Clips not displaying in timeline

I've been having a nightmare of a time editing a project because my clips are randomly not displaying in my sequence timeline.  The project recognizes them as being there and will play them when I preview, but some clips aren't represented graphically.  This makes it nearly impossible to edit, because I'm constantly dropping new clips over existing ones on accident.  In this image, inbetween the two cross dissolves, there should be a clip.  I can only see it if I zoom in to a level that makes editing very difficult.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  My clips are all AVCHD, by the way.

Yes, I'm sure the clips aren't on a track I've scrolled out of view.  As I said, when I zoom in on the timeline, I can see that there is a clip in the gap, at least in the example I posted above.  Here is a screenshot of my entire timeline after making some changes.
Where the playhead is, there should be a clip on track 1.  What does the 'V' at the far left of the track indicate?  Because it seems like maybe I've enabled some kind of overlapping video mode.  I'm a new convert to Premiere from Final Cut, so I'm not very comfortable with this yet.  I was able to fix the problem by deleting the two clip fragments to the left of the playhead.  When I deleted one, the other clip fragment, to the left of the first one, stretched out to fill the gap.  I haven't had the problem since, but I'd still like to know what was going on.  Seemed like a bug to me, but the 'V' also went away after I deleted the clips, so I'm wondering if maybe I had entered some kind of mode that I wasn't aware of.

  • PreE V8: Clips not displaying in project view

I have a clip in the my timeline/sceneline that is not displaying in Project view. It also does not have the "P" in the bottom corner of the thumbnail in Organizer view. Why isn't the clip considered part of the project?

I have been shooting in XP+ mode and have been for the past year.
I haven't tried using the Premier Elements Get Media function. I usually import both still images from one camera and the video from this camera at the same time into the same Photoshop album and use Organizer. Also there are some training videos and books that tell you to use Organizer.
I tried importing a video file using the Get Media function and was able to use the set in/out points and have them saved correctly.
Then in the project that I am working on I took one of video files that I imported through the Organizer and deleted it from the catalog. Then I imported it using the Get Media function and put it in the album with the other files. Then I used Preview to set in/out points. Those points were saved correctly.
So know I will delete all the remaining video files from the catalog that I haven't yet used in my project and then remote them through Premiere's Get Media.
So it appears that as you thought, I need to use Get Media to import video files. But that is not emphasized in any documentation. I think there should be a warning when importing video files in Organizer saying that if you intend to use Premier Elements to edit them that they should be imported via that product.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Clips not moving in timeline

I noticed this recently with CS5.5 as well but now in CS6 and i can't figure out what is going on.
I have a timeline with clips.  I created the timeline form scratch and added a few clips.  Nothing earth shattering.  I moved them all around and then left for a while.  When i came back, the clips in the timeline were locked in position.  I can't move them.  The tracks are not locked, the clips are enabled, when i try and drag them, they just flash but do nothing.
Now in CS5.5 if i waited long enough, then would eventually free back up.  I haven't waited that long in CS6.  Does anyone have any idea what would cause this?
I have closed Premiere and reopened and that didn't help
I tried creating a new sequence and can't drag anything into it.  Its as if all dragging was diabled.  I am however able to move them with the keyboard.    I am also able to add to the timeline using the , and . keys.  Just no dragging.
I can select them and lasso them but can't move them.  it is the strangest thing

I've never seen this behavior before.
If I had to guess, I'd say something was wrong with your graphics driver.

  • Audio Waveforms (On Certain Clips Only) Not Displaying

Long time forum-lurker, first time poster.
Here's the situation: The nighttime assistant editor created a sequence of B-roll clips for an editor. On both the editor's and the assistant editor's computer, the audio waveforms for these clips are not displaying correctly. Specifically, the symptoms (on both computers) are:
    - Waveforms do not appear in timeline unless zoomed in to maximum or second-to-maximum zoom. When zoomed out farther than that, the "X"es appear.
    - When viewing the clip in the viewer's audio tab, either by double-clicking the sequence clip or match-framing from the sequence, the waveforms do not appear at all until I zoom in to near maximum level. When zooming out after that, the remnants of the zoomed-in waveforms remain on the screen.
    - The waveforms of other clips display correctly.
I have tried deleting the waveform cache on both computers, changing the location of the waveform cache and restarting, and deleting the preferences on the editor's computer. I have not tried recreating the sequence from the original clips because the daytime assistant editor has more sequences to create and needs to use her computer.
If anyone can help me, that would be great.
    Here are the specs:
Assistant Editor's Computer: eMac running Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 and Mac OS 10.4.something (I haven't gotten a chance to run software update).
Editor's Computer: Dual Processor Power Mac G5 running Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and Mac OS 10.4.8.
Both computers are sharing the same media which is located on our SAN. The Editor's computer (along with two other G5-based editing systems) is connected via FibreChannel. The Assistant Editor's computer (along with a whole bunch of other computers) is connected through our server, which serves the SAN drives as network volumes. Assistant editors create sequences on the eMac and upload the project file to the server, where they are available for the editors to download.

Don't know what's going on, but tell us the format of
    the audio.
It's the audio track from a video clip. All video on this project is DV NTSC. The audio is 48.0 Khz, 16 bit, 2 mono channels.
    Also, try copying
one audio clip to a local drive and see if the
    problem persists.
Copied one of the offending clips onto the desktop. Dragged it into the project. Opened it in the viewer and hit the Audio tab. Whaddya know, the waveform appeared.
I cut a chunk of it into the sequence that is full of clips whose waveforms don't work and turned on "show audio waveforms". Waited for a long time and I still just got the Xes unless I zoomed in really close to the new sequence clip.
But then I cut a chunk of the newly copied clip into a brand new sequence, turned on audio waveforms in the timeline, and they showed up.
I don't know if any of this will help to solve my problem, but hopefully it will give someone an idea. I've got an editor who says he's used to editing from waveforms and needs the ability to see them. (Unfortunately, copying media to local drives is not a viable workaround. The media must stay on the SAN.)

  • Timeline edits not displaying in Program Monitor

My issue is when trimming a clip in my sequence timeline, I'm no longer seeing the clip displayed in the Program Monitor as I attempt to edit either by keyboard shortcut or with the move Tool. (it remains black throughout)
Is there a simple setting I changed that disabled this? I've tried resetting the workspace to default, but I'm unable to view clips I'm trimming in any monitor in realtime, only after making changes.
Also - When I scrub through the clips will play, just not when trimming.
Does anyone know the solution to this please?

There's no user adjustment for this, it normally just happens.

  • Is there a way to display log notes in the timeline?

    Hi All,
Is there a way to display log notes in the timeline?
My assistant has put all the vital information into the log notes instead of the name column...not a biggie but just so used to seeing a description on the timeline rather than a tape number.
    Thanks,
    Susan.

    Hi G,
Thanks! But I want to display the info permanently in the timeline. Like ---- sorry ---- in the Avid, I can change the timeline to be blank or display other info like mediafile names, etc, etc. I've looked in the Sequence Settings and it looks like I can only change the clip display in the TL to be with frames or without frames. Any help would be greatly appreciate...thanks!
    Cheers,
    Susan.

  • CC 2014 not displaying waveforms on timeline or viewer

Having reluctantly upgraded to PP CC 2014 I am noticing that the waveforms of .R3D files do not display properly in the timeline or the viewer. Sometimes the waveforms are displayed correctly, sometimes not. There is inconsistency even within the same timeline.
Is there a new setting that needs to be enabled here or is this another one of those dreadful Adobe bugs we're getting so used to?
    Running on Mac Pro 2013 - 2.7 GHz 12-core 64 GB RAM OSX 10.9.4

    Hi Xebedie,
Did you import via the Media Browser or File > Import? Try the Media Browser.
    Thanks,

I am in the process of preparing to test a sample from your brand and model camera in my Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I will have the results probably tomorrow morning.
For now I just want to put you through the drill that I do for anyone who says he/she is using Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
    1. Are you working from the 8.0/8.0.1 Update of the program?
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4653
    2. Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalyzer features turned OFF.
For Background Rendering option. See Edit Menu/Preferences/General.
For AutoAnalyzer option. Click on Organizer in the row below the blue active Organize header in order to open the Elements Organizer. In the Elements Organizer workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options and disable all the AutoAnalzyer options. To return to the Premiere Elements workspace from the Elements Organizer workspace, in the Elements Organizer workspace, go to File Menu/Exit.
Is your computer optimized in spite of the fact that  you have a high end laptop? I presumed so but always go to verify, no pile ups of preview files, conformed video and audio files et al.
Looking at the properties of your source media, I see:
    video compression = MPEG1
    audio compression = MPEG-Layer1 (.mp2)
    Frame Size = 640 x 480 (4:3)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio = 1.0
Frame Rate = 30 progressive frames per second
With properties like those you are sure to get a red line over that content since there is no project preset with that description.
But, your choice of the default NTSC DV Standard would have been mine also.
I am heading to try to get a quick look at the behavior of the sample video here in my Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
    To be continued.

  • Captivate 4 shortens timeline - elements are not displayed right anymore

    Hi there,
I already searched the forum but couldn’t find an answer. Maybe someone of you can help me.
I have a weird problem with the timeline – in short: it changes.
I have some slides, based on imported Power Point slides. Within captivate I add some Audio (TTS), let appear images & textboxes simultaneously, add buttons etc.
Sometimes I extend the slide duration (for example when slide transition is set to automatically).
And now the problem that occurs: Captivate shortens the timeline – exactly to the length where the audio ends. Doing this causes that elements which are placed at the end of the slide are also shortened and not displayed right anymore.
This is shown in the following screenshot. On the left side of the cursor you can see an image element that normally should fade in directly after the audio ends and should stay for 4 seconds.
I couldn’t figure out when this happens. This means that I have to check every slide again to make sure that all elements are displayed right. Locking elements or the slide itself doesn't help.
Does anybody know why this happens and how to avoid this? I am using Captivate 4 and publish as an .exe or an .swf
Your help is appreciated. Thanks a lot!

    Hi Noel
If you click Edit > Preferences > Global > Defaults do you have the option Calculate caption timing enabled?
If so, that's likely your issue. Clear the option and your timing should stay put when you make edits.

  • I am really having a horrible time when trying to do our Church announcements in FCP X. When I try to take a clip from the event to the timeline my clips expanded and my timeline zoom level does not stay in the original place. Help

I am really having a horrible time when trying to do our Church announcements in FCP X. When I try to take a clip from the event to the timeline my clips expanded and my timeline zoom level does not stay in the original place it moves to the right and is max out which makes every clip that I bring to the timeline expanded.

What format etc. are the video clips and what were they shot on?

  • Exporting sequence, some clips do not match the timeline

              Hey guys,
I am exporting video to match sequence settings (MPEG).
For some reason, I have two clips that will just not show up int eh final output video. There is some video in the beginning that defaults to the start of that clip, not the selected portion that is in my timeline, and then an audio issue towards the end that is the same thing. It's perfect in my program monitor, but when I export it, I'm getting something else. Is this a wierd bug or glitch?
Edit: Exporting directly produces the results I was looking for . For some reason, it only happens when I use media encoder.
Edit a 2nd time. I lied, it worked once, the next time I encoded it the clip was wrong again. WTF premiere.
Edit a 3rd time, now the clips in my sequence changed. It's almost like a caching issue or something .... it's wierd, it's like some clips go back to the very beginning, ignoring the in/out points I set for them.

    Sounds like this:

  • OUTLOOK Does Not Display Attachement Paper Clip in Inbox

I have Outlook Home/Office/Bus 2013 and the paperclip does not display in the inbox SOME of the time. It's so unhelpful.
But sure enough, if I open, there are the attachments. This never happened before I had 2013. Help. (5-2-15)

What type of email account do you use?
What file type are the attachments? Embedded images usually don't have the attachment icon.

  • Video does not display when sending from Final Cut Pro to Motion

Suddenly, when sending an audio & video sequence to Motion, a new Motion file is created, and all my layers come in properly, but the video does not display.
The audio plays fine, and Motion clearly know that there are video tracks there, but it does not display them.
Additionally, when rendering the Motion file back in FCP, it turns in to black video.
I have previous sequences within the same project that were sent just fine, and are editable properly, but any new ones I try to create just come out black.
    Help, please?

Do you have Motion mistakenly set to render out with an Alpha channel?
Double click your Motion clip in the Timeline. Go to Modify > Composite Mode in the menu bar and set the Alpha to "None/Ignore".

  • Waveform Not Displaying

The audio waveform is not displaying on the timeline. I have it turned on with optapplew. I dumped all my waveform cache. It even seems like the source video clips do not have it.
How can I tell FCP to redraw all waveform? OR what is the fix?

    Hi Andy,
it's a slow day at work, the Avid is crashing constantly so we have to shut off the RAID, and what else is there to do for me, lonely in my editing suite, with all the apps but no footage.....
So there you have it. I'm frustrated. All there is to it.
Thanks though, at least someone thinks I'm doing a good job.

  • Show clip marker names in Timeline

Not sure if this is possible but, does anyone know a way of displaying clip marker names in the timeline? Even if I could get them to show up in the canvas like timeline markers do, that would be great, but actually right next to the marker on the timeline would be ideal.

    Did I get you right?
I think we're still on different wavelengths. Using this screenshot as a reference:
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/19589/FCP%20Markers.png
The playhead is currently parked on Marker 4, which happens to be a Timeline marker (Aqua). Looking in the Canvas, there are 2 other markers in this sequence, one before marker 4, and one more after. There is also one marker on this screen, it's embedded in the clip (Red).
Noting that there are no clips selected in the timeline, at this point, if I were to press Option M, the playhead would jump to the previous timeline marker (Aqua).
However, if I were to select the "353 SA-Tag" clip, with the playhead in its current location, then press Option M, then the playhead would jump to the clip marker (Red). But even then, it's name and information wouldn't be displayed in the Canvas.
You've got me thinking too hard tonight!!
