Clone of drive doesn't have the right name on option-restart

I have created a clone (with Carbon Copy Cloner) of my principal drive in anticipation of both OSX 10.9 and because of Adobe's recent changes for their software (I need to keep the current versions of Adobe CSS) in case I decide to discontinue the monthly update charge we are now stuck with).
The problem is when I do a option-restart to switch the system I want to boot from, the choices shown for drives has a different name for the cloned drive from what shows in the finder. The finder name is "Mtn Lion Bay 2" (a partion on disc bay 2 - Snow Leopard is on the other partition) but when doing the option-boot, the name shows as "EFI boot". Disk utility also shows the name as "Mtn Lion Bay 2".
I have cloned drives before, but don't remember this happening.

I'll assume that when you select the mystery icon in Startup Manager, you actually do boot into the volume you expect.
You may be able to fix the problem by re-blessing the volume, as follows.
Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
sudo bless --folder "/Volumes/Mountain Lion Bay 2/System/Library/CoreServices" --bootefi
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.
You can then quit Terminal. Test.

My problem began when my laptop had to be restored to it's original settings (factory) so it whipped out everything. I went to install iTunes (newest version) which I did not have prirror to the restoration. I went to my Library to listen to music and add music and it was my old library from when I first got my iTunes account. My iPod has the right library that I want and I need to know how I can fix this ASAP. My iPod has the same account on it as what my account on my laptop is logged on as. Need to know how to fix this! I'm getting a "The procedure entrypoint ssSr192x__ssSr192drvssSrReset could no be located in the dynamic link library ssSR192x.dll" because the ActiveX instrument driver DLL doesn't have the function names in the export table.

Is there a way for my CVI project to reference the functions in the ActiveX without including the instrument .fp in the project?

Non-ActiveX DLLs have the export tables so everything works for them.

Since I get a .c and .h file from the .TLB, I've tried recompiling the DLL (.dll and .lib produced) and the functions seem to work, but I get "Class not registered" errors unless I play games with the registry so I'm obviously violating numerous Microsoft rules!
Is there a way for my CVI project to reference the functions in the ActiveX without including the instrument .fp in the project? Thanks much.

Hello Jeff,
Where were your getting the .lib file for the ActiveX DLL? Did you use the "hp1234"
ActiveX driver generated by the "Create ActiveX Automation Controller" CVI Tool to build a static library? If you open an include file and choose Options >> Generate DLL..., it will generate source code or a static import library to load the specified DLL and load functions specified in the include file (this only works if the functions are exported from a DLL). However, in the case of our ActiveX Automation Controllers, ActiveX calls are used to access a DLL. This means that you do not need an import library. You should be able to open the "hp1234" source file and click Options >> Create Object File. Simply #include "hp1234.h" and add "hp1234.obj" to your Common DLL project;
the .fp file is not necessary. If this does not answer your questions or if you experience further difficulty, please post further details on what you are doing and the errors that are being encountered ("play games with the registry" and "recompiling 'the' DLL" are a bit vague in this case).

Macbook doesn't have the right resolution for external monitor.

I have a Macbook Pro runing OS X 10.7.5 and have a HP w1907 LCD monitor. When I have the Macbook open, I can get the proper resoulution of 1440x900 on the LCD while the monitors are Mirrored. But when the macbook is closed, the options for the LCd monitor are replaced by VGA display. The VGA Display options do not have the 1440x900 resolution option.
What do I have to do to get my monitor's native resolution back while keeping the macbook closed.

Aha - got luck: In Preferences/DIsplays click in the window and press 'Option' - the 'Gather Windows' button changes to 'Detect Displays' and when clicked, discoverd the correct resolution.
That does it.

External Hard Drive doesn't have the marked space

I just got a new external hard drive from Western Digital which is supposed to have 250 G of space in it. I've had external drives before and they always had a few mbs missing when I open the file which I always assumed was formatting or some other normal thing taking up space on the drive. However, this is excessive. The drive only has 235 G (when I look at it in the finder and in Disk Utility). I formatted (extended journaled to use it with time machine) and it's the same thing.
Would formatting with 7-Pass Erase or something like that make a difference? Why is there so much space missing from my hard drive?

there is nothing you can do here. this is the result of the well-known [bait and switch marketing tactics by HD manufacturers|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30065-en]. the advertised capacity is in decimal BGs (250) and the actual capacity is in binary GB (235). all drive manufacturers do it and you should be aware of this when buying hard drives.

I can't update to the latest itunes, it doesn't have the right permissions, even though I am signed in as administrator.

I am trying to update to the latest version of itunes on Windows 8.1, but midway through installation it tells me that it does not have permission to access a folder in the itunes resources, something like Ja.laprog\printing templates. I am signed in as administrator and I am unsure how to solve this. Thank you.

Hey guys. I'm running into an issue when trying to update webOS to the latest 1.0.4 version. I have access to WiFi and EVDO, I'm currently on version 1.0.3 and my battery life is at 100%. I'm adding the screenshots of the pre-download update screen and post download/validation error message I get.
I've noticed that the size of 1.0.4 on most of the sites shows as 12MB, but my pre says it's 3MB:

I just bought a new MacBook Air. I've been trying for hours to find or install the spellcheck dictionary for my language, Norwegian bokmål, and I've had no luck. I can choose several other language dictionaries, but not this one. My display is Norwegian, I can set Norwegian as my priority for languages, but I don't have a dictionary.

After Effects CC doesn't have the "Save as CS6" option?

I am trying to use CS6 to open an .aep file and it is erroring out. We tried saving the file from the original AE CC system as a CS6 version but that wasn't an option in the menu, just Save as CC 12.0. Any ideas here? I need some backwards compatibility between the two versions. All I find online is that there is supposed to be a "Save as CS6" option in AE CC.

Rick, while I truly appreciate the help, you are coming across a bit condescending. Please realize that.
I am not new to these programs therefore I do know when I am using what version to do what. I have created a file in CC2014. In CC2014 saved it as CC12. (the only option) Then I reopened the CC12 version in CC2014, to attempt to then save it as CS6. The option to save as CS6 is not there. Only CC12. If I'm not opening it properly, then I'm not sure of the process. If it's different than a standard open file command, then shame on Adobe for making it convoluted. At this point, the other person is going to install CS6 so we are compatible across. If you have an insight as to why Save as CS6 never is an option in CC, I would be eager to know. However, please realize that I do have a hankering of how to use software.

I'm having similar problems with my Epson Stylus DX5000. There was no in-built driver available (the generic old and new Stylus drivers didn't work), so downloaded the latest driver from Epson site. It shows as being available to print to, but just sends data to the print queue then job disappears.
I hope you're right C F McBlob, I could do with printing today but if there are new drivers available from November 5, then so be it.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
I recommend that you also make a backup before proceeding. Just quit the installer.

What are you getting on the TV? Are you getting a completely blank screen, or are you getting a message similar to 'no input detected'? Or are you seeing the spiral galaxy desktop? If you go into System Preferences -> Displays then do you have an 'Arrangements' tab?

Your best bet is to contact Apple. Those conditions should not occur with a new unit.
I do suggest that you read Chapters 1, 2, and 3.
If you wish to troubleshoot on your own...
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
