Clone DRE / CIFS cache to a new WAE ?

Is there any means to clone the data from one WAE to another. We are going to be replacing our data center WAE as we have grown. Is there no way to prevent our branch locations from losing their DRE / CIFS cache when we upgrade the data center ?

Mike,
Unfortunately, there is no way to clone the DRE/CIFS cache between devices.  One option which may help prime/pre-populate the DRE cache would be to pre-stage these new devices as client side WAEs in a lab environment and preposition the relevant CIFS shares. This will at least get you some of the DRE data relevant to the file servers, instead of having completely cold hits when these new WAEs go into production in the DC.

  • Is there a way to increase the size of the CIFS cache?

I have a site which has a WAVE-574-K9 installed and the CIFS cache is currently running close to the maximum disk size. v
The VB capability of the device is not currently required, so I would like to know if there is any way to free up the portion of disk space which is currently reserved for VB capability & reassign it to the CIFS cache?

  • How can I clone my old macbook to my new Macbook Pro 768GB SSD

    Hi,
I have a 2 year old macbook and have just received my new Macbook Pro Retina dispaly with a 768gb SSD.
How can I clone my old drive to my new Macbook as the unit is sealed so I cant ge the drive out.
    thanks.

Bootable clones can only be used with the same model machine as there are machine specific hardware drivers involved that are different between different models of Mac's.
Probally the fastest way would be to clone the old Mac boot drive to a external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, then connecting it to the new Mac and booting the new Mac (first time) into Setup Assistant and then use that to "migrate" accounts and programs over. Takes a few hours.
Transfering via Wifi does take FOREVER. like several days in some cases.
If you have the new Mac already setup, then use Migration Assitant in the Utilities folder.
However Setup Assistant and Migrations are not perfect and tend to fail badly if you had problems on the older Mac, sometimes these problems are unseen and only until you try to use the new Mac afterwards do they appear.
You might want to opt instead of installing the same name account on the new Mac, installing 10.8 compatible programs from original sources and then use the external clone of the old Mac drive to transfer just user files manually into the same Pcitures, Movies, Documents etc., folders.
Since you have a SSD, you can load programs later, it's hard drives that you want to install programs before user data to run them faster.
Get a cleaner machine doing it manaully that way and you know there is nothing nsaty hidden, like what Setup Assistant and Migrations often transfer.

  • Clone or copy iMac HD to new iMac HD

I'm in the process of getting a divorce. She wants to keep the computer and so do I. If I buy a new iMac can I get all of the information on the old iMac copied over to the new one? The old iMac was purchased in Jan. of 2009.

yes, you can choose to migrate all apps, your user account, your network settings, etc. just don't clone the entire HD to your new machine (as has been said already). i *do not* recommend migrating your iTunes library this way, though (more below).
note you get only *one chance* to use setup assistant (search the forum and you will see that *migration assistant* - the little brother of *setup assistant* - is considered iffy and, more often than not, causes problems on the new Mac) so make sure you follow the instructions from the user tip.
as well as all my iTunes stuff?
as for iTunes, use the following technique:
when you connect your clone drive to your Mac, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the the clone to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on your new Mac, replacing the iTunes folder in place there.
in both points i assume you own the software and the media files !
Do you know if I will need to set up a new iTunes account or if she will?
well, both of you should have your own iTunes store accounts.

  • CCC or Disk Utility to clone a Mac HD of one new iMac to another, over ThunderBolt, we are getting I/O errors. Even though the clone fails, the destination  system does boot and log in, however, the logins take a very very very long time.

When using CCC (Carbon Cophy Cloner) or Disk Utility to clone a Mac HD of one new iMac to another, over ThunderBolt, we are getting I/O errors. Even though the clone fails, the destination  system does boot and log in, however, the logins take a very very very long time.
    Thoughts.
Edit: Already ran Disk Utility. Also reinstalled a fresh OS on top of the cloned OS and it seemed to remedy the problem. Then, cloned to next machine in the row of the lab. Same problem.

OK, by that I assume that you used Disk Utility to repair the subject disk and it reported "The volume (name) appears to be OK" in green.
Also verify you followed the instructions here: http://help.bombich.com/kb/usage-scenarios/i-want-to-clone-my-entire-hard-drive- to-a-new-hard-drive-or-a-new-machine
If so, the Thunderbolt connection begins to look suspicious.
Reinstalling OS X subsequent to the "clone" operation may be an acceptable workaround but you should not have had the I/O errors you describe, nor should the login times (subsequent to the initial login, that is) be unacceptably long. It calls into question the integrity of all the information that was transferrred.
I'll try to attract the attention of a CCC expert who will likely provide more competent assistance. You can also try the Bombich support site: http://help.bombich.com

  • Installed a 2nd HD, how do I clone the orig. drive onto the new one...

    Hi All,
just bought and installed a 700Gig second internal hard drive. i'd like to clone my orig. HD onto this new one, what do i use to do that?,

    Hi-
If you haven't, first, use Disk Utility to format the new drive.
Once formatted, download SuperDuper! and clone the old drive to the new drive.
Then, change the Startup Drive selection in System Preferences, and restart. All done.
Before you erase the old drive, though, make sure everything on the new clone works as it should.
One thing that is good to do before a clone, is to boot to the OS install disk, and use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive (old drive) using the "Repair Disk" command. This is to correct any directory errors. Any errors on a drive that is cloned, will also be cloned, so this is good to do before a clone is performed.

  • Clone a RAC database to a new RAC server

    Hi,
How can clone a RAC database to a new RAC environment ?
I installed Cluster and RDBMS 10g R1 in a new RAC server and I need to copy my database "dbrest" to the new server, my new database must have the same name ("dbrest"). My actual dbrest database is in ASM and I need to use ASM for the new database too.
I don't have any database in the new RAC environment.
At the end I need to have this configuration:
    Source configuration:
    SERVER:
    Node 1: srvprod1
    Node 2: srvprod2
    CLUSTER DB: dbrest using ASM
    Node 1: dbrest1
    Node 2: dbrest2
    Clone configuration:
    SERVER:
    Node 1: dupenv1
    Node 2: dupenv2
    CLUSTER DB: dbrest using ASM
    Node 1: dbrest1
    Node 2: dbrest2
    How can I do this?
How can I copy my dbrest database to

use rman Duplicate Database on srvprod* to dupenv*
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmdupdb.htm#BRADV165
When duplicate database can run on both dupenv1 and dupenv2.
use "srvctl" to add database, instance and services (if you have)
    Usage: srvctl add database -d <name> -o <oracle_home> [-m <domain_name>] [-p <spfile>] [-A <name|ip>/netmask] [-r {PRIMARY | PHYSICAL_STANDBY | LOGICAL_STANDBY}] [-s <start_options>] [-n <db_name>] [-y {AUTOMATIC | MANUAL}]
    Usage: srvctl add instance -d <name> -i <inst_name> -n <node_name>
    Usage: srvctl add service -d <name> -s <service_name> -r "<preferred_list>" [-a "<available_list>"] [-P <TAF_policy>]
    Usage: srvctl add service -d <name> -s <service_name> -u {-r "<new_pref_inst>" | -a "<new_avail_inst>"}

The users receive no error messages, only the log grows bigger.
I migrated from OES2SP3 to OES11SP2 : message (2) was already present before the migration, and message (1) is new after migration.
I have reset cifs and NSS settings to standards, but no changes.
    Thanks for any idea.

You don't want to be creating .DS_Store files on network drives in the first place

The first error seems more like a warning to me, saying the old path is not in the file cache.

  • How do I clone my boot volume to a new internal hard drive?

    Hi,
I record HD shows from my digital antenna using EyeTV 500, not to mention producing DVDs from my 8mm and miniDV home movies. I seem to be eating up disk space at an alarming rate.
Does anyone have a general solution to storing large amounts of video?
    My current setup is:
    Original Internal HDD--250GB Maxtor "6Y250M0"
    Second Internal HDD--500GB Maxtor "6H500F0"
External Firewire HDD--1 TB LaCie Big Disk Extreme "LUN 0"
I've just bought a new Hitachi 1TB DeskStar SATA Drive (for the amazing price of $359 after a $30 rebate at OWC: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Hitachi/OBD0A34915/). I plan to remove the original 250 GB drive and install the new Hitachi 1TB drive in that bay.
My preference would be to make the Maxtor 500GB drive my new OS and Applications drive and the new 1TB internal drive my primary media drive. I should have room to clone the original 250GB drive to the second internal Maxtor 500GB drive, then swap out the 250GB drive for the new drive.
The System folder is only 1.64 GB, the Library Folder is 11.9 GB, and the Applications Folder is 7.09 GB. The Current boot drive (250GB) has a capacity of 233 GB, with 139.09 GB used and 94.65 GB available.
The specific questions I have are:
    1) If I clone the current boot drive (250GB) to the 500GB Maxtor Drive, do I have to clone it to a partition the same size as the original (250GB), or, when I Restore using disk utility, will it just become a 500 GB volume?
    2) Is it better to put the System, Apps, and Library in their own Partition, as opposed to having them share the same volume with a lot of other files?
    2) ...if so, how do I calculate how big a partition I'll need for the system and apps on the Maxtor 500 GB drive?
    3) What's the best way to do all this? What pitfalls do I need to watch out for?
    4) I plan on upgrading to OS 10.5 (Leopard) when it comes out next month. (Does this change anything?)
    Thanks!
    Ashwin

The very best way to clone one drive to another on a Mac, is to use a simple utility called Carbon Copy Cloner. It is available online, free as a download. Just google for Carbon Copy Cloner, download it (2.2 mb), and use it. It is really great and you will be happy with it.

  • Use CCC to clone a old environment to a new mini, but got a prohibited sign during booting

    Hello everyone
I am trying to move the old environment from my old mini to a new one. I use CCC lastest version and make a bootable clone in a external hd. However  when I booted from the external hd on the new mini. I can see the copy i made, but after  i clicked it , the screen show a prohibited sign on a grey background.
Here is the detail info of my two mini
    The old one
    OS X 10.7.5 Lion
    Processor 2.3 GHZ  intel
I think it is around two years old
    The new one
    OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion
    Processor is from intel too
The external hd I use is Lacie Porsche Design P9220<= I already tried to use it to boot on the old mini, it worked. so I guess that this won't because  this hd can't boot in Mac machine.
Can I move the old environment to the newer machine  by using CCC? Because the old one is for building software we hope that we don't need to config again.

I saw some discussion like "downgrade ML to Lion..."
    Why  could  it be done?
I have no idea why anyone would want to. Lion conveys no advantages over Mountain Lion, and Mavericks offers even more improvements. I can think of no reason to keep Lion or Mountain Lion, when Mavericks performs so much better on any hardware that can run Mountain Lion.
So..If I make several partitions on my old mini hd and install different version of X OS ex Lion, ML, Mavericks then It won't be a problem to boot from those partitions right?
Correct. If your old Mini is only two years old it can run every OS released since it was built. Install different OS X versions on each parition and use Startup Manager to select which one to boot.
There is no reason not to upgrade both of your Minis - attempting to downgrade the newer one makes no sense and isn't going to work anyway, and makes even less sense if you're developing software. No one is going to want software that isn't compatible with the latest operating system.

  • Clone/tranport files, info, programs to new computer?

I have just had 2 G4 ibooks fail due to the dreaded logic board failure. I just bought a PowerBook G4 15-inch FW800 -serial V73*KGNRZ. <Edited by Host> What i want to do is swap the hard drive from the ibook to the Powerbook G4 so that all my settings and programs would be intact without days of hassle to restore the work enviroment I am familiar with. Is this possible?
If not what is the easiest way to transfer all the programs and setting to the new computer?
I do not have the system restore discs for either of the computers.
I also have a firewire drive with the ibook drive in it and a usb drive with a sparseimage back-up. Can I do anything with these to transport/clone/or restore my work environment including programs?
For example I was thinking of copying the sparse image to the new computer drive and selecting the image to boot from -can this be done? Or swap drives -is that safe?
I just want my old set-up restored on the Powerbook that I was used to on the ibook. -Help!
The Powerbook is running OS 10.3 and the old ibook drive was running OS10.3.9.
    -RS

It would be possible to move the hard drive from the dead iBook into the Powerbook and see whether it boots and operates properly, but the chances are good that it won't. Even if it boots, the iBook's OS installation was tailored to the iBook's hardware, and includes the drivers only for that machine's hardware components. The right drivers for the Powerbook's different hardware components won't be included, so some aspects of the Powerbook's operation may be nonfunctional, unreliable, or partly crippled.
OS X Panther (10.3.x) does not include Migration Assistant, so there is no simple, convenient way to transfer all your data, applications and settings from one computer to another running that OS without disturbing the already-installed operating system. Because you have no OS installer discs, you won't be able to reinstall a proper OS on the Powerbook if you find that the iBook's OS installation won't boot it or is too flaky or crippled to use on it. If that proves true, you'll need to buy a suitable OS installer. Even if you don't need one right away, sooner or later you will need it. Your 1.25GHz 15" PBG4 requires a minimum of OS X 10.3 to be assured of booting (early in the production run, units were shipped with 10.2.7, but if yours is a later one, it won't boot to that OS version). It can run any version up to 10.5.8. Buy only a retail installer disc, NOT a disc that was shipped with and designed to support only a particular Mac model, even if it's a Powerbook G4 model.

  • Best way to clone document setup, baseline grid, to new document?

Indesign CS 5.5 I want to clone the exact settings from an existing document to a new document. I know I could save the existing document as a template, but it is a full sized book and none of the text is relevant. Is there an easy way to delete all the text, headers and footers included?
    Or alternatively,
I can import all the styles, but I don't see any way to import or save and name the document setup, other than doing it manually.

Thanks, Peter. Glad for my sake that you are working on weekends.

  • Copying clone drive, then writing back to new drive

I have a problem. My friend's computer crashed. She has a cloned drive. I would like to know the easiest way (if any) for me to take her cloned drive (A), copy the contents to a temporary drive (B), then copy the copied clone (B) to another drive (C) and send to her.
Reason being the clone as an Apple drive, and they want the original drive to perform service. So she has to put it back, but before, she wants to take the clone files off and put them on another drive. Will the cloned drive function properly if I just take the files and move them?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

You MUST clone, not copy. Google for Carbon Copy Cloner. It's free (SuperDuper is feature better, but costs). Clones will work perfectly. Test it before she runs off with it, though. Startup off the new clone. It will take a lot of time. 100 GB about 2-3 hours.
