Clip name browser

Is there a way to set the clip name for Canon mpeg files to their actual name/clip number (e.g. AA1224) in the Browser instead of date created.
As foe my imported dslr mov's are showing the clipname. e.g. DSC_6783 as I like it.
Thanks in advanced.

FCP and Mac are very new to me. Used to Window and Premiere Pro.
I do not change the name of the clips of the card.
Must be doing something wrong. Select clips in libary. go to inspector, set it to info, then drop downmenu: greyed out.
If i select just one clip nothing happens in the inspector.
I dont like working with clips that all start with clip date followed by clip time.
I am use to windows way. AA0001, AA002 etc.
By Canon mpeg files I mean mpeg-2 in a mxf container.
Should I use Proress instead. I am on a imac 2.95 SSD+1 tb internal disk and 16 gig of ram.
I am still figuring out how the mac does its file managment.
Have no idea how to generate proress and then do I substitute proress for the Canon files on export?
So many questions. I did follow a course on Lynda.com. But alas it does not tell you everything.
Thanks

  • Changing Clip Name

I understand that the best time to name a clip is when capturing. And changing a clip name will pose a problem when reconnecting media.
However, if the "clip name" is changed via "item properties" in the browser AND the "QT file" in the "Capture Scratch file" is changed at the finder level (or if Modify/Rename/File to Match Clip is used) is the above problem averted? Or is it more complex than that?
Within a simple single project, if changing the clip name is OK using "Modify/Rename/File to Match Clip" why is changing a clip name considered so taboo?

Where it's taboo is in collaborative projects (meaning you have to merge cuts with other editors, but using the same media) as well as projects that are offline/online, since a key piece of tracking data (especially with tapeless workflows) is the clip name.
I'd consider most situations outside of those mentioned to be 'simple projects,' and thus hardly scenarios where changing clip names is taboo.

  • Clip name in Event vs Timeline

I am getting organized, and changed the names of the clips in the Event Browser after making the Projects.
Is there any way to change the name of the clips in the Timeline to reflect the updated clip names in the Browser?
    Thanks,
    Sonny

As 10.0.3 has a manual relink feature - if you rename a browser clip I suggest you keep the original file number as part of the name, that way if it ever goes offline and won't relink automatically for any reason (and after over 20 years of using NLEs believe me it will happen sometime) you can navigate to the original media.

  • Modify Clip name to Match Clip ...

Reading in Wolsky's book and in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7648597) that there are buttons in the button list that allow you to modify the clip name to match the file name and vice versa. However, I've looked and "searched" in the button list and cannot find either one. I'm in FCE 4.0.1. Am I just missing after multiple attempts to find it in the list or were they removed or something?
    thanks,
    billy

I did, yes. The buttons I have in the browser are now (from left to right)
    Export QuickTime Movie
    Print to Video
    DV Start/Stop Detect
    Item Properties
    View as List
    View as Medium Icons
    View as Large Icons
This is a very useful feature to me, so I hope I can get them.
    Thanks,

  • Clip name to file name

Needs to be away to make clip names to file names.
Some files are loaded by other people. They did not name the file right.
It would be nice to have a plugin or apple scrip to do this.

Actually, it's not exactly an automatic procedure - just because you change the name in the Browser, doesn't mean the .mov on your hard drive gets changed. You actually have to either go Modify > Rename (from the Menubar) or control-click with the clips in question corrected, to even get the options.
And, for what it's worth, there is also the option to go backwards (Match Clip to File Name) for the instances when folks get a little to crazy with the clip renaming.
As for file name changes, the renaming does not cascade through to closed projects, you'll have to relink media the next time you open them. However, in a nice touch, FCP does re-write the source property for clips in other open projects - that are linked to the media file in question - when you alter the file name (so those clips won't go offline).

  • Multiclip changes source clip name

    Hi everyone. Strange problem here.
We've been using Multiclip for a while, just upgraded all machines to FCP 7, and now we have an issue where switching angles in the Viewer will spontaneously change the source clip name.
    For example :
    - I've got 2 clips, Cam A and Cam B
    - Make a multiclip out of them
    - Open in Viewer
    - Switch angles from Cam A to Cam B in viewer
    - In the Browser, the clip Cam A is renamed as Cam B, NOT the multiclip
Using the Browser's rename function to match clip to file name erroneously uses the last active angle on the faulty clip, instead of it's proper name.
Tried on 2 different MacPros, same problem.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

Ok, I set my sequence settings to 640x480 and square pixel aspect ratio, but it says the vid rate is 30fps instead of 29.97. How do I change that?

  • Clip name does not import with video file

I have a raw AVCHD file shot on a Sony FS-700. I imported all ~180 clips and moved them from the FCP X folder into a folder on my raid drive for use in multiple projects. The clip names at import are Clip #1, Clip #1, etc. etc. I then rename them in my finder window in their new location. The clips look great and playback great through Quick View and Quicktime. However, I run into a problem when I import them from their new location into a new event. The clip which is named 'FCP X Import' will import and be labeled 'Clip #89'.
I would like to remain naming them in Finder if at all possible. This might be a Yosemite error or just my workflow. Workflow is: I edit directly after the event with imported media from the raw file and use the 'Clip #89' first then move, then rename to 'FCP X Import', then reuse for other features (which is where the problem occurs).
Note: Clips do bring in Finder tags. For example, if I label it red the clip will retain that tag in FCP X
    Thanks.

It would be quite helpful to know what format the footage is, what camera it came from.
First thing to try is this, assuming AVCHD or similar footage type from SD card -
Copy ENTIRE card contents to hard drive, not just video clips. In Premiere, Import using the "Media Browser". See if that helps

  • Clip names missing when trying to reconnect or batch capture

After dealing with a variety of hard drive issues, we have moved our project to a new system and I am in the process of trying to reconnect to old media as well as batch capture lost media files. I have run into two problems:
Problem 1: Many files, while they contain all proper loffing info when viewing in Final Cut, have lost their name when trying to reconnect media. When reconnecting media, the file name shows up as "". I have to manually search and reconnect the file. The problem is, if I try and reconnect from the clip in the browser, the corresponding clips in the timeline do not reconnect.
Problem 2: With clips where the media has been lost, I simply want to batch digitize from the original tapes. Again, while all the info is correct for each master and subclip I want to capture, when I actually go to batch capture, FCP is looking for the clip name "", so it starts telling me that I need to rename my clips since they all have the same name. You can see the problem with that.
Is there something corrupted in the project that is causing this? Will this keep happening? How can I batch capture without renaming all of my detailed clips? All suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick

Ha! Why do you say that's the issue? What would cause that to happen exactly in your theory?
You might want to know that I just opened an old autosave from before we had hard drive problems and switched to a new system and I copied/pasted the exact problem files and they are properly batch capturing as I write this.
Somehow, I still don't feel I have any explanation.

  • Importing C100 AVCHD footage (timecode, media start, clip names)

I primarily shoot and edit AVCHD footage from Canon C100. Typical ingest workflow is to use the Data Import Utility by Pixela. This creates individual .MTS files on my with unique file names (GREAT)...BUT when I bring the files into PP CS6 it sets the media start time for each clip at 00:00:00:00 (essentially wiping out the timecode reference). Alternatively, if I simply copy entire contents of the card to my raid then use the Media Browser in PP to import the footage, the timecode—and media start time—is maintained from the shoot (GREAT)...BUT the individual clip names that it assigns always start with 00000.mts, 00001.mts and so on). This creates a problem when relinking footage...because now I've got multiple projects with the same file names. Any ingest workflow recommendations?
    Appreciate your perspective(s).
    ~ Brian

Use the original media, which gives you the timecode, and upgrade to CC, which gives you the new Link and Locate feature, making relinking a breeze.

  • Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names

Can you Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names in the event original media folder? in version 10.0.8 it automatically allocates date / time of the event. I need it to keep the original clip name i:e Clip0100 event folder original media Clip0100. I am aware you can change the clip name to original once in FCP X, But it's the event folder original media name which I want to remain as the original file name.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the response.
I am aware you can do this change in the Info inspector so the original clip name from camera is used in the event library browser, but it does not change the clip name in the Final Cut Events Original Mieda file. This still remains as an event clip name "2013-05-23 17_08_13". I need the original clip name Clip0100 to remain as Clip0100 at import. FCP X doesn't seem to allow this happen any more in version 10.0.8.
    Cheers

  • Clip name effect not working correctly in 2014/2014.1

I'm referring to these notes from the latest bug fixes here...
Bugs fixed in Premiere Pro 2014.1 Release | Premiere Pro work area
"Clip name effect doesn’t work correctly if Source Track is set to a different track."
"The Clip Name effect does not work when applied to a transparent video track item, with Source Track set to a video clip."
I've just updated Premiere (2014.1) to specifically fix these two bugs. The Clip name effect isn't using the correct file names. It uses something close but not quite e.g. clip 100 shows as 100B which is down the timeline.
The effect is applied to a transparent layer (have also tried it in a black video layer) and the clip name drawn from a different video track (video/PNGs in track 1, transparent video and effect is in track 3). This problem only appears when videos are in the timeline. When used with stills (PNGs) it works fine.
Any idea of a fix or workaround that isn't using some kind of titling filter? I'm looking to automate the shot naming process for a pipeline in creating animation animatics and this would be perfect. If to actually worked properly.
Using Premiere on a Mac Book Pro with 10.9.5.

Anyone from Adobe care to offer some insight as it's something that is reportedly fixed?

  • Sequence and clip name keeps changing... Why ? Solutions ?

The sequence and clip name on a particular project keeps changing. It usually takes the name of of an audio file. Deleting the preferences, opening the timeline in a new project, making it offline and reconnecting it again, et. all doesn't help ? What is causing this ? HELP
    Mac Pro Quad core
    Memory 8GB
    Storage - XSAN
    FCP version 7.0
    OS X version 10.5.8
    Quicktime 10 & 7.66 both installed
Anyone has a solution for this....
    Jp

I made the sequence off line and save it as a new project. Then deleted the preferences and opened the project..... reconnected the media. Most of the clips showed the correct clip name and the sequence name also didn't change. But a few audio tracks still had the old problem....
Thanks for the reply.... haven't updated yet..

  • Find the clip name? Premiere SDK

I might be over thinking this or just plain dumb, but can someone tell me how to grab the clip name from a segment? I feel like there would be some code somewhere if the FCP xml exporter has the names of the clips.
Any pointers or help would be appreciated. Thank you.

After digging through the sdk it seems like my only option might be the IterateNodeProperties function, but I have no idea how to use it, mainly the SegmentNodePropertyCallback bit. So if anyone knows how to set that up that would also be very appreciated. Thanks.

  • Remove Clip Name from Video

    Hello,
I'm relatively new to using Premiere Pro.  I have a video I am preparing for use on the web.  After editing and saving as an .mp4 file, when I play it, using Windows Media Player, briefly (three seconds or so) it shows the Clip Name (file name) in the upper left hand area of the video. How can I stop this behavior?
Thank you for any and all help.

    Thank you joe bloe!
For at least the past four hours, I have been searching Adobe Forums, Google, and checking everything under the sun within PP!  I didn't find how to disable this under preferences for Media Player, but I did open up Quick Time and the Clip Name (file name) isn't there.
If you have the time, could you share the path to the Media Player > Preferences > Disable the Clip Name.  I'm using Win 7 Professional, IE 10.
    Again, thank you!
