Clip audio gets quieter after enabling multi-cam.

I have a sequence with two video tracks and one stereo audio track (recorded separtely and synced), and placed it into my "main" sequence for editting. Before enabling multi-cam, the audio levels are noticibly higher, and once setting multi-cam to enable, the volume levels drop about 2-3db. I then have to raise the volume to compensate for that. Is this a bug or something particular about the way multi-cam clips are handled?
Steve

This is normal.  Multicam by default only uses Audio 1 of the source sequence.

  • Im loosing audio when I enable Multi-Camera

First, a rundown of my system and software:
Vista Ultimate x64 Service Pack 2
    Q6600 Quad Core
    8 Gig
    (2) Western Digital 74GB 10,000 RPM SATA Raptor's
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
Im just now delving into multi-camming in Premiere, and, I can get it to work perfectly, to a point.
I will describe, briefly, and quick, because I am good up to the point that I experience my problem.
I create my first sequence, import three video clips, kill the audio on clips 2, and 3, set my clip markers, synchronize based on numbered markers, then create another sequence, with only 1 video, and 1 audio track,  to nest the first sequence in.
Drag the first sequence into the second, and scrub it. I have audio, as I should at this point.
But as soon as I right-click on that single video track, and enable Multi-Camera, I no longer have any audio.
All video windows, and aspects are there, and working perfectly.
If I go up to Edit, and then Undo, to dis-enable the Multi-Camera, then I get my audio back again.
Any tutorial, or instructional video I watch on this process, they still have audio, after enabling Multi-Camera, as you should.
Why do you think I am loosing my audio, just at that step?

Believe it or not, I ended up solving this mystery myself.
And the explanation is quite long, and tediously detailed, but, I’ll try to explain while keeping it as brief, and concise as possible.
The problem actually lies in the setting up, track wise, of your initial sequence.
Ill first explain the correct way, and then I’ll explain why my way did not work.
Be very careful to design your initial sequence, given all the details of the video clips that you’re going to use.
If you’re going to use 3 video clips, and all 3 video clips have stereo audio tracks, design your initial sequence with just that, 3 video tracks, and 3 “stereo” audio tracks.
But what you have to remember is, and this may be where the misconception comes into play, but, within Premiere, in the “New Sequence” box, under the, “Tracks” tab, is where you setup how many video tracks, and audio tracks you want this sequence to have. So, if you have 3 video clips with mono sound, naturally you would want to change the setting to “3”, for the number of video tracks, and “3” for the number of mono audio tracks, under the audio section.
    Wrong.
First thing under the Audio section, is the setting for the, “Master” audio track, or, audio track #1.
So, if you would have followed the above scenario, you now would have 4 audio tracks, instead of just 3 mono as you entered.
    Why?
Being that the “Master” audio track, or audio track #1, is by default set to “Stereo”, via its drop down selection menu, Premiere will not put any of your, “mono” track info on audio track #1, because audio track #1 is set to stereo, so it will start filling, “after” track #1, and on downwards, creating a new, or 4th audio track, as in, your 3 mono tracks will go on track 2, track 3, and the newly created, track 4.
The correct way to have done the above scenario, would have been to create 3 video tracks, 1 “master” audio track of mono, and 2 mono audio tracks. That would give you 3 total mono audio tracks.
Always remember to use the “Master” audio track, as your first audio track.
So what happened in my scenario?
Well, first, I forgot to remember that the “master” audio track, or audio track #1, had to be manually assigned by using its drop down selection menu, to pick either mono, stereo, etc.  And by me not setting it, its default state was stereo.
Well, I had 3 video clips, only one clip had audio, and it was mono.
So, immediately, that means that my mono audio “WILL NOT” be on audio track #1.
    Well, so what?
Well, I also discovered through tedious trial and error, of creating 3 seperate mono videos of me speaking 1 on video 1, 2 on video 2, and 3 on video 3, that once you enable Multi-Camera, in your second sequence, Premiere tracks, …you guessed it, audio track #1.
And at this point, I have nothing on audio track #1, because it was set, by default, to stereo.
Thus why I had no audio, as soon as I enabled Multi-camera.
The true moral, just pay close attention to setting up your initial sequence, and you “should” have no problems.
Thanks once again to all who attempted to help, you folks are great.

  • Audio out of sync with multi-cam

    Hi *,
I searched the forum with no big success. Many people seem to have the no-audio problem with multicam. My problem is different.
I enabled the multi-cam feature in CS4.1 in the preview (source) monitor. I have 2 video tracks (1 MPG, 1 AVCHD). Both appear and are in sync. Also the audio is in sync as long as the multi-cam feature is turned off. As I turn it on and play the monitor, it's totally out of sync with the video. Totally means, that it's really about 40 minutes away.
    Any ideas?

My only recommendation is to just not use GOP-based media.  It's a bad idea at it's core and issues like this are not uncommon.

    Hi All,
We have a strange issue with our production environment. After enabling password expiration on the enterprise some accounts got disabled,on further investigation I found that these users were either trying to log on to Designer or 2 tier Deski.

    Hi Tim,
These accounts are Enterprise accounts, according to the users they were not given a chance and they never got any prompt for the password change it was disabled directly at the first login.
These people were trying to logon using the Desginer or 2 Tier DESKI login and they are the members of the Administrtor Group also.
Is it important to logon to infoview or 3 tier DESKI to change your password?
I have no answer to give them why there accounts were disabled.

    Hi Sridhar,
Please compare the DTS settings on the Windows 7 computer and the Windows Server 2008 R2 computer and make sure they are identical.  Make sure the “Allow Inbound” and “Allow Outbound” options are check, and pay attention to the authentication mode as
    well.
Besides, make sure both Distributed Transaction Coordinator (TCP-In) and Distributed Transaction Coordinator (TCP-Out) rules in Firewall are enabled.
If the issue persists and there are any security/anti-virus software, temporarily disable the security/anti-virus software and check the issue again.

  • Audio goes quiet after watching a while

This is happening far too frequently. We have been connected about a month.
After watching a channel for a while, it goes completely quiet. It's happened with NHL Network, Golf Channel and CNN. No specific pattern.
I go to LAST channel and sound is there, LAST back and quiet.
I've even tried powering off the STB and back on. No luck. Eventually it comes back.

Is this audio issue only happening on that one channel or other channels as well? Do you lose sound like that when watching a DVD or using a different source on your TV? To run a self diagnostic, press MENU, then goto CUSTOMER SUPPORT, then IN HOME AGENT, then SET TOP BOX AUTO CORRECTION. If that does not fix it, try from the same menu REBOOT STB. Send me a private message if further help is needed.

  • Audio is quieter after flex-ing?

Anyone else experience this or know how to fix it?
I'm not talking about the inherent degradation of audio quality caused by any timestretching algorithm, this is something else.
Even just a tiny flex of a long audio region makes the file a lot quieter, and you can see the waveform is noticably smaller on the graphical overview in the region itself.
maybe there is a setting somewhere which says 'drop the volume by xdB when using flex'? but i cant find it??
system = snow leopard, logic 9.1.5, 32bit, i7 iMac, bear amounts of RAM etc.

This is normal.  Multicam by default only uses Audio 1 of the source sequence.

  • Button Action is not getting captured after enabling

    Hi,
I have Button in a region with disabled property as true. And on process form request , i am changin the button disabled property to False. Now, when i click the button, processform request is getting called, but event is not getting captured.
    button properties:
    Action Type: fireAction
    Even: save
    Submit: True
Controlelr code: pageContext.getParameter(EVENT_PARAM) is returing null.
Can you let me know what needs to be done to capture the event.

    Hi,
Use the below sample code in your PFR starting that will give what are all the context parameters,
from that you should be able to find the event's parameter.
Get all the pagecontext form parameters using Enumeration
    import java.util.Enumeration;
    Enumeration enums = pageContext.getParameterNames();
    while(enums.hasMoreElements())
    String paramName = enums.nextElement().toString();
    System.out.println("Param names " paramName " -----> Param Values " + pageContext.getParameter(paramName));

  • Clips are getting distorted after rendering a color grade; any solutions?

I've been experiencing this problem as I've been learning to color grade.  Once I have all of my layers set the way I want them (initial correction, color alteration, masking, and sometimes adding a vinette) and I go to render, my clip will become completely distorted.  Is there any solution to this when it happens, or will I have to restart the grade completely?  Could there just be something I'm doing wrong in my workflow?  I'm open to any and all answers.

Pure guess, do you have set in preferences high quality in playback.

  • Multi-cam edit issues with multiple DSLR clips

    Hello,
Working in CC. I have 2 camera angles that were filmed with 2 DSLRs, and mic'd audio that was recorded into a Zoom H4N. Audio recording never stopped, but due to the nature of DSLRs, the 2 cameras would stop recording every 12 +/- minutes. In this end, I have:
    Camera 1 - 16 clips
    Camera 2 - 17 clips
    Zoom H4N - 1 track
When using the multi-cam source sequence option, it understandably thinks each clip is a new camera/angle. However, that's not very helpful for me when I have 17 angles (15 of which are blank) showing up in the program monitor. Any suggestions on how to better tackle this dilemma?
    Thank You.

Thanks, Mark. Appreciate the quick response. After messing around, I combined your method with PluralEyes (seemed less tedious that syncing 17 clips manually). There might be a faster/easier way, but this is what I did, in case any one is curious (sounds more tedious than it actual is):
    1. Select cam 1 clip 1, cam 2 clip 1 and external audio in the Browser.
    2. Left-click, "create Multi-Camera Source Sequence." Two angles and audio are now in a multi-cam sequence. Rename as Multicam_Source_Sequence
    3. Create new sequence, called Sequence_01 and open in timeline.
    3. Excluding cam 1 clip 1 and cam 2 clip 1, drag all remaining clips of cam 1 to V1, all remaining cam 2 clips to V2, and single external audio to A3 into Sequence_01 timeline.
    4. Launch Sequence_01 into PluralEyes 3. Sync and Export.
    5. Open PluralEyes' "Sequence_01_synced" (not "Sequence_01_synced Replaced") in timeline.
    6. Find a good marker point toward the beginning of the audio where it has synced cam 1 clip 2 and cam 2 clip 2. Cut at that point.
    7. Copy all video tracks (exclude audio tracks).
    8. Find Multicam_Source_Sequence and open in timeline (un-nested, so that all tracks are revealed).
    9. Manually find the same audio marker point where you cut in Sequence_01_synced. Place playhead directly at cut point.
    10. Paste video clips. All tracks are now synced in a multi-cam sequence.
From here, it's the usual steps for preparing multi-cam editing, like you mentioned.
    11. Create new sequence, called Multicam_Working_Sequence. Open in timeline.
    12. Make sure nesting button is turned on in timeline.
    13. Drag Multicam_Source_Sequence into Multicam_Working_Sequence.
    14. Right-click the nested sequence>Multi-Camera>Enable.
    15. Enable Multi-camera view in Program Monitor's panel menu.
Voila! Took me awhile, but this works. And no 17 angles popping up in the program monitor. Let me know if you'd add (or remove) anything. Thanks, again!

  • Audio limitation in CS6 multi-cam?

I'm trying to use stereo audio from my source files when I create a multi-cam clip (I've confirmed the source files are indeed stereo as there is different content on the left and right sides and when I bring that into a new sequence on it's own the source will use 2 audio tracks).
However, if I create a multicam clip in the media browser and bring that into a new sequence, the audio becomes mono and only refers to the left side of the source files and pans that center, making the right side unusable.
    Is this a bug?

If the right channel is on A1, and the left channel is on A2, then you must open the multi-camera source sequence in a Timeline and enable A2.
Here's the part of Help I wanted you to note:
By default, Premiere Pro CS6 only enables audio channel one in the multi-camera source sequence. For multi-camera editing workflow, enable other audio tracks manually before editing the target sequence. To enable audio tracks for the multi-camera source sequence, do the following:
Open the multi-camera source sequence by selecting the multi-camera source sequence icon in the Project panel, right-click (Win) or Ctrl-click (Mac OS) the icon, and then choose Open In Timeline.
The Timeline opens. Select the audio tracks, and then enable the other audio tracks by clicking the Toggle Track Output button for each audio track you would like to monitor.
Now that your chosen audio tracks are enabled, you can close the sequence.
You should now be able to monitor both channels as you cut your multicamera source sequence.
Let us know if that worked for you.

  • CS6 Multi-cam...multi audio?

Now I can't seem to figure this out for the life of me. Me and my friends have tried to do a 'lets play' type of video. So we have 3 different recordings of Xbox screens (done via HD-PVRs) which have 3 seperate audios. But using the multi-cam setting I can only get one of the audios to play or all 3 at the same time so it sounds like a mess.
How do I get it (if there's a way) to play the correct audio to the video currently being shown? I have gone into the sequence and toggled the track output on all 3 audios. Ticked and unticked the 'audio follows video' option inside the multi-cam screen, but to no avail?
I'm not sure if I'm just missing something or that it can't be done. Any help will be appriciated.

I've been a longtime Premiere user, but hadn't needed to delve deeper into Multicam sequences until a project I started today. I spent all morning and ran into the same limitation you described. Now that I've discovered a solution, I've been posting replies to all the threads that have had this issue, so someone searching for the solution like I did this morning may see it too!
Using screenshots and putting text together using Photoshop, you can view my workaround here:
The first step is creating your Multi-Cam sequence properly:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/38225717/Multi-camCS6_1.png
The second step is duplicating the multi-cam sequence's audio onto separate tracks, then enabling Multi-Camera on the audio. You then switch each audio to the corresponding track number.
Hopefully that makes more sense in the image:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/38225717/Multi-camCS6_2.png
It's not perfect by any means, and it's a little messy, but it'll get the job done. For me, it was a necessity as I am cutting scenes and may need to mute the boom track, adjust levels on a lav track, etc.
I hope my diagrams make sense; I sorta cobbled them together quick because I really wanted to share it with the Adobe community before heading back to work!

  • Editing more than 4 clips using the multi-cam function. cs5.5

How can I edit more than 4 clips at a time using the multi-cam function in 5.5?

Ok, here's what I have so far...I managed to split up the video and edited both in the multi-camera view. Now I want to join those together so that I can use the multi-camera view to edit them together. Is there a way to do that? I tried nesting them both and laying them on the same timeline to use the multi-camera function, but now, I only get one view again. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help so far also. This is very interesting!

  • Multi-Cam sync on audio vs inpoints

I have been following several links on the world wide web  on PP CC multi cam functionality.
In all of my research I caught a 32 milli-second snippet of of someone speaking while demonstrating Multicam where he something to the effect that using audio to sync video clips for the purpose of performing multi cam editing KEEPS the video clips in sync. No elaboration of any kind was said on this subject.
It seems to me that a 2 hour dance recital that I will doing a two camera shoot of can certainly "Drift" out of sync from the sync point that will be at the beginning of each clip, EG camera flash or hand clap.
I do not know what the time base in a typical camera is based on. I am guessing that a crystal controled oscillator running at several megacycles is what is used, but that is only a guess.
    HOWEVER,
If PP is keeping the clips in sync by ALWAYS looking at audio, then using audio to sync video clips is a Superior method over anything else. Besides, if a camera is accidently powered off / on you have nothing to do in terms of re syncing the cameras.
I just wish that there was more information about using audio for syncing clips in multi cam editing.
If anyone can elaborate on this subject I would very much appreciate it.
    Thanks

It seems to me that a 2 hour dance recital that I will doing a two camera shoot of can certainly "Drift" out of sync from the sync point
That's certainly not normal.  I'm not sure why you'd think it is.
Personally, I find manually syncing to be faster than PP's audio sync.
