Clock skew possibly caused by suspend/resume

In an attempt to save electricity, my girlfriend has started suspending her desktop.  She started complaining that the clock was off, in spite of the fact that I have ntp running.  I think that what is happening is that when she suspends it, the time is saved and when she turns it back on, the time is set to what it was when she suspended it.  Another possibility is that the hardware clock takes over, and the internal battery is getting weak.  I would have to do some testing, and ban her from the pc for a while to figure out exactly what it is.
Anyway, ntp doesn't work properly if the time is too far off, and gives up.  Has anyone else had this problem?
PS  The I haven't updated her software in a long time because unfortunately she has an onboard intel gpu, and the newer drivers aren't working so well.  Maybe this is a situation that has been resolved already.
PPS I know that I could set a chron job to run ntpdate occasionally, but I think that this is unfriendly to the servers, and of course, she would have to wait for the chron job to fix the clock.

This is funny! Something like that happened to me as well... I was suspending my laptop frequently and for a long period of time, and my clock started to be off.
I was constantly setting it manually using the 'date' command, and then at some point it was normal again. I have no clue why it started working again. It just did.... I am not using suspend anymore, though.

  • [Solved] "cannot open display" after suspend/resume, possibly broadcom

    Hey peoples,
[EDIT: I think my initial assumptions are incorrect, this issue seems to be occurring independently of whatever wifi driver I have loaded]
I'm finding that after suspend/resume my machine will not open any new windows. The windows that were already open continue to function. If I've left a terminal open, and attempt to open a new window I get the message:
    [framps@localhost ~]$ firefox
Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyInvalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyError: cannot open display: :0.0
I've found that removing the broadcom-wl driver from my system seems to fix the issue. I can't see anything particularly obvious in my dmesg. I think I need the broadcom-wl driver as I have not been able to get b43 or bcma to work for my machine.

It seems that the only option for my  wifi card, BCM43228 is the proprietary broadcom-wl.
Can anyone suggest how I might be able to get any debugging information for this module? Maybe this driver is conflicting with something else on my system, as I can't find anyone else that is seeing this same issue.
Very frustrating, my machine is a Thinkpad Edge E530. Because I ordered from New Zealand there was no option to include the alternative Intel card and I was stuck with the broadcom. Apparently there's a whitelist on the BIOS aswell which will prevent me from installing another card.

  • Touchpad not working after suspend/resume on Asus R409LD

    Hello,
I have installed Arch on my Asus laptop and I had issues with the FocalTech touchpad being detected as a generic mouse. This problem is now fixed in the mainline kernel which I use (cf https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AS … #Touch_Pad).
However I still have a problem : when I suspend/resume my laptop, the touchpad ceases working.
Here is the output of xinput before suspending :
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ FocalTechPS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad id=13 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ USB Camera id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Asus WMI hotkeys id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
I tried deactivating and reactivating psmouse but it doesn't work.
Wierdly, the touchpad is still listed by xinput after resuming, but doesn't work. And when I disable/enable psmouse it disappears from the output.
Here is a full dmseg with suspend/resume if it may help :

  • Choppy video/audio playback after two suspend/resume cycles?

    Hello!
Today I figured out, that my video and audi playback becomes choppy after two or more suspend-cycles. Can somebody confirm this?
I'm running a up-to-date Archlinux on my ThinkPad t430s. Several applications are affected: mplayer (virtual terminal), totem (Gnome 3), IOQuake3 (OpenGL is fine, but sound is choppy too).
I wonder if I'm the only one?

    I tried it like described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … omments/22
Sadly it seems not to work for me.
    // Update:
Ufff, looks weird to me at all.
    1. Seem not to occure with Kernel 3.6.x, but with Kernel 3.7.x
    2. Suspending/Resuming again maybe fix the issue, i.e. try to manually suspend with pm-suspend (uses a buch of quirks and so on and not only plain "suspend" from system) instead with systemd (systemctl suspend, is also used by GNOME or KDE internals)

  • X or GDM dies after suspend/resume (Nvidia card)

For a while now (about a month, I think), X seems to crash after suspend/resume and I end up back on the GDM login screen.
The problem is intermittent, but I'd say it happens about 50% of the time. As can be seen in the log below, after a while a new gdm-x-session replaces the one that was running before suspend.
    Any ideas? I'm stuck.

  • MIG v2.3 clock skew

    Hi,
I am having issues closing timing on a design that uses the MIG to interface (via AXI4) to DDR3 (AXI clock = 250MHz, DDR3 clock = 500MHz). In the failing paths (-200ish ps WNS) the problem appears to be down to clock skew between the source and destination clocks on the AXI4 read interface (see report snippet below).
I think this is down to the fact that I am not using the user clock output from the MIG, but the original system clock to register the read data.
Is it possible to effectively de-skew the two clocks?
    Regards

    Hi
    answer q1
This error because your second node time was greater than node one, this is causing OUI failed in running tar command on second node.
you need to set node 2 time slighter less or equal to node 1 time
    answer q2
yes we can proceed installation with package greater or equal than required

it seems your VMs memory allocation were to small (512MB). I don't think that would be enough to installing rac.

  • Is it possible to grant datasource resume actions to the Operator role?

    Hi gurus,
I'm trying to grant the JDBC datasource suspend/resume action to the 'Operator' role. I understand this is an admin task and the 'Operator' role cannot do this. I've tried to edit weblogic.management.runtime -> JDBCDataSourceRuntime -> suspend/resume policy Mbean via the JMX editor and added the Opertor role in a new policy, but I haven't been successful.
Is it possible to provide a user with a script (which can run as an Admin user), without providing the admin credentials to an operator user, so that he can resume a suspended data source?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
theoretically you could remove the domain admins from the local administrator group. BUT this you should first test in a lab to see what happens after removal on the SCOM server.

  • Suspend resume failed - crashed xorg

    Hello,
I've just installed Archlinux on Macbook Pro (9,2).
Everything is almost find but I have troubles with suspend/resume.
It should work out-of-box but it doesn't.
Resume from suspend doesn't work - there is always KDM login screen shown, because Xorg crash during resume.
    From xorg log:
        [   591.393] (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument
    From journalctl:
Oct 02 10:36:16 mek systemd[1491]: Failed to open private bus connection: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/1000/dbus/user_bus_socket: No such file or directory
There might be some connection with this problem:  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=170008 ?
    Thanks for help!

    Hi,
there is one similarity with the linked problem and my problem. The error from journactl:
Failed to open private bus connection: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/1000/dbus/user_bus_socket: No such file or direc
But it's true that root cause for the linked problem is something different. I just thought that there could be some hint or something...
About the workaround, you mean this script:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 2#p1331782
    Doesn't work for me unfortunately
Right now I'm searching and googling how to fix the error from journalctl.

  • Clusterware Installation - Clock Skew and Packages Issue?

    Hi,
Can someone share how to resolve installation issues in Clusterware10.2,

    rac2 - VM Centos4.7, 512 RAM
Both VMs are located on Windows XP physical box.

  • OWSM Gateway Policy - Clock Skew

    Hi,
We have a difference between our system clock and an incoming SOAP message header timestamp.
<wsu:Created> is well in advance of our system clock. Is there any way we can apply clock-skew setting to OWSM to stop the failure? Can't find anything in documentation.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Anybody got any ideas on this please? We have logged a call with Oracle Support, but were hoping someone on the forum may have encountered this? Obvious answer would be to synch clocks, but that is not possible unfortunately!
    Thanks

  • Suspend / resume and oss problems

After supend and resume my sound is not working. soundoff and soundon returns back to useable state.
but soundoff says that all applications that are using the driver have to be closed. In my case these are skype and knotify4.
Is there a better possibility than killing skype and knotify4 everytime I suspend the machine?
    Any suggestions are highly appreciated..

Netctl-auto works fine ...you don't need to mess with it between suspend resume cycles even when moving between known networks. I have found it to be a bit fragile when moving to a new network. If you have trouble setting it up I will help when I get back to my computer.

  • Suspend + Resume crashes

I moved from Ubuntu to Arch today on my main computer in an effort to curb a problem I have been having:
On Ubuntu, every once in a while when I would suspend + resume, the computer would freeze upon resume. Now, with Arch it has yet to suspend and not crash on resume. This leads me to believe it is a hardware problem relating to the newer kernel (it didn't happen on Ubuntu 11.10 which had an older kernel).

    Here is my pm-suspend.log: http://pastebin.com/W1Hv0xm8
And the everything log from starting to suspend to right before I had to reboot (it got to the gnome desktop, but only displayed the clock and the desktop background, nothing else. Also, the keyboard was unresponsive (numlock didn't flash light, ctrl-alt-f1 didn't drop me to a tty): http://pastebin.com/WXjDPQW9
My processor is a Core i5-2500K and my Mobo is an ASRock Z68 Pro3-M.
I really like Arch compared to Ubuntu if only for the download speeds from the repositories (and overall faster boot/shutdown times) and I really would like to not have to switch back. Can anyone help?

It didn't resume after using startx either.
I assume its some problem with X? Whenever going into runlevel 5 it seems like a point of no return for making suspend work. Since it failed even when gdm wasn't started I guess that means the problem is at a lower level than gnome.
Another odd thing: I noticed very once in a while that when resuming it almost seems like my motherboard is hanging because none of the USB devices get power. This doesn't happen every time, but only once in a while. Also, the DVI output on the motherboard also sometimes doesn't give me output. I'm going to attempt once more to update my bios (I can't ever seem to get it to see the BIOS update file on my flash drive per these instructions.
EDIT: It successfully resumed after the BIOS upgrade! I went from v. 1.50 to 2.20 (there were many revisions between, but I hadn't kept myself up to date).

  • Suspend / Resume works only once

I have suspend / resume working flawlessly on a Dell Inspiron 8500, but it will only work one time. The 2nd time I try the laptop will suspend, but I am presented with a black screen on the resume. I can toggle Caps Lock, but cannot force an X restart or toggle to console. I have discovered that if I restart X after the first resume there is no problem. I need a little help working out how I can solve this. I am not really sure what I need to do. I have only ever had this working on a couple of distro's and lately I have been sticking more and more on Arch.
    So questions:
What steps can I take to troubleshoot this problem?
    What can I try ?
It seems like something is corrupted after the first resume and causes a problem on the second. What is likely to be the cause of this?
As I have poor support for LCD and DPMS using the open nv driver, I am running nvidia.
    thanks for any input.

    Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I am actually using pm-utils for suspend, but installed hibernate-script and tried running hibernate with SwitchToTextMode Yes and got the same problem.
As soon as the machine powerbutton is pressed to resume the laptop is unresponsive with a black screen. The only solution is to power off. I also tried the sysrq magic, but that would not work.
With both hibernate or pm-utils the first suspend / resume cycle works without a problem.
I tried pm-suspend with some of the vbe options, but none were able to resolve the issue.
I have checked X logs and hibernate / pm logs and all are clean. I don't believe that the resume part is logged. If there is a way of troubleshooting the resume it maybe of help.
    thanks
    Dan

  • OS X - Fix for wifi disconnect after suspend/resume

OS X - Fix for wifi disconnect after suspend/resume
I've purchased a Mac recently and since upgrading to Maverick have been having some problem with wifi after suspend/resume. Looking into the issue, I've found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5495375 and some people have reported that turning off bluetooth did fix the issue.
For my case, this was not possible, so I've tried to make a little fix, that disable bluetooth on suspend and enable it on wake, but with a 10 seconds delay, in order to let the wifi connect successfully.
Here is my github repo for anyone to look at the code: https://github.com/Setsuna666/osx-wifibtfix
Here is the latest version of the fix, which include an uninstall script: https://github.com/Setsuna666/osx-wifibtfix/archive/v1.0.2.zip
If you have any questions or issues, please post it here so it can be easier for me to keep track of.

    Installed properly this time:
It appears to work, when I resume from sleep the Bluetooth icon is off (gray) and wifi connects, after 10s Bluetooth icon comes on again.
    Here is the correct output:

    Hi Matthew,
As mentioned previously, this KnowledgeBase article may be of some help. Also, if your code is being run on an embedded controller and then a network controller (not embedded), you will need to run the program differently. On the embedded controller, you should deploy your VI in a Project Explorer or programmatically (as described here.) However, you do not need to deploy the program to a network controller, but simply run the VI.
I would also suggest creating a new .IAK file. Do you still see the same error? Also, double-check that the software installed on the controller matches the software installed on the host PC. If you have any file paths associated with one FieldPoint controller, ensure that you are changing them to match the second controller.
Please keep us posted on your troubleshooting steps. Have a great day!
