Clip info lost on import

I'm shooting XDCAM EX 720p50 footage with EX1R.
I've been trimming the inevitable rubbish from the beginning and end of my clips as well as adding notes and changing the Index Picture with Sony Clip Browser but when I import to FCP with Log and Transfer, there are no notes and even the index thumbnail is lost.
Am I missing something?
If I can't import this data, what's the point of doing it with Clip Browser?

what's the point of doing it with Clip Browser?
Indeed.

  • Clip dates lost on import from iMovieHD to iMovie09

So I have tons of old video I'm finally going to edit with iMovie09. Some of this is on tape, and some is on the hard drive as iMovieHD projects. Both types imported into iMovie09. The only difference was that the clips from video kept the time/date info for the clips, while the imports from iMovieHD didn't have the correct data. Every date for example has an August 30th, date regardless of when it was shot. This date is when I imported the video in the to iMovieHD. Now if I go into iMovie HD and select a clip and view it's info, it does show the correct date of the individual clip.
Any thoughts on this. I wouldn't care about this except that I'm mixing in other video in the same date range, and I want the events sorted by dates.

I can right click a clip in iMovie HD to see that date, then I go to iMovie 09, and chose "File > Adjust Clip Date and Time" and change the date. Now in my case I didn't care about exact time, but just date. So I took a number of clips that had the same shoot date, and adjusted them all at once. As it happens I had two computers, which made things easier so I could have the same clips open in iMovie HD on one, and iMovie 09 on another. This made it easy, but same thing could have been done with one computer, but would just need to toggle back and forth between apps.

  • Lightroom 4.4 crashed on Windows 7 Laptop, lost catalog info, won't import half my images.

Lightroom 4.4 crashed on Windows 7 Laptop today, lost catalog info, won't import half my images.
Not only is LR messed up, it deleted my day's shooting. Can't believe that.
Now it won't import (i.e. re-import) half my files.
Imported half, but had errors importing rest.
    Corrupt catalog?
When I try to import the folders, it recognizes that they are in the catalog (I have "don't import duplicates" turned on).
After running through all the folders, it says, "Nothing to Import."
    Any help?
    Best,
    Peter

    Thanks dj_paige.
I installed a plugin, coincidence makes me thinks this might have cause a LR4.4 crash.
After rebooting my windows 7 laptop, LR had lost record of half my directories on the external drive, as seen in Library Module.
In Windows Explorer, the folders and images are still there.
I tried recovering the lost folder references in LR by doing an import on the external hard drive again.
It took about a half hour to run.
There was a report screen at the end of the process that said that LR was unable to import something like 1500 images.
I did not save the report screen. Maybe it is part of a log file somewhere to give you what it exactly said?
I do not profess to understand how catalogues work under the covers.
I only use one catalog at this point.
My guess is at this point I should de-commission the catalog (whatever it takes to do that - delete it, etc.) and just do a new, fresh import on my images.
I don't feel I lose anthing this way - I can't see where I would lose anything important. About 5-10% of the RAW images were processed and exported to jpg, just for web use for casual viewing. The jpg's are all still on the external hard drive.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Peter

  • I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

  • Accurate Clip Info?

    Hello-
In the attached image, I've clicked on the info tab while having a REDcode clip selected in the timeline.
My question is, why is the info always wrong about the clip I have selected?! In this case we shot a 2K clip at 240fps. The clip has not been transcoded either before or after import. The panel does show 240 under Shooting Rate, but a lot of the other info is wrong, including frame size. This happens not just with Red clips, but if I import a ProRes clip, the info panel might say its H.264?
Maybe there is an obvioius explanation for this I am missing??
    Thanks for any help.

I too have inaccurate information in the clip info window of the inspector.  I had the files optimized on import, so I expected the codec in clip info to be ProRes 422.  Instead it says H264.  When I open the package contents of the library in the finder, the ProRes files are there, but it seems FCP is not using them.  This happens with both a Sony Handycam and a Canon DSLR (70D).
Also, the rendering time for the anti-noise filter from neat video seems excessive (about 2 days for a 90 min video clip), which I assume is because the clip is H264.  Maybe it's because of my underpowered iMac?  It's a 3.06 GHz intel core 2 duo, getting close to 5 years old now.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

You did not steal my thunder. You asked for advice, I provided advice. I assumed that since you nor the "support team" could find your files that you did not have any backup. You should have told us you do regular backups. We have no way to know otherwise unless you tell us.

With the new update iTunes lost my important play lists. Anyone else?

If you have a backup on iCloud or iTunes you would not have lost all your data, the update went fine on my phone and my wifes and many others. On forums you dont see the millions of users saying it went well, just the few with issues. If you had no backup thats not Apples fault, thats yours. The same will happen whatever platform you go to if you dont back your data up.

  • Clip info on time line

Is there a way to turn off or edit the clip info (clip name) in the timeline? Can't find it in the manual.

Is there a way to turn off or edit the clip info (clip name) in the timeline? Can't find it in the manual.
Indeed there is a way to toggle Video Clip names as well as Audio Clip names on the timeline.
At the bottom left corner, between the track height selector and the timeline zoom control, is a little button with a right-pointing triangle, click that and you'll see the following popup menu:
    http://www.grabup.com/uploads/3549e4eb587abf8da51cd65687122e04.png
The 2 items you want to uncheck are "Show Video Clip Names" and "Show Audio Clip Names".
However, there is no way to edit clip information directly on the timeline.

  • Part of path lost when importing autogenerated files

Hope someone can help as can't find anything on the forum about this.
Have two Framemaker 8 books, one of which contains all the files for a future publication, including LOT, LOF and IX.  This is the full publication but most of it is still heavily in draft.  The second book represents the first release of the publication and has only a small subset of agreed content.  The idea is that the publication will grow in time.
The second book is in a subdirectory below the directory containing the first book and the full set of files.  It has its own LOT,LOF and IX.  It also links up to a few of the files above, the ones that are in the first release. The LOT, LOF and IX contain contain references only to these few content files. Have done it this way rather than put everything in one directory, as there will be a number of subsets, with multiple PDFs produced for review from each before the finalised PDF containing the current content to be released at any one time, and don't want them all in the same directory with the management problems that would introduce, and risk of people selecting the wrong version of a LOT, LOF etc. The content files with the actual text in are not duplicated in this subdirectory; the book just links to them in the directory above itself.
All was well on one PC but needed to work on a second also. This second one has a different directory structure and it isn't possible to change it because of the different policies in place.  So copied the main directory and the other subdirectory beneath to the new PC.  All appeared OK; the lower level book found the files above etc.
To clarify the structure on the second PC is this:
\dir0\dir1\dir2\Content directory - place where the first book plus the preface, glossary/index and the other files in the draft book - the main body
..dir0\dir1\dir2\Content directory\dirA - place where the second book and LOT, LOF, IX are for the book to be published first (the .. represents some other directories from the root)
(On the first PC, it was \dir0\dir1\Content directory\ and dir0\dir1\Content directory\dir A - and this is the shorter path from the root)
When trying to generate the PDF on the second realised something had gone wrong and then found that the problem began in FMkr. The symptom is this:
The LOT, LOF and IX autogenerated files are fine within the book, their links can be clicked and they go to the source files (in the directory above).  BUT these files aren't part of the actual publication.  The LOT and LOF are embedded in a Preface (one of the files in level above) and the IX is embedded in a Glossary and Index file (ditto). When these are imported into the Preface or Glossary as appropriate, whether by reference or by actually including the file, the result is the same - the links become non clickable and an error is saying that the file can't be found. The path is partly truncated - it excludes the directory where the files actually are.
So for a link to the Introduction.fm file, FMkr says it is looking for it as ..dir0\dir1\dir2\Introduction.fm and not ..dir0\dir1\dir2\Content directory\Introduction.fm where it actually is.
This occurs even if the whole structure is copied elsewhere to a place higher in the hierarchy. It isn't possible to reproduce the structure on the first PC because of the configuration of the second PC.  Have tried taking the LOT etc. out of the second book then regenerating them from scratch - they are fine, the links in them are fine, but when imported into the other files, the links miss out the directory which actually holds the source files where the links point to. Must emphasise this did not happen on the first PC.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks Sheila, have now overcome my problem with editing the post (duh!)
Hope the below is clear enough as cannot send an actual screen shot. Have discovered that the number of directories above in path is a red herring because the problem now happens back on the original pc when the book and files are copied back to it.
Have tried creating a test book with only the index, glossary/index and one content file linked from directory above (i.e. test book at dir c level) and it is OK in the autogenerated index but then does the same truncation when the index is imported into glossary/index, i.e. looks for the source file in dir A.  If the source file is copied into the test book directory, the file removed from book and then the local copy added back in and the book updated/import redone, the links work. so it will find it if the source files are in the same directory.  However, this always worked before with lots of test runs and a few real reviews too.
Subject: FrameMaker General Discussion Part of path lost when importing autogenerated files
It would be really helpful if you might do a screenshot  of the File Manager hierarchy of folders and insert them into your posting, maybe use callouts to annotate the various significant levels -- a visual would really, really make it much easier to interpret what you're describing.
    >
Sorry, not coming out very clear compared to viewed on PC. Directories are A, B, C - Dir A caption "The Directory above the content directory. Links in the subset book in Directory C look in here after they are imported into other files in the subset book"
Directory B says "Directory B, the content directory, with introduction, glossary/index and other content files, plus main book, main index, main LOT, LOF. Some of the content files in here are also linked to from the subset book in Directory C"
Directory C says "Directory C containing the subset book with its own index, LOT, LOF, plus links to introduction, glossary/index and a couple of other files in Directory B.  The links to files in Dir B work in the autogenerated LOT, LOF etc, but not when imported into content files (linked files in directory B) although this used to work. They now look for the content files in Directory A instead"
    Hope that makes it clearer.

I have a similar situation.  In upgrading from Elements 7 to 11 all my keyword tags are lost; both in the keyword panel and the tags on each of  my imported pictures.  I didn't install the Elements 11 I had a tech do it when I took my computer in for other issues, so I'm not sure of any of the specific steps taken when this was done.  Any way to get these back short of "tagging" each picture again?

  • I lost some important msgs on my iphone.

i lost some important msgs on my iphone. they are not on the cloud. they didn't get backed up. would my provider - at&t have them?

if you backed up your phone on the computer, or icloud before messages disappeared. you can restore from
that back up. You can check last time of icloud back up by going to settings - icloud- storage and back up- manage storage. You can check back up on the computer, by going to itunes preferences, click Devices tab.
you will see list of your back ups with dates. Bear in mind if you do decide to restore, your phone will get back in time to the back up time. Messages and everything between then and now will be lost. Good luck.

Does someone know when our movie project and finally our iDVD project is done, can we erase the clip that we had imported in iMovie without danger?  Or we have to keep the clip in iMovie until the DVD are burn?

    Hi
Most processes in Non destructive Video editing is based on that the raw-material is safe and intact. So by trashing it most things can or will go wrong.
So e.g. in iMovie project - there is NO Movie - just a small text document refering to Your raw-material, audio files and photos (within or not in iPhoto Library) on how they are to act together to Play Your Movie.
And by changing any of them the Movie project will be affected or destroyed.
reg. iDVD there is also a link back to iMovie - Most famous to set of the iDVD BUG !
To do that - one starts a new iDVD project and add movies etc. Then find something i one movie in need to be adjusted. Closing iDVD and returning to iMovie and doing this. Then when back to iDVD it will notice and ask You to Up-date or Cancel. Neither works. The iDVD project is harmed. All Chapters now point to Chapter One and more strange things happens.
the medicine I use - I start a brand new iDVD Project and re-do it and hopefully not fine any more to be fixed in the movie.
This indicates the strong link inbetween iDVD and iMovie and I would not touch anything in iMovie till DVD is Burned and Ready AND Plays Well !
    Yours Bengt W

  • Clip name does not import with video file

I have a raw AVCHD file shot on a Sony FS-700. I imported all ~180 clips and moved them from the FCP X folder into a folder on my raid drive for use in multiple projects. The clip names at import are Clip #1, Clip #1, etc. etc. I then rename them in my finder window in their new location. The clips look great and playback great through Quick View and Quicktime. However, I run into a problem when I import them from their new location into a new event. The clip which is named 'FCP X Import' will import and be labeled 'Clip #89'.
I would like to remain naming them in Finder if at all possible. This might be a Yosemite error or just my workflow. Workflow is: I edit directly after the event with imported media from the raw file and use the 'Clip #89' first then move, then rename to 'FCP X Import', then reuse for other features (which is where the problem occurs).
Note: Clips do bring in Finder tags. For example, if I label it red the clip will retain that tag in FCP X
    Thanks.

It would be quite helpful to know what format the footage is, what camera it came from.
First thing to try is this, assuming AVCHD or similar footage type from SD card -
Copy ENTIRE card contents to hard drive, not just video clips. In Premiere, Import using the "Media Browser". See if that helps
