Clone DB to another OS?

Hi:
I have Oracle 11g installed on Windows Server 2003 64 bit (Production), and I want to migrate this DB to another machine with windows server 2003 32 bit (or Windows XP) for testing purpose.
Also I want to check backups -backup sets, dumps- generated from the first OS, I want to check them on the second OS.
What the possibility to do so? Recommendations and suggestions would be appreciated.
Saad,

you can use RMAN to convert from one platform to another platform(cross-platform)
Hope backup sets will be valid, because its oracle internal algorithm , it is not related to OS.

  • Using a clone image on another computer

    I made a clone of my MBP Tiger system using superduper to an external drive before upgrading to Leopard on the MBP.
    I also have a Mac Pro running Leopard.
    I would like to transfer just my emails in Mail from the MBP clone image to my Mail inbox and sent folders on my Mac Pro.
    The rest of the clone doesn't interest me and I plan to wipe it out and create a new clone of the MBP after it is all set up running Leopard.
    Migration assistant didn't seem to allow me to do just this so I didn't use it.
    Can I connect the external drive with the MBP clone image to my Mac Pro and boot from that without creating problems because it is another computer with different hardware?
    Can I then just export those Mail folders and then import them into my Mac Pro's Mail folders?
    If doing it on the Mac Pro is impossible, can I boot from the clone with my MBP now that it is running Leopard and export the Mail folders there then just transfer them to the Mac Pro?
    Thanks for any advice.

    The answer to that is "maybe," but you don't have to boot from it to export folders from it to another drive. As long as the Finder can see it, you can import folders from it to your startup drive.

  • Copy (or clone) database to different computer

    Hi !
    I've an Oracle 10g database on my computer and would like to copy (or clone) it to another computer where Oracle 10g is also installed.
    I read some post and web links but nothing to indicate how to do in that (easier) case.
    And if I only want to copy the base structure, mean without the data, just the table structure ... ?
    Some help ?!
    Thanks.

    The following is an example of using the CONTENT parameter:
    expdp hr/hr DIRECTORY=dpump_dir1 DUMPFILE=hr.dmp CONTENT=METADATA_ONLYThis command will execute a schema-mode export that will unload only the metadata associated with the hr schema. It defaults to a schema-mode export of the hr schema because no export mode is specified.
    export tool write the database scheme in a dumpfile. Yes you have to copy this dumpfile to target database server anf use impdp utility there.
    impdp hr/hr DIRECTORY=dpump_dir1 DUMPFILE=expfull.dmp CONTENT=METADATA_ONLY
    go through

    How to duplicate/clone treenode to another?
    I have build treenode from Actice Directory OU structure to $treeNode1 variable. Now I want to clone it to $treeNode2 variable but I do not know how. Cloning is show-stopped right now.

    Hi,
    I have to say that I am not so clear with what treenode you mean, would you please share your code here and explain more details?
    Do you mean “New-Object Windows.Forms.TreeNode”?  If so, then hope the below links be helpful:

  • Can I use Restore From Memory Card to clone E72

    Hi
    I have two E72s, both have the exact same firmware 091.004. Can I use the "Back Up phone Memory" feature to transfer everything (apps + settings + data) from one E72 to another? I just want to switch to another E72 this way:
    1. On the 1st E72, back up phone memory using File Manager.
    2. Move the SIM card and memory card from the 1st E72 to the 2nd one.
    3. On the 2nd E72, restore phone memory from the backup on the memory card using File Manager.
    Will it allow me to clone everything (like an image) to another E72? Is it officially supported?
    I tried once, some things were missing such as Opera Mini not found, Nokia Evolve theme not enabled, profile settings not applied etc.
    Is there a way to clone everything to another E72?
    Thanks heaps.

  • Best way to clone a hard drive

    I have a windows 8 OS desktop 2 TB HDD. I have Plex installed and use the computer mainly as my media server.
    I have roughly 400 movies. I was wondering if I could remove the HDD, Make an exact copy of it using a "Blac X" drive dock that I have? And what is involved in this if it's possible? I was thinking this would be easier than re-uploading my movies
    to a new HDD if it ever crashes. Thanks in advance for any input.

    Welcome to the forum. Not very clear what your trying to do if you just want a backup you can clone it to another drive but it may be better to clone to an image on the second drive as that way you can keep several backup copies as an image compressed takes up a lot less space. Its better to separate movies from o/s either by partition or disk so you can recover o/s in the fastest time
    Windows backup&restore or some backup software cloud do this. Ghost and aomei backupper I’ve tried.

  • Copying clone drive, then writing back to new drive

    I have a problem. My friend's computer crashed. She has a cloned drive. I would like to know the easiest way (if any) for me to take her cloned drive (A), copy the contents to a temporary drive (B), then copy the copied clone (B) to another drive (C) and send to her.
    Reason being the clone as an Apple drive, and they want the original drive to perform service. So she has to put it back, but before, she wants to take the clone files off and put them on another drive. Will the cloned drive function properly if I just take the files and move them?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

    You MUST clone, not copy. Google for Carbon Copy Cloner. It's free (SuperDuper is feature better, but costs). Clones will work perfectly. Test it before she runs off with it, though. Startup off the new clone.It will take a lot of time. 100 GB about 2-3 hours.

  • Is an iPad backup an exact clone?

    Greetings All
    I need to swap out my iPad for another under warranty. I have had my current device for almost a year and in that time I have arranged the apps and content in a way that works for me. If I back up my device via a PC version of iTunes will I able to perform a restore on the new device and end up with an exact replica of the original device? I understand that the individual components/apps will be backed up, but how about the layouts and the position of the apps within the desktop pages?
    If the iTunes route does not produce an exact clone, is there another way to get my layouts and content back? I am most concerned about a fairly extensive .pdf archive of technical manuals that I carry locally on my device, as content within my G-Drive application. All of the content is backed up to a cloud account and to Google drive, but I need to access the documents when I am offline.  There have been dozens of hours invested in downloading and arranging my documents into a local directory structure and I would hate to have to start over from scratch.
    Thanks
    Addison

    I will answer this question by saying, "in theory" when you restore from the backup, the new iPad should be identical to the old one after restoring and syncing with iTunes. "In theory" is no guarantee that it will work. I have restored from backups more than a few time and it has always worked from me. I have seen other state that it hasn't worked for them.
    Your choices are restore from the backup and take the chance - or don't restore from the backup and start all over again.
    iTunes: About iOS backups - Apple - Support
    This is only part of the information from that kb article that I posted. This says that home screen arrangement will be maintained. Your files should also be arranged the way that they were at the time of the backup.
    iTunes will back up the following information
    Contacts* and Contact Favorites (regularly sync contacts to a computer or cloud service such as iCloud to back them up).
    App Store Application data including in-app purchases (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).
    Application settings, preferences, and data, including documents.
    Autofill for webpages.
    CalDAV and subscribed calendar accounts.
    Calendar accounts.
    Calendar events.
    Call history.
    Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
    Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.
    Game Center account.
    Home screen arrangement.
    Let me add this final note. I restored my iPad to factory settings this past weekend as part of a troubleshooting thing that I wanted to do. I restored from the backup that I created right before I restored the iOS software. The iPad was restored exactly to the way it was after I restored the backup and synced with iTunes.

  • Preferred clone methodology

    Another question I'm hoping somene could weigh in on. We'd like to take our production 10gas infra and midtier and clone it to another pair of machines we can then use as a test/development instance - via the 10gas backup tool or other method.
    I'm a Unix/Linux guy most of the time, and this is on Windows where there is a registry. I don't know how that could be populated correctly without a fresh install of 10gas.
    Also the 10gas backup tool documentation only covers cases where recovery is done to the same machine as the backup was executed against, or another machine with same hostname./IP address.
    Any ideas how best to clone an infra/midtier from one machine to another with different IP/hostname but same physical configuration?

    Hi Mathias
    Thanks for the suggestion - As I can't clone the infrastructure I'd have to do a fresh infra install to lay down the codebase, populate the Windows registry and so forth and then I'd have a new seeded database. I'm not sure how I'd be able to import into that from another infra database and not have it complain, and then try to point a restored (through AS backup and recovery tool) midtier at it. I guess I could try but it seems masochistic!
    I'm pretty well resigned to fresh installs of Infra and Mid, then somehow export the OID stuff from the production environment if I can do that..

  • Clone EM Repository

    Is it possible to clone a 10.2.0.3 grid control repository to another server? I would like to move my repository to another server, but I don't see any information regarding how to do this? Do I need create a new repository on the new server and manually copy over all of my settings?

    The 10.2.0.3 repository is a standard Oracle Enterprise Edition database. You can back it up via RMAN and restore it on the clone instance. You can configure it with Data Guard and do physical or logical replicas if you want live data. You can also create a streams interface to copy the tables that you want replicated if you want to clone it to another architecture.
    I guess the answer is that you can. The question is why. Why clone the database? Disaster recovery - DataGuard or RMAN depending upon your recovery window. Reporting and analysis - DataGuard with logical replica. Development - RMAN.

  • Copying a bootable clone is okay ?

    I done a bootable clone of my mac, is copying the clone on a another back up drive is okay to keep the clone coy still bootable or not ?

    Cloning it again is OK. Drag-copying it won't produce a bootable system.

  • My macbook pro is running slower than normal, is there a way to speed it back up?

    Lately my Macbook pro has been slowing way down. This primarily happens when working in Photoshop (or at least that is where I notice it most) and if I shut down then start back up it is slightly faster. I am an old PC guy and have only been on a Mac for a year now. With PC's you could clean out a cache or do some other things to "clean out the system". Is there something I can do on the Mac to bring the working speed back up to where it was when I bought the system? I have already cleaned out the trash and I transfer most of my images and large file to an external drive so I have over 1/2 my HD space still available.

    Memories Photography PNW wrote:

    1: Max out your RAM. Crucial.com has a excellent method to make sure you get the exact RAM specifications and tells you the amount of RAM slots available (you have two, both filled with the default RAM) Buy your RAM wherever you like of course once you get the information.
    2: If you have a more recent machine, OtherWorld Computing has 16GB of RAM available for $1500 if your game. That would most certainly speed up Photoshop as it wouldn't have to swap the extra memory to the hard drive (slow). I don't know who else sells 16GB of RAM at this time.
    3: You can install a 500GB OCZ Vertex SSD drive and use that as the boot drive, your Photoshop will most certainly scream. But the fastest 500GB OCZ Vertex SSD on the market is $1800. Apple's is slower (needs a new Mac) and is about $1500. You could go with a smaller/faster SSD, but lack significant storage space. SSD's are not 100% erasable and have limited write capacity. You could opt for a 7,200 RPM hard drive replacement and gain some more speed and large storage capicity without breaking the bank.
    4: You can run ALL the maintenance and cleaning aspects of the free OnyX and reboot, that will perform the "cache cleaning" your looking for and perhaps solve something that is messed up and slowing your machine down, but it's not a significant performance enhancer.
    Since your a new Mac user, there is a lot of free "extras" including OnyX, that a Mac user might have great need for, included in this list.

  • How to restore (not duplicate) DB from RAC ASM to non ASM

    Hello everybody,
    i am trying to recover db from RAC+ASM to non ASM no RAC node. I am running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) on Win2003 Server. I have functional backup from my prod system.
    Here are my steps:
    *1. On prod server i make backup running this script in RMAN*
    configure channel device type 'SBT_TAPE' parms'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=e:\backup)';
    RUN {
    backup device type SBT_TAPE database tag zal20081129;
    SQL 'alter system archive log current';
    backup device type SBT_TAPE archivelog ALL tag zal20081129;
    *2. I prepared clon instance on another server (The same Oracle version) and start it to nomount mode.*
    *3. I copied the backup from prod server to clon server to exactly the same path. (e:\backup)*
    *4. I connect to RMAN on my new node and I use the DBID parameter and I restore controlfile.*
    rman
    connect target /
    set DBID 3079749916
    startup nomount
    run {
    allocate CHANNEL CTAPE DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=f:\backup)';
    allocate channel CDISK DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    restore controlfile from 'f:\backup\78k91lrn_1_1';
    alter database mount;
    *5.Then I check the backup, crosscheck etc.*

    So obviouslly database wants to open online logs in the path like ASM. Which is wrong. What should I do to tell database to open it according to init.ora parameters
    *.db_create_file_dest='e:\oradata\agost'
    *.db_create_online_log_dest_1='e:\oradata\agost'
    Any suggestions???
    Thanks

    Hi,
    thanks for you quick answer. But I do restore to the local file system, even if the log says:
    restoring datafile 00001 to +DATA/agost/datafile/system.272.668509367
    restoring datafile 00002 to +DATA/agost/datafile/undotbs1.273.668509387 .....
    all the datafiles are correctly restored. I think oracle uses the parameter db_create_file_dest and creates the files there.
    I tried also the script with SET NEW NAME:
    run {
    Set newname for datafile 1 to 'e:\oradata\AGOST\system.272.668509367';

    dont know what to do.
    There must be way how to recover it. I think my first try (without SET NEWNAME) is closer to the end, there is only need to "repair" the online logs.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Would like to know how to back up iphoto library to external harddrive

    I know this question has been asked and very well answered, but I could not find it in the pop up discussions.  I have copied my library to an external hard drive by dragging and dropping the events into folders.  This works, however is time consuming and all the photos, I think are out of order.  I would like to use the "export library" link in iphoto, but when i do it say something about can't create volumes??  Sorry if this is not as clear as it could be, but I don't think I am the first with this problem.  Links to previous solutions would be great!  I do use time machine as a back up to an external hard drive, but would like to back up the library to a USB also, which I can then put somewhere else.
    I have a Mac Mini  10.6.8. and a sweet new bluetooth keyboard!

    Copy the iPhoto library intact to the EHD  --  or use a incremental program so you can update it without recopying everything - I use Carbon Copy cloner - Superduper is another good one - there are others

  • 24" Intel iMac - Intermittent lack of screen image

    I have a friends 24" iMac which has some performance issues.
    It has been crashing and hanging a lot and occasionally has lines on the screen.
    This could be a logic board or graphics issue, but my first thought was to reinstall the OS from scratch and during this process I have discovered a weird screen issue.
    I began by booting using the original install disc and resetting his password
    I then cloned the internal drive using superduper in preparation for wiping and reinstalling Leopard on the internal drive.
    To achieve this I plugged the iMac and the external drive into my MacBook as a firewire target disk
    (The firewire logo displayed normally on screen)
    I then connected the external drive directly to the iMac and booted from the new clone to test it.
    The apple logo appeared and then the login screen, after entering the password the desktop appeared, but the menu bar was halfway down and only part of the screen was actually displaying anything other than the original blue colour from startup. (It didn't look like a resolution issue)
    I forced a restart and booted from the original internal drive, I was able to hold option and see and select the internal drive, but the computer then proceeded to startup with a black screen
    This behaviour then persisted as I tried to repeat each of the following multiple times
    Reboot while holding C to bootfrom the leopard dvd
    Reboot, choosing external clone drive by holding option
    Reboot while holding option and choosing internal disk
    Reboot while holding option and choosing install dvd disk
    Reboot without holding anything to automatically boot from the internal disk
    At this point I called it a night
    Today I turned on the machine and reset the pram followed by a successful boot using the clone drive and another successful boot using the internal drive so I proceeded to boot from the install disk, erased the internal drive and installed leopard.
    The install proceeded without issue until the progress bar was nearly all the way there at which point I left the room for about half an hour
    On my return the screen was black and I was forced to hold down the power button to restart at which point the grey screen appeared, followed by the apple logo and then the black screen again, but this time I could hear the leopard intro movie playing - it appears that everything is working normally apart from the screen
    I have since held down Command and S to boot into single user modem where the terminal displays correctly on screen.
    I suspect allowing the machine to cool was the reason I had initial success this evening, but what could cause this problem?
    I am thinking a graphics card issue, but does that mean the graphics card is not involved in displaying the firewire target disk logo, single user mode or the different hard disk options available at startup?

    Update:
    Waiting several hours again allowed booting, but something is corrupted because the machine hangs badly (frozen screen and only the cursor moves)
    I think there are BOTH hardware and software problems
    At this moment;
    •The iMac has performance issues with the original setup as received from my friend
    •The iMac has performance issues with the new install of leopard and system migrated user account
    •The iMac no performance issues and only minor graphics performance issues when booted from my MacBook as a Target Disk
    I am posting from it right now and the only issue, which occurred on boot, was some lines on the screen
    I am planning to boot again into the new leopard install, but with a new user account if I can get far enough to create one, otherwise I will enable root and see if that allows the system to run with any stability
    I am expecting an hour or so of use to result in the blank screen issue again.
