Clients not updating from new WSUS server

I had 2 DCs in place running 2008 and 2003. The 2003 server was also running WSUS. It has been replaced with a 2012 R2 Essentials server which is now the FSMO holder and I installed WSUS on it using the standard options like I always do. Administration
runs on 8530.
I updated the GPOs with the new server's name. All clients can ping the WSUS server by name. All clients are reporting to the server and updates have been approved days ago. However none of the clients, including the server itself, are seeing any new updates
available even though the WSUS console shows they are reporting.
I've searched the registry of the 2008 DC for references to the old WSUS server and none were found. I looked in the registry key where you would find the value put there from the GPO and it correctly shows the current WSUS server.
I looked in the windowsupdate log on the 2008 DC and I don't see any errors. So I'm stumped as to why the clients can at least see the WSUS server and report to it but they aren't seeing the approved updates. Any ideas?
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Have you checked if the update is downloaded successfully? The update will not be available until it has been downloaded on the WSUS server.
Best Regards.

Yes the updates have all downloaded as verified in the WSUS console. So the updates are there, the clients are reporting in and showing what updates they need, but what is not happening is that final connection so you see the little "pending updates"
icon in the system tray. I've done wuauclt /detectnow many times (used to doing this with other sites I manage) and had WU check for updates but it always shows none available.

  • Why won't my clients register with my new WSUS server??

Hi All,Been running WSUS 3.0 SP2 on Server 2008 for a good few years now (originally moved away from it running on Server 2003 when I first started in my current role), and a couple of days back, I finally got round to throwing up a new 2012 VM with the WSUS role installed...When I moved clients from the 2003 WSUS to the 2008 instance, literally all I did was change the intranet location in the GPO I had created for WSUS to point to the 2008 server, and voila! Clients started reporting in within a few hours! This time, it's been 2 days now, and even though I've changed the GPO, and verified that it has updated on the clients by using GPResult, none of them have contacted the new WSUS server yet...I've tried running wuauclt with the /detectnow and /reportnow switches, and nothing. How exasperating!

  • 2012 R2 machines not finding updates from 2012 WSUS Server

So I've seen some similar things to what I'm seeing mentioned but haven't found an exact replica.
Our WSUS machine is running Server 2012 and syncs its patches down from a different WSUS machine also running 2012.
    WSUS is version 6.2.9200.
We have spun up a number of 2012 R2 VMs lately and just noticed that those machines are not getting their updates.  The machines running 2012 Non-R2 are working just fine.
The windowsupdate.log file from one of the 2012 R2 machine has various lines such as:
WARNING: Network Cost is assumed to be not supported as something failed with trying to get handles to wcmapi.dll
WARNING: CSerializationHelper:: InitSerialize failed : 0x80070002
WARNING: Failed to get Wu Exemption info from NLM, assuming not exempt, error = 0x80240037
WARNING: Failed to get Network Cost info from NLM, assuming network is NOT metered, error = 0x80240037
I've seen reference to a KB article that applies to WSUS 3.2 but we don't have that so I'm not sure what else we can try.
    Any ideas would be great.
    Thanks!

Here's a whole chunk of the log...

  • Address book card not updating from LDAP on server

I am running 10.5.6 on a MacBook and connecting to a 10.5.6 server. If I search the LDAP directory in Address Book and add a found card to my Address Book, it should update automatically with any changes - the box is ticked in the LDAP Preferences in Address Book.
The thing is, updates are not happening. I can connect to the server and searches come up with the information I want, but cards previously dragged to the Address Book from an earlier search never get updated.
    Any ideas, anyone?

    Hi,
If a new OAB is set as default, please check whether the OAB folder in the following path is the latest date in Exchange sever:
    a. OAB generated in Mailbox:
    \\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ ExchangeOAB
    b. OAB distribution in Client Access:
    \\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\OAB
If the OAB file is not generated, please collect any event logs in Mailbox server and provide your OAB virtual directory information for more troubleshooting. If the files in both of two folders are latest,
we can try the following steps in Outlook to download Offline Address Book:
    1. Delete the *.oab files in the following folders in local machine:
         \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books
    2. Create a new Outlook profile that uses Cached Exchange Mode.
    3. Start Outlook 2010 with this new profile.
    4. In the ribbon click Send / Receive, click
Send/Receive Groups and then click Download Address Book.
For more information about OAB downloading and updating, please refer to Q5 to Q20 in:

  • Testing updates with a new WSUS server

We recently created a new WSUS server and added a test target group consisting of 6 test PCs. My question is if I approve updates tonight to just the target group, will I be able to push out those same updates to our staff PCs next Thursday? (We typically
approve updates on the 4th Thursday of the month for a 3:00am Friday install via our WSUS GPO.) Or will the staff PCs miss out on this month's updates due to the test push? I.e.: is it "one and done" with the approved updates.
    Thanks
    Hank Vare

A couple of thoughts to share....
First, with respect to your approvals. This is exactly why target groups exist. So if today (Thursday) you approve updates for the target group, then the computers in that target group will get these updates sometime over the next 24-48 hours (depending
on a lot of variables that affect the process from the time of approval to the time of installation). When you're ready to deploy them to more systems, you just ADD the approvals for the extra target group(s) that contain the additional systems.
Second... approving updates on Thursday for a 3am Friday installation is a procedure likely doomed to some percentage of failure. In fact, if you've already been doing this I'm surprised it hasn't already happened. So let's dive into some of those "variables"
I mentioned in the first paragraph and better understand the risks.
When you approve the updates, they have to be downloaded from Microsoft. That takes some amount of time.
AFTER the updates are downloaded from Microsoft, the client has to "check in" with the WSUS Server to see if there are any new/available updates to download. That "check in" could occur at anytime up to 22 hours AFTER the updates have
been downloaded (which, right here, already blows the 3am target).
When the client has discovered available update to download, then it actually has to download them AND the download has to complete before 3am Friday, or those updates will not be scheduled for installation at your weekly event.
NOW.. having said that, introducing a TEST GROUP may actually mitigate some of that risk -- unless your test group is also scheduled to install updates ONLY on Friday at 3am, in which case, some of your test group might not get any updates at all.
As a general rule, your initial approval of an update should be at least 48 hours in advance of the time in which you want the clients to actually install the updates. This gives the WSUS server several hours to download the updates, it accounts for the
up-to-22-hours that may lapse before the client discovers the updates as available, and it gives the client several hours to download the updates from the WSUS server, so they are on the local machine prior to the scheduled installation time.
Additionally, if there are downstream/replica servers involved in the environment, you'll need to add another 48 hours for each level of replication -- because replica servers get updates exactly like clients do.

  • New WSUS server same name

I setup a new WSUS server and then changed name of old one to something else and then renamed new one what the old one was. None of the clients are connecting to new WSUS server even though the GPO should be pointing to correct name. Is there something else
I have to do in order for PCs to sync now?

    Hi Jason,
    Agree with Daniel.
Besides, do you install the WSUS on Windows Server 2012 R2? If yes, have you change the port in the GPO? WSUS server has changed the default port in Windows Server 2012R2.
On WSUS 3.2 and earlier, port 80 for HTTP and 443 for HTTPS
On WSUS 6.2 and later (at least Windows Server 2012), port 8530 for HTTP and 8531 for HTTPS
    Best Regards.

  • Clients cannot update from WSUS server - error 8024400E

Alright, so I'm troubleshooting our WSUS server and seem to be stuck. I am running WSUS 3.2.7600.226 on Server 2003.  The client I have been using for testing is Windows 7 x64, but we have this issue on all clients (XP, 7 x86, and 7 x64).  I started
with an error of 800B0001 and after googling installed KB2720211 to fix it. Now I am getting error 8024400E on clients when I attempt to update. I followed a technet walkthrough and verified that my WSUS settings are all correct (at least regarding iis,
registry, gpo settings, and file system permissions). I am able to download CAB files from the WSUS server by going to the proper address in a browser. Here is a snippet from my WindowsUpdate log on my client:

I focused in on "GetAuthorizationCookie failure, error = 0x8024400E, soap client error = 7, soap error code = 400, HTTP status code = 200" and did some googling which all points at Microsoft Office 2003 SP1 update as being the culprit, and I followed
the instructions on a technet site to disable the update and am still getting the same error. I'm stumped at this point, and I thought I would post here in the hope that someone can help me before I end up just wiping it out and reinstalling (which I'm worried
    won't even solve it).

While you're definitely on the right track, the Office2003SP1 update really has not been an issue since WSUS Service Pack 2 was released in October 2009 (and really, the Office2003SP1 update that was the cause of this was replaced long before that even,
so you probably don't even have the defective update on your server).
However, the error is generally associated with the presence of defective update(s) on the WSUS server, so the first thing to do is address any potential issues caused by a failed install of KB2720211.
If the error still persists after verifying that all other aspects of the server are fully operational, review the list of not-Declined updates on your WSUS server and make sure that:
All Expired updates are Declined (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the expired updates).
All approvals for older revisions have been removed (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the older revisions).
All approvals for superseded updates have been removed. (And then, when they report as 100% Not Applicable, decline them, and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard so that it can delete the files associated with those updates).
Once all of the potentially problematic updates have been removed from the view of the Windows Update Agent, and if this error then persists, we can evaluate it from a more focused perspective.

  • Export Approuved Update from old server WSUS to the new WSUS server

    Hello,
I want to export all update approuved from one old WSUS server  to one  new WSUS server
Can you help me please ?
    Best Regard

    Hi,
    >>I want to export all update approuved from one old WSUS server  to one  new WSUS server ?
There are three steps to exporting and then importing updates:
Make sure that the options for express installation files and update languages on the exporting server are compatible with the settings on the importing server. This ensures that you collect the updates you intend to distribute.
Copy updates from the file system of the export server to the file system of the import server.
Export update metadata from the database on the export server, and import it into the database on the import server. The last section explains how to import exported updates to a replica server
    Here is the official solution:

  • FCS Not Updating from WSUS / Cannot open MOM Console / Cannot connect to MOM DB

    Hi,
My original problem was that FCS was not updating from WSUS. Then after reading up, and trying a whole lot of different things I managed to break it further. Now I cannot open the Microsoft Forefront Client Security Console on the management server, The
Administrator Console and the Operator Console cannot connect to the Management server (They are on the management server)
As a side note: The reporting hasn't worked at all, not even after the last Systems Admin reloaded the whole FCS implementation.
I need assistance to get everything working again, and I think it might take a while to get everything resolved.
I don't know what information to provide so here is some to start with:
I believe this is a on server topology:
    1. There is the management server, with all the roles except the "distribution" role installed.
    2. The updates to FCS are set to go through our WSUS server.
    3. The WSUS server works fine in all regards except to push the FCS updates through (I release other MS updates every week and they all go through)
    4. Management server is 32-bit Windows Server 2008 Standard with SP1, with Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (Unsure of SP1 is installed, but I think it is), and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (It doesn't have the SQL Studio thing)
    5. I have domain admin credentials
    6. When opening the Microsoft Forefront Client Security console it crashes with a "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it". Clicking on ok gives a new error page of exception: "System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException"
    7. Opening the Operator console give a message of "Error connecting to server" and clicking on ok brings up the console settings where you specify the MOM management server etc
    8. Opening the Administrator conolse immediately brings up the "Connect to a different MOM Management Server" window.
I am hoping that someone here can ask the right questions and helped get through all these issues to get this system working again

Thanks Quan and Faron for your replies. Firstly, when I logged into the server today and tried to open the consoles, the FCS console did not give me an error. Before I originally posted my message I already downloaded and tried that hotfix. The problem is
there is no SQL Management Studio. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is installed.
The only error that really stands out is this one under the application logs:
    Source: Microsoft Operations Manager
    Event ID: 20607
The Data Access Server (DAS) on computer SSCIS04 returned an error. System error code: -2147217770 System error text: IDispatch error #3222 DAS method called: ConfigurationGetOnePointFreeSpace Called from file: d:\bt\4\private\product\core\engine\managers\perfcountermanager\src\momperfcountermanager.cpp
Called from line: 984 Other than that there are some terminal server printer errors and print spooler errors (which are common on pretty much all our servers), and Heartbeat errors (Event ID: 21213: Heartbeat update failed for 1 or fewer agents. Error details:
    IDispatch error #3222)
I have just checked again and the FCS console is still opening without error. And I can start a scan. (No clients report back to the server though)

  • New WSUS server not showing computers correctly.

    Hi All,
I've recently migrated WSUS servers and everything has come intact apart from the grouping. The groups have come over but all the computers are showing under 'Unassigned Computers'.
I've manually removed and added a number of computers but it doesn't show any computers.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I've only just taken over setting up of WSUS from my colleagues and he's setup computer groups in WSUS and adds the computers to the groups via Active Directory Users and Computers.
    The WSUS GPO only sets
Allow non-administrators to recieve update notifications
Allow signed updates from an intranet Microsoft update service location
Configure Automatic updates (Configure automatic updating, Scheduled install day, scheduled install time)
Enabling Windows Update Power Management to automatically wake up the system to install scheduled updates
Specify intranet Microsoft update services location (Set the intranet service for detecting updates, set the intranet statistics server)
Turn on recommended updates via Automatic Updates
    Turn on Software Notifications.
Not sure how much help that is!
Well, that is your issue then, if you are using client side targeting with the WSUS Server you will need to place the WSUS Group in the Group Policy. Here is a good technet article to get you started.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708574(WS.10).aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • Lync 2013 Photos will not update from AD

I recently joined a company who has Lync 2013, Exchange 2010 and AD is at a 2003 functional level. We are experiencing issues where Lync photos are not updating from AD correctly. I have checked the pre-reqs;  Replicate this attribute to the Global
Catalog is set for the ThumbnailPhoto attribute. We are also forcing photos from AD only (or no photo) by setting the following:
    "Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity PhotosControl -DisplayPhoto PhotosFromADOnly"
and finally we are setting the photo in ad using:
"Import-RecipientDataProperty -Identity "Test User" -Picture -FileData ([Byte[]]$(Get-Content -Path "C:\pictures\testuser.jpg" -Encoding Byte -ReadCount 0))"
The pictures being uploaded are under 10KB and update within Outlook but never updates on Lync. I have also manually tried running the "Update-CsAddressBook" command from Lync and waiting 24hours + but the photo will not update in Lync. I have
also tried a 3rd party utility that grabs the attribute directly from each DC individually and each node is displaying the correct photo. Any Ideas?
EDIT: I did some more testing and can say with quite a bit of certainty there is something not quite right on the Lync side of things. I started with the company over a month ago and although users can see my original photo that was added to AD, I myself
do not even see it loaded in my client yet. I've completly dumped my local Lync cache but no change. Is there a specific Lync Server service that handles retrieving/pushing photos to the Lync clients?

Thank you so much for your reply, it was very helpful in understanding how the service is suppose to work however I have still not been able to correct the issue.
What I have found by using your article may have narrowed down the scope of the problem. I was able to find that on our Lync file store, the cached contacts/photos are being updated daily (as expected) and actually contain the correct photos. I confirmed
this be using abserver.exe on the .lsabs file and then locating the contactID for a few users I know are not updating properly. Once I have their contact ID I simply look for their .photo file in the cached files, copy it out to a different location and change
it to a .jpeg. To my surprise the photos are actually the correctly updated ones, so why are these no getting to the users/clients? I have gone through and deleted my local cache folder as well as the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
but unfortunately no change on my Client. I still see these users original photos.
Another piece of the puzzle; We are also working on letting mobile devices connect to our Lync infrasructure as well. This is not fully functional yet however during my testing I did get Lync client for android running for a little while and low and behold
the pictures are actually correct on my mobile device!! Surely this must give some kind of clue?
We are planning to upgrade Exchange from 2010 to 2013 and I hoping that leveraging the HiDef photo capabilities for Lync 2013 with Exchange 2013 may fix this issue. What do you guys think?

    Hi Experts,
Delta records not updating from DSO to CUBE

I cheked in Change log table in DSO its have 5 records
    ODSR_4LKIX7QHZX0VQB9IDR9MVQ65M -  -1
    ODSR_4LKIX7QHZX0VQB9IDR9MVQ65M -   0
    ODSR_4LIF02ZV32F1M85DXHUCSH0DL -   0
    ODSR_4LIF02ZV32F1M85DXHUCSH0DL -   1
    ODSR_4LH8CXKUJPW2JDS0LC775N4MH -   0
but active data table have one record - 0
how to corrcct the delta load??
    Regards,
    Jai

    Hi,
I think initially the value was 0 (ODSR_4LH8CXKUJPW2JDS0LC775N4MH - 0, new image in changelog) and this got loaded to the cube.
Then the value got changed to 1 (ODSR_4LIF02ZV32F1M85DXHUCSH0DL - 0, before image & ODSR_4LIF02ZV32F1M85DXHUCSH0DL - 1, after image). Now this record updates the cube with value 1. The cube has 2 records, one with 0 value and the other with 1.
The value got changed again to 0 (ODSR_4LKIX7QHZX0VQB9IDR9MVQ65M - (-1), before image &
ODSR_4LKIX7QHZX0VQB9IDR9MVQ65M - 0, after image). Now these records get aggregated and update the cube with (-1).
The cube has 3 records, with 0, 1 and -1 values....the effective total is 0 which is correct.
Is this not what you see in the cube? were the earlier req deleted from the cube?

  • Standar cost and product cost collector not updating the new price

    Hi,
Created Standard cost estimate for one FG product and runned the product cost collector. Based on that consumption delivery everthing is made. Later on the work center and activity type changed in routing. Now i am trying to run the standard cost with new activity price (due to work center change) for the current period, system is showing only the previous rate(previous period) and it is not updating the new price becuase of already we have created the product cost collector.
Can any one give the suggestion for how to update the new price in standard cost as well as new price updation in product cost collector.
    govind.

    Hi
    1. If the original cost estimate was run in the current month - Then you cant re-release cost estimate unless you reverse it from CKR1
If the cost estimate was of previous months - then you can definetely release it again
    2. In cost collector, you need to manually cost it again using the Preliminary costing feature... Your cost coll will then show 2 cost estimates i.e. One from Original date to current date-1, and 2nd from Current date to 31.12.9999
