Clip Whites/glow/blur transition

Hi,
I keep seeing a transition where the whites flare and glow, and it appears blurred. Kinda similar to dip to colour with White selected, but that looks more like a white matte faded in & back out over top of the clip.. the thing I'm describing is more like the whites is pushed up. We don't have the effect I'm after in our transitions as far as I can see.
The closest I can do is to apply Brightnes & Contrast filter + Guassian blur in increments to different frames (.. as we don't have keyframeable effects) or as an overlay (..an 'effected' version of the clip) with an opacity ramp to bring it in (.. not as good)
I'm sure (well, pretty sure) that I got this effect ages ago in iMovie, but all my searching back in that program now doesn't replicate the effect..
I know I'm probably not using correct terminology and that would make it hard for you guys to understand me..
I actually have a piece of video someone else did that has this and when I bring it into FCE and step through it frame by frame there sure looks like there is blur in it..maybe even motion blur, and the colours are all still kinda there, but the whites glow first, and then in the next frames the other colours get whiter, and catch up to the whites..
Trying to describe this has given me a headache..

How can I select just the clips, or just the transitions?

If I have a timeline with 50 or more clips (or still shots, in my case) with cross dissolves between each one, I would like to select just the clips, or just the transitions, but not both. How do I do this?
Why? I am creating a video with hundreds of stills and a few video clips, and occasiionally need to change the duration of all stills at the same time (from 3 seconds to 4, for example). Or, if I want all of the cross dissolves to last 1:15 instead of 1:00, it would be nice to select and change them all at once. However, in both cases, I can't figure out how to select all 50 without having to Command-click 50 times.
Any ideas you have will be appreciated.

To perform the same duration change on just the transitions (cross dissolves, in this example), this technique will work:
Open timeline index.
Enter "cross" in the search box (or whatever transition you're wanting to change).
Select all cross dissolves in list (click one, then type Command-A).
Click the time strip in the top of the timeline area.
All of the transitions in the list should now be selected in the timeline.
Control-D to change duration.
Enter new duration.
Hit Return.
I hope this saves someone all of the time I spent on it today. I'm still ahead, though, thanks to Tom's help. This saved litterally hundreds of Command-clicks.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

White glow around matte screen border?

A white glow has been occuring on my screen that becomes especially prominent towards the bottom, and after a few hours of usage begins to move upwards. However I recently observed that this white glow continues around the border of my screen. Can someone give me a diagnosis and is anyone else experiencing this?

The lack of information, feedback, confirmation, etc that apple is famous for is exactly why I am deathly afraid of ordering the new 17" mbp. I have been stealing my girlfriends' peecee to catch up on emails and websites since I sold my old 15" mbp a couple months ago.
I was just about to pull the trigger and buy the new 17" mbp until the "delay", again no specific information given out by apple. Some people were charged secondary charges and had ship dates of the day of the announcement of the delay - which would logically dictate that there were plenty of machines that had to be un-packed, cracked open and "updated". So with all the unibody related issues, all the 9600 related issues, and all the screen issues of the 15" led, I am not sure i'll be able to play guinea pig for apple... yet again...

HELP!!! Adding effect turns the entire clip white.

I've needed to change some of the words on a title clip, but can't edit the clip since it's been saved long ago, so I need to start over with a completely new clip. Well, I get the right font, right size, right title entrance. But then once I try to add the "Aged Film" effect after creating the title, it turns the entire clip white and you can't see anything.
I'm really frustrated by this since this is one of the last changes I need to make to the video and it won't cooperate for some reason.

Screen has a white glow

I dropped my Ipod, and unfornutalely (even with a heavy duty case) the screen has suffered
damage and now has a white glow to it. This makes every thing really hard to see. I can still see my applications but not very well. Everything is functioning normally. I can see the screen clearly when I look at it from the side. Is the LED screen broken or is it a connection/ hard drive problem?

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

White veil / blur when running animated applet

Hello guys,
If someone can help me on this I will be vey thankful !
I wrote this applet that you can see on http://www.geocities.com/alexbernard2003/
My problem is that it shows a white veil / blur when running.
It's basically one thread that repaints the sreen every 40 ms with the updated parameters.
When I run it on a more powerful computer, it not as bad. So I guess the combination of "bad programming" and lack of computer power makes it crapy.
I don't really want to use Java 3D since very few people have it installed on their browser and that it would only make the code more complicated.
Any suggestions are very welcomed !

Ok, I can see your applet and sow that the parameters change all the time. (I have not wait enought to see it)
On my platform I have no problem to see it. I have no veil/blur.
Perhaps must you upgrade your pc..... but if you have to publish it on web, think that some people have old pc and animations slow the navigation so don't make animations where it's not usefull.

Blur transition?

I don't see any "blur across" for FCE. Is there a way to do that (besides adding blur filters and cross-disolving, etc)? Are there any free third-party blur transitions that can be used in FCE?

OK, I've just spent hours searching . . . . actually a couple of minutes, and found what I think is exactly what you want.
The only trouble is that it is mixed in with a couple of hundred other effects.
However, if you click on my name for my email address and email me, I will send you the lot.
They are only about 3MB so emailing them is no problem.
As for the cost, please deposit £1,000,000 (GBP) in my Swiss Bank Account . . . . if you can't afford that I might let you have them free!

White glow appearing from left hand side

I've a MBP 4.1 which I bought in December 2009. Back then I noticed a small white glow which emitted from the left hand side, this was not very noticeable whilst the MBP was on full brightness with a non black background, so it didn't really bother me.
However it has now grown dramatically (see pic). The wallpaper used here is the standard earth one in OSX.

However, assuming you meant December 2008, you'll need something more mundane. You are covered by warranty so I'd recommend calling AppleCare or visiting an Apple Store.

White Flash on transition

I have made several movie's with still photos put music. I have 1 movie that has just started getting white flashes at the end of some of the transition. I used cross dissolve transition with all movies and only one is doing this. It also only happens with a few of the pictures/transitions.

I can only suggest something that despite not being a flash could
represent an alternative effect. Not sure what exactly you have in mind!

After Mavericks upgrade I lost the current I Movie project I was working on. All that is left is the video clips, no photographs, music, transitions or titles. Three weeks work gone!

I upgraded to Maverick from Mountain Lion.
I also upgraded the various Apple Software applications that appeared after the upgrade to the operating system. I opened I Movie to continue work on a project I was working on and as requested I allowed I Movie to update the projects to allow it to work with the upgrade.
As it was doing this a dialogue box came up showing an error had been encountered and advised me to quit I movie. I did this and when I reopened it the project I had been working on had lost all of the photographs, music, transitions and titles. All that was left were the thirty-seven video clips and nothing else. Where has all my work gone and how can I retrieve it.

It should still be on your backup drive. Try reimporting it.

Oracle forms display bright white flash when transitioning between forms.

We recently migrated an application from Oracle Application Server to WebLogic and we are noticing that in the WebLogic environment while transitioning between forms there is a quick bright white flash that has caused several complaints. We are not sure if this is related to a performance issue which may be preventing the form from painting quick enough or if there is a configuration problem somewhere. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
We are running WebLogic Server Version 10.3, Fusion Middleware 11gR1, and Oracle DB 11.2

Unfortunately we don't have any errors to work off of. The application works fine, it's just that their is a very short delay when transitioning from one form to another and during that transition the whole form turns bright white which has caused users to complain that it could cause an epileptic seizure. I assumed maybe there was some performance tuning/caching that could be done to make it so it loaded quicker. Our DBA team recieved a response from Oracle support stating that although the forms themselves are relatively unchanged, due to the underlying software changes in 11g we are to expect some differences compared to previous versions. We have since set background in formsweb.cfg to use a light grey image which seems to be more acceptable for our users.

Can I make a blur transition?

I have a short clip.
I made a "freeze frame" snapshot of the first frame and added it to the beginning of the project, so now I have five seconds of the person "frozen" before they start talking.
I would like to start that five seconds blurred out, and have it slowly fade into focus, and then the actual clip start playing.
This is so I can put a title and logo over the blurred part and have it fade away, as the image comes into focus.
I know how to do this in Premiere Pro, but need to do it in Elements, if it is possible.

When I replied to your question, it was as I envisioned it as described in my post numbered 1.
After a re-read, I am wondering if you had the 5 second freeze frame always envisioned as a blurred (out of focus) image for most of the image's 5 second duration, with it coming into full focus only at its end as the title leaves and freeze frame ending and video beginning. If that is what you had in mind, then I would ask you to look at...
Note title on Video 2 which spans the complete duration of the 5 second freeze frame directly below it on Video 1.
The title has had a fade in and fade out applied to it.
The Freeze Frame on Video 1 has had the fx Effects/Blur & Sharpen/Gaussian Blur effect applied to it. The Gaussian
Blur effect was keyframed so that the freeze frame stayed at max blur until 4 second point and thereafter fade to no blur.
There are 3 Gaussian Blur keyframes: first at 50 at the beginning 00;00;00;00, second at 50 at about 00;00;04;00, and third at 0 at the end of the freeze frame clip.
The other scheme for your goal was based on Opacity keyframing and placement of the files as indicated in the following screenshot.
Here I did not take the Opacity keyframes to 0 at the junction of the freeze frame and video. More like Opacity 100% to 20% for the Freeze Frame end and Opacity 20% to 100% at the video clip start.
Please review and consider and then let us know if any of that worked for you.

Aperture 3 Printing clipped whites as black

When I print an image from Aperture, any whites that are clipped will come out as black on the final image. Its as if the 'show hot and cold' setting is switched on and applying itself to the printed output. This happens no matter which printer I print to or even if I don't print but just use print preview. If I use lightroom on the other hand using the same computer and image, its all OK. Whats happening?

These images that are not printing or viewing in-correctly... they wouldnt happen to have a knocked out transparancy in the image from PS would they. My knocks print with black. Also if you saved images in PS with masks saved as channels that might cause problems too.
