Clone a Document

Question

Hi, experts!
Would someone help me?
I use org.w3c.dom.Document and I need to clone
a Document to the new one.
Here is the sample of my code:
Document sourceDocument = parser.getDocument();
CloneableDocument cd = (CloneableDocument) sourceDocument;
// during the execution, exception would be
// thrown after executing above line !!!
// java.lang.ClassCastException:
// org.apache.xerxes.dom.DeferredDocumentImpl
Document destinationDocument = (Document) cd.clone();
// here I create a new class which implements two interfaces
abstract class CloneableDocument implements Clonable, Document{
public Object Clone(){
try{
return super.clone();
}catch (Exception e) {
System.out.prinln(?Error when cloning!?}

You can't cast your Document to your own class because Document is an interface. You might be able to extend the DefferedDocumentImpl class but I warn you not to do this because it could make your code not work with future implementations of the DOM. There is a cloneNode method in Node which is the ancestor of Document. You can try that but I haven't had the best luck with it. Make sure you use cloneNode(true);
