Cloned HDD and replaced but now getting permissions issues.
I'm receiving that error message. BACKSTORY: I was experiencing general slowdowns when using various applications and sometimes odd behavior when browsing the internet with Chrome (this site is untrusted errors that wouldn't replicate after starting a new session sometimes, facebook, my bank, sometimes even google.com) I suspected that my HDD may be starting to fail, so I bought a new drive, cloned my current HDD and installed the new one. I'm still experiencing some slow downs, but I haven't had the other issue resurface, so I'm thinking a fresh OS and restore of needed data is next. Anyway....my issue currently is that I can't delete anything. I created a blank folder and tried to delete that and couldn't. Do I need to do anything on the OS level to acknowledge this new HDD as my primary? Please help
Well cloning crap is still crap, but now it's optimized/defragmented faster crap because of the cloning onto a new drive.
Run through this list of fixes systematically and see how it goes.
Fresh install is a last resort usually.

The way I read that comment – you seem to suggest the Mac was broken before the third party replaced the disk - is that the case or was it working before the HD was replaced?
Since the Mac is out of warranty you will have to pay for any repairs wherever you take it. Authorised Apple service centres will be able to get parts whereas any non certified technicians will have to use 'grey market' parts since Apple will not sell parts to the public. These may be reconditioned or not official parts - it's a risk to use them. Visit the Apple store & ask them - there is no point in lying about it being handled by a third party. An Apple tech may be able to tell when they open the case, depending on how meticulous your third party was.
If you are handy with a screwdriver & have tools and a lot of patience you could use a guide on iFixit.com, but there is no indication of why this Mac not booting up.
It could be that the disk is not formatted correctly.
Are you sure the tech copied an OS onto the disk? Did they install the OS for you or did they clone the old disk?
Can you boot from a backup disk or from an install disk? Does the disk appear in Disk Utility when booted from another OS (either the installer or a backup).
'Not booting' can mean so many things, what does booting do exactly? Grey screen, black screen, any noises or tones, any signs of life at all…?
If you look at the iFixit guides you will see many fiddly connectors, if the tech failed to hook them all back up it could explain the failure, or perhaps you just have a disk that is 'dead on arrival' - sometimes that happens. A properly trained technician should be able to figure that one out. -
still running adobe cs2 on leopard. but now get unexpected quit msg. and wont launch. any chance that when i installed then uninstalled GENIEO yesterday something went wrong? how to fix? can i reinstall cs2 from original discs? bystephenftlaud

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open CS2. -

when syncing with itunes, got error message saying had error and now ipad2 will not do anything other than showing the USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes on screen. have done the reset and restart, but still get same thing. Ipad does not show up in itunes even though cable plugged in. Have shut down and restarted Windows 7 computer.
I had done all of that to no avail. I did call Apple Tech Support and after he suggested I try a USB port in the rear of the Win 7 computer, things starting working again. I had tried switching the USB port at the front of the machine but that had not helped. Everything is good to go again. thanks for your reply

When I did a Google search on "1416 error ipod 5th," there is some discussion that the earlier version of the logic board only accepted 30 and 60 GB drives (or words to that effect), but the later "5.5" version did allow larger capacity drives. If that info is true, the question is, do you have a compatible combination of logic board and hard drive?

For what it is worth I have noticed a similar issue from the iPad3 while at work and home. At work we have two Apple TV 3rd Generation installed and tied to our A/V system. I believe the issue has to do with a timeout on the broadcast saying "here I am" and allowing devices to connect.
For example:
At work we have several Wi-Fi SSID being broadcast from Cisco APs. The only one we can use with the Apple TV is the one that uses a WEP since the others are either setup to be hidden, require web page authentication, or have a login requirement from employees. Essentially, what I believe the issue is that the Apple TV periodically broadcasts a message to other iOS devices that support Mirroring. When the Apple TV does not get a response from a device it goes into a dormant mode and requires either a command from the remote control or a reboot. This has been tested with both the power management enabled and not enabled with the same results.
As for when I come home, the Apple TV3 has not seen the device in some time and therefore is not broadcasting it's location information. A simple click of the circle or menu keys on the remote will give it the command to start broadcasting again and allow the iPad3 to see the Apple TV. When trying to Home Share the computer can not play (iTunes 11, Win8RTM) until the Apple TV is awoken then it will show up for mirroing.
This may or may not assist you but, it hopefully explains how the issue may be happening. -
It is a 64 GB Iphone 5s and I am running Windows 7 x64 on all of my pcs.
I just got an iphone 5s and now it wont connect to any of my windows 7 PCs, it just gets detected as an unknown device and is unable to be detected correctly. It was connected to one windows 7 pc about a week ago and worked but now I tested it on 4 other computers including a macbook running osx and it isnt detected. I tried the whole Apple Guide and it was no help.install the latest version of itunes

Have FIOS Quantum router up and running - but now can't connect to Tivo or my Aria scale -help!
Getting my router set up was quick and easy, but now I have a problem that has me stumped. I am not a router expert, so need help.
Neither my Tivos nor my Aria scale can connect to my router.

Anybody who has run into this and has advice for me?

HELP!Interestingly enough, as soon as I plugged in our old trusted ActionTec, my Tivo connected without a problem, and I got my Motorola NIM100 to stop blinking. Go figure. On the phone now with Verizon (on hold) to figure this out. If not, it's going back.

TV Screen says "No signal" when I try to use apple TV. Was working. ie Little Apple symbol would appear on TV screen, but now get "No signal" Internet connection working (light on apple TV)...tried new HDMI cable but still "No signal" HELP please
Same exact problem with my Apple TV. Worked like a charm the first two times we used it. Haven't used it in about a month, now no Apple logo when I turn it on, or the logo appears momentarily and distorted, and then an error message from my Samsung HD TV: Mode Not Supported.

My LR 4 suddenly no longer recognized my memory cards.
