Clients losing bindings from mavericks server

Hi,
Yet another issue with Mavericks server. I have a Mavericks server with three replicas. This is a new install, only two weeks old. I have three hundred 10.8.5 clients bound to the directory and working fine. The issue started with a machine losing its binding, strange I thought. Maybe just a glitch, so I re- bound it with no problems. Two days later, another machine lost its binding for no reason. I rebound this too, I was starting to get that feeling in my stomach that a lot of Apple admins must get.. The next day, after functioning fine all morning, every single machine lost its binding and the directory refused to respond. All the services appear up on the server, however I cannot bind to the server or any of the replicas. It seems that when a directory master goes bust, it takes the replicas directories down too. What is the point of having replicas if a corruption can spread like this???
I have had to restore my entire hard drive from a backup. Has anyone had this problem? this operating system is in its third iteration in as many months.

More of the same for our company, too. All workstations on 10.9, I migrated from a 10.5 AFP server, which was super-stable (hence my reluctance to upgrade), to a 10.9 server. Its only function is file sharing.
It seems that if a user is disconnected for any reason-- app nap (we disabled that), machine goes to sleep, user closes the laptop to go home without closing documents and disconnecting properly from the server-- the files become ghost files and nobody is able to open them. Attempting to open them results in unresponsive applications (typically MS Office 2011 apps), and an unresponsive finder. The only solution is to restart.
I am asking users to try and remember to properly save and close documents, as well as log out of the server before they leave, but given the ability for years to just 'close and go' with 10.5 server, it's going to be a hard habit to break.
The work around is to drag the document to the desktop, rename it, and move it back to the server. The original document is shown to be in use/locked and the only way to delete is via CLI, so I have to do that each time. The document cannot even be renamed to the original document's name, or it will again show in use/locked.
Frustrating, and I'm really looking for a solution! My users are going to revolt. :/

SCCM 2012 client push occurs from site server or from distribution point?

I would like to set up client push in SCCM 2012 and I have a remote site with about 80 workstations that I would like to deploy the clients to using client push, but this remote site is VERY slow, as in less than 3Mbps slow. There is a remote DP located
at this site and I wanted to know if the remote workstations will be hammering my Site Server across the WAN (or MP I guess since the MP role is i installed on the Site Server) to request the client installation, or do the clients just request the client from
the Site Server or MP and then the client downloads to the remote DP and then the workstations install the SCCM 2012 client from the local DP at the remote site?
I just do NOT want the WAN link to become overwhelmed with workstation requests to install the client and have the Site Server have to respond to each and every workstation and download the SCCM 2012 client to each system over this slow WAN link.
How does the client push process actually work?

How do you configure a client to update from the server

I found the information on how to point clients to a software update server but the problem I have is the URL.
The example is http://su.example.com:8088/index.sucatalog
I don't have a URL as far as I know and if I did, is the default port 8088 or where can I change or check that?
And where is a list of the catalog file for the specific versions of OS X?
Basically I have 8 Macs all running Yosemite except for one running 10.8.5. Instead of all the machines hitting the internet for updates, I'd like just my server to down the updates and then all clients update from the server.
If there is better instructions on how to do this, please point the way.

Set the DNS TTL fairly short — probably somewhere between a few minutes and an hour — to allow the DNS translations to be changed fairly quickly, if your software update servers are prone to outages.

Clients cannot update from WSUS server - error 8024400E

Alright, so I'm troubleshooting our WSUS server and seem to be stuck. I am running WSUS 3.2.7600.226 on Server 2003. The client I have been using for testing is Windows 7 x64, but we have this issue on all clients (XP, 7 x86, and 7 x64). I started
with an error of 800B0001 and after googling installed KB2720211 to fix it. Now I am getting error 8024400E on clients when I attempt to update. I followed a technet walkthrough and verified that my WSUS settings are all correct (at least regarding iis,
registry, gpo settings, and file system permissions). I am able to download CAB files from the WSUS server by going to the proper address in a browser. Here is a snippet from my WindowsUpdate log on my client:

While you're definitely on the right track, the Office2003SP1 update really has not been an issue since WSUS Service Pack 2 was released in October 2009 (and really, the Office2003SP1 update that was the cause of this was replaced long before that even,
so you probably don't even have the defective update on your server).
However, the error is generally associated with the presence of defective update(s) on the WSUS server, so the first thing to do is address any potential issues caused by a failed install of KB2720211.
If the error still persists after verifying that all other aspects of the server are fully operational, review the list of not-Declined updates on your WSUS server and make sure that:
All Expired updates are Declined (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the expired updates).
All approvals for older revisions have been removed (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the older revisions).
All approvals for superseded updates have been removed. (And then, when they report as 100% Not Applicable, decline them, and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard so that it can delete the files associated with those updates).
Once all of the potentially problematic updates have been removed from the view of the Windows Update Agent, and if this error then persists, we can evaluate it from a more focused perspective.

FEP clients update defintitions from SCCM server, but not timely

Our FEP clients are configured to download definition updates from WSUS. They seem to be doing this, but not as frequently as they should; the policy is set to check for updates every 7 hours, but they do not usually download updates until definitions
are a week or more out of date.
This seems to be true even if we try to force an update by clicking the
Update button on the FEP client. For example, my client right now shows "Definitions created on" 2/13/2012, but "Definitions last checked:" shows a 2/15/2012 timestamp (I clicked the button a few minutes ago).
While the definitions on my workstation are two days out of date, other computers on the network have today's definitions, so it looks like the definitions on the SCCM server are up to date.
What's going on here?

RMI call back - How to refer to the client project from the server project?

Hi, I am working on an RMI assignment which basically needs me to use the RMI call back for the server to notify the clients.
I have 2 projects , one for the client and another for the server.
In the client project, I have a client interface and the main client class implements this interface.
In the server project, I have a server interface and a class that implements this interface.
I can use the server interface in the client project's code by adding the server project in the path of the client project. it lets me use the server interface in the code if I put "import.." statement.
But the issue is I can not do the same to access the client interface from within the server project's code. Since that will be a circular reference, the compiler does not let me use the client interface from within the server's code. This is putting me in a great difficulty and I am stuck here. What should I do so that I can use the client interface and the compiler won't complain?

Let me explain what I tried: I manually generated stub class of the client using the Eclipse IDE as mentioned in my previous message. The StockMSClient_Stub.class got created in my client project.
The common project has the 2 interfaces - one from the client and one from the server.
I have added reference to the common project from the client and server projects to use the interfaces.
With the above mentioned in place, when I run the server project, the registry binding of the server objects is very fine. But I am getting error in the applet at the line where I am passing the client object to the method provided by the server interface. The following is the code snippet in the applet where I am getting the error.

I have tryed removing queryOutRemote.$messageSpecifier() and I get the error:

Cannot get client to build from sol10 jump server

Am trying to build a sol10 client useing a sol10 jump server.
Have built sol10 clients of sol9 jump servers without problem.
However this is the first time with sol10 as the jump server.
Which is why I'm assuming a server(sol10) isssue rather than client.
Anyone know why the client might be hanging at the follwoing point:-

I need to be 100% sure whether or not the following scenario is possible within Adobe Flash Player / Adome Media Server security contrains:
website and swf file are hoted on server with given IP number xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
media and streaming application are hosted on server with IP number yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy
generally speaking:
will yyy media server accept connection from xxx client ?
will xxx client accept streams from yyy server ?
I urgently need this information as I need to decide some specific media streaming solution for the customer.
Of course - I mean both servers being hosted (virtual) services rented by the customer at third party provididers.

Yes this should not be an issue , a client from "xxx" can connect to FMS at "yyy" and stream the data. There should not be problem at both ends.

Mavericks server share public read-only calendar

I've setup the Calendar service on Mavericks Server. I have a CalDAV user setup to create calendar entries. That's all working. These entries show in Calendar on my computers, and they sync just fine.
Now, I want to make this a public calendar, that anyone can view, but not edit.
When I try to publish ("share") this calendar, the option for "Public" is not available, as it is with iCloud. Is there any way to publish a public calendar from Mavericks Server?

Activate WebDAV and see the topic "Publish and unpublish calendars" in the built-in help for Calendar.

Cannot download mail from the server after a particular date

Hi, I just set up my pop3 account on the Iphone. That was easy
I started downloading the mails. It download all the mails till Wednesday morning and then just stopped. Since then I've tried to re-install the email account, download the mails again, reboot the handset but nothing seems to work. Each time it only downloads the mails till Wednesday morning and stops there.
My Gmail account on the other hand works fine and is up to date with the email notifications.
Any advise on how to go about this?

Most POP3 clients delete messages from the server on download. Are you positive you don't have another mail client set up somewhere (on your home or work computer) that may have already pulled them down and deleted them from the server?

404 errors from Mavericks web server

Running Mavericks server in VirtualBox while I come up with a checklist for implementing WordPress on a Mac mini next week. Running into strange 404 errors that I'm not familiar with.
1) Turned on web server and PHP. Localhost opens the default web page just fine.
2) Tried installing PHPmyadmin. Got 404 errors attempting to access any files in that directory.
3) Moved the default index.html.en into a folder named osxs. Got 404 errors trying to access those files. HOWEVER, localhost still finds that page in the root directory, which it shouldn't.
4) Moved WordPress default files into root folder. Localhost still shows default OSXS page.
Is there a cache that needs to be refreshed? I've tried turning Apache off and on again, with no luck.

I'm going to guess you're reading some directions for an older OS X release, or for OS X client and not OS X Server.
404 is "not found". That'll usually show up in the Apache logs, including the requested (failed) path. When maintaining and particularly troubleshooting a web server, you'll always be reading the server logs and the web server logs.
If you've not already done so, use Server.app to create a web site underneath /library/server/web/data/sites and load your content management system there. Don't create that directory elsewhere. Keep it in that path. At least not yet. (Apache intentionally doesn't allow folks to navigate random parts of the file system.)
OS X Server requires functional DNS, as well. To verify that, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and issue the following harmless diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll require an administrative password, might show a one-time informational message around the use of sudo, and will then display some network information and then an indication that no changes are required, or that there are DNS or network problems.
Do not use .local nor .arpa as your domain.

Launch the Server application. In the menubar, click on Help -> Removing Server.
As a courtesy, here is what Help -> Removing Server says:
"Uninstall the Server app from your Mac by dragging it to the Trash, your Mac is reset to a client user system. However, File Sharing and Open Directory services, and their data, remain on your Mac, but only as local client services. You manage file sharing data in Sharing preferences and Open Directory data in Users & Groups preferences in System Preferences."

Upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mavericks server: issue with authenticated bind

Hello, I have tried upgrading a 10.6.8 server to 3.1.2 Mavericks server and found I can't bind 10.9.x clients.
I need to keep using authenticated bind to manage clients in Workgroup Manager
I have exported the 10.6.8 OD database and imported into a clean installation of Mavericks 3.1.2 server and everything went fine that far.
I then noticed that authenticated bind in Mavericks now requires SSL and the certiicate.
Once I have imported the 10.6.8 OD database into the new server (same name and IP), only the selfsigned certificate coming from the 10.6.8 server is being imported and OD service remains "unprotected" without any certificate assigned (it seems I can't change this)
The problem is I can successfully bind 10.8.x clients against the 10.9 server while this seems not to be possible with 10.9.x clients when using authenticated bind.
If I create a new OD domain, there's an intemediate certificate assigned by default and I can bind 10.9.x clients (authenticated bind).
Am I missing something obvious?

@Strontium90 I am aware I should move to profiles and I am working towards this goal, but I had mixed results as far as reliability here.
Anyway, I took my time to perform the upgrade once again from scratch and it's defenatly something related to certificates
The only way to (authenticated) bind a 10.9 test client is when I create a new OD domain and the server uses the intemediate certificate that it's automatically created and assigned to OD service
Using the sefl-signed certificate (the existing one - that is imported along with the OD DB - or a new one assigne to it) does not work with the imported DB.
This is the error I get when I try to bind with dsconfigldap

Mavericks Server VPN client connection won't work

I have read many of the problems regarding remote clients not being able to connect to Mavericks Server 3.0 via L2TP outside of the network.
My understanding that Apple has fixed this with 3.02 update.
Since the update, I tried to setup my first time VPN connection and am having similar problems to the noted prior issues.
Mavericks Server has DNS, OD, and VPN setup and running with most current update as of 2/4/14.
My Airport Extreme router is managed via Server App and has VPN ports opened. Have shutoff Back to My Mac and Find my Mac also on the server. I have also put in my hostname miniserver."example".com into the DNS on my Fatcow registrar pointing to my public IP address. "example" obviously being my domain name.
My Mavericks Macbook Pro has been setup with VPN client/shared secret and the public ip address of my router. The Macbook will connect to the VPN inside the network, but will not connect outside of the local network. Have tried setting up my home Mavericks iMac with the same result.
Have read other discussions regarding copying the old racoon vpn from mountain lion server, but understand that shouldn't be necessary as Apple has allegedly fixed the problem. Also do not want to have to redo everytime Apple pushes out a Server update.
First time I have ever setup VPN and seems close, but not quite, to working.
