Clone RAC RDBMS

Hi Everyone,
We have our first test RAC for Oracle E Business Applications running, we will need to setup the 2nd test environment of EBS on RAC on the same set of servers of first RAC environment.
The second RAC environment is not the clone of the first RAC environment, we will perform the same clone steps from our non-RAC EBS prod environment, just like the way we did the first RAC environment.
We will need to setup the 2nd test environment under the same cluster and ASM structure of 1st RAC environment.
My puzzle is: How to clone 2nd pair of RAC RDBMS under the same cluster of 1st RAC environment ?
As long as we could clone the 2nd pair of RAC RDBMS, then we could perform the same steps in notes 466649.1, to setup 2nd EBS RAC environment under the same cluster.
Please outline the basic steps to achieve this goal.
Thanks

  • Clone RAC+ASM database

    Hi,

  • Ksbsrv error on RAC rdbms

Has any one out there encountered the ksbsrv error :-
'no startup aknowledgement from forked process after 3 mins'
on a windows RAC configuration using 9.2.0.5?
We have had this error on one of our 4 nodes. This rendered the entire database unusable through the application, but the 3 unaffected nodes were accessble through sqplus(beq access?)
The problem was rectified by restarting the effected node, which had high CPU despite the fact that the rdbms was unuasable..we suspect an orphaned process......
We are looking at possible causes as changes in OS, and DB init parameters as causes, as well as poor coding..anything else we should be looking at?
    Any other information gratefully received..
    Thanks

Have you found a reason for this error.
I'm not using RAC, but occasionally we receive this error
and have to reboot the dataase.
Oracle TAR and research netted, that we should make sure the listener
log never over 200mg. So I've setup a routine to clean out the
listener log while the db is still running 24x7.
oct 3 and again today the database hung with this error and listener.log
was well within the 200mg limits.

  • Apps 11i clone RAC to Non RAC

    Hi hussein,
I have 4 node 11i applications with PCP and Load balancer. Now we have a requirement to clone it to single node.

Apps02 = Form, web, admin, concI referred tech notes:

Now I am confused how to do it. As all services exists on both nodes.
Do i need to run merge appsTier on both nodes? or merge appsTier on one node and merge app_top on other? or no need to run merge appsTier? confused :(

    Hi
CRS_HOME must be owned by a different user:group (preferably root) than $ORACLE_HOME (owned by oracle), for several reasons like patching.
Please note also that you will need an ASM dedicated home and also a AGENT_HOME that can be owned by oracle.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle 10.2.0.2 to Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4

    Hi Need some advice,
I currently have a oracle hot backupset via rman taken from a 10.2.0.2 single instance. I am in the process of building a rac and I am at a state of patching it.
shall I shutdown all the services and take a copy of all the homes, then follow the patch instructions, if anything goes wrong go back to my previous homes.
Say I do upgrade the environment to 10.2.0.4, what steps do I do next to get the 10.2.0.2 db into this environment, any sample rman scripts?.
Also do I do the recovery and apply the archive logs - then I upgrade the db before I try to open it, anybody have the correct steps I need to take.
    Help is much appreciated, Thanks

I am assuming you are converting a single-instance DB into RAC and also at the same you want it to be at 10.2.0.4.
If that's the case, here is what I would prefer to do.
    1. Install RAC RDBMS binaries 10.2.0.1 (base) (new home)
    2. Patch it to 10.2.0.4
    3. Take a backup of current single instance db.
    4. Upgrade the Single-Instance database(10.2.0.2) to 10.2.0.4 using the RAC RDBMS Home (installed at step 1 above).
    5. Convert from Single Instance to RAC.
Also do I do the recovery and apply the archive logs - then I upgrade the db before I try to open it, anybody have the correct steps I need to take.not required...

  • VM, RAC on Win XP

I created a new thread in Database General forum (VM, LINUX RAC on Win XP before I found this forum. Admin, please excuse the double post; but, I figure I will get more appropriate response here.
As mentioned in that thread, I'm a newbie and I'm trying to learn and install a 2 node VM RAC system on my Win XP.
I am looking for any guidelines, any step by step on how to achieve that.
    What I have done:
I am downloading files from http://edelivery.oracle.com
    1) Downloaded Enterprise Linux Release 5 Update 5 Media Pack for x86 (32 bit)
    2) Downloaded Oracle VM Server 2.2.1
    Now I am wondering
    1) what's the difference between Oracle VM Manager 2.2.0+ and Oracle VM Server 2.2.1+ ??
    2) What's Paravirtualized Drivers for Windows Guests (XP/2003/2008/Vista) 1.0.11 - 32bit/64bit+
    3) What's VM Templates+?
    4) What's the difference between Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 Update 2 template - PV Large x86 (32 bit)+ and Oracle Database 11.1.0.6 for x86 (32 bit) with Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2+ and Grid Control managed Oracle Database 11.1.0.7 for x86 (32 bit) with Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3+
My guess is VM Template (example: Oracle Database 11.1.0.6 for x86 (32 bit) with Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2*) is VM that comes with DB11.1.0.6 on Linux 5.2?? if that's the case, then shouldn't I be able to achieve what I need to do with just installing twice Oracle Database 11.1.0.6 for x86 (32 bit) with Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2*??
Sorry for the long winded question. Truly confused.
Again, any help or pointers or comments or suggestions are great_.

Oracle VM Server runs on a bare-metal system: it is the operating system. It most emphatically does not run on top of Linux or Windows or anything else.
If you are just trying to learn about RAC, RDBMS, and such, go get Oracle (Sun) VirtualBox. VirtualBox runs on top of Windows, so you can create RAC virtual guests using that. This would not be an option if you wanted a production configuration, supported by Oracle.
There are two tricky points: the VM guests should use the host-only networking feature of vbox for the internode communications. This is mode is easy to configure and may even be the default.
The other tricky point is to define a separate virtual disk as shared storage. You'll want to do this so there will be common storage between the virtual guests. Again, this is possible but just non-default.
Google can be your friend on this; there are several step-by-step HOWTO's to get this running last time I looked.

  • RAC for Data Warehouse

    Hello,
We have a research project for restructructuring our data warehouse system.
I would like to get some opinions about whether RAC architecture can be
a good solution for Data Warehouse application.
We have using parallel queries massively. Does running these kind of queries
on different servers on RAC with multiple server result in performance degradation rather than
running on single monolithic server with multiple CPUs
I will appreciate any comments using RAC architecture for Data Warehouse
    systems?
    Regards,

    Maurice Muller wrote:
Just keep in mind that during the last 4 years (I guess your current system is about 4 years old) the CPUs became much faster.
A cpu can't work without data which means that the I throughput has to be fast enough to feed all your cores with data.
The main bottleneck of all DWHs I have seen during the last 8 years was allways the IO never the CPUs. And not just data warehousing Maurice, but a basic principle for any data processing platform - the slowest layer is always the I/O layer.. and can be the most expensive one to solve too.
Which is why newer technology like Infiniband is exciting as it can also serve as the I/O layer. Instead of using the traditional HBA which is typically configured with 2Gb fibre channels to the storage layer, using HCA cards you can wire this directly into an Infiniband storage array... and this can run at up to speeds of 40Gb. Dual connections means a total theoretical pipe size of 80Gb. I do not know of any other standard technology (like GigE) that can provide any similar bandwidth speed.
Back to RAC though - with RAC, when you add a new server that comes with a new set of I/O pipes.. plus of course more RAM and more CPU cores. SMP server architecture does not scale like this at all. You only have x number of slots for PCI cards, CPUs and RAM. A very specific ceiling that cannot be moved. With MPP this ceiling is a a lot higher and more flexible.
You can also replace a dual core dual CPU nodes with a 6 core AMD Istanbul CPUs next year.. and possibly 12 core CPUs year after that. So even a smallish 4 node cluster with 16 cores in total can be grown significantly and remain a 4 node cluster. Together with advances in HPC (High Performance Computing) like Infiniband.
I'm not seeing much use of non-RAC RDBMS architecture in the future. Databases are getting ever bigger because we have the technology to crunch more data, and crunch it a lot more intelligently than ever before. My first production database was 4MB in size, and ran on a Novell File Server with two 20MB disks. I'm currently testing a 24TB array for use for a single database.
Technology is inevitable, as is the growth in data volumes. And I cannot see a non-RAC architecture rising to that challenge. Especially not in something like data warehousing.

  • Oracle RAC/3rd party clusterware support question

Does anyone know if Oracle supports a Linux RAC system also running HP Ibrix clusterware? I was not able to find a list of certified 3rd party clusterware vendors that Oracle will support to run with RAC. If anyone has this information, please let me know. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the response, the versions would be RHEL5, 11g rac/rdbms, using HP Ibrix as 3rd party clusterware.
I'll open an SR if I can't find the information I need on this forum, but I prefer to reserve opening SR's for technical issues and after I've done dilligence to find the information.
If anyone has come accross this information, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Atypical ASM/RAC 11.2 configuration.

    Hi every one,
We are evaluating several scenarios to implement Oracle RAC, and we want to know if the following configuration is certified by Oracle.
    1 asm disk group (SAN)
1 linux node that has the following users and instances:
linux user: grid1 running asm instance-1
linux user: ora1 running db instance-1
linux user: grid2 running asm instance-2
linux user: ora2 running db instance-2
this node configuration is RAC with another linux node.
All asm instances share the same asm disk group
This configuration is because we have 2 core applications, each one with its own database, we only have 2 RAC Nodes and for security reason we want to separate database application and database administration.
Do you have any note o white paper that support this configuration?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I would suggest to look at the installation guide for your platform. For 11.2 there could be either
    1. only one oracle user for all installation
    2. a role separation between a (storage,ASM,GI) and RAC RDBMS.
