Clip disappears

I am editing a music video in FCP. I have locked the base and am adding cutaways. I control clicked a cutaway to Motion to add an image mask, emitter and light overlay. It looked good in Motion and I wanted to return to FCP. The clip in FCP has the motn. label so things look good. I rendered the segment but cannot see the results in FCP segment and am now seeing the underlying clip as well as the clip I am working on that is in V2. In the browser in FCP is the new clip from Motion but it will not go into my segment. I do not understand why I am not seeing the clip from motion and why I am not seeing the underlying clip from track 1? Any idea as to what happen? Incidentally, I am not using the original media but am using the media transferred to my hard drive via media manager. I all the media from the project.

Yeah, but when things aren't working properly, you don't make assumptions about what things SHOULD be. Check the clip's settings to make sure it's the same (CMD+9).
So you're saying that the V2 clip is NOT SUPPOSED to be superimposed, but that it is? Did you check the opacity settings of the clip in V2? Did you apply a blend mode or adjust the opacity to the clip in Motion?
What happens when you trash the render? You can do this by selecting the clip in V2, and hitting OPTCMDV (remove attributes). Click ok without selecting anything, and that'll force FCP to update and you'll have to re-render the clip. Perhaps the render was bad.
If that doesn't do anything, how about right-clicking on the V2 clip and selecting "Open in Editor". That should load it back in Motion.
Failing that, you can try exporting the clip from Motion instead of your current workflow as a potential workaround. Also, since this behavior is not normal, you may want to trash your Motion and/or FCP preferences in case one or both are corrupt. I'd hope that it's just a bad render though.

  • Motion clip disappears while working in 3d

In Motion 4.0.3, I'm working in 3d mode with a clip I've dropped in a drop zone.  I have also applied a False Color Filter to the clip.  When I rotate the camera angle, the clip disappears.  I think this has something to do with the filter.  How can I get the clip to remain visible the entire time?  I'm about to try to apply the filter before I export from FCP, which I think will work, but I would like to know if I can use the filter in Motion and make it work.  (The clip is exported from FCP 7.0.3 in .mov format.)

Tried it again and applying a filter before exporting from FCP did fix the problem.  Still would like to know about the problem with applying the filter to a video clip in motion when changing camera angles in 3d though.

  • Source clip disappeared from hard drive!

    Hi everybody,
Very strange and worrying problem here.
I was editing on a college computer in FCE (Final Cut Express), trying to put some end credits on a short film. I created a rough edit of my end sequence visuals, and copied it to a new Sequence, entitled 'end titles', which I exported to LiveType (File > Export > Export to LiveType). When I imported it into LiveType, I remembered that it didn't import audio to LiveType (annoyingly - does anyone know why this is?), so I decided to go back and put markers on the video where key points occured in the soundtrack, so I could synchronise my titles with the music in LiveType.
In FCE, I put my markers on the video, in the new Sequence, and re-exported it to LiveType, with the same name, replacing the old file without the markers. LiveType duly removed the old background track from its timeline, but when I went to File > Place Background Movie, the new file wasn't there.
I went back to FCE, which had reported a general error, and when I clicked OK it told me that some media had gone missing - one of the files used by my end sequence, from which I had made a freeze frame. I clicked 'Reconnect', went to the project folder in the Capture Scratch folder - but the file wasn't there. FCE was now displaying the red 'Media Offline' message wherever that clip appeared. I was befuddled. In the Finder I looked in the Capture Scratch > project folder, but it was nowhere to be found. All the others were there, in numerical order, but that particular clip, number 18, was gone. I searched for it in Spotlight, with a variety of similar terms derived from its name. There was no mention of it anywhere.
Does anyone know how or why a media clip could simply disappear completely from a hard drive - or if there is any hope of getting my media back, short of re-capturing it??
    Thanks much guys,
    ~Bacchus

    Hi(Bonjour)!
As stated earlier livetype doesn'support audio. So before exporting your movie from sequence, you can put some color frame where your want to cue livetype elements. Those cues will be usefull when you will edit your livetype project but you will have to set the visibility of background to off before the saving or the "cue" version will appears in your project.
To export a movie to livetype, I put a In and OUT points to set the movie duration/content in timeline and save a quicktime movie "self contained".
I import this movie into livetype project, doing the titling and save the project.
I import the livetype project itself into FCE (not the rendered movie) and the rendering occur in FCE HD itself. You can use a "replace edit" to replace the original clip in timeline with the livetype project (who acts as a clip). You can add sound element in FCE HD timeline to fit your titling project.
Livetype is included with FCS 2 by I doupt that many editors use it as MOTION application is included and supports many more features like sound.
The "send to..." function if Final Cut Pro 6 work as intended.

  • Clips disappeared in iMovie - how to get them back?

I've had a number of clips just disappear from my events in iMovie 9.0.8.
In the Event Library, the thumbnail still shows, the sound plays, but there is no video.
When I click on "Reveal in Finder", the source files shows but only as very small (e.g. 150KB). The clips which still work are all in the many MBs when I do the same and reveal in finder. The source files themselves don't play video (nor do they have sound), whereas the source files for clips which are still ok in iMovie will play just fine in QuickTime. What's even more mystifying is that when I go back in Time Machine, the source files for the missing clips never show up as large or playable, even though I know for certain that these clips worked in the past. I have not recently done any software/system upgrades, moved or deleted files or done anything unusual that I can think of.
Any ideas? Has anyone seen this before?

Your original media files in the finder are obviously too small and since they are the same on Time Machine copies, they must have been like this for some time.  If your earliest Time machine versions are too small I don't see any way of recovering them.
Were they from a different source or imported in a different way from the clips that still work?
    Geoff.

  • Emergency - Clip Disappeared from Drive

I've just had a clip go offline in a project and it seems to have disappeared from the drive. I'm using a G5 2.5Ghz running OSX 10.4.8 and FCStudio 5.1.2. I have FCP on the A drive and use the internal B drive as a capture scratch. Everything was fine on this project until I closed it out because FCP wasn't recognizing the external monitor. When I re-started, the clip was offline. I tried to reconnect, but it was no longer in the Capture Scratch. I checked the trash (nope), used Disk Utility to verify permissions on A and verify B (no problems found), checked the other machines on our network and -- nothing. It's disappeared. I had to send the tapes back to Tokyo on this project, so I have no way to replace this. Any ideas on what happened and - more to the point - how to find this missing clip?
    G5 2.5 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I realize that you did not put the file in the trash, but I recently came across a GREAT program for data recovery:
    File Salvage

Great for recovering trash that has been emptied.

  • Part of audio clip disappeared

This morning I exported the project and noticed that a major piece of the sound was gone. I opened fcp again and saw that the audio clip was missing. I thought that maybe I accidentally deleted it right before I exported so I began to do "restore project" to find where it disappeared. I kept backing up till I got back to yesterday evening when I was editing the sound. Still no audio clip! Make sense? Last night at 8:45pm I know for a fact I was editing the audio clip, but when I restore the project to that time, the clip is still missing. How is that possible? Sounds kinda like a glitch. I had to restore all the way back to yesterday morning, which was before I had done any edits on the audio clip.
What in the world? Anybody hear of such a thing?

No. It wasn't marked as "offline". it was just gone. the clip shows up in the finder, just not on the timeline. so i could just replace it, but it was a long clip w/ lots of edits...if for nothing more, i'd just like to figure out how this can happen. and how to keep it from happening again.

  • Audio clips disappearing when sent over to Final Cut Pro

I'm having a strange problem when sending a FCP sequence over to STP as a multitrack sequence.
I have a couple of tracks (tracks 7 and 8, one stereo pair) set up with some voice-over recorded on a lapel mic, broken down into lots of different clips, but all from the same source and recorded with the same settings. For some reason, when I send the sequence over to STP, some of the clips are disappearing completely. I can't understand why this is happening, since there isn't any apparent difference between the ones which are disappearing and the ones which don't.
Anyone else had this problem? Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks for your time!

  • Off line clips; disappearing audio; and disappearing previews

My main computer has been in the shop for 2 weeks, so I have been using a laptop (dual core, 1.5 gig ram and with XP). It has a single partition with 30% free space (with most video clips stored on a removable hard drive). I have not yet downloaded the upgrade for CS3.
I have encountered 3 major problems with Cs3 on this computer that hasnt existed on my other computer. Every time I reload the project, the previews disappear from the timeline -but they are still in the preview folder; and I need to re render. The two clips that are overlaid on other clips immediately go off line; but they reappear when moving the clips away from their position and back again. Now in new problem today, some of the audio has mysteriously disappeared when previewing in real time. The audio woks, but not when real time previewing. (The audio worked fine yesterday.)
    Any suggestions?

    Updating should fix both problems.

  • Why my movie clip disappears when it reaches to last frame?

    Hi,
I have a movie clip on stage which length is 600 frames. I put a actionscript 3 code "stop();)" at the end of movie. it stops when it reaches to 600 frames but it disappears from the stage as well. Which I don't want. It should stop animating but stay with last fram which has a welcome message.
    How can I do this?

I should remain visible, so you must be overstepping the last frame or the movieclip in some way.  Maybe the timeline your animation is in does not go as far as the timeline.

  • HSV filter in Motion makes clip disappear in Final Cut Pro

I'm running Motion 1.0.1 and Final Cut Pro HD 4.5. Whenever I add the HSV filter to a video clip in Motion, import the Motion file to Final Cut and play it in the timeline, it appears that the clip is missing.
Although I get no error messages from Final Cut saying that the clip is missing, it does not show up during playback. Every other layer from Motion plays as normal while the layer with the HSV filter applied to it looks as though it is gone. I should add that the video plays normally within Motion.
I could just export the video as a Quicktime movie, but I don't want to compress it.
    Anyone had a similar issue?

That's a ridiculous answer. If there is a program designed to do something it will do it. If it's not operating properly there is a reason for it.

  • Clips disappear from Events when moving external drive to my new Laptop

Here is a weird one: I have a large external drive (software RAID) that I have all my footage on, and I am using iMovie to organize it; using a 2006 iMac 24" running Leopard 10.5.7, iMovie '09 8.0.3 (802) (the latest) - all is going reasonably well, although its getting a little slow.
But, when I move this drive onto my new Mid '09 Macbook Pro, also running 10.5.7, iMovie 8.0.3, the recently re-arranged events show up with no clips in them. Other events, that have not been recently changed, show up okay. Projects seem unaffected.
Then, if I take the drive back to the iMac, it's all normal again. Sometimes iMovie won't start at all on the MacBook.

    Bonsai wrote:
I also notice that I get the 'Choosing Full on this computer may result in degraded video playback' warning, despite being 2.8GHz vs. the 2.16 of the iMac, 512Mb video card (enabled) etc. etc.
Yes-that was a standard statement in all imovie users. However, in the latest version of imovie there isn't full vs large. There is original vs large. You should check you imovie updates.
I don't know if thats the culprit or not, the iMac does not have that warning. Does anyone else have a MacBook Pro with that warning?
no that is not the culprit

  • Project clips disappeared?

I moved clips from Event Library to Project Library. I was working on about 5 projects from 3 large tapes I had imported into events library.
as I completed an events tae I deleted it.
Now one of my projects is missing clips I had copied to it. In its place is some other clip with a little yellow traingle?
    What does this mean?

I too have YELLOW TRIANGLES in some of my movie clips inside my Project Library. The clips are still in my event library though. It appears as if it lost the link after I updated my iMovie 08 software. Is there a way to have the clips automatically relink to the files?

  • Offline clips disappear from sequence

I have two computers that I need to use to edit one project (two locations). I move the Premiere Pro CC project files between them but the source files exist in both locations.
I understand that this might cause clips to go offline because of the differing file paths. However, when I open the sequence in the second computer, the video clips that I edited to the sequence from the first computer do not appear at all - it's just blank. I expect to see a shell clip with a "media offline" message so that I can reconnect them to the new path, but I have no way of doing it because the clips are simply not there.   Yes, I'm comparing this to Final Cut Pro which would have the edits (clips) in place even if the media needs to be relocated. At least that way I know what is there and have a way of reconnecting those clips.
    Please help! Thanks.
I'm using Premiere CC on a mac.

    can anyone help?

  • Send to motion and clips disappear

I was putting together a video and had an edited multicllip sequence. I changed the multiclip sequence into a series of edited clips as I was done with the editing portion. I needed to send a few of the clips to Motion to do some effects work and it worked fine.
When I opened Final Cut Pro up the next day, my sequence only had one clip in it, the one that I sent to motion. The clip's name was renamed with the .motn suffix and all of the clips after it are now gone.
I don't think that I did anything out of the ordinary. I tried to 'restore project' and when I restore it to a save that has all the clips, it says that they are offline and has renamed the whole thing thing with the .motn suffix instead of a lot of .mov clips edited together. Is there anything I can do besides start over?
    P-Worm

When you send a bunch of clips to Motion from FCP's Timeline, you will see the behavior (i.e. motion clips being automatically put in your sequence) I'd suggest that you only send one clip at time there if they are not adjacent to each other in the FCP Timeline window.
You also should be able to go back further than you are by selecting an auto save from your Autosave Vault... there are backups made there at the rate you have set them to be saved in your User Prefs.
