Clock is behind

The clock on my Mac Mini is 4 minutes behind my MacBook Air. They are both set to synch with Apple's clock. The MBA is right. The real problem comes from the fact that my iOS devices synch with the Mini, so when I do that  their clocks are changed to be 4 minutes behind and I have to reset the clock in the Date/Time settings.
Has anyone had this problem and know of a solution?
I've gone through the basics that I can think of:
Reset
Switch to manual, fix it, and switch back to Apple
Change time zones
Switch between 12 and 24-hour display
It always stays, or reverts to being 4 minutes behind.

Do a NVRAM reset:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
Release the keys.

  • Clock is lagging behind despite deleting adjtime

After a few weeks the clock lags behind by several minutes. I already tried deleting the adjtime file but that didn't help. I don't want to use ntp because it can mess up log files and is not really a solution but just a "hack" to work around.
Edit: This is fairly new hardware maybe a year old, so I don't think it's a hardware fault. The PC is always on anyway so it doesn't rely on battery.

It is possible that even a cheap quartz wristwatch uses more sophisticated clock design than the RTC in many motherboards.
Given the rather poor typical drift in the RTC I would not be surprised if it is not actually a quartz clock at all, but a simple LC oscillator circuit that is part of the large integrated circuitry on the motherboard or the BIOS chip, and kept supplied with power by the CMOS battery that keeps the clock powered up when the computer is not connected to external power.  If that is the case then it is not too surprising that it drifts like fury, since the temperature of the board will vary with CPU use and with external temperature variations.
I have always taken it for granted that without external time synchronisation the internal RTC is likely to be out of sync by some minutes per week.  Hence it is essential in linux to run one of the time synchronisation daemons such as NTPD or CHRONYD.  These will keep the system clock in sync to within a few microseconds of the world's atomic time clocks, and when shutting down will, if set up right, write the current time to the RTC, which will then have a reasonable starting time at the next bootup unless the machine is left for some weeks before it is next booted up.  Either way even if the RTC is out by several minutes when booting up, if the ntp or chrony daemons are started by default during boot then within a few minutes the system clock will be back to within microseconds of atomic time.
I don't know of any way to improve on that for a machine that is not networked but perhaps there are accurate clocks that can be connected to a computer (say via usb?) that could provide a sunc time for the operating system to use as system time, but perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me will explain if that is possible or not.

  • Image not going behind other controls

I am having difficulties with something that seems like it should be very simple.  I am making a world clocks application.  I have created all of my clock controls, and now I want to put an image behind them (very light, stretches the whole length of the clocks).
I have my image uploaded and I added it to the form.  In the layout I stretched it to fit, and did a send to behind.  There it looks how it should, but when I deploy and run it, it is in front of the clocks, not behind.
I also tried changing the Layer setting (in the properties of the image control) to a negative number, and all of the clocks to a positive value, but everytime I leave the image properties and come back in that field is blank again.
Can anyone give me any ideas on this?  Thanks in advance!

  • FP-2000 clock is 15 minutes slow per day

My FP-2000 system clock is about 15 minutes slow per day. How come?
Is it possible to adjust it?
Because it is running stand-alone it cannot be adjusted remotely. It is only connected to a PC every once in a while.
    Regards,
    Gerwim

    Hello Gerwim,
The clock on the FP-2000 has normaly an accuracy of about +/- 1min/Month. However the process on the controller that is running the clock is a low priority process. When you controller has higher priority tasks to perform, which take a lot of processing power, it can happen that the clock will get behind more then usual. When a host computer is connected to the system the controller will check with the host computer (its time server) if the clock is running correctly and adjust it when needed. At Stand-Alone Base this timeserver is not available.
There is a VI under: Real-Time>>RT Utilities which is called RT Set Date and Time which can be used to set the date and time on the controller. The problem is however that you would need a reference to set your clock to. If the amount of time the clock runs behind every day is pretty consistend maybe you can use this VI to adjust the clock with a certain amount of minutes every now and then. Ofcourse you still will not have a very accurate clock setting but still more accurate as it was. The only other option you would have is a permanent time-server connected to the FP controller.
    Hope this helps,

  • Clock is wrong by 20 minutes.

So two days ago my clock was behind by 20 minutes. I almost missed work because of this.
Right now, my clock is ahead by 20 minutes. What the heck!?!?
It's set on automatic update. It'll fix itself if I turn it off and on; but seriously? I can't have this happening anymore. I may just turn it on manual. This is stupid. I'm guessing this is Fido/Rogers network's fault?

If I was scheduled to blast into space on the next shuttle, I'd use something else. However, I don't see why it's unreasonable to be able to use the "alarm clock" as an alarm clock.
I didn't say it was unreasonable to be able to use the "alarm clock" as an alarm clock now did I?
    Copied from your original post.

I said it I wouldn't depend on your iPhone exclusively for your wake-up alarm, and the same for any cell phone. You almost missed work because of this, but continue depending on your iPhone exclusively for this if that is what you want, regardless if you aren't scheduled to blast into space any time soon - just possibly lose your job, that is all.

  • Time origin of "Global Start Time" in Output Node of Time Loop

    Hi All,
Please, do you know how the time returned by Global Time Start (after converting in milliseconds) in the Output Node of a Timed Loop is related to the time returned by “Tick Count (ms)” (if the latter is read at the very start of the loop)?
The look similar but they are not the same.
Is it right that the time returned by Time in the Node of an Event Structure is the value of “Tick Count (ms)” when the event takes place?
    Have an awesome day,
    LucaQ

    Hi LucaQ,
This is a really interesting question. To answer the easy part, the Tick Count and the Time event data node for an event structure both output the same thing, the ms clock value obtained from the OS.
The Global Start Time node outputs a nanosecond-resolution clock value. I'm a little fuzzy on details, but my neighbors and I believe that this clock comes directly from the processor (or more directly at least). If you look at the differences between this nanosecond clock and the ms clock for the OS, you'll see that the OS ms clock "lags behind." For example, look at these values output by the 2 clocks:
    Global Start Time:
    335654376684899
    ms timer value:
    335650557
If you scale the nanosecond value up to ms, you see that 335654376.7 is greater than 335650557.
I believe this time offset can be accounted for if we assume that the OS (such as Windows) takes this nanosecond clock and derives a ms clock from it. In addition, it will take some time for that ms value to propagate through the various levels of software up to your end-user application level. The nanosecond clock comes directly from the processor, and the Timed Loop uses lower-level functions to obtain it. Because it has fewer layers of processing to pass through, it is a higher (more recent) number.
In light of all this, I would use the Global Start Time only for comparing against other Timed Loop nanosecond clock values like Global End Time. Do not expect to scale it and subtract a ms clock value to get the time elapsed or anything like that.

  • Portege M780 won't boot

A friend gave me a Portege m780. It powers up, shows the Toshiba splash screen, and shuts off before the starting Windows message shows. When it shuts down I hear click from the left side of the laptop.
The laptop has been sitting for a year or more and the battery was totally dead.
It will boot into the CMOS/BIOS setup screen.
The first time I started I noticed the clock was behind a couple of years. So I reset it.
    I have:
Removed all peripherals, DVD, battery and unplugged it.
With the battery removed and the power cord unplugged, pressed and held the power button for 2 minutes then plugged it back in.
Pressed 12 on boot to go to the boot selection menu and tried to boot off of a USB drive
Removed the hard disk and repeated the previous step
Removed the memory and reset it
Reset the bios to factory defaults.
No matter what, it boots->shows the spash screen, clicks and shuts off.
    Any ideas?
    Paul

Try with one of the memory sticks installed at a time and in each slot to verify passably a bad or failing memory stick or memory slot.
Does the fan come on and is the click coming from it?  From your trouble shooting steps I think it is either a failing memory or a hardware issue, fan, motherboard, processor, or video. I am not familiar with Cmos battery issues to know if that would be a problem for you, I mention that because you said the date was way behind.

Went through a clean install on Win 2003, added patches, and when I login to the EM homepage for the single database the clock is behind by one hour. TZ update was applied on host and is correct. But, just a couple days ago she started NOT finding my company. In fact Siri answers by saying she doesn't have an address for Metalcloak and it references my contact entry. I deleted the contact entry and she now can't find us at all.

The server clock on a website I use to make t-times (FORETEES) is 5 hours behind the current correct time. The time has always been correct until this morning. • Auotmatic Clock 1 hour behind since Fiji changed to daylight saving

I live in Fiji which went to daylight saving time on 23 October. Since then, the clock on my iphone and ipad (set to automatic) is 1 hour behind. Has Apple not updated this? If not, can they update their system please?

The change is built into the iOS. With the device set on Automatic, it gets the time from the carrier towers. That should correct it, or you can manually set the time, but I'm afraid that if you have to power the phone off or do a reset, then it would go back.
Unfortunately, when governments make these changes, they do not notify those that program OS systems and so they end up dealing with that problem.

  • Clock runs 6 minutes behind after 4.3 download

I have a lot of the same issues that everyone has with their G3 since 4.3; poor battery life, iffy WiFi connection, and flaky connection with the Bluetooth in my Prius - There is another issue with my G3 that since the 4.3 download that I have not seen anyone make reference to.
The day after I did the 4.3 download, I happened to notice that the clock on the phone was 6 minutes behind the clock in my bedroom.  I figured that the alarm clock was fast, but when I checked the phone against my atomic clock, I realized that the Network time on my phone was indeed 6 minutes behind.
Thinking that the automatic time had somehow been disabled with the update, I went to Settings > Date and time > Automatic date and time / Use network-provided time, and found the that the box was checked; so I unchecked and rechecked; no change.  Then I unchecked and manually set the correct time; but when I re-checked the box; it instantly went back to being 6 minutes behind.
Rebooting did correct the time, until a few days later when it happened again.  This has happened to me several times since, and it is always 6 minutes slow; never 5 minutes, never 7 minutes....
Has anyone else had issues with their clock after downloading 4.3?

  • Phone clock is 30-seconds behind the World CLock??

What is the process to sync the phone with the World Clock. Mine is 00:30 behind the World Clock that is used as the official time at all network levels. I've reset, rebooted, re-synced and it's still 30-seconds behind. What is wrong?

I have the same issue. My iPhone 4 is about 45 seconds behind every other atomic clock or computer I have. I just noticed that. Also, the clock on the phone and the world time on the phone seem to be in sync (they're both behind.) My 3G was always dead on with every other device that automatically updates the clock.
The issue here is not about it being 30 seconds off or 45 seconds off or 10 seconds off. The issue here is that this shows yet another way in which the iPhone 4 is inferior to its predecessors and other phones out there that have no problem displaying the accurate time. It's little things like this that if Apple doesn't correct in a timely manner, they will begin to tarnish Apple's reputation. Apple has set the standard up until now for thinking about the "little things" that most manufacturers overlook. Now, as Android devices are definitely turning up the heat on Apple, it seems that Apple is forgetting to remember the little things and check to see that they actually work as they should.
Make no mistake that I do like my iPhone 4. However, between the newly discovered time accuracy issue and the ever-present proximity sensor issue I'm also experiencing (which to me is the far greater problem), I am considering taking the phone back in a few weeks. I've got too much money invested in Apps and the like to ditch iPhones forever, but I may go back to using a cheap phone with no bells and whistles if Apple refuses to own up to the flaws in the iPhone 4 and correct them within my 30 day return window. Once the folks at Apple get over their big egos and assure us that these issues have been resolved (whether that takes a software update or if I have to wait for iPhone 5), I would move back to the iPhone at that point.
