Clips freezing in the Viewer

Lately when I am editing, the clips keep freezing in the Viewer. I can hear the audio but the video is frozen. I know that if this happens in the sequence, I can put it on Safe RT and change things from dynamic to medium or low. But in the Viewer, I can't figure out why. My computer has around 30GB of space. Could it be because there isn't enough space on my external drive (a G-Tech 2TB). There is only 3GB available. If I clear out some space, will that help?
Thanks.

Any other thoughts about what the problem could be now that I have more space?
Molly,
What kind of clips and sequence? Are the clips h.264 by any chance? If so, transcode them to Pro Res 422 or Pro Res LT.
For clip properties, select a clip in the Timeline and hit command 9. For sequence settings, click make the Timeline window active by clicking in the window and hitting command 0. Screen shots of the settings are most helpful.
The free space advice, however, still stands.

    why is the view of the clip different then the view of the project?

    Yes you are correct, it is with the setting of the properties.
    Where do i report this then if it is not with the SDK but the manual setting of properties.
    Also, how do i alter this ussue with the SDK, what are the commands, does it have to be done only by Javascript?

  • Importing my video from my event library into my project library, it shows the full width of the clip, but on the viewing section, it's zoomed in and cut the sides of the video off.  How do I stop this from happening?

    When importing my video from the event library to the project library, it's zooming in and
    narrowing the width of my footage.  How do I stop this from happening?

    In the project, double-click on the clip to open the Clip Inspector. In the Clip tab you will see an item about two thirds down labelled "Stabilization". If checked, uncheck the box "Smooth clip motion".
    Stabilizing clips causes a zoomed in effect, with the extent of the zoom dependent upon how shaky the footage is. There is a slider beneath the check-box labelled "Maximum Zoom" - this can be draggged back and forth to adjust the zoom effect if desired, once the clip has been stabilized.
    You may have chosen to analyze clips for stabilization when importing to iMovie (that's a choice provided by iMovie upon import). If so, it's best to turn off an option in iMovie's preferences. Go to this from the iMovie menu item iMovie>Preferences. Click on the Browser tab and deselect (uncheck) the box labelled "Automatically stabilize clips that have been analyzed".
    I prefer to import clips without analyzing, as this speeds up the import process. Afterwards, in the Event you can check for any overly shaky clips, then analyze them in the Inspector. If necessary, once dropped into a Project, you can stabilize them as desired. You can also stabilize clips directly in the Project without having to first analyze them in the Event.

  • After Effects Video Clip Freeze in the Timeline

    I  exported 20 seconds After Effects compositions as a Quicktime Animation, and when imported into PrPro CC it just plays 60% of the pictures and will display that frame to the end. The audio plays fine but the pictures will just freeze. It's the second time I have had this problem now. Apparently the exported video play well to the end using Rich Media Player. So basically the problem lies in Premiere Pro. Last time I overcame it by using the clip to create a new sequence which I then dragged into my preferred timeline and it worked.
    Any ideas why this is a problem...

    I would try removing QuickTime from the equation.  It's often a problem.

  • Why does the first clip freeze when the second clip should be playing in iMovie '09?

    I'm making a video for my film class and it is due tomorrow. But the thing is that when I play the video through, one of the clips gets stuck on the last second of the previous clip. HELP!!!!!

    Thanks, Ann.  As I mentioned in my post, Tushar correctly pointed out that, without a GPU accelerated card (which I don't have - mine is a piece of junk which I will be replacing with a compatible one soon) you must use the software only settings.  I had changed my project over to the 'software only' setting, and I still had the problem.  The value Tushar added was the procedure for clearing the cache.
    What I did originally was a newbie error, no argument.  I posted it here for others who may fall in the same hole.  Your reply confirms that, without a GPU accelerated card, use the software only settings (sounds so obvious, yet I missed it.....).

  • Audio clips in the Viewer window

    When I double click on an audio track from the timeline, to place into the viewer window, the tab always reads "Stereo (a1a2)" indicating the top (uppermost) track when I have clicked on the (A7A8) track. I have tried using the "Auto Select" toggle with no change. Also, once an audio clip appears in the viewer, all my previous tabs such Video, etc. disappear...Any suggestions?

    It doesn't seem to make sense that you are required to place the tracks into the viewer window for subsequent editing and the viewer has no way to identify what track you are working on???
    That's because - as FCP sees it - although you are working from a clip already placed into the Timeline (hence the sprocket holes in the Viewer's scrubber bar) all the relevant info references the clip as it was captured or imported.
    That is, even though your clip might be placed at 1:00:00;00 in the Timeline, it's In point is at, say, 0:35:24;17 in the clip's own timecode.
    If you've clicked on audio, the Viewer will display audio as sequential tracks for the clip (remember FCP 5 can have up to 24 tracks of audio for a clip). In FCP's way of thinking a1a2 are it's way of letting you know that there are only 2 audio tracks (a stereo pair) in your clip.
    And, yes, the logic can be quite dangerous.

  • Can a selection be used to create an arc without clipping art to the selection size?

    I need to arc a rectangular shaped piece of art into an arc.
    The art has bleed which can't be calculated into the arc, but needs to remain as a bleed. (Just like a clipping path obscures the view of the extraneous art, yet it's still there)
    Is there a way to tell Illustrator to designate a selection to use as the starting area…and then arc it into a shape…without first eliminating the art/photo/type hanging off into the bleed?
    In the following example, the orange rectangle is the area of the art I need to warp into the shape of the arc laying on top…yet I need the bleed to remain.
    [IMG]http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Bug_Nuts/Adobe%20Illustrator%20Forum/Screenshot.png[ /IMG]

    Katrina,
    The question is how can I make illustrator take this
    art...and warp it...making the area that equivalent to the yellow trim
    box fit to the warp shape...YET...keep the bleed...and warp evenly.
    No, unfortunately not: different shapes are warped quite differently.
    My
    experience has been that because of the irregular things hanging off
    the sides, illustrator uses those when it calculates the arc. I need it
    to calculate the warp of this art using the yellow box as "from"...and
    the warp shape as "to".
    To get things to work properly, you can only apply one warp, and the obvious choice is to get everything inside (by getting rid of outlying parts, hence the Clipping Mask with subsequent snipping off) and then inflate the photograph part and get it as nice and even as possible; this has been the basis for the instructions below.
    Referring to the AI file (see bold type) and an amended version of post #17 (I can see that both the photograph(s) and the vector artwork are to be clipped):
    If you have some vector/raster artwork (this is the cat and the circles) within a rectangle (this is the upper, smaller rectangle) and a woody photograph in  the background (I can see that the woody photograph to have bleed is only in the right side), all of which are supposed to be warped using Arc, so  that the warped woody photograph extends past the vector artwork to also  function as a bleed (the bleed seems to be 18pt, corresponding to the lower, larger rectangle), the bounding rectangle of the vector/raster artwork  forming the  basis of the Arc, and if you are willing to adjust the  woody photograph which  may have a slight distortion and live with a non  constant bleed, you may:
    1) Copy the rectangle (this is the upper path in the first Group), to get a top rectangle and a bottom rectangle (the bottom rectangle replaces the lower path in the second Group which cannot be used here, step 6) is to create a path that can do it);
    2)  Select the top rectangle and the underlying vector/raster artwork, Group  them, and reduce the  opacity to 50% (so you can see the woody photograph  beneath;
    3) Copy the bottom rectangle to the front, to get a middle rectangle;
    4)  Copy the middle rectangle to the front to and  Object>Path>Average, to get an supplementary middle rectangle with  W = H = 0;
    5) Select 3) and 4) and Object>Compound Path>Make, to get a middle compound path;
    6)  Scale  the bottom rectangle up by a suitable amount, possibly 1.1 times  for W  and 1.2 times for H so that it covers the desired part of the  photograph  including the bleed (see more later);
    7) Select the scaled bottom rectangle and the underlying photograph and Object>Clipping Mask>Make;
    Now   you need to get rid of the outlying parts of the woody photograph (copy  before these destructive steps and hide the original set):
    8) In the Transparency palette/panel dropdown, click Multiply (or just anything but Normal);
    9) Object>Flatten Transparency (just keep the defaults, especially if you have vector artwork along with the image(s));
    Now  you need to resize the Clipping Mask to match the rectangle/artwork Group:
    10)   Scale the Clipping Mask down by the reverse amount of that in 6) (1.1   times for W and 1.2 times for H) so that it has the same size as the rectangle/artwork Group, but with the woody photograph compressed;
    The main shaping step:
    11) Select everything and Effect>Warp>Arc (this will give the top rectangle the Arc shape, and everything else will be warped correspondingly);
    Creating/shaping the woody photgraph/bleed along with the middle compound path:
    12)    Select the Clipping Mask and the middle compound path (easy to do by  clicking it in the Layers palette/panel), then Object>Expand  Appearance, then
    12a) Click the uppermost Anchor Point (which  corresponds to the inner W = H = 0 path of the middle compound path, and  its says Anchor, if you have Smart Guides on), to set a more correct  centre for scaling and thereby reduce the additional distortion of the  photograph, and then
    12b) DoubleClick the Scale Tool and scale up by the  same amount as in 6) (1.1 times for W and 1.2 times for H).
    Placing the woody photograph:
    8)   Move the woody photograph vertically until the bleed is roughly equal  on all  sides and the photograph is placed correctly behind the   artwork/rectangle Group;
    You may need to redo some of the  steps to adjust and get them right. In this process, you may move the  supplementary middle rectangle 4) upwards before creating the compound  path to further reduce the additional distortion of the woody photograph.
    When things are right (if they will ever be):
    9) Increase the opacity of the artwork/rectangle Group to 100%.
    Final note: I believe the exact distortion of the woody photograph is less crucial than it would have been for the cat.

  • Clips freeze in viewer

    I've looked at a couple of the other threads with this problem and I've tried their solutions, (Trash Prefs, Fit in Window) but the clips still freeze after being played for a few seconds. I have over 32 hours of soccer footage that I collect clips in iMovie (because that is easier and requires less space than importing the whole tape into FCE) Then I import the clips (420 of them) into FCE 2.03 and then want to tweak the in/outs in FCE and then drop to the timeline, but the viewer is sticking! Help! I have all of the clips and the render files and scratch disk files on a huge external firewire hard drive. Is that the problem, or is it a compatibility issue with iMovie and FCE - either way how do I correct the problem?

    Hmmm. So many helpful suggestions - Thank You all!
    I will try to respond to all of them.
    First, I use iMovie to capture the clips, because it seems to be better suited to capturing many short clips (1-5 secs ea) off a long tape (1 hour) - Remember I am getting the highlights and hits (tackles) from a seasons worth of soccer games. There are usually 500+ of these short clips and iMovie automatically assigns a number to them. I then assign a category (Hit, Goal, Defense, Funny, Sad) to the clip on a legal pad so I don't have to stop the tape. Once I have all the clips, I create a folder for each category and then open my iMovie media file and drag each file to it's appropriate folder, this way all of the Hit clips will be in the Hit folder. I then open up FCE and import each folder. Now I have all the clips sorted by category in FCE. Now all I have to do is drag each folder onto the timeline, add music and render. I don't care that it takes long to render - I can go watch tv or eat dinner or sleep - I just don't want to be tied to the keyboard typing in clip names or processing 500 files through quicktime.
    I would have edited the in/out points in iMovie had I known that the viewer in FCE wouldn't work. (iMovie has a tendency to plop 1-3 end frames of a capture a clip onto the beginning of the clip and that is all I am usually trying to edit out.) This is also why I don't drag all 500 clips to the iMovie timeline and then export - because this would create ONE movie while I need each clip seperate and named individually for sorting purposes.
    I would capture in FCE, but from my experience, it is more suited to long c aptures and isn't as adapted as iMovie to quick "start/stop/rewind a short bit/Start/import/stop import, but keep the camera running and automatically name the clip"
    Yes, I upgraded because I am interested in Live Type and I thought that maybe the viewer problem would be fixed.

  • Can not see all the clips in large Icon view in my bin

    I arranged my clips in a bin in large Icon view but i can not see all the clips in the bin while in that mode. I see the clips when in list mode or when i drag them out of the bin into the main bin. As soon I drag them back in large icon view bin they do not show up, when going back in list view they are there.
    Any idea
    Also my daughter accidently pulled the electrical plug, which turned my external hard drive off. So the media was off line. I hit reconnect the clip but the clip does not show as connected in the bin it keeps the Media offline icon but putting the clip in the viewer or time line it plays it. So the clip is reconnected
    hope anybody can help with those two issues thanks

    Nick
    thanks for your message it helped to show the clips. Here how I solved it. I put the clips i could not see in large Icon view, to the Project folder. Even in the project folder I was only seeing the clips with Thumbnail in list view. When i hit large Icon view the clips disappeared, and they could not have been lower down as i only have about 5 folders in the project. I then clicked arrange the clip by name and they showed up again. Like that i dragged the clip back in to its bin and it showed up. The reason for going back and forth I arranged the clips manually in the bin before and when hitting arrange by name it spread them to far apart and put the clips not in a sequence I liked.
    for the second part I followed Neil's suggestion it worked.

  • I have one specific library that when I select the "view all clips" in the browser drop down box, FCPX locks up.  Rebuild the library?  What would be the best method?

    Final Cut Pro locking up when view all clips selected in the browser.

    Russ H,
    Yes, Force quit is the only option.  No background tasks running, nothing on FCPX works, save I can move the beach ball around.
    All the other menu options work fine.  In fact, FCPX works in the library except when I select view all clips in the browser.
    I am running Version 10.1.3 .  It is only this library that has the problem.  I am a new user so I only have three or four libraries so far.  Most on the same local external drive.
    The only difference I have been able to determine is the library in question has files on my boot drive as well as the local external.  Could that be the issue?
    Thanks for the prompt reply!

  • I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but can't it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

    I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

    You cannot drag the effects themselves to the timeline.  You add them to a clip in the Viewer, just as you have done.
    If the clip was already in the timeline when you  opened it in the Viewer (by double-clicking it in the timeline to open it in the Viewer) and then added the reverb effect, there is nothing further to do, you have added the effect to the clip.  You don't drag it back to the timeline.
    You only have to drag the clip to the timeline if the clip was not already in the timeline (for example, if you opened the clip from the FCE Browser; or set different In and Out points in a master clip to use a different portion of the master clip in a different location in your timeline).
    Depending on the effect you add, you may have to render the timeline after adding the effect.  But I don't think reverb requires immediate rendering.  One other note, you said you were working with an audio clip ... audio clips need to be AIFF (not MP3 or something else) and preferably 16-bit stereo.

  • How do I stretch (or compress) the viewing time of a video clip in Elements 12?

    How do I stretch (or compress) the viewing time of a video clip in Elements 12?

    oxmox
    What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? For now, assumed Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
    Typically, if you increase the length of a video clip, you will create slow motion. If you decrease the length of a video clip, you will create fast motion effect.
    You can right click the clip on the Timeline, select Time Stretch, and use the Time Stretch dialog's settings to change the video duration.
    See the Adobe document/section on Set Duration of Clip
    Adobe Premiere Elements 11 * Changing clip speed and duration

    Add On...As an aside, if you have not done so already, please update 12 to 12.1 Update, using an open project's Help Menu/Update.

  • Fcx4 bin clips are not appearing in the viewer after clicking on them.

    fcx4 bin clips are not appearing in the viewer after clicking on them , i need help getting them to appear in the viewer.

    I have the same issue. I am using apex.oracle.com for some test applications, but for last couple of weeks when I login and click the "Application builder" I could not see my applications there (around 4-5 of them)! It says No applications found.
    Neither I have any application groups setup nor do any criteria given in "Application" search field under "Application builder".
    The only way I could access some, if not all, of my applications is to pull it from the link under the context box "Recent" (which you can see in the right hand side of the "Application builder" page.)
    Any help is greatly appreciated. This issue is not a show stopper as I could still pull out my critical applications from the recent link, but its definitely a worrisome issue.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi F. Carl
    The clip is intact and it has video and audio.
    I have worked on it before and all was fine until I lost the work when it got frozen!
    The issue is:
    I have a (MOV.) ready clip that I wanted to edit a bit, hence I have imported the clip (import media) and whenever I try to work on it, the black screen prohibits me from doing anything.
    Any ideas please ... It's really strange !

    When watching full screen video in firefox the picture freezes and the audio continues streaming. I had at first thought this was limited to netflix but now see the same problem when viewing flash video sites. Once the picture freezes the computer has to be rebooted. This only happens in firefox. Explorer streams perfectly in fullscreen. The problem began after updating to firefox 3.6 as I had no problems prior to that.
