Cloning from solaris 10 sparc to solaris 10 x86
Hi,
We would like to know if it is possible to clone from production instance solaris 10 sparc to test instance solaris 10 x86 (intel) in 11.5.10CU2.
And if yes or no is it possible in R12.1.2.
Thanks
Brice GuillardHi,
Is it possible to have the first node on solaris 10 x86 with the database and the other on solaris 10 sparc ?Not possible as this OS is not certified.
What happen with rapid clone if we clone the production instance full sparc to a test instance with solaris 10 x86 on the database and the application server on x86.Rapid Clone will not work on this target OS because it is not supported.

Retain SAMBA permissions while migrating from linux to solaris 10 x86
Hello,
We are migrating a system from Redhat to Solaris 10 x86 and this has brought up a question on how we can restore our SAMBA files and retain our permissions that are associated by the users name rather then their numeric ID(UID/GID). So far my research hasnt produced anything that gives a solid answer to how we do this and is it even possible.
The problem is that Windows user and group accounts are mapped locally per host by default. That mapping is defined as the accounts are referenced, so unless there is a way to guarantee the order of accounts being referenced, the mappings from Windows SIDs to Unix UIDs will be different between old and new.
If the data restoration option we choose for the new server is naive and restores only by UID and GID, the permissions in the ACLs will not map to the correct Windows accounts. We either must find a restoration option which restores permissions by name rather than ID or we must create a script which can automate pushing the ACLs into the restored filesystem correctly by name.
Initially I thought ufsdump could handle this but we are on ext3 filesystem going to vxfs. I have read a little on star but havent heard about it before. Has anyone used star for backup/restore for the purpose of retaining ACL ownership/permissions? It seems like its an old utility, maybe not used much anymore. Does anyone have a utility they have used for this purpose?
Your help is much appreciated!!
LRThe problem is that Windows user and group accounts are mapped locally per host by default. That mapping is defined as the accounts are referenced, so unless there is a way to guarantee the order of accounts being referenced, the mappings from Windows SIDs to Unix UIDs will be different between old and new.Is there anyway that you can sanitize and post a small snippet of what's going on with the mapping files? I think I can follow this but I'm a bit confused by the username/UID thing since usually if a username is defined in /etc/passwd than the files will display the username. If a username is not defined in /etc/passwd then the ls command will revert to just showing the numbers which I take it is what you don't want to happen.
If you could also sanitize and post even one of the acl's that might help clear up that portion of the problem as well.

Edited by: user3603544 on Feb 27, 2010 11:57 PMHi,
Hi,
I saw some of the files like bellow ^M not found.
/u01/mmapps/mmappscomn/admin/install/MMAPPS_tanouf/wdbsvr.sh: :^M: not found
/u01/mmapps/mmappscomn/admin/install/MMAPPS_tanouf/wdbsvr.sh: ^M: not found

/u01/mmapps/mmappscomn/admin/install/MMAPPS_tanouf/wdbsvr.sh: APPLBIN^M: is not an identifie
Seems that some of the files still in Windows format, You need to change those files format by typing the bellow command.
dos2unix /u01/mmapps/mmappscomn/admin/install/MMAPPS_tanouf/wdbsvr.sh /u01/mmapps/mmappscomn/admin/install/MMAPPS_tanouf/wdbsvr.sh
Do it with all the files.
Run again autoconfig, I am sure it will works.

Zone MIgration from V440 with Solaris 10 (118833-20) to M4000
Has anyone successfully migrated zones from V440 running Solaris 10 (118833-20) onto M4000 running Solaris 10 08/07?
Thanks! If you make sure the M4000 is running Solaris 10 10/08 then the zone should be upgraded the moment you attach the zone on the M4000.

How to export and import from AIX to solaris a whole schema with different
how to export and import from AIX to solaris a whole schema with different character set
import done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
import server uses WE8ISO8859P1 character set (possible charset conversion)
Import terminated successfully with warnings. The conversion between the character sets on the two servers are handled automatically. Export from one server will export the data given the character set defined on that server. Import into another server will import the data given the character set defined on that server, performing a conversion if necessary. This can be a problem when going from single-byte to a multi-byte character set. In your case, the warning is simply for your information, shoule be no real problem given the character sets you're using.

Invoke the secured webservice from BPEL in Solaris environment
Hi All,
Can any one tell me how to invoke the secured webservice from BPEL in Solaris environment as i am able to invoke the secured web service from BPEL in windows platform(soa suite 10.1.3.4).
we have applied 10.1.3.4 patch on solaris environment but we are not able to invoke the same.
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Nagaraju .DHi Nagaraju,
Read your post. We've somewhat the similar problem as yours as we are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]
but sttill, after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
“Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message”
As you have wriiten that you've already called a secured web service in windows platform ,so if you can please help me out in this issue.
I've opened a separate thread for this to avoid confusion. :-

Transfer file from an old Solaris
Hello,
I need to transfer some data from an old Solaris machine. I tried the following command:
ssh user@server
But I got a message saying "connection refused".
I also tried cuberduck and got the same message.
My question is how do I make this work?
thanks!Did you ssh from Mac to Solaris or vice versa?
If you did it from OS X try again with
ssh -1 user@server
-1 forces SSH protocol version 1 -
Failed exporting db from W2K to Solaris
I'm tring to import my DB (8i) from windows to solaris.
When I exported it in windows the charset was WE8ISO8859P1 and WE8ISO8859P1 NCHAR.
Now when trying to import obtained dmp file in unix I got following error:
Export file created by EXPORT:V08.01.07 via conventional path
import done in US7ASCII character set and US7ASCII NCHAR character set
IMP-00069: Could not convert to environment national character set's handle
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
how can I avoid this error?
Is there a way to convert charset?
Thanks in advice,
Yura. What is the setting of your nls_lang on the Windows workstation? You may have to temporarily change it to WE8ISO8859P1 when you run the export.

Solaris 10 sshd + GSSAPI auth appears to fail with long usernames.
Solaris 10 sshd using GSSAPI mode appears to fail with long usernames.
We have recently jumbo-patched solaris 10 server and windows 2k3 kerberos kdc. We wish to provide the single sign on thing for our Windows users, as written up in http://220-245-28-18.static.tpgi.com.au/~irvinee/gssapi-sol10/gssapi-howto.html
Everything is fine, until a user with a ten character username comes along. The ten character username does not get the single sign on experience
However, he can kinit fine on Solaris 10 server and also on other unix clients.
If I switch from the stock solaris 10 sshd to a self-compiled OpenSSH linked against MIT Kerberos, the 10 char username gets single-sign-on and all is well..
I note I have no problem when the server is FreeBSD 6.2 and the client is stock solaris 10 ssh.
It seems to be the Solaris 10 sshd only that is affected. Before I write up a bug report, has anyone else come across the same problem?I finally got it working. I think my problem was that I was coping and pasting the /etc/pam.conf from Gary's guide into the pam.conf file.
There was unseen carriage returns mucking things up. So following a combination of the two docs worked. Starting with:
http://web.singnet.com.sg/~garyttt/Configuring%20Solaris%20Native%20LDAP%20Client%20for%20Fedora%20Directory%20Server.htm
Then following the steps at "Authentication Option #1: LDAP PAM configuration " from this doc:
http://docs.lucidinteractive.ca/index.php/Solaris_LDAP_client_with_OpenLDAP_server
for the pam.conf, got things working.
