Cloning from Windows NT to Windows 2003

I wish to upgrade the OS of our PROD and TEST Servers from Windows NT Server to a fresh install of Windows 2003 Server.
I have managed to complete this on our Development System by performing a clean install of Windows 2003 Server and then cloning our existing TEST Server. This seems to have worked.
Is this a valid and recognised method for upgrading binary compatible Operating Systems?

You will need to export your input level data, and recreate the cubes on the target system. You will NOT be able to copy the page and index files over to migrate your data. Here are some other things to consider:- Your application/database settings- Your security information (filters, groups, and users)- All your calc scripts, reports, etc...- Linked objectsBe sure to give yourself plenty of time with access to the old server before it gets wiped, with parrallel testing if possible.Good Luck,

    Hi Dhomya,
If you mean Powershell Remoting, and if the domains don't have trust relationship, you can configure the setting "WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts".

Neither Oracle 8.0 nor 8i were releases on Windows 2003, they won't work and are not released.
So I'm afraid the only way you can go is Windows 2000.

  • Migration from Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Snow Leopard Server

    Hello,
I'm going to migrate a Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard to a Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server 10.6.x in a few weeks.
    I have 2 questions :
Is there an official process to migrate my Exchange server datas ?
Snow Leopard Server has it Wizards to help me to muigrate datas to proper services ?
    Thanx
    Regards,
Gil DERENNE aka --( dB )--

    Thank you for your reply
My network will be Apple only in a few time (1 server, 1 iMac and 1 Mac Pro).
Now, I want to replace server and all services installed on it :
    - Active Directory (replaced by Open Directory)
    - Users/Groups/machines
    - NAT/Firewall and Backup (will be replaced by a Time Capsule)
    - VPN for mobile access
    - File and Printer sharing
    - Fax Services with Fax/Modem 56K !oops! (replaced by a free service offer by my ISP)
    - Mail/Calendar/Address book and notes with Exchange (replaced by each service to serv right thing : Mail, iCal, Address book...).
I know what to do with all things but not for replacing Exchange and transfer datas to each similar service in Snow Leopard.
In the network, Mail Server will be used by Outlook with IMAP protocol and other services by web interface (Windows computers are not a problem for me, it can be alone and only access web if necessary).
The number of clients inside the LAN :
    - 2 iPhones
    - 1 iPod Touch
    - 1 PC Windows Vista (for a few time) with some VM (Linux and Windows)
    - 1 iMac 27' with 1 VM (Windows)
    - 1 LAN Printer HP Deskjet 6127 (RJ45 Static IP connection)
The number of clients outside the LAN :
    - 3 PC Windows XP
    - 2 PC Windows Vista
    - 5 Nokia Smart Phones
When I'm going to by the Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard Server, is there some support to help me to do it whith them and is it free or do I have to buy AppleCare to access to this service ?

  • Disabling SMB2 and SMB3 Client from Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

There are many programs that are using a shared file on the server from clients from XP to Windows 10. From time to time it seems like there is a network outage and the handle to the file is broken and the file
cannot be read or updated. It seems more prevalent on a Windows 2012 server but may have happened from time to time on 2008 & 2008 R2. However there are not any network problems so it just leaves the server & Client
I have searched for possible resolutions including:-
Turning  off the Cache for the share
Disabling the network adapter power setting to allow windows to put the device to sleep.
Disabling  Antivirus/configuring it to ignore folders for on access scanning
    Disabling SMB  Signing
Configuring the  clients DWORD registry value SilentForcedAutoReconnect=1 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\NetCache
Setting the "NET CONFIG SERVER /AUTODISCONNECT:-1" to not drop client
    connections
The last bit of trouble shooting that I can think of is to disable SMB2 and SMB3 as that does a lot of caching and batching of packets which could also be the cause of the problem.
    I have looked at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696547/en-us
I have disabled SMB2&3 on the server as that is very straight forward.
When I get to the section about disabling SMB2 on the client the command fails.
    sc config
    lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
After running the above command, it returns an error:
          [SC] ChangeServiceConfig FAILED 1059:
          Circular Service Dependency was specified.
So it's not worth running the following command:
    sc config mrxsmb20 start= disabled
I have tried the command on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 10 just to confirm that it's  nothing to do with any particular PC, machines in Domains and Non-Domain machines.
    So, my questions are:-
    1, is
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696547/en-us actually correct and up to date and for the OSes (Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 2012 server and Windows 10) with latest updates & service packs?
2, How do I disable SMB2 and SMB3 on clients for troubleshooting purposes the server to resolve problems with shared files (multi user access)
3, If I just disable SMB2 & 3 from the server would that force the clients not to use SMB2 when communicating with the server and therefore not caching the directory structure and file not found etc? I have seen posts that suggest this is not the case.
    4. Does sc.exe have a bug in it?
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

    Hi,
I made a test in our testing enviroment, everything works fine to disable SMB2 and 3. For your problem, in my opinion, as I didn't find any specific report about this error, it would be better to use Process Monitor to capture the trace when running the
    command.
Start Process Monitor, then set the filter as cmd.exe, after that, open CMD and execute the command.
    Process Monitor:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
In addition, I found another thread that had similar error with yours, you can take its solution as reference.

    Roger,
Many thanks for the time taken to look into this.
I've downloaded process monitor and loaded it. I filtered for cmd.exe started capture and saved a 1mb file.
However I don't think this is going to help unless you can point me in the direction of what you're expecting to see in the capture file? If you want me to send you it I can but it does contain personal information which I'd rather not place online.
You can recreate the problem yourself by doing the following:
    Go to modern.ie
Download any windows 7 virtual machine for your preferred of virtualisation  platform
log in, start cmd as administrator and run the command
    sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
You will also receive the same error.
    [SC] ChangeServiceConfig FAILED 1059:
    Circular Service Dependency was specified.
You can also try it on the Windows 8 and 8.1 machine if you have time.
I checked the link to the similar error and that just looks at the file not found problem which is the smb2 cache. They still didn't resolve the slow access to the share which is seen on a machine that has anti-virus on it when you go to right click
on the folder or a file in the folder. It's about a 20 second (spinning circle) pause every time. The problem is bigger than that. If you have shared files on the network share that are used by multiple people at the same time, say a spreadsheet or database
file windows is loosing the connection to that file so the user cannot write to it even if they have the file open. The smb2 caching shouldn't cause that problem.
It appears that I have to disable from SMB2 and SMB3 and ensure that the clients only use SMB1.
If SMB2 & SMB3 are disabled from the lanmanworkstation service the clients will not do any caching even if the server has disabled the share cache (offline files for that share).
The problem with the "Circular reference" error message is standard across all versions of windows that have "smb2" or "smb2 and smb3". Can you recreate that problem? Or is it working on your windows computer and on the machines
    downloaded from modern.ie ?
My testing has shown that the command "sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi" does not work. Therefore that's the one I want to resolve first. By resolving that I may be able to get the clients accessing the share to behave
themselves and use the shared files correctly as they always did from Windows 95/NT4 through to Windows XP and 2003/2008 server.
I'm unable to recreate the problem with multiple users having access to shared database files on windows 2012 server from Windows 7 clients were the access to the files drops once a day or once every couple of days.
    Kindest Regards
    Robert

  • How can I connect 10.4 Mac to Windows Small Business Server 2003?

I have seen some other discussions touching on this topic and have tried the various solutions but am getting nowhere. I can't connect my iBook, which is running Tiger, to our office's server, a Windows Small Business Server 2003. I am the only Mac user and as a Mac devotee actually spent my own hard cash for the iBook. (I work for a non-profit with low funds.) Previously, when our office had a different server and I had Panther, I could access the server. Then it was purely an academic exercise, since I had no need to access the shared files. Now I have a project that requires this, and I am stumped. Our part-time IT consultant is also stumped. We have tried a lot of the suggestions from other posts, to no avail. I suggested to the IT guy that there could be a problem regarding the encryption of my password, and I think he tried that. We have tried various versions of the domain name. The server comes up in the list when I follow the "go--connect to server--browse" path, but we come up empty. We've gotten error message -36, a message that we are trying to connect an alias to something that can't be found, and a message that we don't have enough information to go any further (something like that). I am writing from my eMac at home, so I can't reconstruct the situation right now. I have found in my extensive internet search that Thursby has something called ADmitMac that is pretty expensive software ($119 for one person) that I could install on the iBook and could help me access the Windows Small Business Server 2003 without doing anything else to the server. Does anyone know if that would that work? Any suggestions would be so appreciated!
eMac and iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have specific errors listed below:
Actually, I have been encountering similar problems.  I have an end user who wants to connect to an SBS 2003 server, and can not connect/use RWW because the Active X will not work, cannot use the VPN in PPTP mode because Windows 8 disallows the connection
("Error 942: The connection could not be established because the authentication method used by your connection profile is not permitted for use by an access policy configured on the RAS/VPN server."), and cannot use an L2TP VPN connection because it requires
a certificate "Error 766: A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSEC require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate.".  I attempted to utilize the SBS Connection Tool downloaded
from RWW, but it fails with a proxy error ("Unable to execute custom script (Configure proxy settings for IE). Required file could be missing." - likely due to the PPTP tunnel it tries to use). I went so far as to install the Enterprise CA on the server, installed
    the Hotfix
(KB922706) so that the website could be accessed from Vista and above, and installed the requested certificate.  The VPN fails to connect after
it times out and fails to negotiate a connection.  This last one is "Error 789: L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer
encountered a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer."
I have screenshots to share if anyone cares to see.  I really just get the feeling that Microsoft is trying to kill SBS 2003 by ingoring it into oblivion.
The VPN works fine with Windows 7 clients by the way.

  • Back to my Mac through Windows Small Business Server 2003

I have been able to use Back to my Mac from my work to access by home Mac. I have an airport extreme base station at my home. At work, I have Windows Small Business Server 2003 functioning as the firewall, DHCP router, basically everything. I cannot access my Mac at work from home. I figure something needs to be opened up in the Windows SBS box, but I can't figure what I need to do nor how to do it. Any ideas?

You don't need to do anything special on the SBS 2003. Simply create shares on the folders you want to access. Then on your Mac use the Network icon which will search your network for any shares (this is similar to the My Network Places in Windows). Once your Mac OS discovers the share and you double click on it, if you have any type of security (NTFS) permissions, Mac OS will prompt you to enter a username/password/domain and the ability to save the credentials.

  • Db migration from Solaris 8i to windows 10g

There is requirement to move db from solaris8(dbversion8170 to window Server 2003 (10204 already installed)
DB is about 80gb big, what would be the best approach ?
I am thinking to create new db on windows, and export and import data.....any concerns/suggestion?
    Source System
    SQL> select * from v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
    CORE 8.1.7.0.0 Production
TNS for Solaris: Version 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 3.4.1.0.0 - Production
    Target System
    SQL> select * from v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE 10.2.0.4.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

what are other options i can try ?I only mention this approach because you asked. I wouldn't recommend it as a general strategy. exp/imp is the most straight-forward.
We are in the process of migrating from 9.2.0.6 to 11.1.0.7 (11.2 is not an approved standard yet in our enterprise), moving from Solaris to Linux, and consolidating two related instances into one.
We had to handle some unique situations due to our consolidation, so we did a lot of the steps manually that exp/imp does for you. A side benefit of this extra work is the actual down time is can be less than exp/imp itself, and avoids the need to dump all the data to disk and read it all again. We have about 500GB to migrate. It is a lot more work than a simple exp/imp, and is probably not be worth the effort for a single 80GB instance.
Our steps (oversimplified, there are more details than this) :
Set up the new instance and configure storage
Create users and roles in new DB
export structure only (using 9i exp)
import structure only (using 11g imp), without indexes or constraints
copy data (insert /*+APPEND*/ into.. select * from ... over a database link)
    create indexes and constraints
Handling LONG data, materialized views, interdependencies between schemas each presented their own special circumstances I had to deal with.
The other path to get from 8i to 10g (mentioned only for academic reasons) is do a series of upgrades-in-place to get from 8i to 10.2.0.4 then use cross-platform transportable tablespaces to go from Solaris to Windows.

  • PSUS4 and Windows 7 and Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

I have a small domain network with Windows Server 2003 , Windows 7 desktop, Windows XP desktop.  I have an HP LaserJet P3005 printer.   I need to be able to print to the HP printer from all of the computers (server, Win 7 and win XP).    I have a PSUS4 print server. Is there a way to setup the PSUS4 so that my server, Win 7 and Win XP computers could print to the HP printer?   For example, If I setup the Print Server on the XP computer with TCP/IP port, could I share it to the server and Windows 7 computers?

Do you have any router or switch?
Or all the computers are connected to windows server through a switch?
PSUS4 must be connected to the router or the DHCP server so that it will get IP address and all the computers will be able to print.

"Windows XP sp3"/"Windows 2003 sp2" the connection is much faster, it's immediate.
The instants client of both servers are the same, they were installed several versions, like: 10.2.0.1, 10.2.0.5, 11.1.0.6, 11.2.0.1 and the results
