Clip Paths and temp-files

I guess that clip paths are needed for all the files I've
pasted from Illustrator, but do I need all the temp-files?
How can I clean up the clip paths, bitmaps and temp files I
don't use in my project? Flash freezes a couple of seconds now when
I add, remove or edit an item in the Library...

Now I may be wrong (see my sig), but there is only one way I
know to get only the files you use into the library. Copy all of
the frames in the main timeline (highlight all frames - right-click
copy frame), then create a blank document, right-click on frame one
and paste the frames. That will only bring across items from the
library that are used, leaving behind the garbage. Save your new
document.

  • Why does Illustrator CS4 save pdfs with clipping paths and make rasters of gradient areas

    I am on a IMAC and upgraded to 10.6.8 Jan 2014. I am using CS4 Illustrator to create with. When i save my work as a pdf then reopen the pdf in Ill to make changes, the whole page has:
    A.) Multiple clipping paths around it
    B.) Most text has now become outlined. Not editable anymore.
    C.) Gradient areas have multiple clipping paths of the single gradient area
    D.) The gradient areas now become rasterized.
    This is very frustrating as now all of my marketing files, some 300+, are worthless. I don't know where to look anymore to find the problem.
    Please help.
    Thank you very much

    John,
    I have the presets as you have shown. I had been editing the supplied items as you suggested. Then figured i should ask the questions of those who are better than I.
    But still a bit confused as to why the new save places clipping paths around the document.
    Thank you John and Monika for your help.

    I do a save as "pdf" in the format pull down tab. I save to a folder on the hard drive. Where is the "Illustrator editability" check box? I presumed it is in Acrobat some where
    but i seem to be lost.
    It is in Illustrator's Save Adobe PDF dialog, which pops up before the saved file is written.

    Sorry i didn't mention this, but this seems to have occurred when using images and text from provided pdfs.
    That's a critical fact. If you didn't do the original save, the above is moot, and it's too late to exercise any control over the save process. Someone else failed to save for editability. The only thing you can do is clean up/repair the content, (release clipping masks, rebuild rasterized elements, expand objects, etc.), and save correctly as AI. Then, if necessary, re-save as PDF with the correct settings.

  • Basic question on log and temp files

    Hi,
    I need to create a new database in this way:
    - 2 GB for the data file
    - 1 GB for log and temp files
    This is the command I'm issuing to create the db:
    create tablespace xyz datafile '<path>\xyz.dbf' size 2000M reuse;
    How can I say the size of log and temp files?
    Thank you
    Nicola
    Ps-I'm on windows platform

    This is the command I'm issuing to create the db:
    create tablespace xyz datafile '<path>\xyz.dbf' size 2000M reuse;This command does not actually create a database, but a tablespace. If you ran it, that means your db aleady exists.
    So, not sure to follow you on this thread.

  • How do I transform a clipping path and layer at same time?

    I have a bunch of images with clipping paths that need to be altered. Most images need skewed or distorted, and I can't figure out how to transform the path at the same time I transform the layer - so I do not have to create new paths. Thanks
    Working in Photoshop CS2

    I’m afraid You will have to employ a workaround.
    I would recommend applying the Path as a Vector Mask to the Layer (with the Path selected command-click on the Add Layer Mask-button in the Layers-panel), then transforming, subsequently duplicating the Vector Mask and removing it from the Layer.
    Or copy-paste it into the existing Clipping Path and then remove it.
    Some part of the procedure may be automate-able with Actions or Scripts and hopefully it will still save at least some time.

  • When opening a sealed file, are the Autosave-File and Temp-Files encrypted?

    Hi, when opening / editing a sealed file (e.g. a MS Word document), are the Autosave-File and Temp-Files encrypted?

    Hello,
    Yes they are. If they weren't, it would be relatively easy to leak an unsealed version of the file. In older versions of the Desktop IRM opened all files in browser, so theIRM Desktop had to encrypt and copy around these files manually. Nowadays, the IRM Desktop is embedded in the Office applications themselves so we leave the temporary file creation to the application but manage the encryption depending on the nature of the file. So the autosave and temp files (where content may reside) are encrypted, but the lock file (which is only for ownership, not content) is not encrypted for example.
    In fact, the autosave/temp files which are encrypted are actually treated as sealed files, so they contain all the metadata fields you would expect. For example, open a sealed document in Word and set the autosave to every minute and make some changes. wait a minute and you'll see the autosave file (which is a .asd) update automatically (the default location is C:\Documents and Settings\<youruserid>\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\). Make a copy of the file and close Word. If you open the file and Select a Program from a List and choose Word you'll see the file open as a sealed document. If you rename the extension to .sdoc or .sdocx (depending on what the original file was), then you can right click Properties and see the metadata is there too.
    Nicely secure.
    Regards,
    Frank.

  • Time machine backups cache and temp files?

    Just bought a new external usb disk and used it as the time machine backup volume. All time machine configurations are remained as default, so it would backup all my current HD. While watching it estimating the time that the first backup would take, a question jump out in my mind:
    Will time machine backup all files "honestly"? Will it make a copy of every file including the Internet cache and temp files when I'm browsing websites? I'm used to watch youtube a lot, and the temp flv file would be large (though I don't know where it is stored on Leopard). If these files would be backup-ed as well, I think it would be a great waste of disk space.
    Can anyone confirm that those caches and temp files would be copied or not? If it would, how to prevent this? Thank you.

    If you wish to exclude anything from the backup simply drag the item into the Exclude list. For example, you can save considerable space by excluding the /System/ folder. Cache files would be found in the /Library/ and /Home/Library/ folders. Each folder contains a folder named Caches. There is no specific folder in which temporary items as stored that is visible to the user because the operating system will usually delete temporary files on its own. This may not be the case for a specific program, however. Browsers may maintain their own reserved cache and temporary files, and manage them on their own.
    I do not think, however, that TM backs up caches or temporary files. I find no such items in my TM backup - only the folders. I do not back up my /System/ folder.

  • Relocating skype history and temp files folder on ...

    Hi Skype Team.
    My laptop is equipped with SSD storages and i am configuring it to reduce disk write operations intensity.
    SSD is the system drive, marked with C letter. OS is windows 8.1 x64
    Disk operation analysis shows that skype is in top of disk writers, so i want to reconfigure it's temp files folder and history db location to another drive D, not ssd.
    I reinstalled the skype to another drive and created a folder for temporary files.
    Skype .exe location is "D:\Program files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe"
    The new folder i created for skype temp files is: "D:\Program files\Skype\DataStore"
    Following one of the topics i tried making a new shortcut, with the path specified as:
    "D:\Program files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /datapath:”D:\Program files\Skype\DataStore” /removable
    But skype don't start.
    When i remove /datapath:”D:\Program files\Skype\DataStore” /removable, skype starts successfully.
    Please advise proper measures to change temp file and history db folder
    Solved!

    This should have been working. I'm using this kind of Skype shortcut to run several different Skype versions at the same time.

  • Clipping Paths and Smart Object

    When I place a photoshop eps into a PSD file the image doesn't come over with a transparent background. I do have an active clipping path, it showes up transparent when placed in Illustrator and InDesign. Am I mistaking in thinking that the image would be clipped when placed?
    I am using CC, but this problem has been in both CS6 and CS4

    PS operates on channel-based transparency. Just having a clipping path doesn't associate it with the pixel data. You will have to create a proper transparent layer and assign the path as the clipping path.

  • Detecting clipping path in EPS file

    Hi All,
    I have problem with detecting clipping path settings in EPS.
    It's easy to find all cliping paths in file, they are listed in clippingPath.photoshopPathNames
    but when EPS is saved with clipping path selected, this path is always applied and clippingPath.clippingType is ClippingPathType.none
    I can't find any property which can be usefull to detect.
    Thanks!
    Piotr

    Hallo Piotr,
    Perhaps the following approach can help.
    The script places the eps (inside the selected frame) twice in a new layer: the first time with property epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = false and then with true. Afterwards the dimensions were compared and the layer deleted.
    Please note that it will only work if the paths are smaller than the image dimensions.
    #target InDesign
    var _eps = app.selection[0].epss[0];
    var _uerEPSFrames = app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames;
    var _tempLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.add();
    try {
      if(_eps instanceof EPS && _eps.clippingPath.photoshopPathNames.length>0) {
        if(_eps.clippingPath.clippingType == ClippingPathType.NONE) {
          var _savedClippingPath = __savedWithClippingPath(_eps,_tempLayer);
          if(_savedClippingPath[0]) {
            alert("Clipping path applied in Photoshop" + "\r\r" + "Path name: " + _savedClippingPath[1]);
          } else {
            alert("EPS without applied clipping path (Photoshop and InDesign)");
        } else if (_eps.clippingPath.clippingType == ClippingPathType.PHOTOSHOP_PATH) {
          alert("Clipping path applied in InDesign" + "\r\r" + "Path name: " + _eps.clippingPath.appliedPathName);
    } catch(e) {
      alert(e);
    app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = _uerEPSFrames;
    _tempLayer.remove();
    function __savedWithClippingPath(_curEPS,_tempLayer) {
      app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = false;
      var _tempEPS_1 = __placeFile (_curEPS,_tempLayer);
      app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = true;
      var _tempEPS_2 = __placeFile (_curEPS,_tempLayer);
      if(_tempEPS_1.geometricBounds[2] == _tempEPS_2.geometricBounds[2] && _tempEPS_1.geometricBounds[3] == _tempEPS_2.geometricBounds[3]) {
        return [false,""];
      } else {
        _tempEPS_1.clippingPath.clippingType = ClippingPathType.PHOTOSHOP_PATH;
        return [true,_tempEPS_1.clippingPath.appliedPathName];
    function __placeFile (_file,_layer) {
      var _filePath = _file.itemLink.filePath;
      var _fileToPlace = File(_filePath);
      return app.activeDocument.pages[0].place(_fileToPlace,[0,0],_layer,false)[0];
    A little roundabout, i know, but i think you can not obtain the value in a direct way. But maybe someone else knows a better way.

  • ITunes Library.itl file, and temp files after Time Machine retrieval

    Hi - I messed up a playlist and got it back fine using Time Machine, but I'm left with temp files as well as iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml files on my desktop (that's where I placed the needed file for playlist re-import).  Can't delete them, can't move them....what do I do with them?!  Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Thanks, but with iTunes closed, I get this when I try to delete.

  • Trouble with clipping paths and expanding

    Hey y'all. Okay, so I have a Illustrator element that uses a clipping path.
    Even after I run "Expand Appearance" on it, it's not trimming the art to the bounds of the path.
    It's making for difficult to position correctly when copying into Photoshop as a Smart Vector or Shape Layer:
    And it isn't correct in After Effects either.

    What you are describing is just another example of the very common need to trim artwork (including filled, unfilled, open, and/or closed paths) without wrecking its already-applied Attributes, Appearances.
    As has been discussed many many times here, Illustrator simply does not provide that basic functionality...neither by its horribly-designed cutting tools nor through its problematic and caveat-riddled Pathfinders. Expanding a Clipping Path doesn't serve as a workaround for this long-missing functionality; nor does flattening transparency. You can't do it without resorting to the workarounds you've already tried or others that will no doubt be suggested.
    Once again:
    NONE of Illustrator's cutting tools (Knife, Scissor) can cut across artwork that includes multiple open, unfilled paths. Open unfilled paths are ignored by the Knife cut. The Scissor cannot cut across multiple paths at once.
    Illustrator's recently-added, very poorly implemented Eraser tool comes nearest to the needed functionality. It can at least cut multiple unfilled open paths without their becoming converted to unstroked, closed fills. But it unpredictably alters the shapes of remaining portions and has no means by which to accurately control a cutting shape other than rectangular.
    This is a prime example (there are others) of how Illustrator confuses and clutters the interface with multiple under-powered tools designed for similar functions, none of which measure up to a single tool properly designed for the same purposes in most other programs.
    Pathfinders are riddled with ridiculous caveats. Those which come close to providing the needed functionality are incapable of ommitting the unwanted deadwood and/or wreck strokes by outlining them.
    Illustrator needs a feature that allows any given path to be employed as either a selection marquee or a cutting path. And the cutting operation needs to act as expected regarding strokes as well as fills--as common in any other drawing program that does provide the long-missing functionality (most do; Illustator never has).

  • Attachments and temp files in GW 2012 Client

    I hope this is not already in a thread, I have not found anything yet, so if it is I appoligize ahead of time.
    I have updated to Groupwise 2012, running on a SUSE Linux Server, and am slowly upgrading windows clients to 2012 client. I have one user with an attachment issue. They have a file that is e-mailed to them, in Excel, that they open, make one or two changes, and then print. They do not need to save, nor are they trying to save, the file for any reason. The file comes in with the same name everytime it is sent to this user. The first time the user opend the file, everything was fine. However on consecutive opens of the file, they get an error asking to replace the exsisting file with the one from the database. When I looked at the machine, there is a Groupwise folder in their My Documents folder, where it looks to store temp attachent files. These files seem to be auto saved to this folder, cause if I delete the file in question, the attachent opens fine, but when they close the attachment, the temp file is left in the Groupwise folder causing the next open to ask to replace the file. Has anyone else ever seen this issue? Any thoughts on how to fix this, so the temp attachment files are deleted and not left there? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

    This change was done on purpose to help prevent issues where users open
    attachments which go to the Windows temp directory, make changes, save
    the changes, exit GroupWise, then can't find the file. They can't find
    it because it's not there as the GW client cleaned out the temp
    directory. The new design keeps the document so that users never lose
    their data. The downside is that they get the warning message you
    indicated above if they try to open another attachment with the same
    name.

  • Network UNC paths and SWF files not running.

    Flash Player wont run SWF files from a network unc path. A map drive works. How can I resolve this?
    Our user profiles in window 7 are roaming and the my documents redirects using a unc path to the my documents area.  When the swf file is run, you just get a white background in the player.  The standalone player is version 8 .  We also deploy the latest flash player plugin for ie9 browser (currently 11.3).
    I have tried adding the unc path \\servername\pathname to a .cfg file in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\FlashPlayerTrust  as described in the flash player administrator guide.  This did not work.
    I have also tried to update the global security settings panel with the unc paths required and copying the settings.sol file to users profiles but this has not made any difference.
    Can anyone help?
    Many Thanks
    Mark

    Thanks for replying Jeromie.
    After a bit of digging, I discovered that the problem was with the profile path for users. I am not sure why, but when the profile path contains the fully qualified domain name in it , flash player fails i.e \\server.domain.co.uk\sharename\flash.swf.  when the path was changed to \\servername\sharename\file.swf , it worked.
    I changed all the users profile paths and removed their appdata to and now all users can play flash files with the new profile path.
