Cloning complete installation to a different environment

Hi,
We have a Production and a QA environment. We use Windows Backup to make complete system backups of all Hyperion servers. This backups strategy has been tested by breaking QA and requesting a restore from IT.
Business now asked the question: Is it possible to restore the Production backup onto the QA servers? From a business point of view the question makes sense, since a restore like this will only take 2 hours and you would have a clone of Production on QA.
Once the Production backup is restored, it will obviously be looking for the Productio IP's if you start it up.
My question is: Will it be possible to reconfigure the QA environment, after the PD backup was restored on it, to point it to the QA IP's instead?
Also, if this is at all possible, will Oracle have problems in supporting an environment like this?
(Verison 11.1.2.1 on Windows 2008 x64 with MSSQL Server)

Casper

Hi user3641156,
Thanks for the reply.
Can you maybe clarify what you mean by "it will be equal to a fresh install/config"?
Do you mean on the database side? Will I need to configure Shared Services as a "first time" and not as a previously configured db?
Do you maybe have an answer for my other question: Will Oracle have any issue in supporting an environment that was created like this? (Although I don't see why not).
Regards,
Casper

  • Java_es_05q1-windows-x86 install fails 1628: Failed to complete installation on windows xp pro sp2

    Hi All,
I'm trying to install Java ES 2005Q1 on my windows xp pro sp2 notebook, but it always breaks with this error message: 1628: Failed to complete installation
I realized that the SUNJavaES.log always ends at line 151 which is 131077 characters long.
    These are the last few characters of this line: ..." AD_MANUAL_ES_CONSOLE_HELP=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Server-Root\manua l\es\console\help\ AD_MANUAL_FR_ADMIN=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Server-Root\manual\fr\ad min\ AD_MANUAL_FR_ADMIN_HELP=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Serve "
I attached the last log file.
This line always breaks at the 131077th char independently of the content of it. I tried to skip some components of JES to see what will occur. The current content of this line obviously was different, but it has broken at the same point.
Thanks in advence for any help.

This could be due to a known issue with length of installation path
Can you try and install in a location with less than 8 characters ?
    eg: C:\JES05q1 or C:\Sun

  • Windows 7 installation freezes at "Completing installation"

    Hi!
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my mid-2010 Macbook Pro 13". I'm running Lion and have installed all avaliable updates.
I've created the partition in BootCamp and the installation starts but when it gets to "completing installation", just after the computer has rebooted the installation freezes and I'm forced to shut down the computer.
    This is what I've tried:
    * To burn several different Windows 7 iso file on DVD's with different speed (from the disk utilities).
    * Remove all USB connections (which is none since I've a wireless mouse)
Then I've no idea what to do more
One thing that could be the reason is that I (before trying to install Windows 7) had to repair my hard drive (which I did from the disk utilities) and I might have done some sort of misstake there...
    Please help!

No help needed anymore, finally managed to install it
The solution was (probably) to eject the CD when the computer reboots and then continue the installation as normal.
I'm not 100% sure this was the solution but anyways, now I've Windows installed.

  • Windows 7 installation hangs on 'completing installation' in boot camp

    hi
i am trying to install windows 7 ultimate 32 bit using boot camp and each time i have tried (except on one occasion) the installation has hanged on the 'completing installation' stage. i initially had this problem, then one time it worked, but then i had to wipe my boot camp partition and start again, and since then no joy in installing windows 7 again.
when the installation hangs it sounds like the install DVD is making a whirring sound as though there is an issue reading the DVD. but i have tried two different windows 7 install DVDs in both drives on my Mac Pro and i keep getting the same problem.
i have tried installing without any peripherals plugged in, including my cinema display, but still no joy, except for that one occasion, when i am not aware of having done anything different.
the boot camp partition is 32GB, and i have the same issue whether starting the installation using the boot camp assistant, or just booting from the Windows DVD and formatting the boot camp partition during the install.
can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
    thanks
    nick

On a Mac Pro with four hard disks, you would be better off devoting an entire HDD to Windows. You do not even need to start the Boot Camp Assistant application.
However, that does not appear to be the problem. Perhaps the size of your Windows partition is a bit on the smallish side. Why so small? Have you tried a larger partition? Going larger would be a good experiment to help drill down to the installation problem.
Try to eliminate anything under your control that could be part of the problem.
At 32GB that's the borderline between being permitted to use FAT32 formatting and being required to employ NTFS. Presumably, you allowed the installer to use NTFS. In fact I think Win7 requires NTFS. Switch the partition size a little down or a little up to eliminate that as a possible glitch point. Just a thought and probably a stupid one but you never know...
An afterthought: Can you get hold of a FireWire DVD optical drive. Maybe the internal drive is faulty.

  • Windows 7 Freezes at "Completing Installation"

So, I was installing windows 7 and everything was going great, fast, etc. Computer had just restarted, blah blah. Windows had said "Upgrading Registry and what not" and then when I got to the "Completing Installation" after about 5 minutes it just freezes, I gave it a good 20 minutes of just sitting there before coming to the conclusion it might be a hardware problem?
Then again, why would I get so far in the installation before it doing that? It was at about the 70% marker.
Btw, I'm upgrading to Windows 7 32bit, I'm running Vista 32bit atm, and Vista is freshly installed after a Hard Drive format about a week ago.
Soes any help would be great, if it matters any deal about my computer specs I'm on:
    - AMD 64X Dual Core 3.00ghz.
    - GeFORCE XFX 6600 512mb
    - Default High Def Sound Card
Running a HP PC, but would have really matter?
Anyway, if anyone has any fixes for this or solutions, suggestions, what ever have you, I'm interested.
And also, I should note that I've tryed installing 3-4 times now with the exact same outcome.
I've tryed just the "Update" option, then after that I tryed the "Custom" option in the installation while it was already booted up.
Would a clean installation be the possible fix? The reason I haven't tred I clean installation is cause I just reinstalled Vista and formatted my hard drive a week ago meaning I'd have to make a 100gig backup of my programs, but if doing a clean sweap would have a 100% success rate, I'm all in.
Oh, one more thing, I first tried writing a CD with a RW DVD but I've tryed with 2 different types as well all going at 2x write speed. I still get the same installation Freeze.

I am glad to say that issue solved! Thanks a lot to all of you from that forum, but key problem solver was a guy Alex from MS Technical support.
The problem has been solved after disabling video card in device manager. I was scared to do that before. I believed that this will lead to “no video” situation since I have only one vide card. In fact that action disabled
    only driver.
So the successful installation steps were following:
    1.
    Minimize comp configuration:
    Only 1 HDD;
    Only one chip of RAM (4 G in my case);
    Only PS2 keyboard;
    2.
Optimize HDD as recommended at :
    3.
Run complete installation up to the “Completing installation step” freeze.
    4.
Activate Computer Manager as described by SheilaP at
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproinstall/thread/7d765b66-17c6-46e8-94e2-dd39b5b504c1?prof=required;
    5.
Disable all devices with “!” mark and video card also (even if it doesn’t have “!”, as it was in my case). Continue
    the installation.
    Again special thanks to :

  •  Ps installation on two different boot volumes of same machine?   Ps 11.0.2 Mac PPC  and then...

Hello, I'm new to this forum.
My goal here is to have two different Photoshop 11.0.2 installations on two different boot volumes of one and the same Power Mac (PPC) G5 Quad, one being a Tiger 10.4.11 system and the other one a Leopard 10.5.8 system, for the purpose of installing two different modalities of the same Epson Photo Stylus 2200 printer, one with the printer set to use the photo black ink cartridge for luster and glossy papers, and the other one using the matte blank ink.
This is because I prefer to simply change the startup disk when switching inks rather than having to delete and re-add the necessary printers.  (This particular printer does not support ink cartridge switching under any version of Mac OS X.)
Photoshop is currently only used on this one machine.  Obviously this intended scheme fits well within the EULA conditions.
    My three questions are:
    (a) whether there is any technical issue I have failed to consider,
    (b) whether each copy of Photoshop on the same machine will have to be activated separately (in other words, is the activation tied to the CPU or to the boot volume drive?), and
    (c) if the answer to the latter question is yes, whether this will count as one or two activations for purposes of later installing a single instance of the Photoshop 13.x ("CS6") upgrade on an Intel- MacBook, since obviously C6 will not run on my PPC Mac.  Again in sum, will I be able to continue to run Photoshop 11.0.2 on two different volumes of the same PPC machine and the Photoshop 13.x upgrade on the laptop?
As further explanation, I would use Photoshop 13.x on the Mac-Intel laptop only in order to run ACR 7.x, but would keep my PPC G5 Quad as my photo editing and printing machine running Photoshop 11.0.2, since an upgrade of my desktop machine to a comparably powerful Mac Pro is simply not an option for both financial and technical reasons (the Classic environment is essential).
Any and all input and guidance will be appreciated.

  • Bootcamp Hangs on Completing Installation!!

    Hello,
I am trying to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro. I have downloaded the Windows support software to another CD and I have been trying to install the Windows 7. It partitions it fine and then it goes into the setup of Windows 7. It gets a check on every thing up to "Installing Updates" After that it reboots and starts the "Completing installation" The three dots will continue to go for a little bit but then after about 4 minutes it just freezes up. Nothing works. The mouse won't work and I can't click any buttons. So I have to hold down the power button. I have done this maybe 5 times. I have looked things up online about freezing and I try their suggestions but none work! I have been trying all day to get it to work but it won't. It is very weird! I try to run it in Safe Mode but it says that I can't do that and it makes me reboot it again in Windows. I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4; 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; Mid 2010 model. I have enough memory to partition and enough left on Mac. Please help!

I have been trying to install window 7 operating system through booth camp assistant, i will finish all the stages for window to complete installation it will hook. the installation cannot be able to complete and i really install windows on it, please i need an assistance on how to go about it.

Right now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea.

  • SP3 Almost completes installation but freezes at the Finishing stage showing "Running processes after install"

I have an HP Pavilion zd7000 laptop with Windows XP & SP2 update installed. Processor is Intel Pentium 4. My system is clean with no rubbish software running. I have several anti-malware & anti-spyware systems installed but they are dormant & not running during the attempted installation. SP3 almost completes installation but freezes at "Finishing" stage showing "Running processes after install". Anti-virus is of course switched off. The system then hangs fore-ever with hard disc activity showing intermittently but nothing else happening. Luckily, by holding down the laptop on/off switch I can always eventually restore to previous settings & recover full use but without SP3! This is annoying & frustrating. I have seen a lot of threads about this problem but no real answers. Can anyone help please?

What is Shmrate.exe is not running?
This can be read two different ways
One well if you look at it like this
    User>shmgrate>Operating system>drivers>computer. Result is denied!
If you have something like this
User > User Account Control >Operating system>drivers>computer. Result is denied again!
Note that an adminstrator is only a adminstrator and Computer Adminstrator can install Sp(s). Which I believe is tyour question. Which is my guess.
Which is the reason some people reccommend installing from the "Adminstrator" account Which generally is not a User account. Yes some people add and modify there account access by using Subinacl.exe and reset.cmd, which bumps the account from adminstrator to Computer Adminstrator. An alternative is to boot into safe mode. Pressing the *F8* key before the windows welcome screen starts up. And selecting safe mode. Which is why more people report success with using the .ISO install.
To add to your confusion. Windows Sp2 usually has windows installer 3.0, or windows installer 3.1
Table us types of accounts. I wish windows 200 documentation had made it completely into Xps documentation. They had an excellent table with tthe types of accounts
Limited user. Not able to run more then basic programs. Not able to ;install device drivers, not able to install progras, not able to install Sp(s)s
Power user Able to run more advanced programs. IE Defragger.
adminstrator. Mess with the operating system, back up things, able to install programs, add users. When Windows Xp is installed this is the type of user associated with adminstrator. NOT CA
Computer adminstrator. Able to Install of all things Sp(s).
Hopefully this helps you out. Of course there is the release notes, Xp solution center and of course things to do before installing Sp3.

  • Windows 7 Completing Installation + Bootcamp + Freezing

    Hi All,
I have read the forum and see that it is quite common that the Windows 7 is freezing up on the "completing installation". I have tried a few of the suggestions, for example, increasing hardrive from 25G to 60G and even putting a USB keyboard and touching keys on it, and well, nothing has worked. Here are the details:
    1. 2010 Core Duo 2 Intel MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) with 4G Ram
    2. I successfully installed W7 on this MacBook Pro once with 25G of ram, but had to restore my lion and destroyed the W7 partition.
    3. Reloaded Lion
    4. Went to bootcamp to install W7
    5. Made the MacBook Pro OS bootcamp DVD (with the drivers I assume)
    6. Made attempt 4 times with 60G partition to install W7
    7. When installing W7 did the advance and custom option formatting drive to NSTF
    8. Windows 7 will reboot once and then freeze on completing installation, even the mouse arrow freezes
I need some realistic solutions that will fix this problem. I have paid my dues, I have read the forum solutions, nothing worked that I tried.
I need to install W7 for graduate school work, otherwise would be quite content to remain pure Mac OSX user. I don't want to have to dump
my MacBook Pro over issues like this, but rather piqued at boot camp giving me so much trouble. I would rather run W7 natively on this macbook
rather than use some crap like parallel desktop which is horrible and slows performance down.
    Warm Regards,

PS - Mac fanboys unite, please help out a brother on this one.

    Hi Mr. Murphy,
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I don't believe anything is wrong with my hardware (bad ram, ESD, and etc). However, I do agree that there is something that the Windows installer doesn't like. I am already barebones, per say, as I am still running on out of factory hardware. Is there anyway I can verify that my hardware is working appropriately in Mac osx?
As for the DVD, it's legitimate copy and DVD from MS. I even tried the 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit. Hence, there is definitely something with my environment that it doesn't like. I just wish there was a way I could determine what that was.
I'll consider VM as a last resort, but what really weirds me out is that this went in two months ago and now it is not. Granted, I was operating on the first version of Lion.
I have this on warranty still. Would you advise I take this to a apple store and see what they find?
    Warm Regards,
    Geeky

  • I'm unable to complete installation of Firefox 7 on Windows 7 as it keeps asking to reboot to finish and never does finish the installation.

I'm in need of some assistance please.
I installed Mozilla Firefox 7 yesterday but it has failed to install properly. It keeps asking me to reboot to complete installation but never finishes. I've tried without success to un-install it but it won't un-install either because it never finished installing. I've done a system restore to prior to the install but still have the same problem. I'm at a loss on what to do now. I'd like to fix this without having to format my hard drive or reinstall Windows 7. I've since also tried downloading via a mirror site and installing an earlier version (6.02) but as V7 hasn't finished installing I get stuck with the boot error which reads 'Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous version of Firefox. Do you want to do that now?' I've done that at least 10 times with no success.

You gone about it the wrong way I'm afraid. For future reference; to update version 4.0 to 4.0.1 and for future editions, go to '''Help '''| '''About Firefox''' and then click the '''Check For Updates''' button.
I think what you'll have to do now is follow instructions in this article to uninstall it: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_firefox
Once you've achieved that goal, go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0.1] and download a fresh installation file to the desktop using either IE8 or 9. Save the file to your desktop when you see the prompt and then reinstall it from there.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I repurchased Garageband and I can't get passed the complete installation. I don't seem to have the "com.apple.garageband.plist" file that has been a common solution. Any suggestions?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I repurchased Garageband and I can't get passed the complete installation. I've read through several posts that all reference the "com.apple.garageband.plist" solution. I don't seem to have the referenced .plist. Any solutions or suggestions?

    Did you upgrade from SnowLeopard?
I can't get passed the complete installation
What exactly is happening? Is GarageBand trying to download over and over again?
all reference the "com.apple.garageband.plist" solution. I don't seem to have the referenced .plist.
The property list stores your preferences, but also the settings from the last run of the application.  If that file is corrupted in some way, you might see third behaviour.
You must have this file, for it will be recreated automatically, if it is missing, or you have a permissions problem with your user library.
Perhaps you did look in he wrong place.
in MacOS 10.7. or later the User Library is hidden. To find the Preferences Files use the Finder's "Go" menu:
Quit GarageBand, if it is running.
Click onto you Desktop to bring the Finder forward.
In the Finder Menu press "Go" and hold down the "option/alt" key, until your user library appears in the drop-down menu
Select "Library" and in the Finder window that opens navigate to the "Prederences" folder; move com.apple.garageband.plist to the Desktop.
Log off and on again (don't skip that step!). Retry GarageBand and see if it GarageBand is now downloading the missing content properly.
If that does not fix the problem, post back and explain in more detail what the download problem is.
Why did you "repurchase" GarageBand? If you already owned GarageBand '11, it should be unnecessary.
