Cloning a 11i OA system

Hi,
whene cloning a 11i OA system, should we delete and recreate $common_top/clone (on APP server)and $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/clone (on DB server)directories before executing adpreclone.pl ?
Or adpreclone will recreate them it-self ?

Cloning EBS 11i AIX 5L

Hi Friends,
I am cloning EBS 11i AIX 5L on the same server.
Currently we have EBS 11i PROD on the server, @user oracle.
I want to clone it to EBS 11i TEST on the same server, @user oracle2.
Things I did:
1. run autoconfig
2. run preclone programs
3. copy appl and db file to new location for user oracle2.
4. run cloning at user oracle2.
But I got the following error:

Cloning EBS 11i Bug

I have been cloning our EBS 11i for many times before at it was good. Lately I applied set of patches. Then what happened is every time I clone, I have to edit the http.conf
The patches have affected the public access of the system, in a way that it seems “disabling” the public IP access. This was caused by the patch updating the “httpd.conf” file.
HTTPD.conf is a server configuration file which typically contains directives that affect how the server runs, such as user and group IDs it should use, and location of other files. Because the server configuration file is the main file that the server starts with, Oracle HTTP Server does not include any directive that says where to locate it. The location is passed on command line when the server starts.
This file is located at:
TRNG
/uo1/oracle/oatrngora/iAS/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf
PROD
/u02/oracle/oaprodora/iAS/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf
To resolve the public IP access problem, edit the httpd.conf file and find the following lines:

The above patches were test applied at the test sever OATRNG, and after checking that it solved the issues it was then carried out to the Production (PROD)

R12.1.1 upgrade from 11.5.10.2 - Can remove 11i file system before upgrade?

I am looking at doing the R12.1.1 upgrade on our 11.5.10.2 production system, I have done the upgrade in our Test enviornment already. Our production system has less disk space on the path with the current 11i system that will be the same location as the upgraded R12 filesystem.
Is it ok/possible to backup the 11i structure to another path prior to the R12 upgrade or does the R12 upgrade installer need the 11i file structure to be in place while upgrading?

1. Do you want to use a virtual hostname for the target node (y/n) [n] ?:
2. Target instance is a Real Application Cluster (RAC) instance (y/n) [n]:How can I make a virtual hostname? is it the one used by VMware?
(2nd Q) Does this mean I can clone from a single node to RAC?

Cloning EBS 11i from RHEL4.6 to OEL5.6

I done this cloning yesterday successfully but now I got error again in my 2nd testing, and always different error.
I succeeded cloning in the dbTier.
But in the appsTier I got this error:

Cloning R12 on Same system win2003

Hello,
I am new to apps DBA, I have some basic doubts about cloning. I have installed apps12 on windows2003. I would like to clone this R12 on the same machine (different physical hard disk).
1. Executed preclone on dbTier & appsTier.
2. shutdown services & copied
d:\oracle\VIS\apps to E:\clone\oracle\VIS\apps
d:\oracle\VIS\db to E:\clone\oracle\VIS\db
3. on dbTier of Target directory , I executed perl adcfgclone.pl dbTier
Then answered various prompts.
But during 6% only it is exiting with error. When checked services, listener is created & started. When i see log,
it says cannot connect to database, and after several steps protocol error also
please guide me....
And also
(i) should I change SID of target as in above step (2)
E:\clone\oracle\VIS to E:\clone\oracle\XYZ
(ii) before running adcfgclone in above step(3), which context file I have execute.

DETERMINE_PROFILES error on cloned system

Hi,
To get timings on an EHPI upgrade to EHP4, we cloned a dual stack system. ABAP and JAVA are both running without any apparent problems on the cloned system. During the EHPI upgrade soon after starting the JAVA portion of the upgrade, however, it hangs in DETERMINE_PROFILES looking for a profile for the original system. I've reviewed the following without finding any references to the old SID or the old hostname.
/etc/hosts
/etc/services
/usr/sap/sapservices
/sapmnt/<SID>/profile ( and no, there aren't any extraneous profiles nor is msgservu or enservu specified)
/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile
tnsnames.ora
environmental settings for sidadm and orasid
configtool ( I also exported the cluster information, unzipped everything, and grepped )
Anyone have any ideas on where else to look?

Cloning Clustered system

We're trying to setup a staging environment which mirrors our production cluster. The production cluster contains two systems, the first is running the admin server and managed server 1, the second system is running managed server 2.
After cloning both of these systems and changing the multicast address yesterday and starting the new (staging) admin server, the 2nd Managed Server in the production cluster detached itself from the prod admin server and attached to the staging admin server.
After a bit of Googling I saw Unicast mentioned in Weblogic 10 docs, but we are using WL8. Based on the unicast documentation though, it sounds as if it may not be possible to run both on the same network segment, or at least not without renaming everything. I started to go that route and renamed the Cluster and Admin server, but now when starting the newly renamed Admin server I get an error about boot.properties "Boot identity not valid" so I figure there's something I'm still missing. Any ideas how to do this (assuming you can have multiple clusters on the same subnet with WL8)?

Hi, There.
It sounds like you have more of a configuration issue, then a clustering one.
When you copy your files from prod, you need to do a few things:
1. remove running-managed-servers.xml from your config directory. This is what's causing your problems with detaching.
2. use a different multicast ip
3. obviously, reset your database urls and passwords. you can put them in 'plain text' into the config.xml file. weblogic will rename them
4. setup appropriate ListenAddress and Machine properties in config.xml
This will get you going!

EBS 11i Workflow mailer is down after cloning.

After cloning EBS 11i to new server the Workflow Notification Mailer is down with status "Stopped with Error".
I tried to restart it several times but still not working.

11i and Cloning/Refreshing

In previous releases, creating a copy of an apps instance or refreshing an existing instance of apps was as easy as copying datafiles & appl_tops, and then recreating the control files.
Support is telling me this no longer possible, you MUST create using the rapid install and then redo setups and then apply all patches.
This seems a little absurd. All that work and you still don't have the data in the other instance.
It seems that a basic need in every shop is a way to refresh one instance with the data from another.
If what support is telling me is true, how are others handling this issue????

Oracle now provide a cloning utility called adclone. It's provided as a patch 1636653. You still need to do a basic install from media, but then you run the adclone utility in pre-clone mode and it takes a snapshot of all the environment specific files/parameters. You then clone the APPL_TOP, JAVA_TOP, OA_HTML and database from your source environment, and finally you run the adclone utility in post-clone mode to write back all the environment specific data. That way you retain all your data, setup and patching. It's the only way Oracle will support cloning in 11i....

How do I plan for disaster recovery from multi-node Apps 11i production system for recovery to a single-node server and Apps 11i production system?
Is it possible to recover multi-node to single-node?
Would such a recovery use cloning of Apps 11i production system from source server to target server?

I guess you try a single node installation.
Forget all these 7.x version.
Take SuSE 7.0 or SuSE Enterprise Server 7 (more expensive) and it works.
The next burden you have to take is the bad ORACLE documentation.
It took a lot of time but I have 11.5.5 with Vision on a SuSE 7.0 2xPIII & 1.5 GB RAM.

R12 Cloning RAC ASM to Single

Hi,
customer has 3 environments: 2 single (dev and pre) and 1 RAC-ASM (prod). We are doing the first complete refresh from PROD to PRE, then from RAC to Single, following Note Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone [Article ID 406982.1] , which has a reference to Cloning an Oracle RAC System, which refers to follow Note Cloning Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 RAC-Enabled Systems with Rapid Clone [ID 559518.1].
Following this Note, you have to create a Database Image in an stage directory, then you need unless the same database size as free space for this db image. This is not an option for very big application databases, then our idea is not to create the db image, but cloning database separatelly, following steps in Option6 in cloning Note 406982.1.
The question is, we have to refresh DB and app tier from PROD (RAC ASM) to PRE (single), colud we ignore Note " Cloning Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 RAC-Enabled Systems with Rapid Clone [ID 559518.1]" and follow Clone Article ID 406982.1 specially Option 6, recovering PROD database separatelly with rman duplicate or we have to follow Note 559518.1 and create a db image? Any experience cloning R12 from RAC to single?

Not able to run adadmin adfter installing R12 Upgrade file system

Now we are doing 11i apps to R12 upgrade single node, before we did database upgrade 9i to 10.2.0.4,
I successfully installed R12 upgrade file system with out any errors, i have chagned the
new Installation creates APPL_TOP, COMMON_TOP, INST_TOP and 10g Oracle Home
i moved the new environment file into .bash_profile
mv .bash_profile .bash_profile_11.5.10
Iset the R12 environment , When ever i tried to run adadmin system manager password is not taking its giving error

As a oracle user i am able to see the tns_admin home dir

After installing R12 uprade file system i am able do the tnsping

after installing i am trying to apply R12.AD.B patch, do we need to apply this patch in 11i fiile system or New R12 file system, for 11i file system i am not getting any issue, but when ever i set the R12 new file system enviroment file then only i am not able to connect the database,i have changed new port numbers in R12 file system, is that causing any issues..?
