Clips rendered in After Effects appear blown out in Color.

720p DVCPRO 23.98 project from FCP has graphics rendered in After Effects (same codec) in sequence.
They appear fine in the FCP project. All the properties of the graphic clips match the same settings as the footage that was shot.
Once in COLOR the clips rendered from AE appear blown-out, washed-out...
Any ideas why or how to correct this?
thanks!

There is also a problem with Big-Endian-ness being flip-flopped with dpx files incompatible with some external graphics processing software. This has the feel of some sort of scaling misinterpretation.
Shake was broken (in Quicktime) for anything above 8-bit for a long time before that finally got fixed about 6 months ago. All of a sudden (after the FCS2 introduction and Quicktime update) all we got out after a seemingly normal render (showed up fine in Preview) was a big noiseball of something that looked vaguely like it might be the outline of the original media. Its curious that FCP previews it "okay"... did you indicate the recompressing software? Compressor?

  • Quick time won't play mp4 rendered in After Effects.

Since I upgrade to Mavericks i've been unable to play mp4 videos rendered using After Effects cs5. After rendering i get a file icon with the quicktime logo instead if the usual thumbnail with the play button; first indication that the clip might not play. Then when i try to play it i get the error message: "The document “MVI_7772.mp4” could not be opened. This media may be damaged." What do i do?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks3e

I would not expect CS5 apps to be very compatible with Mavericks. You could try to render the file out in After Effects as a Quicktime MOV file using H264 and see if that works for you. If it does you can change the extension from mov to mp4.

Since you run AE 9, it's probably your footage.  Okay, it's the most likely cause, at least.  Here's a copy 'n paste response I used to use a LOT  on the Creative COW:
    Dave's Stock Answer #1:
If the footage you imported into AE is  any  kind of the following -- footage in an HDV acquisition codec, MPEG1, MPEG2, AVCHD, mp4, mts, m2t, H.261 or H.264 -- you need to convert it to a different codec.
These kinds of footage use temporal, or interframe compression. They have keyframes at regular intervals, containing complete frame information.  However, the frames in between do NOT have complete information.  Interframe codecs toss out duplicated information.
In order to maintain peak rendering efficiency, AE needs complete information for each and every frame. But because these kinds of footage contain only partial information, AE freaks out, resulting in a wide variety of problems.
I'm a Mac guy, so I like to convert to Quicktime movies in the Animation or PNG codecs; both are lossless.  I'll

  • QuickTime Files rendered from After Effects won't open

I currently have QuickTime version 7.6. Files that I download from elsewhere or that I view in the FireFox plugin online play just fine. However, files rendered from After Effects CS3 (I prefer MPEG-4 codec, but I just tried and Sorenson 3 won't do it either) will not play in FireFox's plugin and they won't open QuickTime when I double-click them in Explorer. They will only open in the QT player if I already have the player open. Otherwise, I have to open them in VLC. I much prefer the QT player and I don't want to have to open it first to view my files. Any thoughts on what's going wrong here? This has only started in the past month or so.
Other people can view the files just fine, it's just my computer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times now and have updated my video drivers, to no avail. I've also installed Avast! Antivirus and run a boot-time virus scan, but no lick there either.
    Error signature from Windows:
    EventType : BEX P1 : QuickTimePlayer.exe P2 : 7.60.92.0

    P7 : 0000130d P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000

I wouldn't have a clue from here on, it could be anything. The key would be, if you could recall what changes were made to the computer during the time the problem surfaced. I'm not familiar with After Effects C3S but I'd disable it from loading at start-up if it does, and try QT again, but that's just a pure guess, based on the EventType error numbers, that are somewhat familiar with memory load

Good question. But I'm guessing seeing how the CEO wont even talk about any new products, and has basically said the focus right now is the OS and not the hardware wont get any answers, just theories.
Mine is I am guessing since all this will still be based off of webOS, apps will be backward compatible. But not forward due to hardware limits on older devices. So if you continue to have a Palm Profile you will always have access to those apps purchased. I could see the Palm Profile even being something transferable to other carriers like porting a number that way you can continue to keep those apps you have invested in. Just like the PalmOS was, even as new hardware came out you can even run those apps on the Pre via Classic emulator.

  • Rendered clips play in After Effects and Premier, but not in Speedgrade

    Hi,
I am very new to the world of Speedgrade, and have started running some tests, but hit a brick wall right at the get go. I have an After Effects project, that has a few layers, some are filmed footage, some are photoshop images etc. there are also a few plugins used (Lens Flare, Particulare etc). I render this comp out to two outputs, 1 - Quicktime JPEG2000 Intermediate (Highest quality settings) and 2 - Quicktime DNxHD Proxy (Lowest quality settings). I can import and play bot these exports in After effects and Premier, but when I take them to Speedgrade, I dont get playback.
    Here are screenshots:
    After Effects footage settings:
Visual of the smoke in After Effects of the imported render:
The same file imported into sSpeedGrade:
Is this something that can easily be explained?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Joost,
Thjank you for your feedback. I have submitted a bug-report as you suggested. I will find another workaround for now, probably doing most needed colour work in After Effects directly for now.

  • Jumpy AVCHD rendering in After Effects CS4

    Hey Everyone,
i am working with ACVHD footage which can easily be edited in ae and premiere cs4 on my computer. But since
have rendered out my material (I have tried, mov, avi, flv, and whatnot) it runs fluently but is now and again
jumpy when played. Its like a few frames are repeated sometimes.
What is the trick to achieve a good result, what is the best output format? Can anyone please help?
    Thank you in advanced!
    Best,
    Alex

    Hi there,
( Wow! An actual Adobe employee in this forum... ;-)  )
I am experiencing what I would think to be AVCHD decoding problems in Premiere Pro CS4 as well and am wondering, if this might be the same problem as in After Effects.
I have observed the following effects:
    - Sometimes during editing in Premiere a single frame will simply be the wrong one. This error is then persistent and can be reproduced until some internal buffers get rerendered and the problem may vanish, for instance, after I render an effect or dissolve in a different part of the timeline... until it happens again at a totally different location.
    - When I render the video out (export in Adobe Media Encoder or playback to my "old" Sony HDV cam via firewire) in different formats (I prefer Blu-Ray MPEG2 because it is faster for Full HD material than a AVCHD render), the problem appears in the resulting video as well about every few minutes or so (Frames jump back and forth or sometimes a single wrong frame is displayed). The problem shows up at random locations and no two renderings have the same problems at the same locations.
During editing I was ok with that behaviour and could even live with the non-realtime previews. Hey, I am a programmer myself and know, that bug-free software is not possible to make.
But I was expecting, that at least the final rendered video sequence would be ok. Well, this is obviously not the case and renders (pun intended) the whole result of the video project unusable.
I concur, that there seems to be a problem in the AVCHD decoder used to get the frames that need to be rendered (I assume that this is somehow a part of the ImportProcessServer, which uses gigs of memory on a project with something like 1400 video clips. I do not think, though, that this points to a problem in the AVCHD data stream or is even connected to Panasonic cameras. I am shooting with a Sony HDR XR-520.
    My System:
    Core i7 950 QuadCore @ 3.2 GHz
    NVidia Geforce GTX 275
Windows 7 64bit (performance index 5,9 due to hard disk, everything else 7,3 - 7,5)
    12 GB RAM
    4 TB Hard Disk space
    Adobe CS4 Master Collection
I have been a fan of Adobe software for years and am also using After Effects.
Under these circumstances, I will have to rethink upgrading to CS5, though. Based on previous support and update experiences I do not dare hope to see a fix for this severe bug in an upcoming CS4 patch!?
    Regards,
    Gunnar

  • Stuttered footage after rendering in After Effects

    Who can help me?
When I rendered footage in After effects (6.5) it's a little bit stuttering.
It looks like shooting on progressive scan. The settings are on upper field. It's 16:9 PAL and came out of media 100 editing system.
The only thing we did in AFX is color correction.
    Does anyone know this problem?

  • Caching, SSD's, improving RAM preview and rendering in After Effects CC

I've read a few posts and looked at some of the optimising After Effects for performance posts but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on settings for helping getting the best performance out of After Effects for my setup. I'm like to be able to explore more advanced effects like Trapcode and things like that but for them to preview and render as quickly as I can... as I'm sure we all do.
I have a 12 Core Mac Pro 2012 with 64GB RAM, a SSD that I use just for the system, a 4TH HDD for all my files and projects and 2 new SSD's that I installed today that I thought I would use as a cache disk and and a disk for my renders.
I decided this based on these guidelines that I found:
My Media and disk cache settings:
If I set the Conformed media disk as another disk separate from my cache is that good for rendering and previews?
My memory and multiprocessing details are as follows:
    Installed RAM: 64.00 GB
    Current RAM Usage: 3.26 GB
    Allowed RAM Usage: 48.00 GB
    Process ID
    Application Name
    Min Needed Memory

    64.00
    48.00
    3.26

Video preview, I'm not entirely sure what this is for, can anyone explain please?
I've only just discovered the Cache Work Area in background option shown here:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-after-effects-cs6/global-performance-cache/
    That's going to help massively!
Just how much faster would things run with a new graphics card installed? Say a Nvidia Quadro K5000 for Mac? Is a GPU it worth investing in?
Current I just have this setup:
    ATI Radeon HD 5770:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 5770
      Type: GPU
      Bus: PCIe
      Slot: Slot-1
      PCIe Lane Width: x16
      VRAM (Total): 1024 MB
      Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
      Device ID: 0x68b8
      Revision ID: 0x0000
      ROM Revision: 113-C0160C-155
      EFI Driver Version: 01.00.436
    LED Cinema Display:
      Display Type: LCD

  • Poor quality after timeline rendering of after effects dynamic link comp.

One of my typical workflows involves dynamic linking AE comps into Premiere- Often I can playback the timeline in Premiere without rendering and achieve great results with no dropped frames. This scenario is ideal since I need to play out sequences in premiere passing them through a Matrox  MXO2 LE box to capture them on another system. However, I have noticed recently that if I need to render the Premiere sequences before playback because the dynamically linked AE comps are more complicated, I lose quite a bit of quality after rendering.I've searched around and read about different quality settings in both AE and PP and I can't seem to find any settings that affect this process. Pause and playback quality are both set to full, tried checking rendered maximum depth/quality in the sequence settings and I still can't get this right. I am perplexed since I would think that results would be better post-render.
    Dynamic Linked Clip Unrendered
    Dynamic Linked Clip Rendered:
    -A note about my settings:
    AE comps:
    720x480 (containing downscaled HD video)
    PAR: D1/DV NTSC (.91)
    29.97fps
Resolution full 720x480 1.3 MB per 8bpc frame
    PP Sequences:
    720x480 (.9091)
    29.97p
    WINDOWS 7 - Adobe CC
    Intel Xeon(R)  12 cores 2.40ghz
    Nvidia Quadro 4000
    12g RAM

The video preview settings were set to DV NTSC. I'm not sure why I didn't think to look at those settings. I went ahead and downloaded the Ut Video Codec Suite and things are now looking great - just like they do when I do not render the sequences. I am noticing now that my HD sequences usually are setup to use Matrox's Mpeg2 I frames only codec.
Is the lossless codec choice always the best/most efficent choice to be used for the preview codec? I assume if I was not dynamic linking I should match this codec with the codec of the files in my sequence, is this correct?

  • How can I reduce the file size rendered by After Effects?

When I render a relatively simple 5 second project in After Effects, the file size of the resultant .avi is 64MB.  If I change the properties to reduce the file size, the degradation makes the file unusable.  What am I doing wrong?

Is AE's encoder really that inefficient?
The thing is, AVI doesn't mean much.
It's pretty much an empty container box, which doesn't imply a quality level.
So, AME could default to something completely different as a starting point to produce an AVI file.
AE defaults to uncompressed video when you pick AVI as a format. So, obviously this produces huge file sizes. There could be similar quality thresholds with smaller sizes if you pick other AVIcodecs, but that's a different subject. And in any case, when you're rendering a production quality master,  file size is usually not your main concern. You typically use this high quality video file as a source for compressed flavors for distribution. So, pristine video files with huge sizes are a good thing - people then wonder why trailers at apple.com, for instance look so good. And the thing is, the most compressed formats benefit enormously from having an uncompressed file as a source.
Regarding encoding efficiency, yes, AE is less efficient than dedicated encoding solutions. Above all, because it doesn't support 2 pass encoding. Note that for some formats, 2 pass makes a night and day difference, while for others, nothing as drastic as most users seem to believe.
All of this is a moot point for AVI, because the default AVI codecs don't offer these encoding options, which are more the realm of distribution formats like FLV, MPEG-4/H264 or WMV.
There are distribution codecs which use AVI as a container out there, but those are a different case.

  • Endless crashes rendering with After Effects CC

    System:
Windows 7 Pro 64bit (all latest updates)
    16gb RAM
    i5-2200k processor
    GTX780 video card
Latest version of After Effects CC
To preface this, I am a novice to After Effects but fairly experienced with other video editing software such as Sony Vegas.
I have been trying to render a simple downloaded audio visualizer/react template for the last 4 days and every time I get some kind of crash. The template has a few layers and particle effects which react to an audio layer.
First it was blue screens of death, usually with the "MEMORY MANAGEMENT" blue screen error about 10-20% into the render. Of course I ran a Windows memory diagnostic, which found no problems. I'm able to use + render from Vegas and Premiere no problem also, I might add, which would seem to indicate that it is not a hardware problem. The system is stable otherwise. I have AE set to use 12gb of RAM - multiprocessing I've tried both ways, on/off. Eventually I found a user suggestion to reduce voltage to my RAM via my BIOS, which I did, and that seemed to stop the blue screen problems.
Next, I would get errors such as "A crash occurred while invoking plugin..." anywhere from 50% to 80% through the render. The exact plugin varied. All are default AE plugins, no 3rd party stuff. For example, one crash occurred with the basic hue/saturation plugin, another with glow. These do not occur ion load or on normal playback. I have tried using the secret preferences to purge every 30 frames, turned off RAM preview, etc.
It's just insane how finicky and unstable this software is. The machine is practically brand new. Very clean installation, latest graphics card drivers, etc. NO problems with any other software including video software so again I find it unlikely to be a general hardware issue. Currently I am working on reinstalling EVERYTHING on the machine with a clean W7 pro install - nothing but W7, CC, and the graphics drivers.

OK, I've totally wiped my system and reinstalled with very little luck. Here is the full list of specs/info as per the FAQ.
After Effects version: 13.0.2.3, 2014.0.2 release (After Effects CC)
Have I installed recent updates: Yes
What OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Version 6.1 (Build 7601: SP 1)
Error messages: Currently my system alternates between "MEMORY MANAGEMENT" BSODs, and a series of errors to the effect of "Crash occurred while invoking effect plugin" followed by a series of native AE plugins in my project, such as radial wipe, glow, hue/saturation, etc
What was I doing when problem occurred: In all cases, simply leaving a freshly-rebooted system to render in peace with no other applications open and caps lock ON
Has this ever worked before: I managed to render the project once, somehow, with no errors. I have not changed any settings, hardware, or software since then.
Computer hardware: CPU is i5-2500k @ 3.3ghz 4 cores, 16gb Corsair XMS2 RAM, GTX780 graphics card with LATEST DRIVERS, 20" LED monitor connected via HDMI, USB wireless LAN adapter, USB mouse, PS/2 keyboard, no other peripherals or hardware. OS + AE installed on a FRESH 250gb Samsung SSD. One other HD in the system (500gb normal HD)
Graphics driver version: GeForce 344.11 release date 9/8/2014, version 344.11
    Third party i/o hardware: No
Source footage: You can download the exact template I'm using here. http://impactsoundworks.com/work/AudReactV2.rar
QuickTime installed: Yes version 7.7.5 (1680.95.13)
What other software am I running: While using After Effects, nothing except the Adobe CC application, Geforce control panel, and Samsung Magician for my SSD. No firewall no antivirus.
Third-party effects / codecs: None. This occurs with a 100% completely fresh installation of Windows 7 (with all windows updates) and AE CC, with no additions
OpenGL Features in AE:  Not sure how to check.
RAM preview, final output?: The problem happens when rendering. Though if I try to play back the projects in real time, after about 5 seconds it says my RAM is maxed out @ 16gb
Using render multiple frames simultaneously? Happens with this feature on AND off, makes no difference.
    Ray-traced 3D render: Not sure
Render settings: Occurs with H.264 AND uncompressed AVI, both set to 1920x1080 resolution, 8bit depth, 48khz audio, 24 fps
Please note for clarity, these problems were occurring on my previous installation of Windows with the same machine. So, I put in a 100% new hard drive, installed Windows 100% fresh, with nothing but Adobe CC and the same problems still happened. I then installed Premiere and Sony Vegas. I have been able to use and render from these with NO PROBLEMS at all.
I'm at my wit's end here...

  • Streaching occuring when rendering from After Effects to Premiere

    Hello,
I am working on a short film that includes a short section with special effects. I exported the scenes into After Effects CS5 and set the sequence to 1280 by 720. (same as the Premiere sequence) After I finished working on the effects in After Effects I rendered it to bring it back into Premiere. But, when I brought it back into Premiere the video was streatched out. Any assistance would be great.
    Thanks
    Alex

Instead of rendering out of Ae, why not simply Dynamically Link
your composition into your Premiere project?
File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Import After Effects Composition

  • Slow rendering in After Effects CC 2014

I'm using Adobe After Effects CC 2014.02 on a Macbook pro with 10.9.3 OSX installed.
I need to render a composition that is 3 minutes long, without any special effects or video. It's just a 500 mb Photoshop file with some movements. This takes anywhere from 7 to 30 hours to render. I rendered a similar composition before and this only lasted 20 minutes. Rendering it at a third of the quality only takes a couple of minutes, so the 7 to 30 hours seem excessive.

Tried clearing disk and media cache, boosting RAM and installed CUDA, but nothing worked. What could be the problem?

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics
The time it takes to render is the same in CC. Flattening the file in Photoshop is not an option, since I need all the different layers.
The strange thing is that the first video I made using After Effects rendered fine, while the second one (and the third I'm working on now) are not. So I would think my computer is capable of doing this and it has to be something to do with a setting somewhere. Also, I sent someone on a Windows computer the files and the composition rendered within 20 minutes.
