Clip motion properties disappeared / uneditable?

Hi-
This has happened several times and I'm not sure what's causing it. Double-clicking on a clip to load it into the viewer, and the motion tab is missing editable elements -- I can see keyframes up top, but no values. Since a picture is worth a thousand support posts, here's a quick grab of what I'm seeing:
http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/1645/properties.jpg
Any idea what's causing this?
Thank you!

Thanks for the speedy reply on this. However, no dice -- same issue once prefs are cleared and machine is rebooted. Frankly, I suspected as much. This issue only affects specific clips, everything else in FCP looks and behaves as normal.
< ... hold on - edit ... >
Solved! Argh, this was a simple one. Closing and re-opening the disclosure triangle fixes it. For anyone else having this problem, here's what that looks like:

For what it's worth, the last thing I remember doing before this happened was vertically expanding the lanes in the scale and rotation properties to do more precise editing. Bug?

  • Multiclip Edit Needing to Modify Motion Properties of One Clip

    Hi all,
I'm working on a multiclip 3 camera edit. One of cameras had a black bar along the left side of the screen the entire time. To overcome this problem, I have to zoom to 104%. Is there a way to make this modification hold when using multiclip, or do I have to go through and modify the motion tab every time I use that angle?
    Thanks,
    Blue

Finish your cut first. Right-click or ctrl-click one of your clips with the motion properties adjusted. Then hit cmd+f in your timeline to find all clips matching that specific angle you want to zoom. Paste the attributes of that one clip onto all the other clips with the same angle number.

  • Swapping videos and maintaing motion properties?

I have an existing project with videos that are moving around screen and scaling up-and-down. I would like to swap a new video for some of the ones that are on the Canvas and maintain the same motion properties that were already applied to the current videos.
Is this possible? If so how? Using FCP 6
    Thanks!

Ah, yes, thanks for that reminder, tom. IIRC, one must copy the clip from the Browser before pasting content.
Still, it's a weird kluge compared to After Effects (and possibly Premiere, which I've not used) where one simply option-drags and drops and all filters, settings, and meticulously crafted keyframes remain untouched.

  • I want to buy FCPX but I'd like to know if my FCP studio will stay in my computer                            does not disappear from my computer. Like it happened when I bought Motion 5. Motion 4 disappeared

I would like to know why Motion 4 disappeared from my system when I bought Motion 5. I want to buy FCPX and I don't know if m going to happen the same with my FCP 7 and Compressor 4. Please let me know if I can have both applications in my system.
    Thank you

The answer is definitely – you can have them on the same system.
Most easily done when FCS apps are already installed when the new generations of FCP, Motion, etc are downloaded from the App Store. The download and install process puts the FCS apps in a folder to isolate them…but they're still useable. Only restriction is you can't have both open at the same time.
So look for a FCS folder in Applications,

  • Audio clip names have disappeared

    Hi,
I've just opened a project & all of the audio clip names have disappeared. I've tried deleting the waveform cache; deleting the preferences using FCP rescue; re-booting & zapping the P-Ram; and even tried opening up earlier auto-save versions of the project.
It only seems to apply to this project; I've tried opening other projects and they're fine.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

Neil Sinclair - you're the man!!!
thanks for that - this one had me completely tricked. I don't know how that selection got flicked over (I hadn't come anywhere close to touching it - I haven't opened that menu in a little while).
    So, thank you very much!
    Cheers

  • Why are my clip marker comments disappearing?

I'm coming from Final Cut Pro, so part of my problem might be my workflow, but: Why are my clip marker comments disappearing? I log a lot of interviews and usually log the subject's responses in clip markers, but my comments are disappearing the second I select a different clip! Any reason why this might be? They stick around when I do sequence comments, but they disappear when I add comments to my clip markers when viewing in the source window. Thanks!

Jim, that's encouraging to hear. Unfortunately, I'm trying to run it on a mac (Lion). Are you finding that most complaints are coming from people running it on macs?
Believe me, I want to get behing Adobe, but I've restarted more than one project in Avid after finding Premiere super glitchy and inconsistent in it's behaviour.

  • Encore CS3 motion menu disappear

I have a problem with motion menu. If I choose motion menu from Encore Library and put together with my videos, all is function OK. But if I put audio (MP3) to menu background, after 10 second motion menu disappears and remains buttons and background music. I have installed all patches. My system is Windows Vista Home Edition with patches applied.
    Where is a problem ?
Thank you for your answers ....

    >prefer to play all music not only 12 second
There are things that are not allowed according to the DVD specification (such as having one audio continue play when you click a menu) so I will GUESS this is one of those... you simply must make all parts fit to the same parameter (you can't pour 10 pounds of flour into a 5 pound bag)

  • Masked pre comp of clip not showing clip motion within the mask please help

    Hi there,
I'm trying to create a phenakistoscope Phenakistoscope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia out of a motion picture of a dancer.
I've transformed the clip of the dancer and precomposed it and then masked and animated the rotation of the pre comp in a new composition.  I then duplicated the now animated pre comp 20 times offsetting each one, a frame later than the last to create the wheel effect with trailing frames.
The animation of the mask and offset is working fine, however the footage in the clip is not playing in the masked composition.
please help, here is the project file. Dropbox - caropheankistope.aep

I'm replying to your question on my phone so I can't look at your project but I did look at your video.
Here is what I would do to troubleshoot the project. First run a RAM preview of the pre-composed and masked wedge comp. If that plays back correctly then everything else should work unless you have applied some kind of time effect to the duplicated layers. If that doesn't work then show us a screenshot of that pre-comp with all of the properties of the movie layer revealed (Press that u key twice).
If you have not sorted this out by the time I get back the office I will try and take a look at your project.

  • When i apply slow effect to a clip the visual disappears

when i apply the slow motion effect the image disappears, it is just a black clip. it will preview appropriately, but will not play back as a slowed down clip

    Hi ayven:
    Welcome to discussions!
Are you using an external drive?
Is it's format Mac OS Extended? To find that out, connect the external drive and then launch Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities). You'll see your external drive in Disk Utility's side bar.
Select it and then click the Erase tab at the top. From the Volume Format menu select Mac OS Extended-Journaled and then click the oval Erase button at the lower right.
That's about it, except you should make a backup copy of your files because this will erase the drive!

  • Movie Clip / motion guide

:music; I'd like to say if Action Script would be used in a
movie clip lied on a motion guide?
e.g. : Slowing down a movie clip during the elapsed whole
    time onto the motion guide. When I used code like mclip_x -= 50;
It didn't affect the speed of the clip. The tool in the
properties dialog box didn't match with my will.
    Thanks for your support.

No. But you can attach an empty movie clip to a motion guide
    by hand,
then attach your Library asset to the empty clip.

  • Video clip images have disappeared in the timeline

Hi - I was working away on an event in FCPX when I noticed that the timeline no longer showed any of the clip images - just the sound waveforms.  The video is visible on the canvas, and can be edited, but there is just a segmented blue nothing where the clip images used to be.  This is a new one - anyone experienced this before, or have an idea what's causing it?
    Thanks!

Thank you very much, Tom, for your very clear reply!  It worked using the Option-Command reset of preferences.  Interestingly, when I clicked on Close to shut down FCPX, this is what popped up. I have no idea what "background tasks" were being undertaken.  Although the app disappeared from the screen, it remained live in the dock and had to be force quit.  Do you think it's possible that some not-deliberately-invoked process removed the clip images, and if so, what it might be?  I can trip on a bare floor, but don't usually send an app off accidentally!

  • How to edit the starting time for clips in properties?

    Hello there ,
I’m testing the CS5 Audition right now and find it great except for one thing:
In the properties for each clip there is a starting time. But it just can’t be edited!
I can change the starting time of the whole session – yes.
But not the ones of the individual clips. Only by moving them around and that is not very precise.
Is there a way to edit this starting times for the clips by typing in numbers?
    Thank you :).

Do I have to save any time I make a change?
As far as I'm aware, you've always had to save changes to metadata to make them permanent!
    One more please:
Can't I group Clips and move them together anymore?
    One more thing please:
Many people say that CS5 is worse than 3.
Why are all those people bothered?
No you can't group clips in CS5.5. And the reason that a lot of people are bothered is - because you can't group clips in CS5.5.
There are a few other reasons cited too, but I think that the lack of clip grouping may be at the top of the list, judging from the number of comments about it. If you look around the forum you will find a lot of discussion about this.

  • Object with Motion Path Disappears On Layers

I have placed an image on the stage that I want to move from one object to another. (In this case, a "cookie" to move from a website image to a computer image.)
I have placed the cookie image on top layer, and on top of the web site image.
I have set up a motion path to move the cookie to the computer.
When I preview, the cookie image literally disappears, in a "wipe" motion.
I moved the cookie image to a plain area on the stage, and it moved just fine. It disappears only when layered with the other images, even though it is the top layer.  There is no "white space" that I should be dealing with on any of the images. The backgrounds are transparent.
    Any ideas?

Here's a screenshot with the motion path:
And here's a screenshot from preview. I left the background on here, and it actually looks like the square of the image is moving along the path, but the image itself moves out of the boundaries of the picture to the left (it's a .jpg file). That makes absolutely no sense.  This image has been resized (original is larger than the stage), but not cropped.  I have deleted and re-added this image several times.

  • Changing duration after applying motion properties?

I have a series of still images that I applied scaling and motion to and I now want to change their duration so I right-click, choose Speed/Duration and change the timecode for the duration to make the still image take less time on screen. After doing this the scaling and motion no longer work. Is there a way to change still image duration after applying scaling and motion to them?
    Thanks.

Looking for some answers (Oh I realise this thread is 1 year old!) about clips duration I bumped into this one. I wonder if part of the above problem had something to do with pictures coming from different cameras - I seemed to notice that with the same preference choice some clips seem to interpret the duration differently? Probably when the aspect ratio is different from one camera to another, or if one has changed his or her aspect ratio on that camera in a shooting session.
I do remember that to change the duration default via preference it has to be done before importing photos in the project windows or has someone pointed out, re import them after changing the default.,
I also thought after changing the duration of clips that had key frame for various functions, the new duration may have excluded those key frames because the shortening had truncated the part where the end key frames were,  thus making them void.
(I'm a little surprised to be in this thread as I had written in the "question" field "still images duration" and was in another thread with 5 entries, the last one from Anne Benz with a shot of a time line, also from Oct 2012! But some how when I tried to add to it, I could not and found for unknown reason I was not signed on! But now I come back signed on with the same question I'm in the different thread?)
Perhaps the following may be interesting and helpful for some. Changing duration of still in the time line can be quite useful when one needs to match the Video sequence with its added Audio.   As you have a display of stills with transitions, animation etc. and you add some music to it. If they don't quite finish at the desire point. (usually with the end of the music, song). You can fine tune it (like within a few seconds) by shortening or lengthening the clip, clips duration. And if it's ok with what  you have you can select the whole (video)  time line  and after deciding how much is the difference between your portion of music and your clips apply that time. Sometimes using only a few clips is enough other times the whole of it works better.  I find it's ok only for a few seconds though as there are a couple of problem with this, The key frames may need to be readjusted and or even be out of action (as explained earlier) In that case it's probably better to have the video clips on a sequence of their own then add the music on a new sequence and match them this way on the same time line.
PS: Titles and anything relying in proper timing placement above this video display timeline needs to be checked, perhaps included or adjusted with clip or clips duration change.
I really was looking at ways of creating a sequence with a variety of animations that I could re used for other project with the "Copy" then "Paste Attributes" in the hope it would be quicker than going back to the "Contor Effect" function all the time. I remember using (MS Movie Maker) and it had a few icons for this purpose that one would apply for a clip. It was rigid but quite effective. This way even if I needed to adjust the key frames, they would already be in place. (I already use this technic with similar pics, I copy one animation I like and "paste attributes to  a bunch of pics, sometimes reverse the key frames, "copy" then select alternate pics from the previous selection and paste the new attributes to them... May be not everyone's taste!
So if I could import such a sequence in my Projects and place it on Video 2  with each pic. labelled with its appropriate animation and obviously key-framed accordingly. (I would have created a photo folder and renamed each of its photos with one of the desired labels, ie Pan down, Pan left, Zoom in, Rotate %,  etc) - But I thought I hit a snag with the duration....
I have actually gave this a quick try and it seems to have some value. I just found out that it's worthwhile to get the shortest but meaningful labeling for this "templates" in order to identify them easily in their smallest view (time line zoomed out) ie Pan Left  = PL, PR, PU, Zi, Zo etc.

  • In Photoshop CC (2014), Hue/Saturation adjustment layer properties disappear

I am running Photoshop CC (2014) under Windows 7 Professional.  The program is up to date.
Today, while editing an 8-bit image, I added a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.  Then, in the properties panel for this layer, with the on-image adjustment tool selected, I clicked a color in the image to get a range of colors whose saturation I wanted to adjust.  Next, using the saturation slider in the properties panel, I increased the saturation of this range of colors. Finally, I closed the properties panel by clicking on the double arrow in the upper right corner.
Later, I wanted to modify this adjustment layer.  I double-clicked on the layer thumbnail to reopen the properties panel, and found that, although the previous increase in saturation was still operating, the saturation slider was back at its default position, and the range of colors that I had previously established was gone.  Thus, I could not make further adjustments to this range of colors.
I then did some further experimentation:  I deleted the first Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, and created a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. I then again established a range of colors as above, again increased the saturation of these colors, and then again closed the properties panel by clicking on the double arrow in the upper right corner.  This time, however, when I wanted to try to modify this adjustment layer, instead of double-clicking on the layer thumbnail to reopen the properties panel, I right-clicked on the layer and then clicked on "Edit adjustment..."  This opened the properties panel, which, this time, correctly showed my original adjustments -- the saturation slider showed the positive adjustment that I had previously made, and the range of colors established earlier was still shown. But then, on a hunch, I added a Curves adjustment layer above the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.  Now, when I again opened the properties panel of the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer (by right-clicking on the layer and then clicking on "Edit adjustment..."), my previous settings were gone -- the saturation slider was at its default position and the range of colors was gone!  (But the increase in saturation was still operating.)
Thus, it appears that there is a bug in the functioning of the properties panel of the Hue/Saturation layer: In short, once you have added a further adjustment layer, you can't then go back and make changes to the properties of the Hue/Saturation layer.  I would be interested to hear if others have noticed this.  Also, is Adobe planning to address this?

OK, I am not entirely sure I have understood your post completely, but when you edit a colour range with a Hue/Sat layer, and click off and back on again, it will default to showing the RGB values, which you may not have made any adjustment to.  If you pick the previous colour from the image, or a similar colour, it _will_ show you the adjustments.  So long as your picked colour is contained within the range of the previous adjustment.
Ypu could also use the RGB drop down (actually they call it Master nowadays), and chose the colour that is closest to your previously picked colour.  I expect you are away that you can edit the colour range being operated on by dragging the four sliders on the two colour bars at the bottom of the Properties panel.
Does that make sense, or am I going in the wrong direction?
