Clips stretching from QTP Pro to iMovie

Have gone through similar questions and followed the suggested instructions, but can't seem to stop clips that have been rotated from landscape to portrait and resized in QuickTime Player Pro to stretching when imported to iMovie. Looks right in QTP, but stretches out from portrait back to landscape in iMovie. How do I stop iMovie from doing this?
Thanks!

You'll need to add an all black image sized at 640X480 to your rotated video.
Set the video track layer to -1 so it is "on top" of the black. Make any needed adjustments to the dimensions and "offset" to position your video and Save As (reference will be OK).
Bring this new file into iMovie.

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

  • Made movie from go pro on imovies. How do burn to DVD

Made movie from go pro on imovies but having trouble burning to DVD. Very new to this. An anyone help

AVI is just a 'wrapper' that can contain content encoded with many different CODECS (encoders); most of which aren't Mac compatable.
VOB files are MPEG streaming content.
Most AVI and all VOB files will require some sort of conversion to be useable in iDVD.
If you have a lot of such files, I suggest you look at purchasing Roxio's Toast; it is far more flexable than iDVD in the files it will accept and should work with your AVI and VOB files.

  • Timewarp problems in AE CC with clips linked from Premiere Pro CC

    Hi guys.
I've been searching for answers for a while now and hopefully you will be able to help me with this issue.
I have a project in Premiere Pro CC and I am using a "Replace With After Effects Composition" option on a clip which is cut from a longer video.
Then, in AE I am trying to use a "Timewarp" effect which instead of working only on this short clip, works on the entire video thus what I see in AE is not what I cut in PP because clip is slower and "moves" on my timeline. Because it's a linked comp I am losing the bits that I want to work on.
I am aware that clip needs to be longer for "Timewarp" to work and I was also trying to PreCompose my video file but whatever I do the same thing seems to be happening.
I know that I could export this short clip and then import it in AE but I have many of them and I want to be able to come back to AE in the later stages of the project and apply some changes which I will see in PP straight away.
I hope all this makes sense.
    I am attaching two screenshots.
    Thanks a lot!

When working with time manipulation it's better to just take the clip into AE, do your magic, render the result to a suitable production codec and then drop the rendered clip in your PPro timeline.

  • CAPTURING FROM DVC PRO INTO iMOVIE

I am feeding a DVC pro deck with SDI out into the firewire port on my new mac. I can see the video in imovie capture window, but cannot actually capture footage (either by selecting import or hitting the space bar). No clips are captured.
I have rebooted the mac but still can't capture video. Since I can see video in the imove capture window, I can assume that the source (dvc pro) is not the problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

iMovie 11 is well worth the cost. Get it for $14.99 in the new App Store.
In iMovie 11, you need to get a free app called MPEG Streamclip. You need to have it anyway. It is like a Swiss Army Knife for people who make videos. Right-click on the clip in iMovie. Select Reveal in Finder. Drag this clip to MPEG Streamclip. Move the playhead to the frame you want, and click FILE/EXPORT FRAME. Pick Jpeg, TIFF, or PNG and you are done.
In iMovie 08, the above procedure works fine as well. However, there is another way, which I have documented [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2255510]

  • Can I move video files from Final Cut Pro to iMovie?

I've used iMovie forever, and I just bought Final Cut Pro.  I uploaded video for a new movie into FCP, but I have an urgent need to get this movie done and don't have time to learn Final Cut Pro to do it.  Can I move my video files from FCP over to iMovie 10.0.6?  Or do I need to reload the raw video to iMovie?

No you will have to import your clips again into iMovie 10.  Projects can only be transferred from iMovie 10 to FCPX and not the other way.

Your media is stored in Final Cut Events folder > "name of event"  > original media. The Final Cut Events folder is in your movies folder or at the root level of an external drive if you are using one to store your media. Simply open iMovie and under file menu select import movies. Navigate to the original media folder and import your clips to Imovie event library.

I have a MacBook Pro. How do I capture a still picture from a video in iMovie and print the still picture?

Click iMovie/About. If you have version 9.0.4 (iMovie 11) this will work. If you have an earlier version, this will also work, but there are also other ways.
First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
I have created a short video Tutorial on how to do this. There is one error in the Tutorial, where it says that Command-click is the same as right-click. I should have said Control-click instead.

  • When importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed.

when importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed. need to figure out why it randomly imports differently, or how to add different file tyoes to multi cam.

here is one that is imported and stays .mp4. the specs are same as original file before import.
here is one that has changed somehow during import. specs on original file are same as above, but once it is imported it changes to this in event folder, and others randomly keep the above specs.

  • H.264, Clips from EyeTv3 going into iMovie.

So when I export my HD clips from EyeTv3 using the format H.264 and play them back on VLC they're fine. No jitter at all, perfect. Then I import my clip from my desktop to iMovie (Not optimising the video), again it's fine, no jitter. Then I export my movie by clicking "Share, export movie, I choose HD, and I look at what it is and it says it's 'H.264, 25 FPS, 10 Mbps" but in EyeTv3 my settings are 13.5 Mbps and 59.94 fps." I don't know if this effects it? But after I've exported my clip has this jitter. I think I have to change some settings in iMovie because everything is fine until iMovie, PLEASE HELP.

It sounds like you need to keep the frame rate the same from the EyeTV source files to iMovie. If one is 25 and one is 29.97, you will get the jitter.

  • Upon saving, GB alters audio clip, stretching it from 4 to 4.5 bars

Here is the problem: I have a song with a 4 bar "real instrument" clip in it. I alter the song. Resave it as another file name. When I reopen the song, the clip plays back incorrectly (too slow). It plays over 4.5 bars, not 4. Sometimes, it actually shows the clip stretched out to be 4.5 bars. Needless to say, this ruins the song. I have not touched this clip between the time I play it ok, then save and it plays too slow.
    Any suggestions gratefully accepted!
PS Although I just posted about this problem, I thought it had to do with the mobile pre interface, but that was a red herring. It is the same with the interface or with internal audio. Thank you.

    For what it's worth -
I erroneously stated earlier that the "Mobile" quality video played well in QuickTime & iTunes.  That's not true.   When I converted/downlaoded the same video from Clip Converter using the Mobile settings, the sound is messed up in bot programsh.  The specs for the filer are:
The same clip played & sounded well in both Quick Time & iTunes (but not on iPhone) when downloaded at Standard Quality (360p - specs in previous post).
I notice the FPS & the Data Rate of the "Standard" clip are out of parameter based on the requirements I quoted.
Really all I want to know is how to download some YouTube videos & get them to play well on my iPhone.  If I can learn to understand the hows & whys, that'd be great too.  But definititely secondary!
    Cheers.

  • How do you move iMovies from MacBook Pro to iMac?

How do you move iMovies from MacBook Pro to iMac?  I started some projects on my MacBook Pro but would rather have the larger working area provided on the iMac large 27 inch screen.

    Hi there rainyri!
The easiest way for you to do this is to transfer the information to an external drive as an intermediary, then transfer the information from your drive to the internal drive on your iMac. We have an article that explains the steps for doing this, and it can be found here:
iMovie '11: Copy or move a project to an external hard disk

  • Entire frame of mini-dv video clips do NOT show in the iMovie '11 viewer in playback mode

I am editing a wedding video in iMovie11 that was recorded on a mini dv tape.  When I move video clips from the event library to the timeline, the entire frame is displayed in the timeline.  However, the entire frame of the video clip does NOT show in the iMovie viewer or when I playback the video.  I exported the video and burned it to a dvd using Toast 11 pro.  The video recorded to the dvd as it was showing in the iMovie viewer... the full frame does not show.  I would certainly appreciate any advice as to how to solve my problem.  THANK YOU!!!

Is your video shot in 16:9 aspect ratio or 4:3?
You can go to File/Project Properties and set the aspect ratio for the project.
When you get a clip that does not match the project's aspect ratio, you use the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tool on the middle toolbar to specify how it should be treated.
FIT will place the entire clip in the movie, and will letterbox (black bars) so that it fits.
CROP will fill the screen, but will cut off the top and bottom of your frame.
