Clone Stamp Tool in CS6 Will Not Work on Tiff Files

All of a sudden the Clone Stamp Tool does not work when working on a tif file. Yes I get the Circle with + sign when I press the ALT Key but tool will not clone.

I found out that it affects all file extensions. Files were created after adjustments in Bridge. Layer is not locked. Opacity is at 46. Now as I reviewed your answer, I was looking at a FAQ about the same thing. Truthfully I did not know that you could reset tools.
I found out how to reset the CSTool and voila!!! Now works fine.

Clone Stamp Tool and Healing Brush not working - why?

As pointed out in the thread subject line, both the clone stamp tool and healing brush are not working for me in Photo Elements 7.
When I am attempting to use it, I get the message: "Could not use clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined". Well, this is not the case since I did define it with command Alt + left mouse click.
Background:
Photo Elements 7 is installed in Windows XP Professional SP3. The latter runs as a virtual O/S with Sun VirtualBox on host SuSE Linux 11.1 (Gnome).
I have run out of ideas as to what the problem could be, so I am requesting assistance from the forum community. Thank you very kindly in advance for replies.

Do you mean photoshop elements 7 and not premiere elements?
The fix posted above only applies to linux os systems, which is
different from mac and windows.
On windows vista Alt+left click is to set the clone source.
Try the following steps one at a time.
1. reset the clone stamp tool by clicking triangle on the far left of the
tool options bar and select reset tool.
2. Go to Edit>Preset Manager and click Done in the dialog that appears.
3. Reset the elements 7 preferences by holding down the Shift+Alt+Ctrl keys
at the same time you start elements 7. In the dialog that appears, click yes.

Photoshop CS6 will not read my raw files

I have both a Canon 5D Mark 3 and a Canon 70D and CS6 will not read my RAW files. I have to convert them to DNG to work on them. Suggestions?

According to this Adobe help link, the 5D Mark III had support since Camera Raw version 7.1 and the 70D had support since version 8.2, which CS6 should support fully. (CS6 supports up to the latest Camera Raw, which is version 8.7 as of this post.)
Is everything updated? (Help > Updates in Photoshop.)

Clone, spot healing tool, content aware will not work on 11 or 12

The following tools will not work on PSE 11 or 12: clone, spot healing, content aware. Using 3 yr old iMac with latest OS. Same problem on Mac Book. I must be something wrong.

I'm not sure what was going on. I eneded up discarding the photo I was working on and open up another one and everything worked. I guess just a little hitch in it's gitty-up!

Photoshop CS5 Clone Stamp Tool option-click just stopped working, why?

I've been using clone stamp tool option-click (healing brush option-click also) on Photoshop CS5 on my Mac 10.6.5 and it stopped working suddenly on Monday. Had just used it on Sunday. So, I've tried to isolate the problem.
1. Went to Apple store and my keyboard and mouse work fine on their inhouse systems running Photosochop CS5. Problem still exists on home system.
2. Adobe photoshop suggested I go back to Mac 10.6.3. I did and problem still exits.
3. Reset all presets in CS5. Problem still exists.
4. Spent several hours with Adobe Photoshop tech on phone -- he couldn't make it work remotely either using his keyboard. Reloaded Photoshop from scratch. Problem still exists.
Question:
Could this be a hardware problem? Graphic board problem?
Or is this a software problem aside from Mac OS and CS5?

If your new user account is working.... why not use it? The system seems fine but something went screwy with the settings in your original account.

Problem using the clone stamp tool in cs6 64 bit

I am trying to use the clone stamp tool, however each time I alt click on a PC runing system 7- 64 bit and try to clone an area, I get a window stating that I have not defined an area. Alt clicking again does not solve the problem. I work in a computer lab and this option works fine on our Macs using option click in PS CS6.

If »Show Overlay« is checked in the Clone Source Panel is the cursor showing the source imagery?
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?

Quick select tool hangs and will not work

All of a sudden the quick select tool will not work/hangs up has a mind of its own and wanders/ after installing an upgrade to Nik software Color Efex Pro 4. I put that in the trash as I could not find a way to unistall. Probably still part of it in other areas?
Still did not work. Then I uninstalled PS 5.5 extended. Reinstalled to find it the same as before. All preference etc the same and a blank cach document show up in Bridge, did this before too. It is like I never uninstalled it.
What gives. How do I get a clean copy of PS?

There is no such thing as a system wide uninstaller on a Mac. Only a few select applications, like some of Adobe's, install an application-specific Uninstaller, e.g. in the Utilities folder of your root level ./Applications folder. I have no idea if Nik provides such an uninstaller or not.

Photoshop CS6 will not open any graphics files

Photoshop cs6 will not open graphic files, i have reset the settings. I get to see all the files in preview but when I try to open a file nothing happens, no error messages, no file opens, nothing.
When I use bridge I try to open the file with open in photoshop cs6 but again nothing happens. I found that if I reboot my PC photoshop will work correctly until I shut photoshop down but if I reopen it later before rebooting my pc now graphics files will open.

I have used the HP Diagnostics tools, monthly, however recently I can set it, save it (as before) but it will not run.

I understand that your HP Diagnostics Tools are not working and you are looking to have them fixed. I am not sure if you are talking about the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, but if you are I would advise downloading and installing the latest version. If you are not I would encourage you to post which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this I can provide you with accurate information.
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
As well if you could be a bit clearer on exactly which tools you are referring too.

CS6 will not read 70D raw files?

OK. I just upgraded from a 60D to a 70D and I am so in love BUT my RAW file can not be read by my Photoshop CS6. Do I need to upgrade? Yes, normally the camera's come with their own EOS Utility image upload but my computer will not recognize that either.... HELP PLEASE!! I need to edit photo in RAW not JPEG!

In your case it would be Photoshop>About Plug-in>Camera Raw
Click on words Camera Raw to display the version.
Unfortunately, camera raw 8.4 won't work on mac os x 10.6.8, but camera raw 8.3 will and should open the canon 70D files
Download this installer for camera raw 8.3 and see if it works:

Photoshop CS5 will not open some tiff files

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and I'm using Photoshop CS5 as my default program for opening .jpg and .tif files.
Recently I installed a new scanner (Canon Lide210) and I usually save the scanned images as .tif files (for manipulation later).
Images in .tif format saved from scans with my old Canon scanner (that does not work with Windows 7) open fine in Photoshop but images from the new scanner will not open (message says 'Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop').
Can anyone help with this? I always thought tifs were tifs and didn't realise there could be different 'versions'.
I do a lot of detailed artwork and it's important that I can work with tif files (and preferably with this new scanner!!)

The scanner options are to save as JPEG/Exif, TIFF or BMP (with standard, low compression or high compression).
I've just scanned a colour photo and saved it in all three formats (standard compression). All the files now open in PS, with the Camera Raw preview screen (which I've never seen before!).
I've also scanned a black and white drawing, both as a B&W photo and as a B&W document, and saved these scans as TIFFs. Both these now open in PS. The older files that I have not been able to open in PS still do not open. (These files open in MSoft Picture Manager and Quicktime Picture Viewer - though the quality is awful in Picture Viewer.)
It seems to me that whatever was causing the problem might have been 'cured' by some recent software update.
Do you think this is the likely answer? If you'd still be interested to look at one of the rogue files then I could upload one.

Brand new iMac. Indesign CS6 will not work at all. It will not reinstall. Tried to contact adobe and I get nowhere.

I can't reinstall from the adobe site. I get an installation failed message. I can't use the version that I transferred from my old iMac. I am missing plug-ins. Something called JBX and LILO.Indesing.Plugin. I can't find any of these on the web or on the adobe site. I've called apple they say they are third party things and can't help me. Other users have had similar issues but I can't find out how they solved them. I am in a panic. I have a ton of work to do and can't get my swell new computer to run my software. RUNNING CS6

SJ1122 have you removed the migrated InDesign CS6 installation using the uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder? If so then please also run the CC Cleaner tool - Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html to ensure complete removal.
Adobe applications are not designed to be copied/migrated/transferred to other computers. In the future please migrate/transfer/copy your documents and settings and reinstall your Adobe Creative Applications.

Clone Stamp Tool Strange Behavior

When I select a source area and roll the mouse, a second copy of the entire image starts to move according to mouse movement. I then click the mouse again, and the image stops moving, but then the clone source has been relocated to a position exactly at the pointer location.
Earlier I had found that the clone stamp tool just plain did not work. I then started playing with tool options andprobably did something to induce this behavior.
I then tried resetting the tool but the behavior is the same.
How can I restore normal behavior?

The clone stamp will not work in AE CC

When I click on the clone stamp tool, nothing changes and I'm unable to use the tool. The clone stamp symbol becomes highlighted, but the curser doesn't change to a circle over the image and just stays as an arrow. When I try to sample an area by holding down alt/option, nothing happens and I am unable to do anything. Does anyone have any help for this problem?

The Clone Stamp tool works in a layer source window, not the main comp viewer window. Double click on your target layer in the timeline to open its layer source viewer.
