Clipping in Images

What is Clipping in Images? I understand but yet I don't understand
When I view clipping using curves/levels what is happening ?
I read this excerpt on this web page, but I still don't understand.
Clipping is used to enhance features within an image. You provide a
threshold level to determine how the clipping occurs. The values above
(or below) the threshold level remain the same while the other values
are set equal to the level.

clipping = brighter than maximum white
or you can call it overexposed area of a photo
some portraits use this on purpose
the clipped area is devoid of all details (and blemish) and is just white
if you do an image search on google on "high key portrait" you would see some examples. Here are some examples

part of the face are clipped -- you can't see any details or blemishes in those area
Sometimes, only one of the RGB color is clipped while the other two colors are still below clipped. This usually gives a strange color and doesn't look very good. Changing this type of photo to grayscale sometimes results in better looking photos.
You can also have clipping = darker than maximum dark
or the underexposed area of a photo
google "low key portraits" and you'd find many faces where part of it is black (clipped)
this is done for dramatic look

Kdenlive fail rendering if title clips or images are in the project

Hi.
Thats what happen if I try to render a project with title clips or images inserted, whatever is the output that I choose. If I hide title clips and images, the project renders
I get a popup that says
Rendering of /home/pathtooutputfile aborted, resulting video will probably be corrupted
And what I see in the error log is a little different with the output I chose:
If I choose mp4 I get

Encoder did not produce proper pts, making some up.

Have you upgraded the system?
I had this same problem until yesterday, only kdenlive did not render at all, with or without title clip. Googling about it, I think it was some kind of conflict with mlt and opencv. Opening kdenlive as root did not work for me. I initially downgraded to the previous version of mlt (0.9.0.1 if I remember cforrectly); with that I could render, but only without title clips present. Solution came with last update of opencv (and re-upgrade of mlt).
Also, while I was looking up this problem, I read about a similar bug being related to the sound, and installed ladspa (just in case all the previous doesn't completely solve your problem).

Can PS CC 2014, export a video clip as image sequence?
I am trying to get a short video clip already in PS, into an image stack for stacking>
I dont think PS will stack a smart obj that is a video. So, can PS save out the frames as JPG etc so I can reopen and then stack?
I dont have the space on my HD for Premiere or AE.

Clipping an image from various places at the same time

Hi,
I am trying to clip an image from various places at the same time. Is it possible to do it?
Right now I am in this phase:
g2D.clipRect(x, y, screen.getWidth() - 40, screen.getHeight() - 40);
g2D.drawImage(planet, null, 0, 0);The x and y of the clipRect method I want them to be different each time but it is only taking the first clip.

You can make an Area from a Shape (like rectangle) and then add other clipping elements to that

I just started using CS2 - Can I place an eps image (saved with a clip path created in PSD) into a PSD file? I used to be able to do that in PSD 7.
When I place the eps file into PSD, I don't get the clip I get the entire image.
I made sure that I saved the file with the clip path.
Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Not that I'm aware of. The whole vector stuff has been changed for CS2, including completely revised file format loaders and later on the addition of smart objects of course, which of course is what you would do in CS3...

White outline on outside of clipping pathed images brought into InDesign

Hi. I am on a PC using CS6.
I created some clipping paths in Photoshop on a bunch of images and most of them have a white outline (even in Overprint Preview) shown in InDesign.
I thought I was being careful not to be too close to the edge in order to not get that white outline. I created the paths using the pen tool and path palette.
Please take a look at the screen shots below and I was wondering if anyone has this problem or if there is something I am totally missing.
As you can see in this photo the white outlines are around part of the box and most of the separate pieces of chocolate. This is a screen shot from InDesign.
This same image is below shown in Photoshop with a black rectangle placed behind it and I do not see the white outline. The outline shows in the PDF too when exported so I don't know what to do and I worried it will print this way. Never had this problem before..

Willi, I used your suggestion and I didn't know what I was doing, but it seemed to have worked. I followed that tutorial from that link I posted earlier. I guess I didn't have to worry about a background image. I wonder why that happened, I've never had this problem before.
I used a Photoshop image rather than a tif file. I tried using a Photoshop file earlier on in the game and had the white edges still, but did not use the Alpha channels.

Need advice on Exporting a clip of images!

Hi there guys,
I got a bunch of high resolution Images (1920x1440 pixels) from which i need to make a high-quality 3-minute clip,
not bigger than 30 Mega in size. The frame of the clip doesn't have to be huge, 800x600 is good enough.
Well i'm trying to export the project as F4V, but i can't get a clean output in excellent quality...:-(
Can anyone help me out in some insight on the best options...maybe F4V isn't the right one? tried MOV but
files are huge!
I'd be grateful for any tips and advice...

Your design looks reasonable to me. It's important to connect devices to different members of the stack like you did.
By looking at your diagram I'm not sure if you meant that each ASA has its own Portchannel or not. If you run active/standby scenario I believe you need one Portchannel per ASA.

Clip masked image moves after save- little help please?

Hi, All. I've been working at a printing company for the last 3 years and have seen the issue I'm about to describe only a handful of times. I'd like to understand it more and know if there is a fix that can be utilized before saving the file for production.
So, here's my dilemma.... I've saved Illustrator EPS files that have multiple images that are placed and embedded into the document. All of the images are "cropped" using clipping masks. They have been every common type of image extension (jpg, tif, eps). The issue that I'm seeing is that one or two of the images "jump" from their original placement but we've only caught it during the rip or even after it has been printed (which makes for wasted material). The jump isn't by centimeters either. They always end up off the artboard entirely so the clipping mask shape is the only thing left in place.
So, what's the deal? I've seen this happen in CS3 and CS4. Does anyone have a solution or an inkling of any possible reasoning behind this? I'd appreciate any and all feedback!

The majority of the files we receive are from outside sources. We have in-house preflighting as a courtesy to our clients before we print since our displays range from the very small to the very large. I haven't seen it happen with PSD files but we're too big to convert all the images we receive to PSD files. Who knows if that would even be a fix.

Clipping several images in one rectangular path

Hi guys,
Maybe it isn't possible but in order to make it more easy for me to create a new design, I would like to create a rectangular frame which contains several pictures.
In Illustrator and in Photoshop this is perfectly possible, but in InDesign I can't find an option to create one rectangular frame which clips for example 5 images imported.
Who can help me?

How do I edit a clip's image?

my clip consists of a short clip and an image. when sharing the clip to facebook, i saw that the image was the forefront of the clip. I want either a part from the short clip or another image to be what people see before pressing play.

Just drag the desired picture into the box for the image on the contact card.

I'm using Star Cam Clip almost a year, and yesterday when I start Skype video chat, my image became blur. I can see anything sharp. What could be the problem?

Relinking new clips distorts image

Hello Final Cut Wizards!
I have a project that I'm working on for a client, and the previous editor did several things incorrectly which I am trying to fix. The timeline sequence settings didn't match the clip settings, and the footage was never converted from H.264 mov to Pro Res. I have converted all the footage to prores and made a new timeline sequence that matches the converted clips. My hope is to not have to rebuild the entire timeline from scratch. When I erase some of the old clips I can relink their corresponding new converted clips. HOWEVER, when I do this, either the aspect ratio of the new clip is messed up, (ie shows up smaller in the canvas and viewer, or with black bars on the top and bottom, and sometimes the video itself is flattened in its aspect ratio.) and it needs to be rendered constantly (just like when the original h.264 clips were in use).
Does anyone have any ideas on why this could be, or how I can still use the sequence project plan without rebuilding it?

Thanks for your attention and help!
The first editor had put the 1920x1080 h264 clips into a sequence set to 720x480.
The client has given me footage that is both 23.98 fps and 29.97 fps,all 1920X1080 h264. now that it's converted it's all apple pro res 1920x1080 (some in 23.98, some in 29.97). When I put one of the new converted clips into a new sequence, I clicked yes, make the sequence settings the same as the clip settings.
I am confused as to why it says HDTV 1080i becuase I'm fairly certain in mpeg stream clip I selected 1920 x 1080 16:9. Would the 1080i be causing problems?
Would the differing frame rates? It doesnt seem like these should affect the aspect ratio?
Here is a screen shot of a clip that I put into the project file on the new timeline with the new converted clip. It is smaller than the full canvas and also distorted in it's aspect ratio.
I'm confused (And sleepy!)

Download .wav clips with images using PSE8

I've recorded messages into some of the pictures I took at the time I took them. The camera an Olympus E-PL1 creates a wav file. How do I get PSE8 to download these wav files into the computer folder along with the pictures pSE8 downloads? Right now I have to go back and copy the wav files through WIndows and paste into the computer folder that PSE8 created for the image files.
Also, is there a way to "see" and play the wav files through PSE8 once they are in the computer folder?

When you import photos from Camera to your computer, select these videos as well to import through File->Get Photos and Videos->From Camera or Card Reader option. It will also download the audio file. Also, if your .wav files are copied to the computer select File->Get Photos and Videos->From Files and Folders option and browse to the .wav file. Select the file to import and it will be imported into organizer.Organizer can also play these audio files.
If you have already tried this then where exactly you are getting the error?
