Clips missing/red

I've got a problem for which I cannot seem to find an answer.  I have a project, created in iMovie 11, where everything except transitions & titles has suddenly come up missing.  Where each video clip appeared, it is now a black box same size as the video clip.  The bottom (where the audio of the video clip is shown) is now red.  All three songs I was using are also red.  There is the yellow triangle with an exclamation point now showing on the timeline.  I'm pretty panic stricken at this point.  Any ideas how to get my video clips back?

Tom's suggestion should solve your problem.
Just select the problematic clips, and go to File->Import->Reimport from Camera or Archive

Video played with Quicktime doesnt have the missing red channel.
When trying to playback video,in aperture, it plays with missing frames, missing pixels and the crashes entire computer. My computer is a Mac Pro desktop with 24 gb memory with 3.33 ghz 6-core processor running Version 10.9.2 and Aperture 3.5.1
    Any suggestions on my problem?

Never had anything before crash the whole system since OS8 or so.
Back up your system, without deleting older backups - just in case; that looks like a possible system trouble.
Also they some have been in Aperture for a while and they used to be OK.
Do the videos play in QuickTime Player or any other software, if you export or reveal the originals?
Can you play your videos, when signed into another user account?

  • Source clips missing?

so i was going to upload a video to youtube the day after i had deleted a bunch of old files. some of these files contained clips i was using for my video. i turned on my computer and went to upload the video. instead of the upper right hand box of Imovie showing my video it said "SOURCE CLIPS MISSING" in white letters.
Please help me i will be extremely disappointed if all that work was for nothing

You need the source clips if you want to render the movie again.
If you have Shared a copy of the movie somewhere, you could upload that copy to YouTube. Did you share to iTunes, or to the Media Browser, or Export to QuickTime before destroying your video?

  • DVD Import - Clips Missing

I recently had a bunch of home videos converted from VHS to DVD. I am now trying to import the DVD into iMovie. I created a new disk image and went into iMovie to import the clips. When the import screen popped up showing the different chapters, there is about 25 minutes worth of clips missing. The entire movie on DVD is 1hr 58mins but only 1hr 35mins worth of clips show up when I import into iMovie. What do I need to do to get the remaining video into iMovie? I've tried on 3 different macs and have had no success.

  • Accidentally split 2 events, now "source clip missing" in my project, HELP!

Ok, so I've been working for weeks on a project, and I accidentally split an event into 2 events. Dumb I know, but I was trying to split a single clip. Anyway, it split the event and made 2 new events. I tried to "undo" but for some reason it didn't work. Now alot of the clips say "source clip missing". I looked in the trash and found my missing original event folder, but it's empty cos all the videos are still in the event, but under the 2 new events. I tried to put the folder back into imovie, I re-merged the 2 split events and renamed it the original name (after someone on a forum suggested this) and nothing works. I am freaking out! It is crazy cos all the video is still there (at least I think it is). Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Thank You Sameer. It worked. Now I can close this issue.

Irregardless of the Premiere Elements version...
I do not believe you are doing anything wrong. I have not found it possible to copy a Timeline clip to which Time Remapping has been applied and use Paste Effects and Adjustments to other selected clips on the Timeline to achieve the same fast or slow motion for more than one clip at a time. For one thing the duration of the Time Remapped clip is different than those that have not gone through Time Remapping.
And, you cannot select more than 1 clip at a time to be taken into the Time Remapping workspace.
Also, special considerations need to exist for Pan and Zoom Tool for its pan and zoom effect applied to more than one photo at a time.

I will think about this some more. But, at this moment, it appear to be it is what it is.

  • FC Events & Projects folders on external HD, and some clips missing.

    Hello there,
Searched for an answer, but nothing seems to be exactly my experience.
To help my MBP perform better, I moved my FCP X "events" & "projects" folders to an external LaCie HD. Folks here say they should be at the "root". Unsure how to check that, but I do know they are at the lowest level of folder on the drive, with no other folders above them.
Most clips show up in all the projects when FCP X is opened. But some don't; modifying event references with Inspector leads to the event not showing up at all, so I can't even move it to the top.
Then tried to "import from camera" and open the LaCie drive as an archive. But when clicking on the proper event folder, the message appears, ""Intrvw-WendyEllen_20Jun11" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."
Original media files on HD are all still there from when I first imported into FCP X. Now the same files are duplicated in the FCP X "events" folder, which also got moved to the external HD. Choosing either folder gets the same message.
According to the manual, the yellow alert triangle showing in the timeline means the event is missing.
<complaint> FCP X isn't very intuitive or user friendly on directing it to see the proper files. If something is missing, why can't I just pick where FCP should look for those files? Why can't I recreate a new path to those files, of the original one was broken? I'm not keen on the Events & Projects folders _having_ to be _set in stone_ on the MBP's harddrive. Where those files lie should be a choice.</complaint>
    My system is 2.2GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM w/ Mac OS X 10.6.8.
Please let me know what I'm missing that FCP can no longer find the proper files. I'm sure it's something super easy, too obvious to figure out. In fact, if there's a way to ditch the "events' folder altogether & just have FCP X pull/render from the external HD files all the time, I'd love to learn that solution.
    Thanks in advance!

You are correct about root ... no other folders above the FCP X folders is the way it's supposed to be.  I noticed that FCP X can get confused if you first opened up or created a project with the Final Cut Pro folders on your system drive then you try to make a copy of them on an external drive.  That is what I did at first also.  I would recommend moving your system drive Final Cut Pro X folders to a safe backup drive such as usb, etc then ejecting that drive.  Make sure they no longer exist on the system drive.  Then go to your external drive where you first copied them to and go into the Final Cut Projects folder. Then go into a folder that has the name of your project, or if you created "Folders" in FCP X to put your projects in then go into the folder that has the name of the folder you created within FCP X.  Within one of those will be a folder named after your project name you had assigned it in FCP X.  Inside that will be a file called CurrentVersion.fcpproject. Double click on that file, and Final Cut Project X will open with that project. In your Project Library window on the lower half of the display, over against the left you will see Macintosh HD, or whatever your system drive is called.  Under that will be the name of your external drive. Indented to the right slightly under your external drive will be the name of the project you have just loaded.  Just keep working in that one from now on without moving the old FCP X folders backing onto the system drive.  If you get some clips that are red meaning that FCP X can no longer find them, copy them from your original system drive or the Final Cut Events folder to the event name you had placed them in when you imported them into your project.  You can also simply find them and re-import them into FCP X and be done with it.  It has been my observation that you do not want to have two Final Cut Project or Events (or any of the other) FCP X folders on two drives that are active at the same time.  Best practice is to leave them off your system drive and put them on an external Firewire drive.  If you need to make a backup of them periodically, put a usb drive or another Firewire drive on your system WITHOUT GOING INTO FINAL CUT PRO X, and use Finder to simply copy the folders to the other drives as a backup ... then eject the backups.  You can then continue working in FCP X.  Sounds detailed, but the bottom line is FCP X does not seem to like two FCP X file systems on two attached drives at the same time.  At least that's the way it has seemed in my experience.  Hope this helps.

  • Mottion clips are red boxed/workflow

    Hello Color users!
So first let me say I browsed the past forums and I didn't see a thread related to my question, but if this has already been answered, I apologize for missing it.
I'm not a complete newbie when it comes to Color, but I obviously am no pro. LOL
So here is the background. I am at the end of a project and I am color correcting, and I find that when I send my sequence to Color that footage that was sent to Motion shows up as a red x. I tried relinking it to the Motion file from within Color and that doesn't work. I know that the quick (not really though) fix would be to export the Motion project as a Quicktime movie and import that into my sequence in FC and then sending to Color, but that would disrupt the workflow I was hoping to establish, plus it slows me down.
So this question is as much about a better workflow as much as a way to get those red x'ed clips to show up in Color.
*Is there a way to get Color to recognize the clips from my FC sequence that are from Motion?*
I notice that sending thing to Motion really limits the things you can do without going back to Motion. *For example*-I had notice some shaky footage and wanted to use Smooth Cam filter to do a quick and dirty fix. It worked fine on the first clip, because it was just an ordinary clip. The second clip was footage that was sent to Motion, and it wouldn't take the filter. Ended up using the Stabilization action in Motion, but it was just so much more work and time to fix a simple thing.
I might have to rethink about when I send stuff to Motion.
    *Any thoughts on this people?*
I'm surprised Apple just didn't integrate this a little more.
    Below is my workflow:
1.Import footage to Final Cut, and do rough cuts, and final edits with transitions.
    2. Send some footage to Motion, add effects.( at which point I lose transitions so I have to redo them, and in some cases set them up back in Motion)
    3. Back in FC with some footage now replaced with the Motion project, send sequence to Soundtrack, to add music and sound effects to the effects created in Motion, and do other sound related things.
    4. Back in FC add titles, credits and subtitles (which also turns to red x, but not a big deal)
    5. Send to Color.
    6. If I could get past #5 it would be a simple matter of exporting using Compressor and celebrating.
Should I bump Motion closer to the end? and go to Soundtrack to add the sound effects?
    Thanks in advance!

Well to answer #1. I've done color correction in the past using the built in features in FC, but since Color was suppose to be this new great way to color correct I wanted to give it a chance. I've been to school for this stuff and after a few demos was glad I wasn't lost in how to use it.
I just assumed since Color was part of the the whole Final Cut package that all the programs would communicate and work together.
It funny that Apple didn't give Color the ability to support and recognize Motion files. Especially since people may be using the "send to Motion" feature in FC to do motion graphics.
As for question #2- I only understand part of what you are asking. I understand the point of the different codecs, and their purpose, but I have no way of memorizing them all. I just familiarize with a few core that I use on a regular
basis and keep my eye out for new ones.
I did notice that when you are done in Color and you "send to Final Cut" you get a whole new sequence with the retained transitions, filters, and audio.
Is this what you mean by all new media?
As far as your Apple integration comment look in the above response for what I was thinking.
Really the only thing that bugs me about the new Final Cut package is that when you use the "send to" feature to send footage to Motion, your original footage gets replaced by the Motion project, and once you do that (and I think this would affect any body's workflow, not just the one I proposed) their are many things you can't do, without going back to do it in Motion. And doing it in Motion might not be the best choice.
It would be nice if your original clips sent to Motion came back, in FC with just the added effects from Motion.

  • STRANGE: single clip missing in export! (but still in the timeline)

Strangest thing: I exported a project... and a SINGLE clip is missing. BUT... the "key" over that clip shows up (over "black.") Hmmm... So I went back to the timeline... the clip is STILL THERE! So, I re-rendered, exported again... SAME THING. That one darned clip goes "black" w/ the key over it. Any suggestions?

NOTE: Had no problem exporting this same project before.
1.) even clip info = 720 x 480 / 29.97 fps (same as ALL clips throughout entire project)
    2.) Timeline info = 720 x 480 DV Anamorphic 29.97
3.) Here's the clip in the timeline. (see image, it's the gentleman in the labcoat) Amazingly, in the export the "keys" appear over black. Just this ONE clip is missing--audio and video. No other clips are affected.
4.) Finally, here is how I am exporting the project: (see image)

  • Sequence clip with  red line above

I imported several clips from a Nikon D300s camera into PP, and put on a sequence timeline.  4 show the yellow line above, indicating matching settings, but 2 show red lines, and I don't know what is different.  All were done at the same time, and shouldn't have any different settings, to not match like the others.  What could be the reason?

Originally, I created the sequence by matching the camera settings, and then imported all the video clips.  that's why I don't know why 4 would have yellow lines and 2 red, since they were all from the same source camera and day.  All had been put on one sequence.
After finding I could have separate sequences within a project, today, I dragged the original, untrimmed AVI files to the new sequence box so they would match for sure, and then I copied and pasted the same (but trimmed) file to this sequence, so each of the 6 has its own sequence.  Still the 2 have the red line.  I didn't find any effects to clear either.

  • All clips missing after import from camcorder!

All clips are missing after import from camcorder - Canon ZR20.  For some tapes all clips are there, for others there are none.  All the files are there in the finder, but I don't know how to have them show up in Final Cut Pro X.
    Any suggestions?

Ok - this is frustrating.  I have been importing my old miniDV tapes again into FCPX as I wasn't able to transfer all of these projects from iMovie - don't get me started...  After importing about 7 of the tapes the first 3 came in fine, but the last 4 didn't have any clips as I said in my original posting.  Now after restarting FCPX a couple of times all of a sudden the clips are all coming in!  Strange!  Guess I'm OK now.

  • Audio offline in Timeline ONLY; Clips appear red (CS6)

    Very, very, very frustrating issue.
I have a cut of a scene where the audio has all mysteriously gone offline (the clips in the timeline have turned red, rather than green). No audio plays back. Yet when I select "Reveal in Project", it finds the associated audio file. That audio file plays fine in the Source Monitor, fully online, waveforms, plays back fine. I can select "Edit Original" in the timeline and the original file will open up in iTunes and play fine. I put the file from the Project window offline and reconnected, yet the clip in the timeline doesn't change at all. It is connected, but doesn't act like it. Checking the timeline clip's properties, it says "Online". But it's not.
The most frustrating thing is that ONE of the shots has online audio that plays back. This is the same audio file as some of the other shots that register as offline!!!!!!!! It's absurd.
Earlier cuts, using the exact same audio files are all online, all work fine.
I have deleted my media cache, went back to an earlier auto-save, no luck. When I double-click the clip in the timeline, it opens a blank audio preview in the Source monitor, no waveforms but it does have my In/Out points. I tried copying the timecode and applying it to the ONLINE version of the file from the Project panel, but the timecode was bizarrely different and didn't match so I can't even use the "Replace with Clip" command. It's insane.
Any insight or help on this issue would be much appreciated. I've already had to go about re-adding clips manually, but hopefully for next time I can have an easier solution...

A bit same pb happen to me. The cut was OK I close it and a few days after open the project and the sound was in RED. Also all the rush were offline.
My rush were in  : AVCHD 1080p - Pixels carrés
    Base de temps : 25,00 i/s
My solution is to copy in the same directory the rush (for exemple 00002.MTS  become 00002_2.MTS) and to reconnect in Premiere the rush 00002.MTS with 00002_2.MTS. (don't know if I am clear !).
This solves the problem for me.
Rq : if I clear the original file (00002.MTS) an rename the 00002_2.MTS in 00002.MTS the error is back ! Stange !

  • Is it possible to show clips as Red when offline?

Does anyone know if it is possible to show clips in the timeline as Red when they are offline? Much like the way Avid does.
I know that in the browser it marks the clips as being offline, but In a large complicated project with lots of Bins it's not practical to go through and look at every clip. And I find the online green and offline grayed out kind of green as difficult to notice at a glance on the timeline.
Is there a way to change it or have I just got to get used to it?

This may or may not help, depending on what you are wanting. Find the offline clip(s) in your Browser, select it/them, then press OptionCommand3 (on the top row of numbers). Assuming you have not changed your key combinations, this will change the offline clip names to red in your sequence. You can choose between 2-6 for different colors. The clips will still be white, but have the text highlighted in your chosen color.

  • Source Clips Missing After Moving Them

I found a few threads about this but I didn't find a solution that worked for me so I thought I ask again.
I just bought a new HD with Firewire 800. I moved all my events to it using iMovie '09 by holding the command key and "moving" them. Now my 20+ projects are all missing their source clips.
How can I help iMovie to find where the clips have been moved to?
    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you are doing the Command-Drag from within iMovie?
You should see a small icon for your external drive in the Event Library List. Drag your Event from its place in the Event Library List for the internal drive to this icon while holding the command key.
You can also find detailed instructions for this in iMovie Help.
