain things on the site are
working or not like http, ftp, smtp, sql and coldfusion and if they
are not to send an email. We nodded our heads but when we got to
thinking how we should do it we got stumped. Can anybody point us
in the direction of a tutorial or code examples of this.

We created our own simple monitoring system a few years ago
(ServerWatch), using CF no less. It will check to see it the server
is still outputing pages and also will do a DB test to make sure
the SQL server is outputting data.
If the application receives an improper response, it sends an
SMS message to my cellphone.
HOWEVER, as everyone has noted, it has to run on a satellite
server (
not same server as the server you are monitoring).
Additionally, you should most likely run 2 monitoring servers ... 1
on your network and 1 on a different network. This way you can get
alerts even if your particular network is down. It will also let
you monitor whether you are having an issue locally or possibly
something not in your control (
i.e. router issue by pipe supplier) ... It also gives you a
backup so you know if the main monitoring server is offline or
unavailable, then there is a backup watching as well.
That all being said, you will find that it is much less of a
headache if you get a 3rd party to do it for you ... and many of
them are not expensive and offer multiple sattelites at one low
cost.
Alertsite did wonders for us for many many years, can monitor
any number of server tyoes, and offer multiple sattelite locations
so you are assured that yoru server is always being monitored by at
least one system no matter the situation world wide (
i.e when the East Coast grid went out a couple of years ago)

Hi all,
I am fairly new into the HD edit paradigm. We shot a project in hd 720p to output as a 13 minute HD corporate video. Now my client wants a SD DVD instead. I have already edited the elaborate 13 minute piece in a 720p sequence (Complete with actors, green screen keying, animations from After Effects, and Titles generated in FCP.... yikes.
How can I change the sequence to SD? If I make the straight change in the sequence settings, every image and clip gets short and pudgy. Any pointers how to make this change-over as smoothly as possible?

To MY eyes, I like the smoothness that the bitrate used in the 90minute uses. Again, to me, the 60 seems a bit too harsh.
Of course I formed this opinion on older DVD players and TVs -- but I still stand by it.

In Lion the Finder folder is now invisible. To make it permanetely visible enter the following in the Terminal applicaiton window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an applicaiton.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

TS3112 I tried using sudo rm to get rid of remote desktops but the terminal responded as needing password and yet would not let me type in anything. help please.

I tried to type in details but unable to do so. we lived in a gated apt buildings in Hi with 24-hour security guards and cameras. This false sense of security led us to foolishly leave the computer on all the time, not log off even when out shopping. Never expect people would open our locks (three locks) and walked into our apt while we were out. We have dishes, clothes and corning vision cookwares missing. We have all our important docs including computer serial numbers. We noticed our computer not respond and files and applications move around. We know they are not done by themselves and looked into console log list. The person who remotely logs or links with our computer thought that we are old folks and knew little about how to discover their act. Tried many times to get rid of it but was not successful. Finally today we hauled our imac to the apple store and explained the need to get rid of remote desktop. All went well and we thought our computer is at a factory installed state. We forgot to start firewall, probably did not disconnect third party help status (apple store third party). Forgot to write down cable provider IP and resulted in using wi fi. Look into system log list and other diagnostics messages and found an mac book pro and went back to see if I can write down the entire message but this time it went blank. system log blank, library logs blank and /var/logs blank and so is user log. Activity monitor froze would not open. We had it clean up in apple store today november 18, 2013. We have an Imac and don't know anyone who owns mac book pro with log message dated on oct 22. The question is how it still hangs around after reset at the apple store and how to get rid of it and if it is possible? greatly appreciated.

The Terminal is letting you type it in. It just doesn't display anything when you do.

I am very frustrated. I understand that elements 8 is out now, but I am trying to finish a client's job and I can only get the text in all caps. My caps lock is not on. I have reset the toools. I have also installed and uninstalled. I am extremely disappointed. I only had this software for a little over a year. I purchased new. Any help would be greatly appreicated. Thank you.

What is the Font type you are using?
Certain font types - like Calvin, Rosewood std etc always type in Capital?
This could be the issue that you're facing. If you change the font to something like Arial it should work fine.

Hardware and Monitor help please

I'm new to setting up equipment and all that kind of stuff!!!
I just purchased a JVC monitor and was going to use composite video wires through my camera to hook it up but now that it has arrived at my house, I see it only has composite BNC connectors and not RCA connectors.
Are there any cable options so I can still using my camera as a deck? The camera has one A/V jack and the Monitor has the BNC composite and S-Video, plus composite RCA for audio.
Or I'm guessing I may need to buy a converter and I've heard good things about the Canopus ADVC-110.
My questions if I need to buy the Canopus:
Do I need to use the optional power supply or will the firewire be enough.
How do I get the audio to the monitor? Can run two different wires out of the Canopus, the s-video for video and composite RCA for the audio?

Site Definition Help - Please

Dreamweaver in CS3 on Windows XP Prof: Very very beginner:
Before I've chosen a folder or site or anything:
When I begin to define a site - in the Site Definition window
- in Site name: box, "Unnamed Site 2" always appears;
In the 'Local root folder:' box, the words C:\My
Documents\Unnamed Site 2\ always appears as does C:\
Why? and how do I change this so that no site name at all
appears in the 'Site name:' box?

DW will just give a site a name when you first try to define
a site. That pop-up box which says those names should give you the
option to click in the text areas and change the name and path to
whatever you wish.
To answer your questions I will say the following:
1 - To do this would would serve no purpose I will explain
why with the answer to #2.
2. I wouldn't recommend putting only C:\ in the local root
folder box. That would potentially cause issues down the road
because then DW would have access to work in the WINDOWS directory
and this is not good. I would highly recommend keeping it in your
user account on Windows XP (this is anything inside the
C:\Documents and Settings\Username folder, which includes your My
Documents folder). Now to jump back to #2. Without defining a
proper directory you would not be able to use its functions for
PHP, ASP or any server-side script. You would also not be able to
insert Flash files onto your web pages nor would you be able to use
the new features such as Spry. This is because DW needs a folder to
work in so that it can create the associated files and folders
which accompany making those types of scripts and functions. You
don't necessarily need to connect it to a remote website if you do
not have one, but you do need to specify a local folder to work in
and I would highly recommend it. Thus defining the Name only gives
the site definition a way for you to reference the site, even if it
is for testing many sites. For instance I put my sites in a folder
called "Sites" and then inside that folder I have many subfolders
which are defined sites in Dreamweaver. Each folder has a name
which corresponds to it that DW sees.

She definitely wants an iMac. My household runs Macs but we aren't tech savy enough to know what all of the above requirements mean. Obviously there aren't a lot of customization options when purchasing a Mac so I'm not sure if it will require aftermarket type stuff.

iMacs are great machines. The Adobe CS suite will work on any new or older iMac. iMacs have great video cards as well. I would suggest that once you buy the iMac, add more memory. Buying it directly from Apple is quite expensive but places like Other World Computing sell excellent memory at great prices. I don't work for them, but I am a long time customer. I love my iMac. The screen is just fabulous.

If you've disabled your account for 8 hours then you will need to wait until the 8 hours have completed.
When the 8 hours are up, then if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then you should get a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.

I often work with short pieces of 60 seconds or less. Maybe 20 or 30 bars. Is there a way to get rid of all the rest of the bars so that, for example, when freezing a track, I don't have to wait while Logic freezes dozens of empty unneeded bars?

Hi,
if you look in the ruler above the arange window, you'll see a bracket at the left at measure 1 (by default). There's also a bracket like that somewhere further to the right, which is the project end marker. You can drag both markers to whatever location you want, and the freeze function will only do it's work between the begin and end marker.
See page 150 of Help > Logic Express 8 User Manual.
