Clients uanble to connect to DHCP server when renewing.

For the past week now, I get 2 or 3 windows 7 clients suddenly not able to get to the network when they first boot up, or when just logging back on. pc after coming back from lunch.
my script doesn't run for drive mappings either.
the IP address looks as though it is renewed.
ipconfig looks fine too.
when I ping the fqdn of the dhcp server, it say unable to find.. from the client.
I run a trace to the server from the client, and it drops and the last switch before reaching the server
but, all testing from computers around this client are working fine...
I suspect the problem to be with DNS or DHCP, but it is hard to pinpoint because I am not experiencing the problem with other computers at the time..
and the computers that are experiencing the problem are in different VLANs.
a couple ways I found fixes the problem
1. reboot the DHCP server
2.delete the ip from dHCP, and renew from the client to receive a new address
sorry if im all over the map..
thanks

You have a fair bit of work to do here. A domain does not work like a workgroup does.
If it was a workgroup, all you would need to do it to configure the server as a NAT router and everything wold work. The  NAT router would give the LAN machines Internet access from the private network and relay their DNS requests.
This will not work with a domain.
  There are several problems.
1.  Because you have a domain, all domain users must use the local DNS (on the domain controller). NO other DNS server can find your domain resources for them.
2. DNS relay does not work properly through NAT for a domain. The domain members must use the DC for DNS only and the DC must resolve DNS requests on their behalf.
3. You really should not run a DC on a multi-homed server and you certainly should not run it as a router.
What would I do in your situation?
1. Remove or disable the second NIC in the server.
2. Use a separate device as the router. Either a simple hardware router behind the cable modem or a combined modem/router device between the cable and the LAN machines (switch).
3. If you are running your own DHCP service, disable the DHCP function in the NAT router. (Two DHCP servers on the same LAN is a no-no). Set DHCP to give LAN clients the NAT router's local address as a gateway but the DC's IP address for DNS.
4. Set the DNS service in the DC to forward to a public DNS (your ISP's DNS or a public service like 4.2.2.2 or 8.8.8.8) .
Your LAN now has a domain where all machines use the router as gateway but the DC for DNS. The DC will resolve foreign URLs for itself and its DNS clients. The NAT router will give your LAN machines Internet access. (The NAT router gets the static
public IP, not the server.)
Stick with the 255.255.255.0 subnet. It provides plenty of addresses for your needs.

  • Client machines losing connection to Leopard Server

I have a small office set up as follows: 20" iMac (Intel) running Leopard Server. 4 client machines, all Macs, All Intel, also running Leopard client. I have these machines connected to a Linksys 8 port 10/100 router...and then to a cable modem for Internet Access. The problem that I'm having is that the client machines lose connection to the server multiple times each day. A restart and reconnect seem to fix the problem...only temporarily. At first, I thought it might be the Linksys Router so I put a Gigabit switch in between the machines and the router with the same results. I have the router on a static IP of 192.168.1.2 and am not running DHCP, DNS, or any other services other than file sharing. If any of you have experienced this, I would greatly appreciate any direction you might have.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

It may be a 'typo' by you, but forget about 'appletalk' - this is not relevant to your problem (and pretty well redundant now). This looks like a TCP/IP issue.
What is doing your DHCP? Presumably you have checked to ensure that there is only the one dhcp server in your network, and another has not accidentally been enabled (on a server, router or airport). What is the dhcp range for the DHCP server?
Your post suggested that the servers, with static IPs, also 'drop off' the network. So a server IP cannot be pinged from a lan machine which has a correct IP assigned to it (rather than one which has a 169 address which obviously will not be able to ping it) ?
On your laptops, when connected via an ethernet cable, have a look at Network Prefs-> Show: Network Port Configurations. In what order are these? Specifically, I am wondering if Airport is getting prioritised above Built-in Ethernet and maybe there is a 'rogue' airport network which the laptops discover and attempt to join ahead of built-in ethernet.

  • Suddenly, thunderbird doesn't connect to remote server when i click "get messages".

Linux (ubuntu studio), 64 bit. Suddenly, thunderbird doesn't connect to remote server when i click "get messages". It just says "(account name): Connected to (mail server)" for a second or two at the bottom, then nothing. In the server logs, i get:
    popa3d[6408]: Didn't attempt authentication
Trying to get my e-mail also seems to cause a bunch of these errors on the server:
(server) kernel: [18295.775491] lockd: cannot monitor laptop
where "laptop" is the client machine.
The problem seems to be caused by my mailbox files (Inbox and Inbox.msf) - when i create a clean ~/.thunderbird directory, i can get my e-mails, but when i place my mailbox files in this account's Mail directory, the problem comes back. Even if i place it as another name, and not Inbox.

I should add the following information:
    - Neither "safe mode" or rebuilding the global-messages-db.sqlite file fixes the problem.
    - Seamonkey has no problems with my Inbox and Inbox.msf file.
    - The Inbox and Inbox.msf files are symlinks to files on a NFS filesystem.
    - Downgrading to an earlier version of thunderbird doesn't fix the problem.
    - Even if i remove the mail file from an account, the problem persists.
    - I confirmed that i can telnet to the server on the pop3 port and login with the raw protocol.
The above mentioned lockd errors make me think this is a NFS related error, but if that's the case, why is seamonkey able to read my Inbox file without problems but not thunderbird?

  • Both my iphone 4s and my ipad3 will not connect to the server when trying to access my email account. Why, and how do I fix it.

Since 29/10/2012 my iphone 4s and more recently my ipad 3 will not connect to the server when trying to access my email account. All I get is an error message saying that 'cannot get mail, connection to the server failed' I hadnt changed any settings it just happened. I have since done a complete re-boot on the ipad but to no avail. Anybody got any suggestions?

No. Everything was working fine and then it wasn't. I hadn't changed any settings or switched either one off. When the phone stopped working properly I ignored it because I always have my ipad with me but that just sopped working properly and now I am stuffed. I have tried most solutions suggested on here even wiping the ipad clean and re-booting. I did this exactly the same way as when I first got it but still no joy. The same with the phone.

  • No contact with DHCP server when using VPN Client

Pretty weird problem I discovered recently.
We use the VPN Client to connect to a 1841 router. Everything works fine except for one small thing.
The client do not send out _any_ traffic if the destination is the ip-address of the DHCP-server the client got its original ip-address from.
This is verified by Wireshark. A ping on the client do not produce any ESP packets towards the VPN concentrator. No matter what traffic you try actually.
Discovered this when wanting to use Remote Desktop towards the Windows Server that is the local DHCP server and was not able to connect. Then tested ping and still no response. That made me look closer and found out that I could not communicate at all with the DHCP server.
    As I said, pretty weird.
Anyone else have seen this? Anyone have a solution? Right now I use OpenVPN instead when I need to control that server.
    - Roger

    Hi and thanks for responding.
Nothing here apart from being unable to send any packets to the dhcp-server. No problem sending to any other system on the same subnet. The same happens when I connect my pc to another subnet that is served by another dhcp-server. Then I can not connect to _that_ dhcp-server. I can then of course connect to the previous dhcp-server.
I mean _no_ packets are generated out the client at all if the destination are your dhcp-server. No problem with the packet being blocked by a firewall or anything like that. Ping another system on the same subnet as the dhcp-server and the client happily generates ESP packets and sends them to the vpn-concentrator.
I do not know if it was clear enough in the first post so I am saying it here: the vpn-concentrator gives out the ip for the vpn connection. The dhcp-server I can not connect to is the server that gives the client its ip-address _before_ starting up the vpn client.
We use this vpn system so the IT personell will be able to connect to restricted resources from their laptops anywhere in the network, also when using wireless.
This was discovered when one admin wanted to connect from his laptop to a server that also happened to be the dhcp-server that had given his laptop his ip address before he used vpn.
Should be easy enough for anyone else to test. Just ping your dhcp-server after starting the vpn connection. No RFC 1918 addresses of course, there must be a route from your vpn-concentrator to your dhcp-server and at least icmp echo must be open through any firewall/acl.
The vpn version is 4.8.00.0440 on Windows XP configured to not allow local LAN access. I might test this with other versions/OS'es when I have the time.

  • DHCP Failover, one DHCP Server Partners Supnet is deactivated, Clients losing network connectivity for 3 sec. after renewing they IP Adress

    Hello,
currently we are using two W2K12R2 DHCP server configured in "load balance Mode". On DHCP1 the IP-scope with failover partnership to DHCP2 is deactivated. DHCP2 is working fine. Now we register that 50 percent of our clients (W2K8R2 application
server) losing the network connectivity for 3 sec. after rereleasing they IP-Address. On DHCP2 servers eventlog we receive a lot of
BINDING ACK reject events 20291 and 20292 for these IP addresses entries.
These 3 sec. of loosing they Network connectivity is our big Problem because the Client application (W2K8R2 application server) cannot handle these timeout. It looks like a
DISCOVER-OFFER-REQUEST-NAK cycle that are described here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/teamdhcp/archive/2014/02/26/dhcp-failover-patch-to-address-a-reservation-issue-and-another-issue-related-to-failover-partner-not-accepting-state-transition-from-bad-address-gt-active-has-been-released.aspx#pi47623=2
there is a solution to prevent the 3 sec network failure?
    Rgds

    Hi Steffen,
Have you applied KB2919355 in the server?
If issue persists, please check the detailed information about the event. It will tell us why does the server send the NAK.
    Best Regards.

  • Lync client cannot connect to Exchange Server when accessing from outside (Internet) - please HELP!

    Hello,
I have full representation of the Lync 2010 from Outside (i.e. Internet), but I still have small issue related to Lync-to-Exchange integration. Clients who is using Lync client from outside (i.e. Internet) cannot see Exchange-related information including
Call Logs, Voicemail and Calendar information.
Here is the experience and error messages that anyone will see when connecting to Lync server from Outside:
And this is the error message that will be displayed on Lync phone edition devices (a.g. Polycom CX-700) when connected from Internet:
If somebody can suggest what I can try I would appreciate this very much. I do believe that many other people have this issue as well.
    Thanks!

Hi, we had this issue and I ended up logging a MS support job. Turns out it was the TMG rule/Auth method causing the issue.
    Job details:
    **Symptom:
Lync Client External User are not able to retrieve the EWS URL
    **Troubleshooting:
    • We found External users are not able to Retrieve the EWS information in the Lync Client .
    • We found the below error in the ETL logs.We found for EWS request we are getting the  401 response
HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized ( The server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web server is denied. Contact the server administrator.  )
    • TMG need pass through Authentication
Public names are  autodiscover.domain.com and Outlook anywhere External FQDN  and paths are /ews/* and /autodiscover/*, OAB/*
Users is All Users, and Delegation is "No delegation but client may authenticate directly" on the corresponding tabs of the publishing rule.
This changes is required for Lync Client as Lync Client does not  work well with this BASIC authentication on TMG .
    • After  TMG engineer changed this settings in the TMG users are able to see EWS information.

  • Proxy client (over USB connection) with DHCP assigned IP address doesn't work with FRDM-K64F

    Hello,
after reading about the issues on this forum with a static IP address on the Freescale FRDM-K64F board I went for an DHCP address but I can't get the proxy client to work over a USB connection with DHCP either.
My console tells me the following:
    RTC Time: Wed 2014-01-01 00:07:27
    Network initialized
IP Address:      10.143.xxx.yyy (xxx and yyy is real numbers, just changing them for the forum to letters)

    Gateway:         10.143.xxx.yyy
    MAC-address:     00:0c:00:06:70:00
And when I try o to connect with the following command :
    java -jar proxy.jar -socket 10.143.xxx.yyy
I get the following output and no CLI interface:

    Connected to the socket: Socket[addr=/10.143.xxx.yyy,port=2201,localport=49605]

I don't know if this matter but my java version is:
    java version "1.8.0_31"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_31-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.31-b07, mixed mode)
Any ideas or am I missing something completely?
    Thanks
    Andy

Hi, Andy. Please excuse my ignorance, I am very new at this ME embedded stuff. I had my challenges, but was finally able to get my board up with a static address. I went through a lot of headaches, but finally got the board flashed with the latest bin. I then updated the jwc_properties.ini file on the SD card to include:
    # Whether static configuration or DHCP server is used do get IP address. Possible values: dhcp, static
    ip.method = static
    # IP address, used with static IP configuration only
    ip.addr = 192.168.0.30
    # Network mask, used with static IP configuration only
    ip.netmask = 255.255.255.0
    # Network gateway, used with static IP configuration only
    ip.gateway = 192.168.0.1
    # DNS server, used with static IP configuration only
    ip.dns = 208.67.222.222
    # MAC address
    mac.addr = 01:02:03:04:05:06
I was then put the card into the board, disconnected both USB cables, and then powered it up. From that point I was able to ping the board. I can now use Device Manager in NetBeans to connect to the device.
I am struggling quite a bit with many issues. It seems that when I try to stop the app from NetBeans, the "please wait" dialog hangs forever. I have to use Windows Task Manager to kill the "JavaW" process tree and reconnect the board.
I have also had trouble understanding the GPIO pin assignments. Another gotcha was trying to use the AutoStart feature. Since the sample app never cleanly exited, I thought that I bricked the board. The secret is to power it down, remove the SD card, and then delete all files EXCEPT the jwc_properties.ini file, put the SD card back in, then power up. It seems that the board forgets that the MIDlet was installed.
Hope this helps others out there.
Please everybody, post your experiences here. There seem to be very few of us, and finding pearls in the dust is rare right now.
    Regards,
    Pete

  • New client cant get ip from dhcp server (web authentication)

We have WLC 5508 with two SSID staff (vlan 58, PSK auth) and customer (vlan 48, web auth)
Recently, new client can connect to SSID staff without problem but It cant get IP when it connect to Customer SSID.
many other client ( smart phone, laptop) which connect for few week still connect to Customer normally.
DHCP server still have a lot of IP for wireless client.
We want to use firewall to make policy for Customer so we put gateway of vlan 48 on the firewall.
Please check the dubug client file.
    Thanks.

The debug just shows a single DHCP Discover attempt when attaching to WLAN with VLAN 48 interface.  It appears the client is simply not pulling an IP (not the WLCs responsibility), although you are using DHCP-Proxy.
Can you put a wired client in VLAN 48 on the same switch as the WLC and have a client pull an IP?

  • Win7 clients can't connect to OSX Server after 10.10.2 and Server 4.0.3 update

I'm troubleshooting an annoying issue with our Yosemite fileserver at work and hoping someone has suggestions.
The server is running Yosemite, clients a mix of MacOS from 10.6 through 10.10, and some Windows 7 boxes.
With the server on 10.10.1 and the just-prior version of Server (4.0, I assume; were 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 ever available to the public?), everything basically worked. Last night, I updated the server to 10.10.2 and 4.0.3.  Nothing unusual during the update apart from a bunch of spotlight indexing processes running as individual users sucking up a lot of CPU for the first few minutes, which may be normal.
However, now almost all the Macs are fine, but the Windows clients are all getting permissions errors when trying to connect. Even weirder, one Yosemite client was also getting an error on login when trying to connect via SMB, both on 10.10.1 and 10.10.2; the same computer connecting via AFP works fine.
I'm inclined to think that it has something to do with the switch to SMB3 mentioned in the changelog for Server 4.0.3, although I'm not 100% sure that didn't exist under 4.0 as well, and if this is the problem I'm not sure what to try to fix it.
I'm already aware of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel needing to be at least 3 (or non-existent, so it defaults to 3 on Win7) to work with Yosemite; these clients already have that registry key set. Suggestions?

Addendum:  I just realized that the Windows users *can* see their own home folder when they connect to the server without the main share I'm trying to mount specified.  So it's not that they're completely unable to connect, it's just that the server isn't offering them any of the main share when they do.
When I tried mounting the server from 10.6 manually forcing SMB (with an admin user, no less), I got the same thing--just my user folder, none of the main shared volumes...

Automatic discovery of the Lync server failed. Please verify the server requirements at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=278998 . Lync mobile apps do not require automatic discovery. You could enter the server FQDN manually and test connectivity again.
Microsoft Lync Connectivity Analyzer cannot analyze deployment readiness until a discovery test has completed successfully.

    Hi
Is that Port 443 opened? check the fire wall.
is that external Lync clients are logging in with out any issues.
by seeing the Log it is unable to connect on port 443

  • Addon in Client is not connecting to SQL Server 2005

Hi, we have an add-on, which is working in SBO 2005 with SQL Server 2000.
When the addon tries to connect to the same DB, restored on a SQL Server 2005, the addon is hanging up on the oCompany.Connect method. But this only happens when we try a remote connection from a SBO client.
If we run the addon from the SBO server, where the SQL Server is running too, the addon completes the connection in the expected way.
The SBO Client is connecting to the server, and works fine, but the addon is not connecting to the server.
We try to connect to the server from the client, using SQL Query Analizer from SQL Server 2000, and it works fine too.
Does anyone knows how to fix this issue?
    Thanks

Hi Alejandro, thanks for your response.
After installing SBO Patch 20 the add-on is now connecting fine, so I think it must be an upgrade on the new DI API. I noticed the version changes from 6.80.318 to 6.80.319
I had checked the SQL to confirm is was allowing remote connections.
    Thank you guys.

    Best,
    Veerannna Ronad.

    Hi Manaf,
Seems you are also facing same problem. This problem comes when shared service failed to start. There is dependency with OpenLDAP. OpenLDAP service most of the time gets corrupted. You need to recover this service. There is a recover exe located at <<Hyperion installation folder>>\products\Foundation\openLDAP\var\openldap-data\db_recover.exe, run this and start the Essbase services in sequences.
    Service starting sequence:
    1) Hyperion Foundation Shared Services - Web Application
    2) Hyperion Essbase Services 11.1.1 - hypservice_1
    3) Hyperion Administration Services - Web Application
and rest you can start as required.
    This should solve your problem.
    Best,
    Veeranna Ronad.

but when I connect the same port, eth1, to a router, and the router to the "internet connection", the router gets an ip and dhcpcd -d eth1 gets a 192.168 address and is all fine.
    Weird isnt it?
    What could this be?

    Hi,
sadly not able to really help you, but It seems that I'm having the same problem.
I'm running an up to date arch install (with testing enabled) and for some strange reason one of the dhcp servers I use does not ever return any packets at all to me.
Openwrt on my home network works like a charm, but here in the office I do not get an ip (or any reply at all sadly) from our dhcp server. I don't know what server we're running though ...
    kind regards

  • Mail.app doesn't hava connection with imap server when changing network.

Ive got a strange problem after upgrading OSX from 10.6.8 to 10.8.4.
I have got a xserve, with osx 10.6.8. (mail) server installed on it.
When i am in the office (LAN) mail works just fine. if iam home and wake my macbook from sleeping i see in the mail app the attention mark telling my something is wrong with the mail account.
If i open the connection doctor it say's can't connect to IMAP server. if i check my iOS devices there is nothing wrong, everything is working and i can send/recieve mail. on iOS and OSX the settings are the same with SSL enabled and password type.
When i tried to telnet the mailserver address with the IMAP or SMTP port i get a connection. so, there is no firewall blokking my connection.
But now the strange thing when i quit my mail.app and start it again the mail gets connection again. So is there a problem when changing networks when the Mail.App is stil active?

That's just to bad, will it be solved in a future release of OSX?
I don't know... maybe Apple will force me migrating to Mavaricks.
it seems that although w'r using DNS, the outside ip gets remebered or the connection isn't closed down properly when putting the macbook to sleep.
I can try offcource to configure the outside LANip (Non dns) in my mail client.
    I will post with results..
