Clip frame rate wrong in imovie 11

Ever since I upgraded to imovie 11 all of my video clips show a 60 in a yellow frame - both in events and projects - with the message "indicates clip frame rate (60fps) is not a multiple of the current project (25 fps)". What does this mean? As I said shows in events and projects. To stop audio jumping I detached all audio from clip but how do I fix the clip frame rate? Assume this causes "jumpy replay" problems. How do I fix and where??? Please help. Could not find solutions anywhere.

Are you speaking about this particular change of frame rates or any?
Having transfered Super 8 film that was shot at 18 fps, I have little choice but to change the rate. So far everything seems to be working out fine. For 24 fps iMovie does a pull-down of 1 1 2; for 30, 2 2 1. I'm a little confused as to whether I should use 24 or 30 fps. I'll be asking about this in a new thread.
The easiest way to change a projects framerate is to edit the project xml file.
Right click on your iMovie project file and choose "Show package contents..." (or something similar)
Edit the "Project" file (no extension) using the free Textwrangler editor or a plist capable editor.
Find the node "frameRate" and update to 30.
Really? That's a cool trick! But it sounds like it could easily mess things up. Have you tried this and with what scenarios?
or easier just create a new project

  • So close to fixing this problem with iMovie clip frame rate!

    Hi! Please help!
I'm recording short videos in iMovie using the built-in camera on my Macbook Pro. I did this yesterday and again this morning without incident. Everything worked great. Then, this afternoon, I made another video - EXACTLY the same way I'd done the other ones - and yet, this time, the clip mysteriously recorded at 18fps instead of 30fps. As a result (I think) the audio is out of synch. I have detached the audio as some have suggested in other forums, but this has not fixed the problem.
QUESTION: How can I convert the clip from 18fps to 30fps?? Is this even possible?? I'd really like to avoid re-recording, if at all possible.
I am a novice. Please explain any solutions to me as though I am a child. Thank-you!

  • If I "modify" a clips frame rate is this a permanent alteration, as in Apple Cinema Tool?

I have some footage shot at 59.97 FPS and need to interpret the frame rate at 23.98.   If I do this via the "modify, interpret footage" menu options, will this permanently alter the clip?  In Apple Cinema Tools, it permanently alters the footage.
    Thanks!
    Ed

It doesn't affect the original media.

  • Duplicate frames in clip. frame rate?

I was scrubbing through some footage in a clip in my viewer window. I noticed something interesting. As I was scrubbing, I noticed there were a few duplicate frames.
    E.g.: A B C D D E F G H H I J K, etc.. etc..
so 3 unique frames, 2 duplicate frames
    what does this mean?

Sounds like a normal standards conversion or film transfer pulldown, or media that has been slightly slow-mo'd for some reason. Usually when people have this they know why it's there.
The particular way you're seeing it probably also has something to do with your viewer being set to less than 100%, so you aren't seeing both fields (you would also see them on a native format external CRT).
But you don't say anything about what this media is, where it came from, what your clip settings are...

  • IMovie 2013 frame rate

In the previous version of iMovie, the frame rate was shown for any clips that did not match that of the main project. Is this also a feature of the updated version of iMovie? I cannot find it anywhere. Neither can I find the default frame rate of new iMovie projects. Can anyone help?

    Hello.
I have the same problem and i thought the problem was on my Leopard. But after read many post i conclude that is not. It looks like an iLife issue that must be fixed. I tryed an workaroud using iMovie HD, instead iMovie'08, to share project to iDVD and the video result was excelent, but with a horrible delay between audio and video. I'm working with a HD 1080 video. Still not solved the problem and seeking a solution. Will Apple fix it?

  • IMovie - "Convert Entire Clip" reduced clip's frame rate

    Hi,
I was making a video using iMovie.
I wanted to speed up or slow down some clips, so I clicked the "Convert the Entire Clip" button.
After the clips were converted, I noticed that the frame rate of my clips was reduced. It looked lagging in most part of the clips. The original format of the clips is mp4, iMovie converted them to .mov format
Is there a setting to improve/maintain the frame rate during the conversion?
    Thanks.

Thanks to all who have responded,
I had planned to create short movie clips for emailing but wanted something quick and easy to do so.
It would be great if I could from iMovie select a clip and share to QT then email the results but it seems that each time I will have to ‘work’ on the clip to prepare it for sharing. I don’t want to go to that much trouble each time so I doubt I will use this means.
I don’t understand why it is not easy to do so. Each time I try to open a QT clip in WMP it says it can’t use the file. I had hoped it would convert the movie to MPV or better if QT would convert to something other than files most PC’s won’t open. There are now four PC users that can’t open the file and one that can. 1 out of 5 is not too impressive.
By the way, I don’t know what Sorenson is.
I create numerous iMovies but never use QT even though I keep buying Pro each system upgrade just in case.
Is there a quicker solution to sharing by email?

  • Is this a bug?: copied movie clip has wrong frame rate and ruins the main movie's sync

    Hello,
I am trying to copy a movieclip with a frame rate of 30 frames per second to a movie that has a frame rate of 30 frames per second. Both movies are actionscript 3 movies. When I do this, my copied movie clip's frame rate reverts to 12 frames per second and all my audio synched animation is trashed. Then when I change it back manually to 30 frames per second it makes my main movie's stage animation go crazy at full possible speed and the audio is all out of sync. I have not set export for sharing or action script on this movie clip. I've tried other movie clips that are 30 frames per second and it is all crazy!
Is this a bug? What can I do? I've got 100s of movie clips I need to make. I can't keep remaking them just because flash has a screw loose. I'll go crazy!

Oh sorry I goofed! My main time line is 12 fps! I can't belive I didn't see this before.

  • Relink project clips with different frame rate

Somehow the clips in my project sequence ended up with a different frame rate (25) than the original media files (23.95), and they are no longer linked -- maybe this happened during import from iMovie.  When I try to relink project files to source media, I get an error message saying they cannot be relinked because they have a different frame rate.  I changed the sequence framerate to 23.95 (by creating a new project with 23.95 as the frame rate, then copying and pasting the other timeline into it), but all the clips remain at 25, so the problem remains.
How can I change the clip properties to frame rate 23.95 so I can link to the original media?
    Thanks.

The media got unlinked importing the project and events from iMovie to Final Cut.
I've attached screen shots with all the specs.

  • How can I change the frame rate of a project in imovie 10?

My problem is: I made a gopro movie with a frame rate of 50 fps. I imported it to imovie. So far so good.
Scrubbing over the clip i found one single frame which looked amazing. So I draged some seconds of that clip into the timeline (the project if you will).
The goal was to make a freeze frame out of this "spezial" frame.
Unfortunately I could not find this frame in the timeline any more - it's gone.
I think imovie dropped half of the frames to fit the clip into the projekt, which I assume is using 24-25fps.
The only solution I found is to decrease the speed of the clip to let's say 50%.
But is there a better way?
Can I change the frame rate of the projekt somehow? I think it was possible in imovie 11.
    many thanks

    (from austria)

iMovie 10 won't share at 50 fps and so for 25 fps output probably drops every other frame.  This is different from Imovie 9 which could handle 50 fps.  However, if you do 50% speed it will use all the available frames so that is indeed the way to find the frame you want.  After you have made a freeze frame I think you can switch the clip back to normal speed.  I am not aware of a better way in iMovie 10  By the way there is also no facility to export a still of a frame in iMovie.
As a GoPro user I think FCP 10.1 would be the best choice.

  • Can I import clips using a frame rate of 60 or higher?

I have a sony cx260v that allows me to record in a rate of 60 fps. However when I attempt to upload the footage taken in this frame rate to iMovie 11 9.0.4 it shows as a blocked clip and does not allow me to upload.
    Any ideas?

Yes, you can re-import them, but it's not that straightforward, and you loose some quality in the process. Search for "MPEG Streamclip" or "DVD camcorder" in this forum, and you will find lots of answers.
Alternatively, you can make data DVDs with your DV clips. Simply pop in an empty DVD, and drap the DV clips you want to export into the burn folder. A normal DVD can hold about 20 minutes of DV clips, a dual layer DVD twice as much.

  • I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11.  Each time that I adjust these times, the app does not accept the change, and automatically enters its own time. Am I doing something wrong?

I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11.  Each time that I adjust these times, the application does not accept the change, and instead automatically enters its own time. Is there a work around this? Or am I doing something wrong? Please Help!
    Thank you,
    lagrl

Have you tried turning off automatic transitions ? Choose file - project properties and follow the dialogue box to change duration with a slider.  iMovie also doesn't allow a transition to be more than 50% duration of the clip its attached to. In other words if the clip is 4 seconds the transition cannot be more than 2 seconds and remember that relates to the first clip as the following clip (right side) is pulled back to overlay it.
Does this help.  Perhaps you already know this ?

  • Editing clips and preserving frame rate

Occassionally I take a rather long video and a significant portion of it has no value to the final project.  I am aware there is a way to only import parts of the clip directly from the computer, but as I understand it the file will end up on my internal hard drive.  I would prefer to keep all of my clips on an external drive.
Question one: Is there a way to do that?
I have some larger video files that are on my external drive and I would only like to import part of them. I want to preserve the frame rate at 60 or 120fps so I can get good slow motion when I edit the video in my project. I tried to edit the file in FCPX and then export it, but I can only find a way to export it at 30fps.  I was hoping to export and archive those files for future projects and then delete the larger video files.
Question two:  Is there a way I can edit clips that were shot at 60 or 120 fps so I can then re-import them into FCPX for future use?
Not sure if compressor can help me with any of this.  Any help would be appreciated!

    1.  You understand wrongly. The imported media goes to whichever drive you designate. The file exports in whatever frame rate the project is. If you're trying to create slomo with your 60p media you edit in a 30p project. That's what you export. You can edit in a 60p project but that would defeat the purpose of bring able to confirm the video for slomo.
    2.  You might be able to edit in the QuickTine player to trim a shot.

  • Problems with Xml for mixed frame rate clips in 23.98 sequence

When an XML from an fcpx sequence which has mixed frame rate clips in 23.98 timeline is put through X2Pro the resulting AAF is incorrect as the non 23.98 clips are out of sync and have the wrong frame conversion applied. The same thing happens with the XML through Xto7 - the fcpxml appears not to be handling the frame rate conversion correctly in the XML process.
Anyone else had this or know of a workaround ( other than converting all media to 23.98 before editing obviously!)

What happened to us is that the DP shot all the footage in 59.94 mode. Some at 60p, and some at 24p WITHOUT pulldown. We tried capturing it again as 24p at 23.98 but it wouldn't come in that way. So we had to live with it at 59.94. And yes, we couldn't slip it on the timeline, we had to match back to the master clip and choose different in points until it came in right.
It was a horrible mess and we won't be hiring that DP again. I hope that re-capturing does it for you, it didn't for us.
    Good Luck.

  • Adjust frame rate in iMovie?

Have some video made on a Canon G9 digital rangefinder camera that was shot in a stop freeze frame mode instead of reg video. Is there a way to slow down the frame rate in iMovie. This clip is mixed with a bunch of still photos and other video clips shot in normal mode, and it looks a bit too jumpy.
    Thx

    No.
iM offers only standard conform framerates (25/29.97), and does not offer any effects as slow-mo
