Clone brush cross image?
Is there a way in aperture 3 to use the clone tool between images?
For instance, in Photoshop I can open 2 images and use one image as the source and the other as the destination for the clone tool.
I've tried getting 2 images side by side using multi-view, but it only lets me select the current image as the clone brush source...
as a follow-up to this... I just discovered how aperture lets you define an external editor! Very nice! I can now define Ps CS4 as the external editor and when I edit via CS4 (when I need extra control), it creates a copy inside the aperture library and opens it in CS4 while putting the new image (psd, or whatever I want) in a stack with the original! Very COOL!
That was the tipping point for me. Ordered my full copy on amazon today!

Strange lines using healing brush/clone brush.
This happens to me all the time using the healing brush or cloning tool. I allready turned gpu accelleration off but it still exists! Also updated graphics card drivers. No go.
It exists on both machines, using different graphics cards and different cpu's.
I am using windows 8, windows 7 and photoshop cs6 extended.
It doesn't seem to be a gpu problem since i turned that off.
Hope someone can point me to a solution.I've been running into this exact same problem with the healing/clone brush. Where do I go to turn off the "windowtabs" tool? I'm using PS CS6 with Win 7.
Update:
Googled WindowTabs tool. From what I found, I don't believe that I have this "tool" loaded on my puter. Searched my drives for windowtabs and found nothing. If it's not on my puter, something else is causing the issues with the PS healing brush/clone tools. In my situation, the brush "selects" other areas than I'm trying to fix, but not every time. Very frustrating, especially when you discover "damage" to parts of the image that can't be undone by going back far enough to undo the damage. I have to watch closely as I make my selections to make sure that the area I selected was actually done correctly. Love the tools, but I hate having my work flow slowed down by having to watch for their erratic behavior.

Hi all, I write from Milan and I call the help of the masters of Photoshop digital retouch to solve my issue.
pre info:
i use mac OSX 10.6.8
Photoshop cs5 12.1
When I retouch skins with the clone brush and I have to draw on medium tones with a small brush I easily lose the visibility of the cursor.
Over dark and bright tones the contrast of the cursor with the skin is high and i dont have problems.
I tried to change the cursor's preferences but it didn't help, so i ask if there are some tricks like this:
change the treshold of switching black/white cursor to a brighter value, i think it switchs near 50% of color Brightness, if i could change that value near 30% my problem is over.
or
looking at the aspect of the cursor i see that is built with a white dominant and a black outline and viceversa black dominant and white outline, it could be a 3 lines profile?
black > white < black
or
white > black < white
i dont like it!
Can it be only white or black?
i try to attach an image to make you simply understand the issue.
BYEEEEEEEEEE ALL!Interesting. Your screen grab shows the cursor far less vividly than what I see here... I composited several captures showing my cursor next to yours on your image...
I'm using a Windows 7 system on a PC. It seems Photoshop's cursor handling must be pretty different on a Mac.
Do you have OpenGL Drawing enabled (look in Edit - Preferences - Performance)?
One thing you can usually do is press the Space Bar briefly, will temporarily show you a Hand cursor instead of the brush outline. Perhaps that will help.

I have a new MacBook Air i7 that performs great in Aperture 3 except for in the Clone brush. When I try to brush in a clone, the adjustment happens in a different place than where my cursor is located. Any ideas?
MBAs are the weakest of the 2011 hardware choices, especially as regards graphics - and Aperture has always heavily utilized graphics. Apps like Photoshop and Aperture typically show up weak hardware support via anomalous behavior with large brushes.
Maybe it is a "bug" but my guess is that folks are just observing the consequences of lower end hardware - - just like we have observed with PS for decades.

How to use retouch/clone brushes with loupe staying over the object
I would like to keep the loupe stationary over an object while I use my Aperture retouch/clone brush. Help!
3 Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
Example:
Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward: Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.G
Your display obviously is not like mine as mine does not dosplay the port associated with the ip address
whatever, the STB's start at 192.168.1.100 and icement by 1 for each
the port addr's will be 63145 alo incrementing by 1
there is 1 entry for each in my pf list
however each ip addr also has a port entry starting at 35000 also incrementing by 1 for each ip addr
For some unknow reason these are duplicated e.g I appear to have 11 entries exaactly the same for each stb and as the fios services rules have no action switc there is nowhere to delete the extraneous garbage.
Why do you clone the mac addr?? -
Can a section of one image be cloned to another image?
I have a portrait shoot where best image has ladies nametag on her dress. I have other images where she is not wearing the nametag. Underneath there is a collar and I need to clone that section to replace the nametag.
Would be great if could clone from one image to the other.....

Not in Aperture. You need a graphics program to do compositing. Any of them can do what you want.
Roughly, Aperture is for storing and organizing your digital photos, and developing them into the best possible pictures based on your digital negative (the file you imported). If you want to combine photos or parts of photos, or photos and text, or photos and geometric shapes, you'll need a plug-in or an external editor.
I say "roughly" because there are things Aperture does which blurs the boundary between image development and compositing -- such as cloning pixels from one part of an Image to another, adding watermarks at export, etc.
The standard practice is to use plug-ins or external editors for what you want. There are many -- they are all good, but vary greatly in price and features (and time to master ). -
Why is clone brush slowing and lagging?
Before I explain my Lightroom issue, I want to describe my hardware platform because it may be relevant to solving my problem.
Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 mghz cpu
8 gigs Corsair ram
New Invidia EGVA GeForce 750 Ti with 2 gigs (video card)
Corsair 520 watt power supply
4 internal hard drives, all running at 7200 rpm
1 Samsung 250 gig SSD (sold state drive)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, Svc pak 1
Lightroom 5.7
For the last several months I have been working with scanned 35mm slides. These, in some cases, are more than 60 years old. Time and dust have taken their toll and in doing so have provided me with many hours of Lightroom work. Typically, I am rebalancing color casts, exposures, tonal aberrations, noise induced by a careless scanning company, i.e. the usual types of edits one would perform in LR. Additionally, because of dust spots and emulsion abrasions on the slides, I am also making significant use of the Spot Healing Brush, which I use in the clone mode. This is a mighty fine and powerful tool which has allowed me to resurrect many a damaged image.
The scanned slides were returned to me as JPGs, which I have turned into TIF files to help them survive multiple edits and saves. The TIF files I am working with are mostly in the range of 40-45 mbytes.
Here’s my problem. About two weeks ago I began to notice that the more edits I performed on an individual file, the slower and more erratic the clone spotting brush became. This slowdown progressed from a near instantaneous selection and application of a clone patch to a crawling 3 to 4 seconds for the system to select a clone patch with up to 5 or 6 seconds for the patch to be applied to the defect area. Also, when I call the brush erratic, I mean that it jumps around somewhat not allowing me to position it accurately until the previous clone has been applied. Given the amount of work I still have to do on over 1000 slides, this is a state of affairs that is tough to tolerate.
Some of the slides have more than 60 or 70 edits showing in the History window. The vast majority of those edits on a given slide (I estimate 85% or more) represent individually cloned spots. The slowing typically begins at about 15-20 of these cloning edits and gets progressively worse as they accumulate.
So far I have taken the following steps to try to improve the situation. I have cleared the only LR caches I know about, those being the RAW cache and the video cache, neither of which would seem relevant given their names. I have deleted the History steps of images. I have moved my catalogs to the SSD drive. None of this has had a noticeable effect on the situation.
My question is: What’s going on here?
Are clone edits different from other edits in the way they are stored/written/cached?
Are edits typically written immediately to the catalog, or are they cached in ram or in the cpu cache?
What else could be happening to cause this behavior?
I am willing to upgrade my hardware. In fact I have ordered an Intel i7 cpu and appropriate motherboard and 16 gigs of ram. However, before I open these boxes I need more assurance that this upgrade will actually help the condition I am describing and that it is not some kind of hard limitation of Lightroom itself that will remain unrelieved by the upgrade.
I would welcome responses from anyone who could really explain what’s happening, particularly from Adobe staff. Thanks in advance for your help.
Bill GordonHere’s my problem. About two weeks ago I began to notice that the more edits I performed on an individual file, the slower and more erratic the clone spotting brush became.
This is a known issue with Lightroom. Lots of cloning or brushing will cause Lightroom to slow down.
There really isn't much to do about this. You could either:
Get a faster CPU, which should speed things up (whether or not it speeds up enough is unknown)
Do the cloning and brushing in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, where there should be no speed issues in performing these tasks -
Wrong Mouse Pointer for Adjustment Brush with Image on External Drive
Adjustment brush guide "circles" is not visible when hovering over the image. It is only visible when you are to the side of the image in the gray space. This only happens when I am using Lightroom from my external drive. It does not happen from the local copy.
After some research, the brush preset I created happened to have the same settings as "skin smooth +" in Lightroom, which is the one it kept switching to. Perhaps that was the problem...

Why can't I click and drag clone brush??
I'm working with a trial version of Aperture and trying to clone out a couple of annoying background details. When I use the clone tool, I cannot click and drag or "paint" with it. I only get a circular clone that is the diameter of the brush. I don't want to clone out the problem areas with a bunch of little circles! I want a smooth, painted cloned area. Is this possible with Aperture or do I need to go back to Photoshop....
OK--Think I finally discovered the issue. I'm using a trackball and keyboard setup from Euphonix that communicates with the Mac via Ethernet and TCP/IP. Aperture cannot deal with mouse strokes transmitted this way. If I switch to a USB mouse connected directly to the Mac, the brushes work normally. Still a disappointment since the Euphonix is my default keyboard/mouse and I don't really want to keep a separate USB mouse hooked up.....

RMAN clone; Avoid backup image
Oracle 10.2.0.5
When cloning databases with RMAN on ASM, it creates a backup image before restoring the backup to a clone. Whenever I clone a database, I need double amount of storage to do it.
Is there way to clone a database in ASM and avoid the additional backup image?
I appreciate the help.
Thank youHi Philippe,
I really appreciate your post, doing things that seem impossible to be possible. (such as to duplicate (online) a database in 10g without restore). :)
I decided to complement your post doing duplicate using ASM.
I did not make step by step, but for any Senior DBA can understand.
P.S: For All:
Be very careful to do this using ASM because you can damage or remove your target database if the parameters(init<instance_name>.ora) are not configured correctly.
I created/used a different diskgroup from that used by the target database, for precaution and safety.

Displaying a cross image if a field is left blank.
Hai all,
in my application there is a registration form. If the user submits the form without entering any mandatory fields then i can able to display all error messages using <h:messages> tag.
Appart from that i want a cross mark image that should be added before each mandatory fields that are left balnk.
How to solve this problem.
anyone????I'd first try with the enclosed <img> tag.
Put an image into the message tag.
This is quite better as start point.
Otherwise, you would have to create a message tag
with a supplmentary parameter for the image link (or a default image).
This involve tag programming in JSF which is not so easy if you're new to JSF.

Pattern brush with image without gaps?
Hi everyone,
I try to create a patternbrush using an image. Image is created in PS and lines up nice horizontaly. Droping it into Illustrator. From there I drag and drop it onto the brush panel and create a patterbrush. I also include an empty rectangle to control the spacing ( suggested elsewhere ? ). If I apply that brush to a curved path there are always little gaps between the segments. How can I construct the brush without the gaps? There is a denimseam brush within Illustrator that does exactly what I try to achieve except I can not. There is a similar thread around that moves away from the topic after a while and did not help me. I´m new to the program so please have some patience with me
Thanks in advance!
Figured out that the empty rectangle just deforms my image but doesn´t define overlaping. I´m clearly missing something.

It has something to do with the transparency settings. If I place my source image Ai tells me Transparency->no regardless of png transparency enabled. Then if I use Object-> change to pixelwhatever ( mine is a german version... ) I can enable transparency and voila it works. This all strikes me as some kind of odd and really should be claryfied somewhere, perhaps the manual. I will now do some tests to reliably reproduce this and will post here.
Edit: Confirmed. Using the approach above I allways get the same, good results.

Can't Restore with Clone or Disk Image
Hi:
I am unable to restore my internal-drive OS X partition using either a clone of the partition or a disk image of it. Note that Win7 is installed or a separate partition of the internal drive via Boot Camp.
I had a similar problem when making the clone originally. I solved the problem by erasing and then restoring. However, my success may have simply been coincidental with the erase procedure. For obvious reasons, I hesitate to erase my internal-drive OS X partition before trying to restore using either the clone or a disk image.
Any thoughts? Oh, and each restore attempt appears to be working. However, about 1/2 of the way through, the restore fails, and I am told that the "operation is not permitted." The permissions on my internal partition are set to "everyone can read and write."Thanks much for your reply. I have come to believe that one must erase before restoring from a clone or a disk image. I arrived at this conclusion because I purchased SuperDuper, and SuperDuper always erases before restoring a clone. It appears that the option of not erasing when using Disk Utility exists only if the disk already has been erased. I don't recall this being the way things were in my prior incarnations as a Mac user.

Ive just updated to LR 6 from LR 5.
The app seemed to launch ok but as I was looking around none of my photos will open in the developer module, they just have a blue box with white cross??It seems to be something to do with Lightroom 6 accessing the GPU. I had this problem and under the "Performance" tab in "Preferences" (Edit menu), there's a box that says "Use graphics processor". I unticked this box and now the images are displayed in the developer module. I'll need to investigate further to find out why Lightroom is not working with my GPU but at least I can use it now.

Weird cross-imaging image corruption in iPhoto 4.0.3
Hey all,
Ive had a search through this discussion and cant quite find my exact problem but have pretty much decided that rebuilding the library is the way to solve it.
But before I do that, here is my problem:
When I select an Album that Ive created and filled with particular type of shots, it shows most of them correctly but about halfway through the 900 or so images, iPhoto starts to show distorted images from other Albums. The titles and keywords are the same (and correct) and when I open the picture its the correct one.
Now the weird thing is, when I zoom in and out, more or fewer of the images show as the wrong ones until if I zoom in to about 6 images, they are shown correct.
Finally, if I click on the scroll bar to move down through the images when zoomed most of the way out, the images that are wrong very briefly snap to show correctly before snapping back to the incorrect image.
What the **** is going on here ?
Hope someone can help me.How much free space remains on your hard drive? If there's not much left, then a rebuild will likely only make things worse.
