Clips out of synch until I pause them?

I have a new iMac (specs in my profile) that has a strange issue.  When I start playing a clip it's out of synch.  If I pause the playback and then start it again, it's back in synch.
This happens every time.  I thought it might be a hard disc going to sleep but I have it set not to.
This happens whenever I've stopped playing back for a couple of minutes.  SOMETHING'S going to sleep, I just don't know what.
btw, I have the app on the internal SSD and the media on the internal hard disc.

Jennifer, the only way we can have any chance to successfully troubleshoot problems remotely is if you approach this in a systematic manner.  If you don't understand any of the questions, let us know.  StudioX asked what the signal path is.    go to view:  audio playback to see what the setting is.
You might try resetting your fcp preferences:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2491
Do you have any 3rd party utilities installed on your system, in particular anything that might have an impact on audio?  Do you have any 3rd party fcp or audio plug ins installed on your system?
You might try creating a new account and see if that makes a difference:

  • Cs3-cs4 upgrade clips out of synch

Working on a cs3 PPro project, going very well!  Updated to SC4 to take advantage of its improved 3D modeling capabilities.  However I note that now my sc3 project, once set up in cs4 is now out of synch.  Edits aren't where I placed them - I assumed you could transfer cs3 to cs 4 no problems.

Normally, CS3 Projects do translate to CS4 Projects well. General wisdom is to complete in the version that was used to start, but I see your point on wanting to move up here.
Maybe give the specifics of this Project and its Assets, as there could be something there.
Also, did you Open the CS3 Project into CS4, or did you Import it. Might want to try the other way, depending on what you did.
    Good luck,

  • The sound on all(!) my captured clips isn't audible until i pan them. help!

Hi all, I'm fairly new to FCP.
I have captured hours of HDV documentary footage, and used the Easy Setup HDV presets to do it. This captures sound as 'channel grouped' rather than stereo pair.
The sound I recorded in the field was generally from a single stereo mic. I'm now going through the bins of clips, and giving them names... the trouble is that the audio on every clip isn't audible when I play them. The weird thing is that if I pan the 2 mono channels for each clip to full left and right, then the sound returns and is fine. I thought I'd have to do it on the timeline, by modifying every clip i used to be 'Stereo Pair', but I've worked out I can manually pan the clips in the bin using the audio mixer tool.
The trouble is, I have a LOT of clips, and was wondering if there was a clever way of sorting out this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thomas
(ps. the sound for the clips comes out fine when I play them directly just using quicktime outside of FCP).

Hi all, I'm fairly new to FCP.< </div>
Welcome to the family, we all started someplace. But you have committed yourself to a big project without testing your workflow before jumping.
First piece of advice: Locate your tapes, you are probably going to recapture everything.
The sound I recorded in the field was generally from a single stereo mic. I < </div>
"Generally?" What about the exceptions? If you have shot with different audio settings, you cannot use the same preset for all of tapes.
What you have not determined is whether or not the sound exists in your captured media. Do the VU meters show audio data in all tracks? If so, you've got one kind of problem and some of the HDV guys can help you. If not, you have a different kind of problem and you'll want to gather your tapes for a marathon recapture session.

  • Clips out of synch on timeline

I've been editing a film for several months now, and frequently when I open it up I find that the clips on my timeline are all discombobulated. They're moved to different spots, the lengths are all screwed up, and video and audio tracks are often separated and quite far apart. I know I didn't do any of these crazy things. Anybody else ever encounter this problem? It's unbelievably frustrating, especially when I have to go back through THE ENTIRE PROJECT and reset everything.

Um...yes, I'm sure. I'm the only one here. And this is not a joke or anything, it's really happening, and it's driving me insane. If it happens again I really might have a nervous breakdown. Okay, maybe not really, but I'll be thoroughly aggravated.
    Anybody have any ideas?

  • Movie Clips Actions Get Out Of Synch With Audio

My movie is five about minutes long with audio and an offscreen timeline move clip containing action script to control other movie clips or play the root directory.   After about a minute or so, movie clips get out-of-synch with the audio, apparently its getting bogged down.
My swf file doesn't seem that big, about 2.2MB and my move clips aren't that complex, although up to three levels deep.
My version is Flash 8 Professional and my laptop was on the high end about 18 months ago.
Am I missing something or expecting too much from Flash?
    Thanks,

  • Address Book on iMac is out of synch with Contacts on iPod Touch. How do I get them in synch (through iCloud/iTunes)?

I'm confused about the different versions of Address Book on iMac. I set up iTunes to synch Address Book with my iPod Touch 5th Gen. through iCloud. Somehow they got out of synch.
There are three sections or versions of Address Book on my iMac:  (1) "All Contacts," (2) "On My Mac: All on My Mac" and (3) "iCloud: All iCloud."
"All Contacts" seems to combine the last two. Unfortunately, contacts that got added to "On My Mac" are NOT being synched to iCloud and to my iPod.
What can I do to get them in synch and how can I avoid this in the future?

    On your iPod...
There are settings in the Contacts apps if you tap "groups".    Check all.
And in settings, check in iCloud to see that all contacts are switched to on in all accounts.

  • Clip audio and video playback out of synch

I've noticed that everything in FCP X is slightly out of synch. Just enough to be noticeable. I thought it might have been the time taken for the sound to travel the length of the church (recording from a camera mic) but I shot some green screen yesterday and even that is out.
The same hardware was used ok with FCE-4 - the Audio i/f is FW-400 and on same bus as FW drives.

Hey Andy,  (cue whistling theme music)
Thanks for your informed opinion. Interesting that Apple released FCPX in it's current state rather than wait for the release of Lion. Seems like the core technologies now bundled with the app would make a significant difference running natively.
I'm an audio guy... the next release of Logic Audio is going to be version X, I'm just hoping it's not going to be Garageband Pro.
The reason I was expressing doubts about an OS upgrade making a noticeable difference is.... I heard the same thing about Snow Leopard. As it stands now I have two clients trying to run the latest version of Logic Pro on the current release of SL (10.6.8), the results are not good, the Logic Pro forum has many users unable to get Logic to even boot without crashing.. I'm waiting to hear from support. It seems like the OS is ahead of app development and things are breaking.

  • Video out of synch with audio

Sometimes when I use my camera the audio is out of synch with the video.
This has happened when I use the 8mm apps as well.
Is there a way to fix this or make it not happen at all?

    Sorry that didn't help, Jon.
This kbase search makes me wonder if perhaps you have some kind of conflict with something you are doing in Logic or some other AV Pro App?
If you can rule that out, too, somebody else might have suggestions. It may help them to know if you have exactly the same problem when you try to record movie clips with some other application.

  • Imovie 5.0.2, Stuttering playback and out of synch audio with visual.

I have edited a movie on Imovie HD 5.0.2, it is about 50 mins long. When I came to record back onto my Sony DCR-HC42E camcorder (I don't have a combo drive on my Imac) the playback is not acceptable. It stutters, freezes and after a while the audio becomes out of synch with the visual. The playback is generally not smooth enough either. I have updated to the latest operating system. I have chosen standard quality playback from the preferences option and am very frustrated at the poor results.
I have 20 GB of space left on the computer.
If anyone can suggest a solution I would be most grateful.
    Mark
    1 GHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   256 MB DDR SDRAM

Mark, if your Mac has just 256MB RAM it's possible adding more RAM will improve playback and your export to the camera. I wouldn't bet on it, but it's certainly worth a try. (You need more RAM anyway, so it's a good idea nevertheless.)
There may be another way to successfully export your project to your camera. Even projects that "stutter" when played in iMovie often export correctly to QuickTime. (The export to QT is not time sensitive, unlike the export to the camera.) You should be able to export your project to a Full Quality DV movie, one of iMovie's built-in export options. Exporting to QuickTime "flattens" the movie, making it easier to play.
You would then import THAT movie to a new iMovie project. That project will probably export successfully to the camera.
You may want to test this by exporting the first few minutes of the project. (To export a group of clips instead of the entire project, select them and use the checkbox button "Share selected clips only" that you'll see in the export dialog.)
You're running low on disk space, so here's a trick to avoid iMovie having to make yet ANOTHER copy of the Full Quality movie when importing it. The movie will be about 12GB; it won't be small.
Instead of importing the Full Quality movie to a new project, create the new iMovie project, Quit iMovie, open the project package (Control-click on the project icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu) then drop the Full Quality movie into the Media folder. Re-open the project. The Full Quality movie appear in the iMovie trash. Open the Trash window and drag the clip to the Timeline. Save, then export to your camera.

  • Mp4 Audio out of synch

    Hi there
I recorded some video recently for a small project and saved in MP4 format (using a Panasonic HC-V510 HD camcorder).
I've come to edit the material today and noticed that all of the files are out of synch, even though video/audio were all recorded together on the camcorder and imported as MP4 files straight into Premiere Pro - hence synch should be maintained.
I've read elsewhere this could be a CODEC or Ecoding issue by the camcorder is not sophisticated enough to have allowed any manual intervention of any of these settings.
    So puzzled by:
    1) what would cause the files to be out of synch
    2) how to get them back in synch automatically
Many thanks for any help and advice.
    Regards
    Alan.

I had similar problems, using my ne Galaxy S4mini, recording in 1920x1080p30, working on Py Win7-64, Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6.0.5:
when copied from SD Card/S4mini to PC in Win7-64
playback with win media works fine, video and audio are in sinc
also using apple Quicktime player, works fine,
but imported in Adobe Premiere pro CS 6.0.5.

  • Audio out of synch

I've read through pages of discussion and none of them quite hit the mark with my problem. Granted I have old technology, but still it should work. The problem: on some imports into Adobe Premiere 6.5 using an analog capture card Pinnacle 500 Plus 4.5 using composite connections from an 8mm Sony tape camcorder using TDK premium tape (usually importing a straight two hours worth for editing), when playing the .AVI file on the timeline, gradually the audio becomes out of sync, and obviously more so towards the end of the two hours (so nudging the audio track would be a continuous exercise in futility). What is making this happen? It doesn't happen for all imports from the same camera and the same quality tape. There are no dropped frames reported. If I re-import the video, it still happens. Yet playing the camcorder directly to TV, the video and audio are fine.
Computer: 4 gigs of RAM, 160 gig ATA storage drive.

    A couple of things:
1.) this is the Premiere Elements forum, and you want the Pr 2.0 & Earlier forum.
2.) however, let me see if I can help. Are you able to use Pr 6.5 to actually Capture from the Pinnacle?
3.) as I doubt that you are, what software are you using for the Capture? Most importantly, what format/CODEC does it Capture to?
4.) OOS is very common with capture cards, and much less so with A-D bridges, like the Canopus 110, or 300
5.) OOS issues are common, but most often are constant, rather than drifting. The first is easy (as you note) with just some nudging. This ARTICLE covers the basic approach to that. For drifting OOS, one has to formulate a plan of attack, and the first step is to survey the entire Clip very closely. With drifting OOS, one usually has a certain amout of time, where the OOS has either not occurred, or is unnoticable. Cut the Clip here with the Razor. Focus on the next section and try to find the point that the drifting OOS has changed more enough to notice. Cut the Clip, and address what is now Clip 2 in your lineup, as you would with non-drifting OOS. Continue this process for the entire Duration, creating separate Clips from the remainder, until you have gotten it handled, as well as possible.
This is tedious, and horribly time consuming, though not impossible. Where there are no CU's of lips, or explosions, you can probably get so close that no one viewing would recognize an OOS problem - you get to use nudge Audio for that. If the OOS is getting bad towards the end, you might be cutting every couple hundred frames, trying to keep up with it..
I would almost bet that the Capture would be to MPEG. The reason that I suspect this is that MPEG is horribly notorious for drifting OOS. Sometimes, a conversion to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit Audio will straighten this out, though not always. Remember, that is just a guess and it's based on many case studies. Your instance might be totally different. Just because I have never seen drifting OOS from a Captured DV-AVI Type II, does not mean that it cannot happen.
Good luck, and please let me know about the Capture software used, and the format/CODEC Captured to.

  • Audio & Video Out Of Synch after Editing

I edited a clip, and the audio went out of synch with the video. What did I do wrong? How do I fix it?
    Kate

    Kate,
Tell us more about this Clip. What format is it in? Be as specific as possible. AVI doesn't tell us enough. What CODEC is inside? G-Spot is a great freeware program for giving you that info www.headbands.com/gspot
How does it go out of sync, i.e. drifts from beginning until it's way out at the end, or starts out of sync in the beginning?
There are likely workarounds for getting it back into sync, but those methods will depend on your answers.
    Good luck,

  • Imovie soundtrack goes out of synch

I have had this problem a few times, and I would love any help I can get. I have edited movies that I have stored on tape. When I bounce them back into imovie to incorporate them into other projects or to make a dvd comp the sound track starts to ride out of synch with the video. I am not entirely sure what is doing it but I suspect it had something to do with titles added into clips. Maybe a font over the vid and not over black. I am not sure. Any ideas?

I am no expert but have been fighting out of sync problem for months. First, the best advice you've been given is 16 bit. But, if like me, you only have the out of sync Mov on tape this is what I had to do:
Import back into iMov, correct the sync, then share back to tape in 16 bit and make sure at all times cam is in 16 bit mode.
Now correcting sync is a lot easier said than done but this is what worked for me a few days ago. It was obvious that audio narration and lip-sync were lagging the video and by using frame advance from stop I counted an even 3 seconds (90 frames). I then extracted the audio, put it in timeline line under video and could see the first 3 or more seconds were blank. I selected (highlighted) the audio, clipped 3 secs off the front, and dragged the remainder 3 sec to the left. This corrected clips 1 and 2 (9.5 min each) but left the 3 minute clip 3 out of sync in the other direction. So I highlited the audio for clip 3 and dragged it back full right. It was only off about a second+ and the small gap had no audio, but none had existed there anyhow. I then shared back to tape, found sync ok and have since imported back, still in sync. The one move I am unsure of is whether or not I used "lock audio at playhead". Good luck!

  • My iPhone 5 won't let me use my apps until I connect them with iTunes after downloading ios7. Solutions?

My iPhone 5 won't let me use my apps until I connect them with iTunes after downloading ios7.  There's just a thing that pops up and says that in order to activate banners and push notifications I have to connect the app with iTunes. The thing won't go away no matter how many times I push ok, and it doesn't give me another option. Solutions?

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!
I hope this helps, because it was incredibly frustrating. Good luck!

  • IMovie HD 6.0.3: After making 10 movies where I clipped portions from a larger clip (and exported the smaller clips), suddenly iMovie clips are much shorter after I export them.

    Hi there,
I am using iMovie HD 6.0.3 on an older MacBookPro (OS X, 10.4.11).
I took an AVI video and imported that into iMovie HD.
I then created smaller clips out of that - like editing a 20 minute video into small, 30 second clips.
I made about 10 of these smaller clips, exported them using "expert settings," and burned the results to DVD. These all worked fine.
Suddenly, the final product that I export is much shorter than the clip I created. For example, I'll create a 30 second smaller clip from the original. When I review this 30 second clip, it is what I wanted.
When I export this 30 second clip, it makes a QuickTime movie that is only 23 seconds. (The first 10 I made did not do this).
I tried extending my clip by 7 seconds, hoping to end up with a 30 second clip after exporting. The result was even shorter - like 15 seconds.
I have checked disk space - it has at least 500 GB free space. I have tried exporting the clip to both my laptop and to an external hard drive. The results are the same.
I just tried using the "crop" feature to see if my end product was better - but it was the same.
Does anyone know what is going on? Why did this start after making 10 successful exports? What can I do to get it working right again, as I have 3 more clips to make and am running up against a deadline.
    Thanks so much!
    Heidi

Since I can't edit this post... (Why?) I'd add: fast forwarding and fast reverse (shift key and arrow left or right) the HA files is also not smooth. They play alright. I'm surprised iMovie can't handle them either. I didn't have a problem with the earlier camcorder's HA files... (All were converted MTS files using Movie Converter.)
