Clip quality gets severely degraded (appears interlaced) upon import?

I am trying to import a clip into Premiere to use in my project but whenever I import it the quality gets severely degraded: http://imgur.com/JHVbl
It looks this way both in the preview and after export but it looks fine when I view it outside of premiere. The clip is 720p mp4, the sequence preset I used was AVCHD 720p30.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Creating a new sequence based on the clip results in the same behavior. Here is the set of steps I am currently following to reproduce this:
File -> New Project
- all scratch discs "Same as project"
- Video Display Format: Timecode
- Audio Display Format: Audio Samples
- Capture Format: DV
Video Rendering and Playback Renderer: "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" (greyed out)
New Sequence window pops up, clicked Cancel
In the "Project" window I right click, select "Import...", doubleclick the file I posted on limelinx. "Rallycross 5 - Map Analog.mp4" shows up in the list of items.
In the "Project" window I double-click the "Rallycross 5 - Map Analog.mp4", it opens up in the "Source" window.
I set the zoom to 100% and scroll to the bottom right corner of the frame, the speedometer needle is distorted and looks interlaced.
This is with Premiere Pro CS5. Considering the clip is distorted even within the "Source" window is it possible this is a codec something outside of Premiere that Premiere is relying on? When I open this clip in VLC it plays properly.

Lumix GH4 - AVCHD clips 16.5 hours in the past upon import.

I have a Panasonic Lumix GH4 (firmware V2.0). I just discovered that all my clips shot in AVCHD have an incorrect creation date upon import into FCPX (10.1.4). All files have a creation time/date exactly 16 hours and 30 minutes behind the actual recording time.
The clock on my camera is correct time. The date shows as being correct when I review the clips on the GH4. But when importing to FCPX, the date in the media import window shows the creation date as exactly 16.5 hrs in the past. I have tried this on my Macbook Pro, iMac and just returned from the local Apple store where I tried it on their Mac Pro, with a Genius observing the process. Exact same result.
This ONLY occurs when the clips are AVCHD format. The GH4 offers AVCHD, MP4, MOV. All clips shot in mp4 or mov show the correct creation date. It is only the AVCHD clips that have this issue.
For example, if is shoot short 3 clips at exactly noon (12:00pm) today. Quickly switching the format between the clips. Upon import to FCPX the mov and the mp4 show a 12:00pm January 26 creation date. The avchd clip show 5:30pm, January 25 date.
This makes a total organizational mess when I have dozens of multi cam clips from other cameras that do sort properly by date.
Has anyone else seen this ?

Would someone mind just shooting a few seconds of video in AVCHD, pop out the SD card, and import media into FCPX and check the Creation date please. Any results would be appreciated. (BTW: This has to be v2.0 of the GH4 firmware).

Why does get-attachment 1aspx appear on pictures imported from Iphoto

Pictures imported from Iphoto into Imovie not as clear as originals. There is a note with each picture ...get-attachment 1aspx. Could this be the reason? What does this message mean?

iPhoto shows you the image at full resolution. If the image is tiny then it's tiny.
You can magnify an image by 300%. In edit mode hold the option key and tap the 2 or 3 button.

Exported clip quality degraded

In order to improve the smoothness of the video motion I edit individual frames (eliminating repeat frames) ending up with a long string of short clips which I want to export as a single clip and import again.
My problem is that the imported combined clip quality is degraded compared to the original. I tried expert settings with *no compression*, but the clip was still of lower quality than the original.
The export size (720X480) and FR was set the same as original.
Any suggestions how to export without degrading?

Andrew, I read your post several time and have no idea what you are trying to do. This is iMovie HD6 forum, are you in the right forum ?
I have worked with iMovie 4 & 6 for several years, and have never had a need or a reason to do what you speak of. I use a tape based video camera. You should see no loss in image quality if you export back to tape. I have no experience with other formats, but I suspect that with formats other than tape, you would compress every time you save, resulting in some loss of resolution.
If you see "jitters" when you pan, I suspect that you would be using a camera with a digital stabilizer, in which case you should switch such stabilizer off when you pan.

Poor clip quality after applying slow motion or stabilization

I am making a movie. Every clip that I change to slow motion, or stabilize (or add both to), becomes blurry. I finalized it & put it on dvd to see if it still blurry on the tv, and it is. Anyone know how to fix these clips so I can get the original clip quality with the slow motion/stablilization?

I am using PPro CC 7.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.8.5. I'm working in software only renderer. Just by applying a Three-Way Color Corrector or a Video Limiter (just applied, without any modifications... didn't test other filters), the photo quality is degraded. The result is the same after exporting or rendering the sequence. Tested in DVCPRO-HD and ProRes interlaced sequences, same result.

On another editing station with CUDA enabled, the problem isn't there. But not all our station are CUDA enabled, so I wish I could fix the problem.

If you've never used them before (they are new) then they are not formatted for Macs.
Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When you want to remove an external device you must Eject it:
First, select the Desktop icon of the external disk. CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Eject from the context menu.

Importing legacy clips - ends getting trimmed

We are working on a project that involves importing some older Quicktime movies into FCP 7 to update certain segments. The old movies were made with Adobe Premiere years ago (late 1990's) and apparently saved using a variable frame rate, they also contain an embedded audio track which we need to keep in sync.
The problem we're running into is that once these files are imported into FCP, a few seconds of the clip is cut off which is noticable mainly due to the missing audio at the end. It's as if FCP is getting it's math wrong and miscalculating the clip's duration.
We have tried converting the old clips in QT7 to a new file with a set frame rate to standardize it, and these files work. However, we have 100's of these to do, and are wondering if there's something we can do inside FCP to make these files work upon import?

When I open my video inspector, the box for image stabilization and shutter roll does not appear. How do I get it to appear?

When I open my video inspector and I click the Video button, no options for stabilization and rolling shutter appear. Is there any way that I can get them to appear, so that I might use these tools?

Many thanks for replying so soon. Actually, I think I've solved my little conundrum. I was selecting all of my clips in the timeline with the hope of running both functions. I found that when I only selected one clip at a time, that the two options would appear and that I could select them.

How to get rid of DVD interlace?

I encoded my source file in adobe media encoder. It is progressive 23.87 mpeg2-DVD and looks great on the computer but after Encore authors it to DVD, I put it in my DVD player and it looks interlaced with jagged edges especially with movement. It's not horrendous but I would like to get rid of the interlacing probelms if I can. I already tried and used media encoder to make my source file interlaced at 29.97 but once through encore it looked worse.
I know that NTSC DVD's are 29.97 interlaced but professional DVD's do not have the interlace issues that I am having. How do I get rid of the interlacing? I have already changed my transcode settings and quality presets. I did one for 23.97 progressive and the other for 29.97 interlaced lower field both with matching export source files. What can I do to maintain a quality image and get rid of the interlacing?

Try this:
Select a Widescreen MPEG2 DVD preset in the AME.
Make sure to select Maximum Render Quality in the Video tab settings
Import the M2V and WAV files as a timeline into a new En project.
Make sure the Project panel shows the M2V file as "Don't Transcode"
Author and burn a disc and test in a hardware DVD player.
If the resulting video has any blocking artifacts they can be fixed with bit rate adjustments. You're looking for jaggies and/or combing artifacts. Hopefully there won't be any.
Also make sure that your playback pipeline is appropriate for DVD -- either test on a SD CRT or make sure your DVD/BD player or HDTV has acceptable upscaling quality. If the player or the TV don't upscale well, then nothing you can do will fix that.

How do I only get certain questions appear in the quiz results?

I have created a course through Captivate 6, throughout the course there are questions to guage the learners attention. There is also a quiz at the end. However, captivate includes on the questions throughout the course on the quiz results which I do not want to happen.
Can anyone advise how I can only get certain questions appear on the quiz results please?

Branch aware turns off the playbar in 6 (not in 7 any more, at least not for me).
Could you explain more in detail what you want, because I don't understand it. You want the user to answer all questions, but the score should only show what? If you don't want some questions to have a score added to the Quiz total, you can indicate that in the Properties of that Question slide.
And please, tell the exact number (3 versions of 6), and also if you have to report to a LMS?

Generally all you need do is give tracks from the same album a common Album Artist. See Grouping tracks into albums. The images need an update but the basic info. still holds.

I am viewing this on a second computer (an older intel duo iMac), not the one I created the library on (a MacBook Pro). Both computers have Aperture 3.2.4 installed. When I return the external to the MacBook, all images appear in browser rectangles. What's happening on the iMac?

You may have a problem with the permissions on your external volume. Probably you are not the owner of your library on the second mac.
If you have not already done so, set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag on your external volume. To do this, select the volume in the Finder and use the Finder command "File > Get Info" (or ⌘I).
In the "Get Info" panel disclose the "Sharing & Permissions" brick, open the padlock, and enable the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag. You will have to authentificate as administrator to do this.
Then run the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" on this library and repair the permissions. To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the ⌥⌘-key combination while you double click your Aperture Library. Select "Repair Permissions" and run the repair; then repeat with "Repair Database". Do this on the omputer where you created the library and where you can see the thumbnails.
Then check, if you now are able to read the library properly on your iMac.

What are the best instagram video settings using Compressor 4? The outputs I have created look clean HD in camera roll. When I view video in instagram preview it looks great, but then when i post it the quality gets blurry. Any advice?

I have read that you should resize the frame to 640 by 640 or 1000 x 1000, and have tried both. I shot the footage on canon 70d using 720p60fps, and edited the footage with iMovie. Its been frustrating to see the finished product look great on iPhone, iPad, or mac but once i post the video- the quality gets blurry when you focus on the faces that are in focus. My footage is basketball action shots from a high school game. Any advice would be huge, I been looking for an answer to this for a month.

Simple export a ProRes 422 file, upload that by itself. Facebook, Vimeo, YoutTube, etc, all compress the video themselves. So don't compress it first, just upload it and let them do their own compression.

I'm going to assume that you use only one Apple ID so the two things that I can think of are to quite all processes and restart all devices and then try to sync those apps again. Quit iTunes, restart your computer and the iPad and then try to sync the apps again.
The other thing would be to try to reset your iTunes account by signing in and out of the account on the iPad. Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad and then sign in to your account and try again.
