Clients get stuck when logging out current user

I'm using ARD 3.1 to control 9 different Macs (from G4's with 10.3.9 to Dual G5's with 10.4.8, all with 3.1 clients, all with several user accounts) in the same company in Germany. I'm connected to the company through an SSH tunnel all the time.
Some of these Macs regulary go to "ARD Not Active" after I log out any current user from the Apple menu on that computer (i. e. if I want to log out the admin and switch back to some normal user).
From my end it then looks as if this computer would be down, but actually the computer is still on and seems to be in some kind of deep sleep that can only be ended by hitting some keys on the keyboard in Germany or sometimes even only by restarting the computer.
This happpens frequently on 3 of these 9 computers. 2 of them have 10.4.8 and 1 has 10.4.6. The same thing also happened all the time with ARD 3.0.
Any idea what this might be and how I could fix this? It's often very annoying because I have to wait for the next day before I can continue to work on these computers.
Thanks and greetings

Part of your problem sounds like the energy saver settings are putting the machine to sleep. You might be able to wake them simply by executing a "Wake" command on the computers.
You could also set the energy saver settings to not allow the machines to go to sleep.

    Apologies for the late response. I was on vacation.
    Following are the steps I followed in creating the database link. (1) Created a public database link using the SYSTEM account [used the clause USING to provide the host information] (2) Created a database link with the name same as above, using the account ACNTAPPS.
    After the creation of database links, I created the package in ACNTAPPS schema where some reports are generated using the DBLINK. I also created a PUBLIC synonym for the package and granted EXECUTE privilege to PORTAL30.
    Now I started creating portlets using the account PORTAL30. One portlet displays the small report, generated through the above package. Everything works fine. But sometimes when I click on LOG-OUT, I get the above error.
    Is there any way I can resolve this error? Any help / hints will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • When logging out of user account iMac will not start back up at login screen.

    To prevent guests from using my iMac I frequently "log out" and created a guest account. However when I log out and shut down, my iMac turns on
    right back to my desktop not even returning to the "log-in" screen. I tried fixing this under preferences but this did not yield any help as it's still doing
    this? I don't understand I can't recall ever having this problem before. Please help! Thanks

    Try rebooting into Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It is possible one (or more) is corrupt. To reboot in Safe Model when you hear the startup tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar appearing.

    i have connected my iphone5 to update the ios8 sofware, now it is stuck in the plug-n screen indicating itunes. the phone is not getting recognized when logged in to itunes on the computer

    Try this:
    Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
    Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
    Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
    If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, display gets black and a weird pixelation when I move the mouse

    When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, and those X minutes pass by, my MBA logs out. After that, when I want to use it again, I found that display is totally black and if I use the touchpad, then I can start seeing "what is behind" that black screen (Login Window), like you can see on the picture:
    I took it to Tech Service and they didnt find out any hardware issue. Any ideas?

    I recently found out that this only happens when DISPLAY is set to go to sleep minutes before the "Log out after X minutes of inactivity". I had "Display sleep" option set to 5 minutes and "Log out after 10 minutes of inactivity" and this causes the display to go to sleep first (screen goes black) and then, 5 minutes later, it logs out.
    If "Display sleep" is off and "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, the issue does not replicate. So Im thinking it has something to do with the screen being black at the moment it logs out. Can you try and replicate that?
    I will be checking the thread you suggested and hopefully oudgrad1764 can find a solution. Thanks a lot.

  • Logging out a user

    Hi,
    I'm new to WebLogic, and I'm trying to figure out how to log out a user. I am currently using Authenticate's logout method (weblogic.security.auth.Authenticate.logout(weblogic.security.Security.getCurrentSubject()),
    and it seems to work, but the user who was just logged out can't log in in the same browser until another user has logged in and out. I've tried destroying all the cookies and ivalidating the current session, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
    Dmitriy

    Actually, most importantly in our logout procedure we must set loggedIn to false in a database table.
    We've talked about having the clients send a "heartbeat" to the model residing on the OraAS. If we do not get a heartbeat for a set number of times we could "time out" a client. If we were to go this route, we'll have to register the clients (probably by IP) and spawn a new thread for this service.
    Does anyone feel this is not the route to go? Is there anything a bit more KISS to implement. Obviously this adds a bit more complication and more points of failure to our current system.

  • How to log out all users from Application to switch partitions?

    Hi,
    We currently use a maxl script to switch over active partitions and as you may know, users need to be logged out when this happens. The current script we use is:
    alter system logout session on application ABANSWER force;
    alter system kill request on application $4;
    alter system kill request on application FCSTA3;
    alter system kill request on application FCSTA4;
    alter system kill request on application HISTA;
    alter system kill request on application ABANSWER;
    drop transparent partition ABANSWER.REPORT from $4.$2;
    Quite often we seem to get the issue that some user can't be logged out because they are running something intensive and this causes the partition switch to fail.
    Does anyone know a better way to do log out the users or kill the sessions so we can reliably switch the partitions? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Arfan

    that means that the app was purchased under that seperate apple id. u will need to delete the app and redownload it using the yahoo one if u want to be able to update it.

  • G5 locks up when logging out and other concern

    This has become a problem over the past year. I know that it is an old single processor, first of the Power Macs, legacy machine and OS. I have gone through all various check system/disk evolutions with Apple and TechTool Utilities.
    Also, when I have a software glitch, I can never get the Send To Apple report to "send". I get a message that reads something along the line of 'not being able to connect to Apple'. Why, the legacy problem again? If so, I am suprized that I get iTunes and Safari updates.

    I don't think it has anything to do with it being a "legacy" Mac.  I have a Power Mac G5, running Leopard, and it runs quite well.
    Locking up when logging out is usually caused by a process that is running and the OS is not able to quit it.  It may be related to an app, or it may be a background process.  If you restart (or log out and log in) and then immediately log out, does it lock up?
    As a test, you can try creating a new user account in System Preferences Accounts pane.  Log out of your usual account and log in to the new account.  Do some things you normally do, then try logging out.  Does it lock up?

    Does anyone have some experience with this? It's a fairly good sized backup (well, for me at least) so I'd really hate to have to start over every time one fails!

    Ok, solved-ish. There were actually 3 issues:
    1. There's a problem in the 0.6.18 new python paraminko ssh internals that was preventing it from uploading more than about 1GB at a time, possibly because it's reusing the same ssh connection which some webhosts will kick off after a certain time or amount.
    2. The --num-retries parameter wasn't being read by the ssh backend
    3. There's a bug in some encryption validation code that had to be removed before a 'resume backup' operation would work correctly (it won't read the GPG encryption key correctly).
    So I reverted to 0.6.17 and removed a previously applied patch from the code found here.
    So far it seems to be working. The dev who answered me on Launchpad said that there's a memory leak with 0.6.17 so watch out when doing any backups over ~100GB or so.

  • Help with occasional system locks when logging out or rebooting

    Basically what's happening is occasionally when logging out, restarting, or rebooting from an X session, I get a total system freeze. The screen goes blank and there's no input possible. I'm not seeing anything in the logs. The card is using the xf86-video-intel driver and used to work fine with the i810 driver.
    There are some similar threads around like this one:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65469
    but it's still somewhat different. For me it only happens occasionally and I lose complete control of the system. This was happening when starting from GDM, and is now happening from starting either with 'exec startlxde' or 'exec ck-launch-session startlxde' (current). GDM is gone now (Hurray! Whoopy! Yahoo!)
    One of the solutions listed in the above thread was to remove the vga= line from the kernel command in menu.lst. I don't have that. Another solution was to add it. I didn't try it yet. If this were the problem, wouldn't the behavior be consistent?
    It's worth mentioning for a bunch of attempts yesterday I couldn't log in with startx, and I was getting a number of different errors in Xorg.0.log. Today it's working. I have no idea why; It's the same xorg.conf and same software as before.
    I'm out of ideas. Got any?

    I really could use some ideas with this. The machine in question isn't in my possession very often and it needs to 'just work'. I've since removed everything from lxde except for the panel and am now using a straight openbox session.
    The machine only blanks when shutting down, logging out, or restarting. I do have control over the power button, so it will power off. Unfortunately this just kills it, so the file system is uncleanly mounted. Eventually this is going to kill data (if it hasn't already).
    I want to reiterate that there is nothing in the logs that everyone isn't seeing with the intel drivers. I've been through countless bug trackers, as well as threads here and elsewhere. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get this machine to close gracefully? If I can't get X/intel to play nicely, is there something I can do to get the power button to close the system properly?

  • After downloading the IOS5 my phone gets stuck when doing the back up. What should I do?, After downloading the IOS5 my phone gets stuck when doing the back up. What should I do?

    My iphone gets stuck when doing the back up of the IOS 5. What should I do? Any ideas?

    I'm having the same issue on the 3Gs.  I get a message "an error occurred while backing up this phone (-43)."  It tells me if I continue the contents of the phone while be deleted.  Is it safe to continue and restore from my current backup?  I can do a manual backup without any issues.

  • Logging out all users

    To perform a back-up I want to log out all users. Currently I use the 'unloadapp' ESSCMD, but this does not seem to log out users who are currently retrieving data. As a result my back-up fails.Does the 'logoutallusers' command log of all users (active, inactive)?Regards,JG

    Howdy!We do this via script for each application using the following essmsh syntax:"alter application appname disable connects;"This works great. We then re-establish any connections that we killed with the following statement:"alter application appname enable connects;"Hope this helps!JR

  • Account log out without user consent

    Hi all,
    There are 4 separate user accounts under my MacBook Pro running Lion. Today I logged into one account and then used switch user to switch to another account.
    When I wanted to switch back to the previous account, it appeared to be logged out. I didn't do it, and was not sure about what caused it.
    May I ask whether anyone has the same issue or knows the causes and solutions?
    Thanks a lot.

    >>At the Log in Screen I guess there is no way to log out a user unless you log in and log off.
    That's true, other than restart, which gives you the option, while warning that they may lose unsaved changes.

    You can log off a user without first logging into their account, as shown in the following...
    It works at least in Mac OS 10.6. I don't know about Mavericks.
    It does work, and testing here, on the next login, windows & apps are just as they were left for the other user, even just-edited & unsaved files... no promises though.
