Clone stamp only stamping negative images
new to photoshop .. well to be honest i havent used photoshop since 1995 .
after playing around with the free trial for 30 days i decided to purchase it . im trying to touchup some pictures from my wedding .
long story short
my clone stamp is now cloning negative images .was working fine while doing the 30 day trail till the last day .. and is still doing the thing with the purchased version of photoshop
i click a spot i want to clone ... then move my brush and start cloning for some reason i get a negative image
please help
Hi Joe
In the Window menu click on Clone Sourceto open that panel. You'll see Invert near the bottom of the panel
BTW It was a relief to see that your screen shot was taken with a camera. For a moment I thought you had a serious problem with that moiré pattern

PS CS5 Extended on Windows
When trying to use the clone stamp and/or healing brush as soon as I move the cursor from the toolbar over to the image I get an exact copy of the existing layer that moves around the window with the movement of the clone stamp/healing brush. This just started tonight. What's causing this weird behaviour? What are the settings in Window > Clone Source?
-
My Photoshop CS 5 has some strange actions when I copy a portion of a photo using the clone stamp to transfer to another part of the image. It carries the entire layer (not just the stamps selection) across the screen and I cannot place it where I need to. It appears as if I selected the entire layer on purpose (which I did not)
The below items appeared when I opened Photoshop CS 5:
“Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled G & U enhancements. Check the video card malfunctions website for latest software. GPU enhancements can be enabled in the performance panel of preferences.”
(I believe this started after the automatically updated Windows was applied. It was coincident with the before mentioned problem . . . but I don’t really know if it had anything to do with it. )For the Clone Stamp problem, check the Clone Source panel and Clipped is probably unchecked.
If so, check Clipped and see if that makes a difference.
(Window>Clone Source)
As to the video card problem:
Which version of windows are you using?
What is the make and model of your graphics card?
Do you know which update windows installed? -
PS CC Clone Stamp moving whole image?
I have a problem that I hope someone may be able to help me with. When I use the clone stamp I 'Alt-Click' to select a point to clone from. When I try to actually do the cloning the whole image moves on top of the original image. I knew it would be hard to explain so a make a screen capture video of it to explain Photoshop Problem - YouTube
If anyone knows a cure for this I would greatly appreciate the help. This seemed to start after the last update of CC.
Here is some info about my system. Sorry if I'm not brief.

In Photoshop 2014 how do you use the clone stamp tool and keep the image panel from moving
I don't quite know how to use the clone stamp tool in the Photoshop 2014 version. When I click on the clone stamp it creates a duplicate of the image and it moves around and I can not apply the clone stamp to the area I want to correct. How do you lock it down to keep it from moving?
Hi Smoothery4501,
The Photoshop clone stamp tool allows you to copy one area of an image and copy it onto another area.
Click on the clone stamp tool then press the alt key on the keyboard and click on the image to define a source point.

Clone Stamp & Paintbrush cursor not displaying on image
Hey there,
When attempting to edit a photo (on PS CS3), the cursor for the paintbrush and clone stamp tools does not display on the image - it'll come up when the mouse isn't directly over it (ie around the borders, & workspace etc, but not on the image itself).
All other tools the cursor will display (eg marque and crop etc).
Is anyone able to offer any help on the subject?
Thanks very much.If you are using a Wacom, keep the pen well away from the tablet when using the mouse and vice versa.
Try unplugging the Wacom – if the problem disappears, update the drivers.
Or
Try resetting the tools from the little drop-down menu in the Options Bar.
If all else fails, try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem. -
I am using CS5. When I try to use the Clone Stamp or Healing Brush Tools, pressing the Alt key generates an extraneous image which overlays the
the image which is being worked on prevents these tools from functioning by sliding at around when the ALT tool is pressed. Does any one elso have this odd problem? How can it be fixed?
Thanks,
JackIsaac. Yes this was the problem. As a novice, I would have spent hours and hours figuring this out. Many thanks.

Clone stamp turns picture to negative
Elements 10. I'm trying to use the clone stamp byt when I release the ALT key my picture turns negative but I see my original under it. When I hold down the left side of the mouse and moe it around the negative moves with it. HELP. Tom
Your probably seeing the clone source overlay.
With the clone stamp tool selected go to the clone source options and maybe check clipped or uncheck Show overlay.
Added: able to insert a screenshot

Clone Stamp Tool only white... help troubleshoot?
I'm a fairly beginner Photoshop user in CS5. I'm sampling a background copy and working in that layer only - whatever I choose to clone stamp, I get only white. Well aware that this is very likely user error and I have likely accidentally changed a setting somewhere... but have searched for the reason and am getting no where. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
People are making pretty good guesses, but maybe it would be prudent to take a screenshot of your entire Photoshop working environment, save it as a JPEG, and post it here via the little "camera" icon above the editor box. I'm betting someone could home in on the exact issue if they could see everything you're seeing.
My guess is that it's the Blending Mode that's the issue (e.g., it might be set to Linear Dodge).

Clone stamp tool and image processing
Hello, I am not able for some reason to apply clone stamp tool to multiple pictures at a time using image processing, I just get the first picture saved with the effect and the rest as they were. Could someone help me out with this? I have around 200 pictures and I need to remove damage from all of them quickly. Or is it not possible? Thank you!
After that time ten years Adobe added a new feature that enable you to record tools use. However the feature was not well designed recorded various amount of data depending on machine. Has some restrictions also. The feature is not compatible with everything as I wrote Adobe Disable this feature when its Plug-in Scriptlistener is installed. I never found a good use for the feature. Note: my option is grayed out because I install Scriprlistener.

Lift and Stamp - one image only
I can get Lift and Stamp to work on JPEG images, but it only updates one image. So even if I select 10 and then stamp, only the image with the "thick" white border is updated.
I've read lots of complaints on lift and stamp usability, but i think I'm doing this correctly.PRECISELY. I was in primary only mode. In this mode you do have to do what I describe, the "select first" doesn't work. Basically the approach I outline gets around "primary only" mode, so I'm arguably exploiting a design flaw.
Better, of course, to turn primary-only off. Then you can select images and click stamp to update them all.
If you type S instead of Ctrl-S for sharpening, you switch modes. I can't find any notice, if I owned Aperture I'd have a prominent string and icon appear in the menubar when switched to primary mode. I'd also remove the sortcut key! I don't think primary mode needs a single letter shortcut.
I figured this out on my own, but if I hadn't you'd have answered it for me. Thanks!

A problem using clone stamp tool
Hi guys,
I use After Effects CC last version on a pc under windows 7 ultimate..
This problem must be simple to solve but I just don't see how.
I have an aerial view of the Vesuvio. The volcano makes a 10 to 15° circular motion due to the helicopter moving.
I need to eliminate the actual houses and other trails on the border of the crater to have my volcano as it was 2000 years ago when it erupted and destroyed Pompeii.
I succeeded to do that with the clone stamp tool without a problem and it takes of course into account all the different shades of earth on the cliffs of the volcano.
But when I preview the shot, while the volcano moves, I can see the stamped touches of paint moving as if floating above the volcano. The older surface is not visible as I wanted but the new one does't follow the movement. I'm sure I forgot to do something but what? Should I do the clone stamp in conjunction with motion tracker, if so how? I tried once but got the same problem.
Thanks in advance
ClaudeOK, I see a bunch of painting on the nearest slope of the volcano that does not track with the shot. Your biggest problem is workflow using the clone stamp. You are just not using it properly. If it were me, the first think I would do is to use the After Effects tracker to stabilize this part of the volcano so that it didn't move in the frame.
Now you only have perspective issues to deal with.
Next I would duplicate the stabilized layer, pre-compose the duplicate moving all attributes to the new composition, name the preComp - clone or paint pre-comp, then open the pre-comp in the layer panel and use the clone stamp to repair the parts of the image you want to repair. You can then add other trackers for the parts of the image you want to clone or use a time offset to make your painted layer match the mountain.
I probably would do something completely different. I'd export the middle frame of this move as a Photoshop file, then go in and paint the mountain the way I wanted it to look. I'd mask the background in photoshop so I only see the sides and face of the volcano. Then I'd bring my painted mountain back into AE and animate distortion, scale and rotation so the painted layer matches the original perspective on the shot as close as possible. When that is done I'd go back to my main comp, add a null, tie the null's position to the anchor point of the stabilized footage, then parent the original copy of the footage and the painted copy to the null to put the camera movement back in the scene.
Here's a tutorial on how to apply tracking data to a clone stamp in AE:
Removing an Object with Clone Stamp - After Effects Tutorial
I am pretty convinced that you added the smoke... Use the same procedure to get the smoke to look right. It's also floating in an unnatural manner. You could also replace the far background with a matte painting of the city using the same mask, duplicate, paint in Photoshop, then distort and remove the stabilization. -
Photoshop cs3 clone stamp tool - clipping option?
In CS4 there is an option to 'clip' the clone stamp so that it shows an overlay of your cloned area 'clipped to' the brush size. (If you uncheck the 'clipped' option it overlays the whole image and does not limit the overlay to your brush area)
Is this feature available in cs3? On a friends computer, we have found the 'show overlay' option which shows the whole image overlayed, but there is no obviouse one for the clipped option.
If it does exist, where is it?!
ThanksIf I understand you correctly, you may have a system problem (e.g., with OpenGL) if the clone stamp overlay is not confined to the brush shape.
Normally, this is what you see (cloning from the right to the left with a round brush):
If it's not working this way for you, I suggest downloading and installing the latest display driver from the web site of the maker of your video card, and also experimenting with the OpenGL settings in your Edit - Preferences - Performance menu.
CS3 did not offer the clipped Clone Stamp overlay. That's an OpenGL-specific feature, and only Photoshop CS4 and above have the OpenGL support needed.

I have photoshop CS4, and whenever I try to sample an area to clone, then clone the area to the place I want, the entire image moves around, and I can't clone anything. When I am moving the image, there seems to be another same exact picture underneath, but when I check the layer panel, I only have one background layer. What is going on with my clone stamp, I never had this problem before. Help, I need to pass my assignments in.
Hi,
You are currently in the wrong forum. You should be either in the Photoshop Windows or Photoshop Mac forums.

That having been said. I think you might have "Show Overlay" checked in your clone stamp panel. I have CS3 so don't know how different the setting may be in CS4. If "show Overlay" isn't checked in the clone stamp palette, you could try a reset of the clone stamp tool. (Right click the stamp tool icon's little drop down arrow in the Options bar (not the tool box), and select reset tool. If that doesn't work, the next step would be to reset Photoshop preferences. -
Clone Stamp and Healin Brush not Working
I am also having problems with this healing brush and clone stamp tool
I am running Windows 7 (64 bit on a powerful computer with 6 Gb Ram and pleanty of HDD space.)
I am using a wired mouse and do not have a tablet connected.
I have duplicated the Background as a backgound copy ab\nd mad the backgound invisible ther backgound copy layer is selected and is made visible.
Clicking on the either tool, I move the cursor to the source area I wish to clone from and [Alt]-Click. I then try to love the cursor to the destination area, the part I want to cover up with material from the source area.
What happens is the entire image moves showing as I move the mouse, revealing an other image below that does not move.
Either I do not understand what these tools are supposed to do, (I doubt that because I have used this tool several times in PSE 6 without problems.) or there is something terribly wrong with the program.
I underststand, fronm reading the forums that the same problem exists in CS4.
I have checked for updates but the only update that I have not downloaded and installed is support for Raw files from newer cameras.
PS The files I am working on are originally JPGs and have not been converted from any other file type.
Below is a screen shot illustrating the offset image.
Thanks for any help you may offer.
BTW Does Adobe support this program? I can only find help this kind of help in the forums.Hi,
This looks like you have the overlay feature turned on for the tool. When you select the clone or healing brush, look up in the options bar and select the icon for more options. Uncheck the box that says "Overlay". I am not sure if each one is independently set in Elements or if a check mark turning on or off overlay effects both tools as it does with Photoshop.
I don't have a copy of Elements that includes this feature but on the option bar the icon that you need to click is located below where it says "sign in" in the editor...to the right of where it says "all layers"---square icon.
Edit: See Post #1 in which Barbara has a screen shot showing where to look in Elements to turn on/off the screen overlay feature.

Edit: I see while I was increasing my neighbor's herd of cows...MTSTUNER has posted another screenshot of the options panel. I'll leave this up anyway just in case you also have CS4.
This is a screen shot of The clone source palette settings that control the overlay in Photoshop CS3. I'll include this screenshot of where to look in Photoshop just in case you also have CS4 since you mentioned looking through the Photoshop forum for the answer. In Photoshop, this feature can be turned on/off in the clone source palette. The check mark will effect both clone stamp and healing brush...they share the current setting.
I actually forgot that this feature also effected the healing brush as well as the clone stamp. Want to guess how I keep mine set? LOL.
To be fair, I guess looking at this image I could see with a low opacity setting how it could be useful if I wanted to increase this herd of cows.
