Clone Application Server

Hi All
There is an application server and oracle database on same server in same drive in diffrent folder.I wanna clone this structure to diffrent server for test purpose.
I have read http://oraclelon1.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_04/core.1013/b25209/cloning.htm
but I didnt understand exactly. do I need install oracle application server and database software into other machine ? paths must equal ? and What is your suggestions ?

I think this sentence from chapter 9.1 says it all:
"Cloning enables you to create a new installation with all patches applied to it in a single step. This is in contrast to separately installing, configuring and applying any patches to Oracle Application Server."

As part of upgrade I created an exact copy as PORD application server and I dont have any issues with the database server, but i cant bringup the middle tier services as the config files has the same port number as PROD which will conflict, now I want to change the middle tier ports, kindly let me know what is the procedure and if I change the middly tier ports do I need to do any changed at DB tier

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think cloning is fine to copy or clone a middle-tier instance. But for a copy of infrastructure DB one needs to use the chapter next to the referred one.

I have been given a new assignment which involves Oracle Applications server 10g, i am new to oracle application server and hoping that some one will please clarify my doubts.
i have to clone a production machine (Solaris 10) which has oracle AS 10g, this machine had oracle database 10g before and just the application server was installed on it, i have to clone a test environment for this machine, i have the following two doubts
1) Is it possible to just install Oracle Application server 10g on a machine which already contains oracle 10g database, if so then what about the database that gets installed when installing Oracle application server 10g.
2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?

The DB that comes with OAS as the infrastructure DB for it (I presume you are installing a full OAS with infrastructure and midtier both) does not affect the DB you already have on your system ... obviously ... as long as you install them in their separate homes.
2) I always say, this term cloning is somewhat loosely used in general communication meaning making copies. In OAS context, Cloning works for middletiers only. You cannot clone an infrastructure.
To make a redundant/alternate environment for OAS, you can do the following:
- a) either use the same infra on machine 1, and install another midtier and register with the same infra.
- b) or install a separate infra on machine 2, and also a midtier registered with it.
Here for the first option a), Cloning can be used because you can (*only*) clone a middle-tier. There are pros and cons for this setup, including that you share the SSO, and OID, and hence users and groups bases, etc on those two environments - something that you may or may not want. But then there are also some way-outs to avoid them or minimize their effects too. Please see the following reference for cloning and search on Metalink for how to minimize effects, once you get better familiar with the processes.

There are some other ways to export/transport your applications to another instance across DB. Please also read about them.

Oracle 9i Application Server installtion problem

hi,
I am instsalling Oracle 9i Application server 9.0.2 on Red Hat Linux 8.0 During installation , While
creating clone database i am getting an error
Create Controlfile failed.
After this when i open the file cloneDBcreation.log
in /home/admin/iasdb/create directory there i
can see the following error
Create control file failed
Error opening password file "/home/oracle/dbs/orapw"
Unable to obtained file status
Linux error 2 : no such file or directory.
moreover when i open the file customScripts.log in same directory i can see the message
Unable to open file "/home/oracle/assistants/dbca/admin/autoExtend.sql"
and there is no such file autoExtend.sql
after this i ignore all the errors of clone database creation and continued the installation.
Now while starting up the database i received an error
ora 7212 : sltln : Environment variable can not be
evaluated.
slcpu : times error,unable to get CPU time.
Pl help me. How should i proceed.

If you are installing into Windows 2000, one workaround recommendation by Oracle for this problem is:
Install the latest Windows* 2000 Service Pack patch: http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/
Create a temporary directory on your Intel PentiumÂ® 4 processor server (e.g. \TEMP).
Copy the contents of the Oracle* Server CD to the temporary directory created in step 2.
Search the directory structure created in step 2 for the existence of the filename SYMCJIT.DLL.
Rename each copy of the SYMCJIT.DLL to SYMCJIT.OLD.
Run the SETUP.EXE from the \TEMP\install\win32 directory and install Oracle 8.1.x.
If you have any other questions on this work around, please contact Oracle.

What to install to run reports through application server!

I have to run reports developed in Oracle 6i windows platform on web.
I have to install this application server on Linux operating system.
Kindly help me what components of application server 10gR2 I need to install to configure reports.

I am installing forms and reports services standalone on CentOS 5.Well, CentOS is not certified by Oracle, but it's a Red Hat clone, so you shouldn't have problems.
Nevertheless I have to say that I've never used it for Application Server (I normally use Oracle Linux).
is there any tutorial to install report services standalone on CentOS operating system?Follow the Linux Red Hat sections within above link.

Application Server 10g r2 (Replication)

Hello All,
We are planning to migrate from single instance DB to RAC in a few days, As far as my DB server is concerned once oracle clusterware is installed and configured my DB should failover to next node in case of any failures, but how do i make sure Middle Tier including my Application files is also available in such cases, how do i replicate Application server including Application files ? Please see details as below :
Current setup :
Oracle Application Server 10g - 10.1.2.0.2
OS - Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (32 - bit)
Target Setup :
Oracle Application Server 10g - ?? What version should be needed for my target setup, please provide link if possible and does it support target OS.
OS - Windows 2008 R2 (64 - bit)
Please let me know if further information is needed with respect to above request .

Hi,
So this means to have a spare machine for middletier always. Or for my case i could just install OAS on both nodes (standalones at the moment) and then start with RAC setup, Iam not getting the order at all. We have two new servers with Win 2008 r2 64-bit for the target setup here is our current setup :
DB server on server 1 with win 2003 r2 32-bit
APPLICATION SERVER 10G on server 2 with 2003 r2 32-bit
Target setup has 2 new servers with OS installed and is expected as follows :
DB server with OAS on node1 with win 2008 r2 64-bit
DB server with OAS on node2 with win 2008 r2 64-bit
These nodes will be interconnected to achieve Oracle RAC setup. But how do i do all this. Is following sequence right :
a) Setup OAS on standalone server 1
b) Setup OAS on standalone server 2
c) Or clone a) to b)
d) Setup oracle cluster
e) install DB server and restore.

Application server on a XI system

Hi Guys
We have installed an Application server on a XI system. Now we have a serious problem.
Now I see in Visual Administrator 2 Dispatcher and 2 Server. Basically The App server created his own Server in Visual Administrator. My Server 0_0 runs on port 50004. My Server 0_2 runs on port 50204. The JCo`s and everything is the same on the 2 Servers. Basically Server 0_2 clone Server 0_0.
The problem we have is: The primary Dispatcher that Xi is using is the one of the App server. When Xi starts running the files it is specifically looking for port 50204.
Can anyone please tell me where I can change this? So that the primary port 50004 can be used?

Problem solve

SuperDuper Clone of Server Won't work - Ideas?

I was going to move my existing 10.6.1 server install from one Mac Mini to a different one. With the existing server not running (only mounted as targetdisk mode/Firewire), I used Superduper to clone the working server to the new Mac Mini.
The new Mac Mini then starts up fine, however Open Directory is corrupted and all the accounts are missing.
Ideas as to why this isn't working? I've never had a direct clone not work before.

Application server Disaster Backup

Hello all,
Is there any way to do a complete backup of all application server and put on tape for disaster like something like rman for database?
I know cloning for app server, but if I want do weekly disaster backup, is it reasonable to run pre-clone, clone and put on tape every week?

Yes, you can tar and zip the files for the application server files to tape.
Also, Oracle 10g Application Server provides a backup and restore utilty in the format of a shell script called
bkp_restore.sh on Linux/UNIX platform and bkp_restore.bat on Windows.
