Clock/time incorrect after upgrade to bootcamp 5 running windows 8-64

Since I did the upgrade to bootcamp 5 running windows 8-64, (which solved all the previous problems), the clock/time changes by itself to be off by hours frequently throughout the day.

I'd suggest you upgrade to OSB10.4.0.1.0 release.
Webtool taking ages is probably related to some other OS issue, check /var/log/messages and whatever and check your DNS settings are all correct.
What about obtool commands, are they also slow?
Thanks

  • 20" imac won't restart after rebooting under bootcamp running Windows XP. I get a black DOS screen with an error message.

My imac has been running without problems under OS X Snow Leopard and bootcamp running Windows XP for a long time. I had received a Sony MP3 player and wanted to install the software on my computer. At the time I had a CD in my drive slot because I was getting ready to install some brother's software for a printer I wanted to use. I restarted my imac under bootcamp and started installing the Sony software in Windows XP. I was having problems with the install  and decided to restart XP to see if that would help. It's been several days since this originally happened so I'm not of sure of any more specifics at this point other than I've had to use windows machines for a long time and know that basically when in doubt "restart".
When my imac was restarting I heard everything spinning up, the white light came on, but I heard no chime, a blue screen came up for about 15 to 30 sec. and then it went to a black screen with DOS characters giving the following message:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file.
I do have a copy of Windows XP, but my first problem was that I still had a CD in the slot and it would not eject. I tried every keyboard combination I could find including: eject button, F12 and holding down the mouse button at start-up and nothing worked. I also tried every other start-up keyboard combination I could find at Apple Support jut to see if I could get my imac to start up under OS X . I finally went on youtube to find out how to remove the CD. I ended up opening up my imac and taking off the cover of the CD drive to remove the disk. After putting everything back together I put in my Windows CD and tried restarting again. The exact same thing happened and I ended up at the DOS screen. Then I thought maybe my keyboard wasn't working so I replaced it with a new one. Same result. I also thought to plug both of my apple keyboards into my windows 8 laptop (hate it!) to see if they worked there at all. They both did so I'm sure the keyboards are not the problem.
At this point, since I do now have a windows 8 laptop (hate it!) there is no remaining reason for me to keep a bootcamp partition on my hard drive. My question is where do I go from here? I have a current time machine back-up on an external hard drive and I have my install CD for OS X Snow Leopard. How do I get my imac back up and running? Thanks.

Can you OPTION boot? If so, then choose the OS X volume to boot back into OS X. From there you can use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Windows volume and restore the drive.
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Can I run a windows software program taht is on a CD on my macbook pro after I install bootcamp and windows xp home?

Can I run a windows software program that is on a CD on my macbook pro after I install bootcamp and windows xp home?

    genepaquin,
the last MacBook Pros that supported installing Windows XP in a Boot Camp partition are the Mid 2010 models. If your MacBook Pro is newer than that, and you don’t have a newer version of Windows to install into a Boot Camp partition on your MacBook Pro, then you might consider an alternative such as running Windows with the help of programs such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop rather than through Boot Camp.

  • Select after upgrade 9i - 10g runs slowly thousand times - urgent

I have select which runs around one second on Oracle 9. After upgrade to 10g this select runs more than two hours. I compute statistics on all tables, all columns and all indexes. This select consist from two parts - every part run on oracle 10g around 0.5 second but together more than 2 hours. When I rewrite it using WITH clausule, it runs 2 second. But I don't want to rewrite selects .. I want to find why it runs slow on 10g.

    Vlada,
could you please post an properly formatted explain plan output using DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY including the "Predicate Information" section below the plan to provide more details regarding your statement. Please use the \[code\] and \[code\] tags to enhance readability of the output provided:
    In SQL*Plus:
    SET LINESIZE 130
    EXPLAIN PLAN FOR <your statement>;
SELECT * FROM TABLE(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY);In order to get a better understanding where your statement spends the time you might want to turn on SQL trace as described here:
[When your query takes too long|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=501834]
and post the "tkprof" output here, too.
Could you also provide the information which version of 10g you're currently using? (4-digit version number). Note that 10g introduced a couple of significant changes including CPU costing enabled by default and a different default setting of DBMS_STATS regarding column histograms.
So you might want to re-gather the statistics using the method_opt parameter of the DBMS_STATS.GATHER__STATS procedures explicitly defined as "FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE 1" to mimic the 9i behaviour.
You also might want to try the "OPTIMIZER_FEATURES_ENABLE" session setting set to "9.2.0" in order to find out if any of the new optimizer features could be causing the issue if re-gathering the statistics as suggested above doesn't make a difference.
Do you know if the tables/indexes in your 9i database also had reasonable statistics?
    Regards,
    Randolf

  • Significant slowdown of Time Machine after upgrade to Lion; indexing problem

After upgrading to Lion over the weekend I notice a significant slowdown of Time Machine processing.  I assumed the first backup or two would take some time but it's been a couple of days.  The process always hangs up at the "Indexing backup" stage.  It takes a couple of hours to finish.
I found several threads relating to slowed down backups on Lion, most seem to hang at the "Preparing" stage (not the same symptom) but I did find some good diagnostic pointers.  I installed the widget to see what kind of messages were being produced and found a few dozen "Waiting for index to be ready (100)" messages at the end of the stream.  Further research - this is not a good thing :-)  It seems a couple of such messages can be ok, but this many usually indicates a problem.  I'm going to discount the possibility of a hardware failure because everything was perfectly fine up to the point I made the upgrade.  Plus the prepare and copy seem to proceed at the expected speed (I watched the most recent cycle just to be sure).
Here is the full message log (it's still running at the moment):

I further found the advice and instructions on how to run the disk utility on the sparsebundle.  I did a verify and repair, and the results came back that the drive appears to be ok (it did not say that it explicitly repaired anything).
    But the problem remains.
I use a 1TB Time Capsule with plenty of free capacity (only half full).  The TC and my MacBook are both hardwired into the home network, networking speed has never been an issue.
I'd sure hate to delete the backup file and start from scratch, there's over a year's worth of data there and I have, occassionally, wanted to go in there and pick up a downlevel or subsequently deleted file.
Any advice on other diagnostics or repair options to take?  Thanks!
    Paul

After posting I decided to keep trying to slog my way through the troubleshooting guide.  Some of the steps are beyond my understanding but I did follow the advice in #D2 to delete the .Spotlight-V100 file from the sparsebundle.  That action does seem to have done the trick, the backups are now completing in normal time.  I ran a couple just to be sure.  I've verified the backups with BackupLoupe and entered the Time Machine, all appears to be in order and as expected.  The only odd side effect is that the backup volume is no longer ejected after completion but that might just be an artifact of all my mounting/de-mounting and playing with Finder.  Anyway a very small price to pay for what looks to be a working system again.
Hopefully the good behavior will last through a few days and a few reboots :-)

  • Problem with Time Capsule after upgrading to firmware 7.6.1

I am currently using Time Capsule Firmware 7.6 and just upgraded to 7.6.1. After the upgrade, my IPad 2 cannot access iTune, App Store and Safari cannot access any web-site. Email and other Apps which require Internet access have no problem with connection. My other Apple devices like iPhone and Mac Pro have no problem with Internet access and can access App Store, and Safari can access web site as normal.
I tried to downgrade the Firmware back to 7.6. After the downgrade, iPad 2 can now access iTune and App Store. However, Internet access via Ipad 2 is very slow, at only 1M download and 0.2M upload Internet speed. The same issue occur with my other iPad 1 too. When I check Internet speed on iPhone 4 and Mac Pro, the result is normal, at 25M download internet speed.
Please let me know how I can resolve this problem.

I just read other discussion treads on Time Capsule Firmware upgrade to 7.6.1. It seems the whole community is having the same issue ie slow Internet connection speed and even some users are reporting unstable connection. If Apple is reading these treads, Apple should do something to either stop allowing the Firmware upgrade to 7.6.1 or rectify the issue with another Firmware upgrade without this problem.
If Apple has read and is not taking any action, then, we all should question what exactly is the management hired for?

  • Battery time wrong after upgrading to new conky

I use conky and have a section which tells me if the battery is active and if so what's the percentage and how long do i have left until the battery dies.   It was working fine, with the right time estimation until i upgraded to the new conky version a few days ago and now the time estimation for the battery is all wrong.  Now when my battery is like 90 percent full it tells me that there is only around 30 minutes left, but of course the battery will last for much longer and checking powertop estimate I still have around 4 hours left.  Anyone having this problem after upgrading to the newer conky?
    Vincent

I have a similar problem. There are a number of conky scripts that I use, and they can all be found at http://vredfreak.atspace.com/projects.html , for instance the gmail check, and the weather, and new arch updates.  But after the last update it does not display the whole information, but only a part. So in the e-mail section it only lists "two and a half" and the archlinux new packages section only lists about 6. I have no idea how to fix this.

  • Problems with Time Capsule after upgrade to 10.7.5 & firmware on Time Capsule

I got a software update to 10.7.5.   There was also a firmware update to Time capsule.  It won't work now.  I get the error message of (-1).  They tell me it's a Western Digital software driver.  I never had a western digital drive, but must have migrated the driver from an older computer.      I did have an Iomega drive on that computer, but no Western Digital.
Support has not been able to help me.    Any suggestions?

I've worked on this over the weekend with Apple Support.   I'm now on my fourth advisor, who is a tier 3 resource. Over the weekend I've downloaded the patch, erased the Time Capsule, reset it to factory settings, plugged it into ethernet, renamed the Time Capsule, the airport network & my computer and still don't have a functioning Time Capsule after a very 'Microsoft' weekend of waiting for several backups to bomb.
The only reason I'm on Lion is that I was a MobileMe customer and wanted to keep my email address.   I'm now thinking of getting a personal domain email, i.e. [email protected], dumping iCloud which really doesn't have any value to me, and in fact has less functionality that I need than MobileMe had, and reloading Snow Leopard.
That, or I can stop trying to fix Time Capsule, use third-party local drives until Apple gets around to fixing Lion.
Another 'feature' I've also discovered is that I can no longer take a Pages document and send a Mail message converting the document to PDF reliably.   It now works some of the time.
I've been one of 'the faithful' who's had Apple products since 1987 and loved them.   I stuck with Apple through the 'Soda Jerk' years and that european dude.   I'm hoping that Lion is some weird product anomaly and that Apple will improve it's product quality to where it used to be.    Also, not force people into product upgrades by not restricting features on new releases like Mountain Lion to machines less than 3 years old.   There really will not be any place else to go unless Google gets into hardware.

  • Ipad keeps saying passcode is incorrect after upgrade to ios6

Just purchased new iPad, after upgrading to ios6 it will not accept my passcode?  Any tips?

Have you tried rebooting your iPad and hopefully a system reset would clear this issue up?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
However, if you can't get the iPad to accept the Passcode, you will have to restore it.

  • Cannot eject USB HDD that is being used for Time Machine after upgrading to Lion

After upgrading to Lion from SL, I have had only one issue.  Amazing!  Great job Apple with making the process smooth, but my issue is this.  Ever since the upgrade, I cannot eject the external USB HDD that I use for Time Machine.  I get the following error:
The disk "Time Machine" wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it.  To eject the disk immediately, click the Force Eject button.  There is the little spinning fan and the message "Trying to eject" and then the fan disappears and where it said, "To eject the disk immediately..." it now says "You can try to eject the disk again or click Force Eject to eject it immediately."  I can click Force Eject and it will work, but seems like there is an issue that needs to be addressed.  Any thoughts anyone?

Ok, I think there's a slightly better way, but try this:
Open the Terminal app (in your Applications/Utilities folder). Be very careful with this app.  It's a direct link into UNIX, the underpinnings of OSX, but without the protections of OSX.
In Terminal, the prompt looks like this: <Computer Name>:~ <your name>$
(where <your name> is your short user name).  It's followed by a non-blinking block cursor.
Copy the following after the prompt:
              lsof |grep
and leave a space.  Then drag the Backups.backupdb folder on the TM drive from a Finder window into the Terminal window (Terminal will convert that into a "path").
    Press Return.
You should get a list of geeky stuff; but the first thing on the next line should be the process that's using the drive (Finder in the sample), followed by another prompt:

  • Missing photos in Time Machine after upgrading to Lion 10.7.2.

After upgrading to Mac OS X LION 10.7.2. (11c74) all my photos are missing when I open TimeMachine.
There is only a iPhoto icon - NO PHOTOS.
    Where are they?  Heeeelp

    olegz,
First, thanks for the clear graphics.
Authorization seems to be the hangup here. But instead of dealing with the complications of conflicts in authorization, which might take several weeks to months to iron out - site by site - I urge you to follow a different path.
It looks like you're using Chrome. For this site alone, use either Safari or Firefox, both of which are more likely to have plugins to deal with authorizing your site. Safari is already on your computer, but v.3 of Firefox is stable, too. Frankly, I can't tell you what specifically might be the problem here; but switching browsers will solve the immediate problem.
Sound good? Not so good? Post in this thread so that I or others can solve your problem once and for all!

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, Windows doesn't work

    Hello,
I've just upgraded my computer to Mountain Lion (from Leopard) and Microsoft windows 'the Power PC applications are no longer supported'.  I've tried to download different version of Microsoft windows - still doesn't work.  Help!?
I'm aware that this question may have been posted but somehow can't access the main community room.
    Thanks
    Odyle

You can't run Windows on a Mac unless you use BootCamp or a third-party utility such as Parallels Desktop.
Perhaps you mean Microsoft Word (which is part of the MSOffice suite).
Only MSOffice 2008 and later will run in Mountain Lion.
However there are very good free alternatives, such as LibreOffice.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 update won't open after installing on PC running Windows XP

I just installed the new version of Palm Desktop 6.2 on my Dell laptop running Windows XP Media Center to upgrade it from the older version and it won't open up. Whenever I try to open the application the message "Palm Desktop by ACCESS Application has encountered a problem and needs to close..." I've tried reinstalling the application but that doesn't help. I've also tried using the "Repair" of the installation to "Repair installation errors in the program." and it hasn't helped either. All my data on my Palm Centro is still there but I can't get Palm Desktop to open up. I want to get Palm Desktop to open up.

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is not an upgrade to 4.x!   It was designed to fix the things Microsoft broke when Vista was born.
It lacks many features that existed for many years in the 4.x versions.
I'd suggest doing a Clean Uninstall and reinstall your original version!

  • Can bootcamp run Windows 8 Pro in OSX 10.8.2?

Can Mac OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.2) run "Windows 8 Pro" in Bootcamp? Since Windows 8 Pro has the ability to run program from passed versions of Windows. This way Windows 8 Pro can run Bootcamp, even though it was made for Windows XP/Vista/7 specificly.
I need to know whether it can damage my MAC, or I am able to install Windows 8 Pro.
    Thanks guys.

Windows 8 is not supported by Bootcamp. There are no Bootcamp Windows 8 drivers http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899
