Clip viewer

Hello everyone. Not a significant problem here, maybe just something I have to love with...
I'm currently working on a project with about 300 video clips. I'd like to move ones I have not yet placed in the timeline closer to the top of the area where they are placed after they are imported. As it is now, I have some unused clips toward the top and a bunch at the bottom and nothing in between. As a result, I'm contantly having to scroll down through all the empty clip boxes to get to the ones further down. (I hope I'm explaining this sufficiently.)Is there any way (other than dragging & dropping) get my clips all at the top of the clip selection area?
Thanks in advance.
Gary

Hi coachgrd - I guess you already know that by positioning the pointer just beyond the edge of the clip thumb-nails in the Clips Pane, and then clicking and dragging down you can select a bunch of clips very quickly.

  • 16 X 9 TIMELINE VS CLIP VIEWER ASPECT RATIO

I can't seem to find out why I am able to get a full screen image when I am viewing a clip using the clip viewer and not from the timeline for 16 x 9 formats. The timeline seems to scale the image down at least to 80%. Is there something I need to adjust in the Timeline settings? If I select anamorphic the image is stretched to the edges but not the top. My clip were recorded 16 x 9 and imported as such.
    Would appreciate any help.

Thanks for the quick response. I found out that something was messed up with the sequence. When starting fresh and selecting anamorphic without anything in the timeline it works just fine. Thanks anyway.

  • DARKENED CLIP VIEWER.... IS THERE AN ANSWER?

I've spent the past week trying to fix this incredibly annoying problem. The clip viewer in the Final Cut Pro X is DARKENED. I have tried on multiple occasions to recalibrate the screen, color sync, run repair disk, deleted Final Cut Express 4, reinstalled 10.6.8 package. There are two other discussions running on this topic and still no answer.
Apple support suggested deleting Final Cut Express and reinstalling 10.6.8. This is getting insane. When you scroll the mouse over a thumbnail, the image in the clip viewer and the thumbnail go dark. Move the mouse OFF the thumbnail and it goes back to its correct colour but now ANOTHER thumbnail has gone dark. This is quite difficult to explain. Please see the screen grabs below. I've run out of ideas here. This is getting ridiculous!

    do you use multiple monitors?
i had the same problem when using fcp x with my second monitor connected.
the clips get back to normal when i disconnected the second monitor from my mbp.
its strange cause i had been using the 2 monitor setup before and there's been no problem.
and then i tried to re-connected my 2nd monitor and it get dark again.
after that i changed the second monitor's calibration / "display profile" to the original setting, and the problem is gone.
    hope this can help.
oh, and i'm not recalibrate my screen, i just change the display profile to its previous one (before i calibrate it).
sorry for the bad english, i'm asian.

  • PHOTOS FROM IPHOTO WILL NOT IMPORT INTO CLIP VIEWER WHERE MOVIE IS CREATED

ok...please answer this question...i NEED it to be answered!!!!! When I try to put the Ken burns effect on a photo and then import it into the clip viewer, it will NOT let me!!!! Please H~E~L~P ME!!!!!!!!!
        HELP ME!!!!!

    Welcome to discussions!
You have not told us enough information to H~E~L~P you.
We need to know everything about your Mac, hard drive space (look at mine below). Go to "My Settings" at the right of this screen and fill out that information please.
In the meantime, i'll throw a couple of ideas your way:
If you are you trying to edit a previously imported image rendered by the Ken Burns Effect, there's an iMovie bug that prevents us from updating the clip when we empty the iMovie trash.

  • OK to remove used clips from the Clips Viewer?

At the bottom of the iMovie 9 screen, there's an area that I think is called the Clips Viewer--the area that shows the imported clips that you can add to your project. After I have done so and I am sure that I don't want to add them anymore to my project, is it okay to remove the clips from the Clips Viewer? I have a lot of clips that I want to use in my project that all have very similar thumbnails and having them all in the Clips Viewer at once will create hopeless confusion.

Don't delete any clips from the event viewer that are used in your project until you have completed the project and shared it. Then if you are sure you do not ever want to re-edit that project or share it again or use those clips in another project then you can delete them. If you delete them while your project is active the clips will go off line and your project is unusable.

  • Themes - Unable to drag or apply theme elements to clip viewer

Why does a theme dissapear immediately after dropping into the clip viewer?
After editing movie (14 chapter markers) and selecting "Reflection - Black" , theme, element "Open", 3 clips were placed in the "drop zone"and title was typed. The result was stunning, but hitting the "apply" button would place the rendered clip at the end of the movie for a few milliseconds and then disappear. Same thing with theme element "Chapter". Choosing the CHECKMARK or dragging the element directly to the clip viewer also failed to keep the clip there. The clip plays flawlessly in the preview screen; just can't add it to the movie. External firewire hard disk has over 137GB of freespace left. Any ideas?

How is your external hard drive formatted? It needs to be formatted for Mac
( Mac OS Extended.) Try using Apple's Disk Utility to format the drive. However, when you reformat you will lose all files on the external drive in the process.

  • Why the FCP 7 is show the different clip view which is not there?

I am using FCP7 for about 5 years now but never faced this type problem before. I am using footage from 3 different cameras as usual. When I view the clip or export the files it shows the different clips which are not there. Could anyone help me to solve the issue please. I already trashed the FCP preferences.
    Thanks in advance.

This sometime occurs when you are using source that is not friendly to FCP-7, such as material that is in the H.264 or other mpg format.
Is your source material all converted to an edit friendly format?

  • Time missing from clip view

Im trying to edit a video for work and i have already gone through and marked time segments to reject clips from becasue of speaking errors. The issue is that in this new version of iMovie i cant figure out a way to view the clip time so i can easily select that area and reject the time frames that i already have.
Has anyone found a way to bring the clip time HH:MM:SS back into the new iMovie?

Settings > General > Reset > Rest all settings.
    This won't effect your data.

  • Clip viewer window too big

When I press "open clip" it opens the clip in a window that's bigger than my screen, which is a problem since I can't see the key at the bottom. Whenever this has happened with other software, I would just press the green maximize button and it would resize to fit my window. However, on this window the green maximize button is greyed out. So are the preferences. Any ideas? Thank you.

Just to throw one more tag on to your question- don't know if it would work with your computer, but it should work with anyone with a retina display screen as on my newer MacBook Pro.
Open Preferences, then open Displays in the second row, and of the two choices at the upper part of the window click on Display if it is not already selected. Below it click on Scaled, and 5 boxes will be shown relating to text size, labeled: Larger Text.......Best (Retina)......More Space.
As you click on the smaller print size choices your open (actually all) windows will be commeasurably resized along with the font size and will result in a window for which you can use the edge arrows to put the bottom up high enough, so that when you click on your former font sized choice of the 5 choices and resume your normal window sizes, you will be able to have all your iTunes' window on your screen ready to utilize.

  • P2 clips viewed fine in bin, needs render in timeline

We're running FCP 5.1.4 and are trying out the AG-HPX500. The clips are imported just fine and I can play the clips in the bin on my monitor.
But when I drag the clips to the timeline, they are red striped.
We have set the Timeline to DVPAL anamorphic. The clips are recorded in 576i with DVCPro50.
The computer is an Mac G4 Dual. I think that there might be a setting for the timeline - normally we capture Betacam SP using Apple FireWire PAL.
But I can't figure out what timeline setting needs to be changed?

    Niklas,
Your sequence settings must match your clip settings. If you shot at DVCPro50 then your timeline needs to be DVCPro50. The simplest way to do this is to choose the DVCPro50 Easy Setup. If you don't know what an Easy Setup is then it's time to crack open those manuals.

  • Can't see clip preview in clip or timeline view

This may be a simple problem, but I am brand new to this. I am making a movie out of photos, and the process seems simple. I drag a photo from my iphoto library (from the photos pane) into the clip view (or timeline). The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black. So I can't really easily edit the clips because I have no idea which one is which (besides looking at the filename!). The images I am importing are jpegs and like I said it has no problem playing the movie correctly I just see what I am working with in the clip view. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum!
The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the
clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black.
    Very strange.
To make sure we understand what you see... The imported image plays okay on the timeline after it's imported, but its thumbnail in the timeline is black. Instead of the thumbnail showing the imported image, the thumbnail is black. Correct?
Does the imported clip play black too?
The only thing I can think of that makes a clip play black is when the Ken Burns Effect is set to pan above/below the image or left/right of the image. Then, instead of importing the image, Ken Burns imports the black border along one side of the image.
To unset the pan so Ken Burns is centered over the image, do this:
    1. Click on any image in the iPhoto library.
    2. Turn ON the Ken Burns checkbox.
    3. Click in the "Start" half of the Start/End thingy.
    4. Drag the zoom slider (the slider with the small/large face profile) a bit to the right, then all the way to the left.
    5. Click on the "End" half of the thingy and repeat #4.
Now the import is centered. If the pan was causing the problem, that should fix it.

  • Syncronization off from clips to timeline viewer

I have made a movie with video & stills mixed. Somewhere along the line I noticed the the scrubber bar is perfectly in sync with the clips viewer but is almost a clip ahead of the timeline viewer. I have noticed a section at the end is blank as well but it has no media, either video or audio. Does anyone have any idea where I went wrong? Any help you could give would be appreciated

    Hi Carol:
You can change the Letterboxing in the preference of iMovie:
Import/ automatic conversion from pillarbox to letterbox - you need to un-check it.
To keep from waiting for it to Letterbox, change the settings to DV Widescreen when you open a new project -If you do record in 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • Importing Multiple Clips in Order

Does anyone know why when I import video from either my video camera or off of a DVD through a ripping software the clips come in in multiple clips? I could deal with this if they came in the same order but they aren't even close to being in order.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Peter

Don't import into or edit in the clips viewer, do so to the Timeline. Then they will always be in order.
Regard the clips viewer as merely a 'parking lot' for stuff you may not need but don't want to delete yet.

  • How can I insert clips in order?

I am using 5.0.2. I have made an album of the photos that I want in my movie, and put them in the order I want. I would like to put in about 9 at a time, but iMovie does not keep them in the order I have. As an example-In iMovie I select photos 01,02,03 by shift-clicking. I place them in the clip viewer. The order is mixed up-03, 01, 02. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I also tried Command-clicking with the same result. Thanks

Grrrrr. Sorry. Hi, Lennart; nice to be back! Just going to turn on my various Macs (..Mac mini, PowerBook, etc..) and start editing a wedding.
So if I don't post anything - or much - for a couple of days, it'll be because I'm extracting audio, adding transitions, creating a DVD ..all the usual things! ..But I'll pop in from time to time to see if there's anything I can answer 'straight off the cuff' without having to dig around for the info..
Hope the weather's OK over there: central Europe seems to have been virtually wiped out by rain and floods (..à la New Orleans..) but we were basking in Greek sun..

  • How can I change the background color of black clips?

"iMovie Help" says to double click (or "apple i" or file ⇒show info), then "Click the color box and choose a color for the clip". I get a "Clip Info" window, with "Name", "Media File", "Size", "Capture date", and "Duration", but it does not have a "Color box". I know this should be a simple task. Thanks to any for their time and expertise.

Hi dosrio - what was the origin of the black clip? If it was a title 'over black' you are best to re-do it, with 'over black' unchecked.
If it was really just an 'empty space' formed by dragging the existing clips to the right, then it must be first converted into a black clip (Control-Click it, and select 'convert empty space to clip'). Then double click it, and the resulting info box will include a colour selector. Note that this is a simple way of creating any colour clip you want. You must be in Timeline mode to create it, after which it will show up in both Timeline and Clips View.
