Clone Stamp Acting Weird

Clone Stamp behaving oddly. I Alt + Click to sample image and then click to paint. When I do this, the cursor fills with the sampled image, which changes as I move the cursor to reflect the moving sample point, but the tool won't actually paint any pixels. I click and drag, but the pixels don't change. Usually when I use this tool, the cursor doesn't show a preview of the sampled image, so I don't know if that's another odd behavior or simply an option that I wasn't aware of which got activated inadvertently.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone explain it and/or offer a solution? I've searched the forum, but the suggested solution (restetting the tool) hasn't worked and this issue has turned a quick and easy task into a headache which has consumed my entire morning. My sincere thanks in advance for any assistance.

Your probably seeing the clone source overlay.
Go to Window>Clone Source and either uncheck Show Overlay
or just check clipped if you want the overlay to clip to the brush size.

Clone stamp acting different?

I am just noticing my CS5 clone stamp seems to hold the area i sourced from as i move the brush around. Is this some new behavior or can i disable it? it is very annoying to see more than just my circular brush shape.

I guess i can give it another chance.my first impression was less than excited, and a little disconcerting as it held onto the selecting as i moved about. I am sure their is some logical reason for the design change.I always just lined the crosshair up when i needed precision.

Clone Stamp Tool is messing up in PSE 10.0

Whenever I use the clone stamp tool, it acts weird and keeps messing up my photos. Instead of correcting the photo, it puts a large streak or spot in a different area of my photo. Is there a bug in the software?

I think, Can you verify that you are working on the correct layers?
If you have more than one layer in the layers panel of your image, Make sure, you select " Sample All Layers" option from the options bar on the top.
Also, make sure you have selected the correct layer(mostly the top layer works) while cloning the areas.
So, make sure you follow this:
while doing "Alt+Left Click" to sample area, make sure you have "Sample All Layers" selected
While painting the sampled area to another position, make sure you are on the top layer or the layer you want to clone to.

Clone stamp not working in CS6

Each time i try to use my actions is says"could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (option-click to define a source point)" or "unable to do ____". Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks!

Thank you for responding so quickly. I am aware that the actions do not store brush tips. This is occuring after i select my tips and try to use the action. it was working perfectly all day and then when I tried editing a new photo and the message errors started popping up with multiple actions. I am very new to PS and I'm used to working in lightroom, but I know that to improve myself as a photographer I need to start learning more about ps. I'll try to post a screenshot now...my computer started acting funny when ps and lr were running earlier.

Problem with my Clone Stamp

Hi, All of a sudden my clone stamp is acting strange.
I now have TWO " problems.
1st problem is that as i enlarge the clone stamp, enlarge the circle, less of it is visible ?
2nd problem, when i open a .jpg and position my mouse over an area i want to clone and click "ALT" and then move the mouse to the point i want to clone over, the "layer" moves with the mouse so i can never get to clone the area in question
The image in the bottom corner is moving around with my mouse ??? Help

Clone Stamp Freakout in CS4-Mac

Hi,
I am using PhotoShop CS4 on a Mac Pro (2x2.8Ghz Quad Core, 4Gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT) running 10.5
My CS4 is up to date.
I use a Wacom Intuos3 6x11 tablet with stylus; it is also up to date.
I am retouching a large (1.88GB) PSD file with multiple layers.
Here is my problem: as I attempt to use the clone stamp, PS stalls in a really peculiar way. I'll either be in the act of cloning, or holding spacebar to get the hand to move around the image, and PS stops functioning. No commands work; the mouse is unresponsive. I do get two large boxes at the top of my image: one is a static checkerboard transparency, the other is a checkerboard trasparency that flickers at seizure-inducing rates.
This goes on for about 20 minutes, after which I am able to work normally (and save, save, save) for about five minutes.
It also seems to be exacerbated if I zoom in closer than 100%.
I have not had this problem on larger files, so I'm not convinced this is a memory issue. It is going to become a "smash my Mac with my tablet" issue.
I have turned off all other programs, including Spaces.
Any help is appreciated.

Did you update to Photoshop 11.0.1?
If you already did, then it sounds like you're having a display driver problem or a GPU failure.
You may want to get the machine checked, and in the meantime you can turn off GPU drawing in preferences.

Clone Stamp...what happened???

Dear Adobe...why do you always have to mess with a good thing? I went to use the clone stamp for the first time since installing CS4...it's become very, very weird! A strange squggly line around the brush and some strange visible area appearing under the brush itself whenever you move it anywhere. I don't mind changes but it seems like things get changed just for the sake of changeing them.

If you read the Help page you would realise you can turn that behaviour off.
In fact it is vastly improved!

It was time well spent and in the long run saved time that would have been wasted struggling with the new features.

Clone Stamp and Healing brush problem, please help!

Hi there, I'm new to the forum but I have been using Adobe creative suite for quite some time now. As the thread title describes, I'm having an issue with my photoshop clone stamp and healing brush tool that I can't seem to fix on my own. I searched the internet all day, scrolling over many other posts but I can't seem to find anyone else who is having similar issues like I am having here.
This is kinda hard to explain but the issue I am having, is that when I go to use either my clone stamp or healing brush tool, the layer I am working on whether it is a flattened background or normal editable layer, get shifted as soon as I press the option key to make a selection and then when I go to move to the area to use these tools it acts like I've duplicated the entire layer and drags it around the screen, even though no such copy and paste has been made. All of my other tools are working normally and I wasn't having this issue last time I worked on anything in photoshop.
I am running:
a Mac OSX 10.5.8
CS4 extended version 11.0.2
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

clipped to the size of the brush.

Clone stamp tool error

I am attempting to use the brush in Photo shop element 8....I am running windows vista.
I get error message "could not use the clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined (Alt-click to define source point)"
I have never had to Alt-click to use the brush, however with that said when I now attempt to alt-click it still will not work, I have reset the brush tools to default, and I have also done someone ' method of double clicking. I have no other programs running and I am on the appropriate layer. I am besides myself and need access to it ASAP for a project that I am working on.
Any suggestion... I saw that someone else was running another OS and had talked about the computer program is having interference with the alt key and to manually switch the computer so the super key (window key next to it) acts as the ALT key, however I haven't located how to do that yet on my program.

I want to add that I switched to a darker background and now, after I define the source I can see the brush that I am using but is very faint and only matches the background color. even though I have selected black as the color of the brush...I can see my stamp if I switch it to the patterend stamp tool but I can not get it too be shown in black. I have added a new layer on top of it and have the opacity set to 100 percent...Im at a loss?
I have never had such problems before....

How to engage a Clone-stamp-like 'overlay' for the Brush tool?

Hi All
As I'm sure many of you know, the clone stamp has an 'overlay' option as a default that allows your cursor to act as a preview of the preselected source that will be cloned/painted onto a given area should you proceed to make contact with your tablet or click your mouse.
I find this feature quite useful, except I would like to have it when using my Brush tool. For example, on a blank layer with a white background, with the Brush tool selected (say a soft brush), and Green as my foreground colour selected, I would like my brush cursor to display a preview of what would result on the layer should I start painting - in this case, a green circle with a soft fade. Bare in mind, this would merely be a preview, prior to my pen making contact with my tablet.
Is this possible? I'm open to any options, perhaps there's a plugin?

That's a really bizarre way to number pages. Make sure you specify this to the printers, as a note to them. It's just not a normal way to number pages and printers would appreciate a heads up on it.
There is no way to automate it as such. It would have to be manually updated when pages are added or moved around.
You will still need two Master Pages
Create an empty text frame on the Master Page on both spreads, make sure they are linked.
Create a text file with sequential numbering from 1 - whatever the final page number is. (excel can do this quite easily).
Place the text file into the Main Pages at the starting page.
You will then need to apply the Master Page without that text frame to every page that does not need a page number.
You can do this easily by holding down Control (might be CMD on Mac) and then selecting the pages that don't require page numbers - then use the Apply Master Pages and select the master page to apply to those pages.

Clone stamp behaving oddly

i accidentally hit a wrong key when trying to get the clone stamp going and now it brings up a box with changing icons in it (see upper left of attached image). and it doesnt work. how can i get clone stamp back to normal?

what's weird is that the gray box in top left would not go away. i was gonna write you back, but then it just disappeared.
meanwhile, my cursor turned into a spattered pattern of slanted lines. but then that too resolved.
did i just go into some alternate photoshop universe?

If a tool is acting up, one suggestion is to reset the tool.
Ctrl-click on the clone tool icon in the Options bar and select Reset Tool.

My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds,but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) Try this:
Open your picture file
Access the clone stamp tool
Hold down the ALT key on the keyboard and left click on the area from which you wish to clone, then release the ALT key, and click to place the pixels at the destination
TIPS:
It is a good idea to open a blank layer at the top in the layers palette, and do the cloning on this layer. Be sure that "sample all layers" at the top is checked. You can change the layer opacity if necessary
Use the bracket keys next to the letter p on the keyboard to increase & decrease the size of the cursor
Let us know how you make out with the error message now.
