Clip Notes .pdf error - "Bad encrypt dictionary"

I'm using OS X Leopard (10.5)
I created a Premiere Pro 2.0.1 project, added a couple of markers with comments, and exported to Clip Notes. I did not set any password protection. Emailed it as an attachment to a client who is using Windows, to see if they could open it. They could not, they received the following error message:
"There was an error opening this document. Bad encrypt dictionary."
Any ideas what this is? Is there a basic incompatibility between Mac-generated Clip Notes files and Windows platform? (I know that Mac can only export the video file in a Clip Notes .pdf as QuickTime, but that does not seem to be the problem here, the client does have QT on their Windows PC.)
Apologies if this is the wrong forum, I could not find any obvious place to post questions about Clip Notes .pdf files.

Same thing happened to me.  Update your adobe reader to the latest version.  Open the file with that reader instead of with your copy of adobe acrobat.  Unfortuanltey, you lose all the features of the adobe software, but at least you can read the file.
Hope you are able to read the doucments from the utility.
Note:  If you are saving pdf's save then in a version that will allow those who have at least acrobat 6.0.  Many orgnaizations and people are a couple of versions behind due to realative costs of upgrading.  This simple task will save you those emails about "bad encrypt dictionary" and allow many to read your pdf's with no problems.  At least that's been my experience.

  • Getting error:  Bad Encrypt Dictionary have tried available solutions

I searched this forum for solutions.  Found only one, but it refers to making adjustments to Distiller, and I am not using Distiller.
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows XP, SP3.
I am creating PDFs directly from Microsoft WORD, 2007 -  via  File --->  Print ----> to Adobe PDF
Many of my customers are using Adobt Reader 6 - I realize that they need to upgrade, but I don't have much control over this beyond suggesting they do and providing a link.
My pssword-protected docs are unable to be opened, users are getting "Bad Encrypt Error".
When I go to Document Properties  --> PDF Version, it says Acrobat 7.x.
I cannot find a place where I can change this to 6.x
    Any thoughts?
Also, I opened distiller to check the PDF settings and it says 6.x, BUT I don't believe Distiller is part of the process when I print to PDF directly from WORD.  Is there a way that I CAN print to PS then Distill?  This may be a solution, but WORD does not have a PS option for printing.
    Thank you kindly....

    Hi Cynthia,
Here's what you need to do:
    Launch MS Word
Select the Acrobat tab on the toolbar
Click on the Preferences toolbar button
Select the Settings tab on the Acrobat PDF Maker dialog (mouse over PDFMaker.jpg below for a screen shot)
Click on the Advanced button in the PDFMaker Settings group box
Select Acrobat 6.0 (PDF1.5) from the Compatibility drop-down list (mouse over PDFMaker_Adv.jpg below for a screen shot)
Click the OK button on the Adobe PDF Settings dialog to save your changes
Click the OK button on the Acrobat PDF Maker dialog
That should fix the problem. Let me know if you need more help,
    Steve

  • There was an error opening this document. Bad encrypt dictionary???

I'm trying to download a job application but every time I try to open it I get this mesage, "There was an error opening this document. Bad encrypt dictionary" What does this mean? How do I fix it? I tried repairing and updating Adobe but it didn't help.

What version of Reader do you have?

  • "Bad Encrypt Dictionary" message

My customers are suddenly getting the message "Bad Encrypt Dictionary" when trying to open our PDF catalog on our website.  I tried opening the catalog from my computer and it opens just fine.  I'm using IE8 and Acrobat 9 Pro.  Not sure if any of that makes a difference.  If anyone can shed some light on this issue I'd really appreciate it.

    I had a similar issue.  Here's what I did:
    (1) Save the PDF so it can be "read" by at least adobe 6.  Go to File>reduce file size> click on adobe 6.
    (2) Post this new file to the web.
    (3) You can also provide a link to the most uppdated reader and give your customers an option to download the most updated reader, even if they have adobe acrobat.
What's happening is that they likely have an older version of adobe acrobat and that version will not "read" the catalog you created in either the newest or newer version of adobe.
At least this has been my expereince.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can I edit a Clip Notes PDF?

    Hello,
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 to export QuickTime files to PDF. Since the URL is entered with the Clip Notes dialog, is there a way to change this URL in the PDF after it has been created? I do have Acrobat Professional.
I did figure out that I can just select a few frames and render to a different folder and ditch the QuickTime and use the other rendered file, and it seems to work OK... but that's a bit of a hassle I guess.

Here's the link to ask how to use Acrobat

  • Clip Notes PDF / CS Review / Shared Creative Cloud Assets?

Client feedback for a Premiere sequence?
Is there anything in place yet in CC to share and receive client/co-worker feedback?
I'm looking for a new cool little export option in Adobe Media Encoder that will plug into my Assets Folder in CC.
I know video is big and awkward in comparison, and it will happen eventually... Just wondering if anyone has been able to work out something similar?
Thank you very much for any direction you might have--

    Well....
For now, I'll just overlay the timecode effect on the video, render it out to a wmv file that's about half the size of the original and put it on my ftp server for the client to pick up and review. They can email the timecode changes.
I really hate it that Adobe keeps adding and removing features.  It's hard to do without a feature that you've come to expect will be there when you upgrade and that you've gotten use to.  If they really want to try something out, make it a plugin.

  • Clip Notes streaming export causes Reader media clip error

MacPro HDV captured into PPCS4, export OK to Adobe Clip Notes streaming, uploads .mov file to my FTP site OK. The .mov clip plays fine locally in QT. When I open the clip notes pdf in Acrobat 9 Reader for Mac or Acrobat 8 Pro on Vista, both give the same error on opening: Javascript window - error reading media clip. The clip does not load into the pdf, and I can not get error information to debug.
Answer: I need QT streaming server. The Clip Notes streaming is true streaming, not progressive-download or pseudo-streaming. I did not see this in the Premiere CS4 documentation.

    I'm using Vista 64.
I was having the same problem with the transport controls not showing up.
I set AcroRd32.exe to run in XP mode and that fixed the problem with the embedded movie file.
    Transport controls show up.
    Thanks.
I hoped that would also fix the QT streaming problem.
However, if I select "Streaming" and upload it to my server then when the Clip Notes tries to play the file it says "
This happened also before I set AcroRd32 to XP mode.
No problem with "Clip Notes Windows Media" format.  It uploads and plays fine.
The .mov file is on the server.   I can play it fine in a browser.
Any ideas why Adobe Reader won't play a streaming .mov file in Clip Notes, but will play a streaming .wmv file?
You really need to use QT so you can scrub the timeline.
.wmv files don't let you scrub!
Adobe why haven't you after all these years made Clip Notes use flash?
If you did it would truly be cross-platform.
    Thanks.

  • Reader 9 Kills Clip Notes

For anyone using the Clip Notes feature of Pr or AE: don't upgrade to Acrobat Reader 9.
Your client won't be able to add comments, nor will they be able to export the .xdf data file that gets imported back to your Pr sequence. When you open the Clip Notes .pdf file in Reader 9, the program alerts you that the .pdf document has enabled features that are not available in that version of Reader. No other information is available.

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, there is no Adobe presence here. We are all just users. Adobe might "read" a few posts out in the main fora, though we seldom know. The chances of them reading something in the Lounge is as close to absolute zero as one can get - sorry.
I would have assumed that this HAD been fixed by now, but from your comments, maybe not. Do you have the latest releases of all programs, Acrobat Reader 9, PrPro CS4.1 and whatever AE CS4 is up to? BTW, your client will likely need the latest for all pertinent programs too. Good luck.
For getting the attention of Adobe, it's best to use the Bug Report/Feature Request.
    Sorry for the bad news,

  • Clip Notes doens't work in Reader 9??

I read online that Clip Notes doesn't work with Reader 9?! Maybe that's why I and my clients have been having problems as of late with Clip Notes?
So I found an Adobe link for Reader 8.12 and tried to download it but it defaults to downloading 9. This really sucks Adobe. I'm not upgrading until the new year. What exactly am I supposed to do now? This is part of our workflow and now it doesn't exactly flow.
Btw- I'm on Mac, OSX 10.5.5, CS3. I'm dual booting and on the Windows side with Reader 9, can't view a clip notes PDF. On the Mac side, I can open the ClipNotes pdf and see and hear video but the timecode is screwed up and get an error message that "you can't save this form", etc.

I agree with Jim as to the bottom line for CS3 current workflow/workarounds.  However:
The problem is not the development of CS3 but the development of the Acrobat Reader
My understanding is that the issue is indeed with CS3.  Reader 9 closed certain security holes, which is why it no longer plays Clip Notes files.  CS3 would have to be updated to create files that are compatible.  But like I said, that's not likely to ever happen.
When the same company (Adobe reader/Adobe Premiere/clipnotes) makes changes in one area that break an important/promoted feature in another product, they should fix the broken product.  CS3 should have kept its promised functionality in the supported operating systems.

  • Reader 9 - Clip Notes?

I have a client that downloaded Adobe Reader 9.0 and is unable to playback a Clip Note PDF created in Premiere CS3. They keep getting an error message: This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer enables in this Reader version.
Any one else had this problem?

I downloaded Reader 9 to check this out.
I am able to play the Clip Notes video, but I have to click past an error message that says
    >This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer enables in this Reader version.
Edit: It looks like the user can no longer edit the file and save it. And the timecode is terribly broken. This means death to Clip Notes until fixed.

  • Clip Notes + Streaming QuickTime = broken?

I guess this is more of an AME or Reader issue, but figure that PPro users are the most common users of Clip Notes...
I've tried exporting a Clip Notes PDF with streaming QuickTime video from both PPro CS3 + AME, PPro CS4 + AME, and standalone AME CS4, and all of them report an error: "Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this media clip:"
If I use QT but select to embed the file, it works fine. If I use WMV, either embedded or streamed, it works fine. I have confirmed that I'm setting the URL correctly in the Clip Notes settings. The QT spit out by the Clip Notes export plays fine in QT Player, so I know the video itself isn't broken. I'm attempting to play/view these using Reader 8.1.3.
Obviously, the solution would be to not use QT, or to at least embed it, but it's a much larger file than can be comfortably sent to my client (who isn't that technologically savvy). I like the QT option because of the ability to easily navigate/rewind the video.
Anyone else experiencing issues with Clip Notes and streaming QuickTime?

  • Adobe clip notes quicktime playback Win XP 64

    Hello
Havng an issue and wondering if anyone has experinced similar problem. When I open adobe clip notes .pdf file in adobe reader (that I exported in PrPro CS4) on windows xp pro 64 bit- the video comes up but the little quicktime play bar with play, pause and stop does not show up- just black where the bar should be. Now I can click on the black and if I click in the correct areas (blindly) I can still pause and play and fast forward- but this is not a good option. When I play the same pdf in Windows XP pro 32 bit the quicktime bar works just fine. I have quicktime 7.6.4 installed on my XP pro 64 bit machine.
I can export to Windows media and that works with both XP 32 bit and 64 bit- but windows media player won't allow me to scrub the video forward and back like quicktime does
    Any suggestions
    Thanks
    Tony

  • Clip Notes - can't print comments

I'm creating Clip Notes from Premiere Pro CS4 so I can create time-stamped notes on my videos. Clip Notes is working fine in general, but when I try to print the comments, that feature is blocked in the PDF file. On the top right of the commenting panel (under the embedded video) there's an option to Print Comments, but it's grayed out. And on the Options menu accessed at the top left of the Comments panel, Export to Word (and all the other export options) gives me the message that the "PDF is not tagged." There are instructions about how to change that, but they don't work on these Clip Notes pdfs.
Is there a setting in Premiere or After Effects that will let me change the accessibility status, tag the PDF, and print the comments? Or is printing the comments simply disabled because of the multimedia features of Clip Notes? Acrobat help says that it's best to set up accessibility in the authoring program, which I guess is Premiere in this case. But I can't find any other settings or options for the Clip Notes other than the few that come up in Adobe Media Encoder (embed or stream video; gaussian blur; bitrate).
I'm looking for any workaround to gather all of my comments (either from clip notes comments, or from markers) into a list that I can print and use as an index of my videos. There must be a way to avoid typing all the timecodes manually for each note in order to make such a list??
I'll be grateful for any suggestions!

Sorry, just realised subject wasn't very clear so have changed.
