Clone oracle home?

what is the difference between cloning oracle database and cloning oracle home.i know a little bit about cloning database in whihc we are copying CRD files,
pfile, spfile, password file to the target and open the database.can any body provide information about cloning oracle home.
Thankx....

One is a database copy (your datafiles), where other is a copy of software installation (binaries). What do you want to do ?

  • How can we clone the Oracle database in new Oracle Home

    Hi,
I would like to clone oracle database into new oracle home. How can we set it using OEM.
I am using 10g grid control. Target db is on solaris
    Thanks
    Naveen

after logging into target database, under maintenance tab, data movement header; ther is "clone database" option. When you click on it; you'll see :
Clone Database uses RMAN to duplicate a database from:
-- An open database in ARCHIVELOG mode, or
-- An open database in NOARCHIVELOG mode (restart required), or
-- A saved working directory from previous cloning
Clone Database performs the following operations:
-- Backup each database file and store it in a working directory
-- Transfer each backup file from source to destination host
-- Restore each backup file to existing destination Oracle Home
-- Recover the cloned database with saved archived log files
-- Open the cloned database with resetlogs
It seems to be for cloning to a different host, but i guess you can chose the same host for source and destination. (I've never used cloning on em by the way :))
But firstly, you should create a new oracle home, you can simply copy your oracle home with a new name (cp -R /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0 /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.new) or make a new installation.
I suggest you to do this cloning with CLI. You should take a full backup with RMAN, copy the oracle home, create a new initNEWSID.ora file and nomount the database, restore (or simply copy) controlfiles, restore database (with set newname commands), recover database, open resetlogs.

  • How to clone 11gr2 grid and oracle homes

    Hi,
By mistake I have installed the software and the database under the same disk /u01. I should had installed the software under /u02 and the database + grid infrastructure for standalone server + Oracle restart under /u01.
My database is 11gR2 on Linux Redhat server.
I have installed Grid Infrastructure for standalone server and the database in /u01.
How can I clean clone all these components from /u01 to /u02? I mean the components are:
    - Grid Infrastructure for standalone server under grid user.
    - Oracle Restart under grid user.
    - Oracle software and Oracle database.
    Thank you

What about desinstalling everything : grid infrastructure, Oracle restart , Oracle homes, databases.
I have seen some users of this forum complaining of the errors from the de installer.
can I simply use the Deinstallation Tool downloaded from the OTN and then in ORDER:
1- Remove the Oracle database home under Oracle User:
    ./deinstall -home /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
2- Remove the grid install under the grid user:
    ./deinstall -home /u01/app/11.2.0/grid
    Any idea please?

  • Using patch plans for 12.1.0.2 target oracle home fails with 'PREREQ_MESG: Unable to get the version of OPatch'

We are attempting to use patch plan to apply PSU and one-offs to a new 12.1.0.2 database oracle home.  Our EM version is 12.1.0.4.
We are experiencing the same issue described in ''Bug 20271609 : Unable to get the version of OPatch".   This bug is closed as 'duplicate bug to filer' but we do not appear to have visibility into what patch/bug fixes the issue.
Description from the above mentioned bug is our same issue.  We do not have this issue when we use patch plans against an 11.2.x oracle_home target.  It is unique to 12.1.0.2 oracle_home target.
    Description from the bug:
The Plan failed in step "Run Prerequisite Checks" with the following errors:
    PREREQ_NAME: Minimum Version of OPatch
PREREQ_DESC: Check if the required version of OPatch is present on the target
    PREREQ_TYPE: PATCH_TOOL_CHECK
    PREREQ_STATUS: FAILED
PREREQ_MESG: Unable to get the version of OPatch at
    /u01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_2/Opatch
We have opened an SR to see if we can get more info on what was already identified as a bug.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  If so, can you share any patches or workarounds (other than manually applying patches) that you found useful?
    Thanks.

You'll probably get the same info from Support, but the workaround is to use the Patch Database (however that doesn't work if there's no DB target associated to that home).   If you were trying to do patchign out of place (clone home, patch, then move db's), EM can do this for you.   If you're just installing a new DB Home and trying to patch, then i don' think there's another workaround.  The base bug is marked fixed though, so a backport for the 12.1.0.6 plugin should be available very soon.  I would ask the support analyst to request the backport for your plugin/patch level...

    Hi All,
I am facing the same issue again after installed the oracle linux 4.5.
My Source database is 9i it is running in oracle linux 4.4, So i couldn't register my oracle home in the ORACLE Linux 4.5.I have to downgrade my Oracle linux from 4.5 to 4.4.
I sourced the below steps from google,
Hello everybody! I have a problem with my server and I want to check that it isn't a software problem. So, firstly I want to downgrade from 4.5b6 to 4.4. Just to point out, I have a Plus license. So, to do the downgrade, Do I just have to change the following files? : bzimage
bzroot Nothing else? Thank you so much.
    It is that easy.
You can rename the existing two files so you can put them back into place as bzroot and bzimage if the experiment does not result in an improvement.  I do that on my system.  bzroot would become bzroot.456 and bzimage woud be re-named as bzimage.456
As an alternative, you could add the 4.4.2 files as bzroot.442 and bzimage.442 and then add three lines to your syslinux.cfg file.  They would result in additional menu choices when you next boot to allow you to choose to boot on either the older or the current version.
A copy of my syslinux.cfg file is below.  You can see I can elect to boot on on almost any of the recent releases, as I've kept re-named copies of each release in turn on my flash drive.
(All the lines I added are in "blue", the three lines for 4.4.2 you would need to add are in "bold blue.".  It would require you to put the 4.4.2 files in place renamed as bzroot.442 and bzimage.442)
The only thing you need to be aware of if you re-name the files as I've done is the names must be legal names under DOS on a FAT file-system.  Therefore, the names must be at most 8 characters long with a three character "extension"
bzimage.456 is legal, bzimage.45b6 is not. (because it has a 4 character extension)

  • Can't apply Ultra Search to an upgraded Oracle Home. Do I have any options?

    Hi
    I've made a mistake!!
I created an Oracle Home, upgraded it to 10.2.0.4 and then created a new DB. This now contains SOA Suite and Content Management users which is working great.
I now need to add Ultra Search to this DB, but the install for this won't work as the installer expects a 10.2.0.1 home. Anyway, it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway I would have thought as it would apply 10.2.0.1 software to a more recent version.
So, not being a DBA, do I have any options?
For example, I thought about creating a new home, adding all the extra software and then upgrading the home to 10.2.0.4. Then, could I clone the DB to this new home?
Any advice would be most appreciated.....
    Many thanks
    Chris

I can confirm that Ultra search cannot be installed by dbca in 10.2.0.4 database. It complains about invalid objects during installation in the created schema. Investigation showed up its some wrapped plsql package implementations that cannot be compiled.
When installing first 10.2.0.1 db, then patching to 10.2.0.3, then installing companion 10.2.0.1 and patching companion again to 10.2.0.3, Ultra search installation works in dbca.
Ultra search is needed for example by metadata creation assistant 10.1.4 (for Oracle internet directory 10.1.4). So Oracle internet directory cannot be installed on 10.2.0.4. Oracle probably didn't test this possibility

  • Installed 2 10g oracle homes and get ora-12557

    hi,
I have installed 2 oracle 10g homes and now cannot connect to sqlplus as sysdba
the error is 0ra-12557, TNS protocol adapter not loasdable.
the installation is on windows 2003 server
everything was fine until the second oracle home was added.
    help is appreciated
    rgds
    alan

Typically this a PATH variable problem
The golden rule is to install the oldest product first.
Then make sure you path has the right ORACLE_HOME/bin 's
    In the right order.
Remeber if you run say sqlplus from ORACLE-HOME1 it will look in
ORACLE_HOME1/network/admin for its tnsnames files etc
If you run sqlplus fom ORACLE_HOME2 then it will look in
    ORACLE_HOME2/network/badmin
I always clone the network config files so they are the same in all homes.
You have to be a little bit careful about this. FOr instance I have forms 6i wihich uses Net 8 so I can't exacly clode the tnsnames etries.
    But you get the picture.
And generally make sure ORACLE_HOME is not set in your windows environment.
    Ths will cause problems.

  • Oracle Home Confusions?

    Hi all,
    11.2.0.3
    Rhel 6
I have current db and OracleHome1 for 11.2.0.3  (path /u01)
I am cloning it again to another OracleHome2  (path /u02) for the purpose of installing TDE (data encryption) and Database Vault.
When I finished cloning I run ./dbca to create new database. Then it prompted me to create OEM. But it said I need to install netca or default listener on the current home.
But my problem is that I have already default listener 1521 at the first oracle home. How can I tell dbca to point OEM of this 2nd OracleHome2 to the listener on /u01?
    Thanks a lot,
    pK

    Thanks Aman,Jhonny
I am sure you did not get my point
It is like this. we have PROD 11.2.0.3. We want to get PCIDSS certified, and the recommendation is to implement in our PROD dbvault and TDE. So before you applying anything to PROD you have to test it first in a TEST envi. Just forget the "clone" thing as this is what confused you
The requirement is that to setup 2 identical database DB1 and DB2.  The first one will represent our existing prod, while the second one will be comnfigured with DBvault and TDE. They can be on separate server if you have enough resources. But for my own test , i just created it on one VMbox with separate OracleHomes. The objective is stress test both envi and compare what performance degradation effects has DBvault & TDE will bring to the system. I am clear now of my goal?
So back to my issue above:
Since I used 1 server only for 2 OracleHomes and since I need OEM to configure Dbvualt and TDE, and since OEM runs only on default listener of each home port.
Therefore I can not use one  single default listener but rather two (one for each home). The work around is I can startup 1 pair (db + oem) as one time. Which is good enough for me.
    Thanks...
The point is, you are not going to test the Oracle Homes as they are (would be) identical but the databases. So what's the point of having different homes? For EM, even if you have 10 databases, one listener is enough and you  can open the EM using a different port for each database. But where does EM comes into the testing? Won't you be running your testing scripts over the databases?
    Aman....
PS: Please use proper name of the forum members-it's John not Jhonny .

  • Rename an oracle home

    Oracle Grid Control Agent 10.2.0.5
    Solaris
I want to rename the home to conform to standards. If I rename the home, will it affect its interaction with the OEM server?
i believe I just need to
    1 .rename directory
    2. change oratab to point to new directory.
    anything else?

off the top of my head I would think that the inventory needs to be updated as well.
Maybe you can create a new mount named how you want, clone the home to the new location and once you verify all is working as expected you can tear down the other filesystem.

  • Need of Two Oracle Home in R12

I am a newbie apps dba and was going through the oracle documentation. Where I learnt that in r12 there are two ORACLE_HOME 10.2.0 and 10.3.0. I tried to research regarding the same but couldn't find anything conclusive enough that would clear my fundamentals regarding the need for having 2 ORACLE_HOME. Of what I have understood , 10.2.0 is Developer Home which hosts the Apache, forms server etc and 10.3.0 hosts the JAVA/html server etc. Is my understanding correct regarding the same ? and what is the use and advantage of having two Oracle Homes? Do explain me in laymen terms as I am still a newbie!
