Cloning 11i from RHEL 3 to RHEL 4
Hi,
We have current EBS 11i on RHEL 3 O.S.
Is it possible to clone it to another server with RHEL 4.6 O.S.?
Thanks a lotYes, you can. You can clone from one operating system version to another if the target system platform is binary compatible with the source system platform. Cloning from a higher version of a platform to a lower version is not supported
For more details, please review the following note (Can I clone from one operating system version to another?)

Cloning 11i non split to split configuration with RAC and ASM
Hello Hussein,
I just want to ask some ideas on what is the best way to clone our UAT/DEV environment to our PROD environment.
Right now no RAC and ASM setup for the source system still 9.2.0.5 but the plan is to convert to ASM + 10g RAC.
Can you please let me know on what is the best way to setup PROD out of our UAT environment?
Here's my options:
1. Install a fresh prod system
2. Convert source system to ASM + RAC before cloning to target - setup as below:
(Source)
APPS server - 32bit
DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 32bit
(Target)
APPS server - 32bit
DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 64bit
3. Clone existing target system (non RAC and non ASM)
copy source APPL directories to target
Install 64 bit Oracle 10g to the target system
clone/convert database source (9i 32bit) to database targer (10g 64 bit) using RMAN.
Install clusterware 11gR2
Convert database to RAC
Can you please let me know on what is the best approach to do this? For fresh install it will take some time to apply the current patch level and applying other patches.
For Option 2, seems a bit complicated to do 32bit - 64 bit cloning on RAC. Appreciated if you can provide doc id for this.
For Option 3, not sure how smooth the conversion from 32bit to 64bit.
Appreciate your insights on this.
Regards,
jeffreyHi Jeffrey,
Since you are on 9.2.0.5, I assume you are running Oracle Apps 11i and not R12.
1. Install a fresh prod systemThis option requires applying all patches (as you mentioned above) plus you will have to convert to ASM/RAC on the source/target instance. I would not recommend this approach since would require extra work/time.
2. Convert source system to ASM + RAC before cloning to target - setup as below:
(Source)
APPS server - 32bit
DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 32bit
(Target)
APPS server - 32bit
DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 64bitWhat are the source and target database version?
As per (Certified RAC Scenarios for E-Business Suite Cloning [ID 783188.1]) this is supported by Rapid Clone. So, in this case you need to convert the source instance to RAC and migrate to ASM then use Rapid Clone to clone the application/database.
Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with Rapid Clone [ID 230672.1] -- 6. Cloning a RAC System
You will have to convert the target database then from 32-bit to 64-bit.
3. Clone existing target system (non RAC and non ASM)
copy source APPL directories to target
Install 64 bit Oracle 10g to the target system
clone/convert database source (9i 32bit) to database targer (10g 64 bit) using RMAN.
Install clusterware 11gR2
Convert database to RAC Here you will have to convert to RAC/ASM on both the source/target instances -- You are eliminating the patches part in Option 1, but again extra work need to be done to convert the database from 32-bit to 64-bit on the target instance + convert to RAC and migrate to ASM (on both instances).
Based on the above, I would recommend and suggest you go with Option 2.
Thanks,

Oracle Applications Manager problem after cloning 11i
Hi All,
After cloning ebs 11.5.10.2 from AIX 5.3 to AIX 6.1, I have problem with OAM.
When I call OAM, after login, I get a blank page with Oracle icon in the upper left corner.
It seems that everything else works fine.
Acces_log, error_log does not give any error message.
Really appreciate your help
Thanks
BorisHi.
I tried all the above, without success.
Now I have a new problem, after I tried to relink according DOC ID 356878.1
adrelink.sh force=y "ad adadmin"
an error occurs:
"XCOFF64 object files are not allowed in 32-bit mode".
After playing with [ID 456985.1] and OBJECT_MODE=64 I do not know what next,.
Is it problem with AIX 6.1 and database 9.2.0.6 (which is part of ebs 11.5.10.2)?
Thanks

Hi.
We have 11.5.8 installed on 2 (2-cpu) servers (one for db and concurrent processes, and one for 9iAS). Now we need to move this installation to a single server (8-cpu). How should we do this? I've read different articles in metalink about cloning, but they don't consider the multi-node to single-node case.
Can anyone help us, please?
Thanks in advance and regards,
GriseldaHi,
Looks like that you raised up the tricky question.
Back in thinking you got some plans in technically that will be accepted.
In the hosts file aliases has to be done like i am talking about in concept wise.
Onece you through with the hostaname aliases in sense then you can get your database and applications with the same hostname in to the new server and get it done.
I am not sure whether it can work or some thing but still you can try.
Thanks and Regards

Hi hussein,
I am cloning 11i and it prompts me these questions:
Provide the values required for creation of the new Database Context file.
1. Do you want to use a virtual hostname for the target node (y/n) [n] ?:
2. Target instance is a Real Application Cluster (RAC) instance (y/n) [n]:How can I make a virtual hostname? is it the one used by VMware?
(2nd Q) Does this mean I can clone from a single node to RAC?
Thank a lot,
Ms IndayNo dear...what I mean is I have a single node (11i) now. I want to clone it to a RAC environment.
Im confused, I have read a doc that I can clone a RAC to a single node, but not single node to RAC? In this case, please see this thread.
Cloning non-RAC to RAC ?
Cloning non-RAC to RAC ?

11i eBiz RAC 9i database cloning to a envronment with existing 10g CRS
production is 9.2.0.8 RAC Need to clone production to lower instance using Rapid Clone. Has done such clone before.
The new issue is there is an another 10g RAC database with 10g Clusterware has been installed in this server and the cloned 9i RAC need to co-exist with this 10g RAC database.
I am thinking to use 10g clusterware to manager 9i RAC database.
From cloning point of view, how to clone a 9i RAC database to an environment with 10g clusterare.
Should I use 9i oracle home 9.2.0/appsutil/clone/bin/adcfgclone.pl or should I use 10g oracle home adcfgclone.pl?Hi,
production is 9.2.0.8 RAC Need to clone production to lower instance using Rapid Clone. Has done such clone before.I did not try this type of clone before. However, I believe you cannot use 10g ORACLE_HOME as cloning 11i instance with Rapid Clone on 10g database requires additional manual steps which cannot be applied to the 9i ORACLE_HOME. From Rapid Clone point of view, I believe you need to issue adcfgclone.pl from the 9i ORACLE_HOME

Weird issue occurring after cloning the R12 Vision instance.
Hi everyone,
We are currently evaluating R12 using the Vision DB instance. Since I'm seeing that the apps processes like to have at least 2gb of memory, the initial server just isn't beefy enough for R12 so I cloned it over to a better server following metalink Note:406982.1 (Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone)
There were various cloning issues that came up that fortunately, I was able to resolve myself .. still with tarring up directories, ftp'ing the tar files, etc etc it took almost 2 days to finish the clone.
Upon starting the clone I'm seeing the following errors reported when the db listener and the apps fndfs listener start:
TNS-01114: LSNRCTL could not perform local OS authentication with the listener
TNS-01115: OS error 22 creating shared memory segment of 129 bytes with key 2044160132
However, the listener processes actually do start even though the above errors are reported and I verify that I can see the server processes for both. In addition, I can login to apps and do everything without any issues and login from sqlplus to the database remotely and everything appears to be working.
But if I try to look at the listener status or try to stop either listener process I get the above errors. So, if I need to bounce the app or the db I have to actually kill the listener processes in order to do so. Then upon startup, the above situation repeats.
So, I've opened a SR in regards to this as it appears to be a cloning bug. The only metalink hits I found were talking about the shmsys:shminfo_shmmni setting (currently at 200) but I don't think that's it since I've had 6 apps instances up and running on this particular server before.
Currently the R12 Vision instance is running with RUP 1 applied. I did see there was a new Techstack update and a new RUP 2 update for apps released just last week but thought I would ask if anyone else who's used rapid clone with R12 experienced similiar issue?
Thanks.

I think your perl version is a little low for R12. Here is what I have in an upgraded R12 from 11.5.10.2 Vision:

Can anyone help me to fix the issue? Your assistance will be highly appreciated.

In ICM log file, I see occurrence of these error messages in bulk.It looks Mangers are wrongly defined or fnd_nodes having some incorrect values.
Do I have to perform the application clone again or is there any another way to fix it.

Hi does anyone have any practical experience with cloning of release 12 using Oracle VM ?
I need to knock out some environments during the upgrade project - vmware technology is ideal for copying an environment - I dont want to have to clone the db and app server each time as this is time consuming and i AM THINKING THERE may be an easier way ...
Welcome advice from anyone who has cloned 11i or release 12 system using vmware/oracle vm technology.
In the past I have run pre clone on app server, copied app server and db and run adclone to configure the new server .. this is quite time consuming
Concurrent manager uses os hostname command to sort out name of server so this could be a problem which would not work with straight copy and edit to hosts file such that server x thinks it server y because server y is in /etc/hosts file ...
This copy and amend approach has worked Ok with soasuite for example I need advice with respect to Oracle Financials ...
many thanks in advance

This copy and amend approach has worked Ok with soasuite for example I need advice with respect to Oracle Financials ...If you use WMware and if you want to do some upgrade process and dont want to take backup or clone of EBS than you can try to use Snapshoot option. Before start process use menu (It should be under tool menu top of screen) and take snapshoot.Let us say call it Level0 which mean your system working and didnt apply any patch etc.. Each steps of upgrade you can give new name. If you have any issue during upgrade or other process you can turn to snapshoot which u took.
The other steps, you can copy/paste your Wm folder(If you have valid space on disk) and if you have any isue during upgrade you can use this backup but dont forget you need to start over what you do before on this backup(Be sure you have same entery on hosts file)
If you want to take clone, as Hussein Sawwan's mention you need to follow clone docs.

EM after Apps 11i clone?
Hi,
after cloning 11i (using rapidclone), EM isn't configured for the clone target. When I start
EM (emctl start dbconsole) I'm told EM is trying to start on the host of the clone source.
Can I change the way I clone so that I don't have to manually reinstall EM after each clone?
thanks
brhNo. Rapid Clone is not currently aware of the 10g host.domain_sid directory in the $ORACLE_HOME which houses the configuration files for the dbconsole. You only option is to either recreate the repository as you mentioned, or change the repsitory directory and every file that references the source server/host/listener/instance. You would probably want to script that, or find that dropping and recreating the repository is faster.

Refresh 11i environment on exactly same node
Hello Hussein,
If I need to refresh my 11i environment and I have a backup of APPL_TIER and DB_TIER directories, do I just need to replace all existing directories using my backup? Or is there any other addtional steps that I need to do? Note that its exactly same structure and same server.
Thanks a lot,
JeffreyHello Hussein,
Yes its exactly the same. All configurations are exactly the same.
Thanks a lot.
By the way I am doing some test also regarding cloning 11i environment (multi node) to another server but the DB tier of target server is 64bit. The scenario is that, the target db node is configured with crs with clustered oracle home but not yet converted to RAC (still waiting for other team to test) and my target db is just standalone setup.
I tried below approches:
- Copying oracle_home and oracle files of my source db server (32bit) and restored it to my target db server(64bit).
But upon mounting the db I got somethig cluster error, I think this is expected since I cloned it from clustered environment. And CRS is not yet configured to my target server.
- I installed 32bit oracle to my target server (I encountered a lot of relinking issues since its 32bit software and my server is 64bit). And I dont have time to fix this issues, so what I did was to install local oracle software from my source db server and copied to target server. It works but I got INVALID components after restoring the database from source db.

- I installed 64bit oracle software to target DB and restored database from my source db.
(startup migrate, utlip.sql,ulrp.sql) but still I got Invalid components as above.
Can you please let me know on how to resolve this issues, and please advice if there are any other options.
My next option is use rman backup then restore it to target. But I assume I still get Invalid components.
Thanks alot,

11i Rapid Clone Not Certified With 10g/11g RAC???
Metalink document 230672.1, "Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with Rapid Clone" was updated Feb. 2009 with the following:
February 04, 2009
- Added 11i/10g/11g RAC clarification on Section 4 Steps 6 and 7.
- Corrected incorrect format statements.
The clarification?
Attention: The following steps apply only for 9i RAC Clusters. Rapid Clone is not certified for Cloning 11i with 10g or 11g RAC Systems at this time.
10g RAC support for EBS has existed for quite a while, what's up with this? I'm in the middle of upgrading my 11i EBS on 9i RAC environments to 10gR2 RAC.
Anyone cloning 11i with 10g/11g RAC? How are you doing it?
Disgusted,
JerryTake a look Doc ID: 230672.1 on Metalink Section 6 talks about Cloning a RAC system
If you're trying to search for anything on EBS look for Applications 11i, because most docs refer to it as Applications 11i more often then EBS.
