Cloning Non EBS Database with Rapid Clone.

Hi DBAs,
It might sound weird but I was curious that - Can you clone the regular oracle database (Non EBS) using rapid clone. Lets suppose if I copy over appsutil directory from a EBS database and manually edit the context file with current instance information. Also if I need to do some changes in shell/perl scripts of rapid clone etc.
Have any one done it in past by doing some magic and tricks or Is there automated script based cloning available for regular databases?
Thanks
-Naveed-

Hi Naveed,
I believe it is not possible as Rapid Clone is an Oracle Apps utility, so Oracle does not support cloning non-Apps databases using Rapid Clone.
In addition, there is no context file or AutoConfig in such a database, which is required for Rapid Clone to work properly.
Is there automated script based cloning available for regular databases? For this cloning, you can use the manual method, export/import, or RMAN.

  • Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone

    Hi,
I was going through metalink doc 406982.1 Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone.
    I couldn't understand a few points.
I would appreciate if someone can guide me regarding the following queries.
There is a statement in the doc
1)An important principle in Oracle Applications cloning is that the system is cloned, rather than the topology ....
--What is meant by topology in this description?
2)The Cloning methodology posted on this document requires full Autoconfig complience.
    --didn't get this point.
3)Note: In the copying tasks below, UNIX/Linux users should ensure that the symbolic links (soft links) are preserved when copying. On most UNIX platforms, this can be accomplished with the cp -RH command. Consult the UNIX man page for the cp command to check the parameters available on your platform.
--what soft links are being talked about?will the regular cp -R  command not preserve the soft links?
4)For patching AutoConfig on the E-Business Suite R12 instance, AutoConfig needs to be enabled on both the applications tier and the database tier. (387859.1)
--HOw do I check if AutoConfig is enabled or not?
5)Why do I need to synchronize appsutil on database tier from application tier?
6)Why do we need to maintaain snapshot information?
    What does snapshot actually do?

  • Can you access non-Oracle database with HTML DB?

Can you access non-Oracle database with HTML DB? If not, will this be possible in the future?
I realize HTML DB is not an open-source product. However, it is necessary sometimes to get non-Oracle database info. JDeveloper supports this. It does not appear to me that HTML DB does. This is a major drawback to it being a product for more potential applications that rely on other database technology such as MySQL, etc.
If it is possible, is this brain surgery to do it. HTML DB offers fast simplified development and it would be good if it was built in. Does anyone know of an example of accessing non-Oracle database that is available?

    12282,
In general, HTML DB gives you access to Oracle database facilities. These include heterogeneous services. Please search this forum for keyword "heterogeneous" and you can follow the threads that interest you.
As for the comparison with brain surgery, I'd rank them about the same in terms of raw thrill.

There once existed an opensource servermodel called phakt
    that used the
    ADODB database abstraction library,
the company that created and supported it was bought by Adobe
    and
    subsequently the project was cancelled.
A group of people (including me) started a community
    initiative@
    http://openphakt.sourceforge.net
to continue distribution and development of
phakt, but unfortunately I don't have access to Dreamweaver
    CS3 due to lack
    of funding.
Phakt will almost certainly NOT run on CS3 in it's current
    state, but is
    should support previous versions.

  • EBS 12.1.3 & clone from non-shared to shared appl tier: adcfgclone.pl error

    Hi,
we have Oracle EBS 12.1.3 with 11gR2 in IBM AIX7.1. We are now cloning it from a non-shared appl tier to a shared appl tier. Shared appl tier is located in the network drive which uses NetApp.
    I've been following these documents:
    - Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone (Doc ID 406982.1)
    - Sharing The Application Tier File System in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 [ID 384248.1]
    - Using Load-Balancers with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (Doc ID 380489.1)
DB clone went without problems, but now I'm getting strange problems when trying to run adcfgclone.pl for apps tier:
    "applmgr@myhost:/d01/shared_mount/apps/apps_st/viscomn/clone/bin # perl adcfgclone.pl appsTier

    This file exists:
    /d01/shared_mount/apps/apps_st/viscomn/clone/context/apps/CTXORIG.xml
I've tried to re-execute the cloning steps for app tier, but the problem persists.
I've cloned from non-shared to non-shared app tier without problems, so I have a feeling that this might be related to the shared network drive.
Any ideas how to solve this problem?

    TH

    Hi Hussein,
    thanks for the reply.
+The path is different (first path is db while the second one is apps), so copy the file from the source instance to $COMMON_TOP/clone/context/apps directory on the target instance and try then -- Troubleshooting RapidClone issues with Oracle Applications R12 [ID 603104.1]+
What I meant to say that CTXORIG.xml already exists in the correct directory in the target system:
    $COMMON_TOP/clone/context/apps
Anyways, I recopied the file from source to the target system $COMMON_TOP/clone/context/apps, but still the same problem. I'll continue reading "Troubleshooting RapidClone issues with Oracle Applications R12 [ID 603104.1]".
I noticed below when running "perl adcfgclone.pl appsTier" with perl debug mode:

The new issue is there is an another 10g RAC database with 10g Clusterware has been installed in this server and the cloned 9i RAC need to co-exist with this 10g RAC database.
I am thinking to use 10g clusterware to manager 9i RAC database.
From cloning point of view, how to clone a 9i RAC database to an environment with 10g clusterare.
Should I use 9i oracle home 9.2.0/appsutil/clone/bin/adcfgclone.pl or should I use 10g oracle home adcfgclone.pl?

    Hi,
production is 9.2.0.8 RAC Need to clone production to lower instance using Rapid Clone. Has done such clone before.I did not try this type of clone before. However, I believe you cannot use 10g ORACLE_HOME as cloning 11i instance with Rapid Clone on 10g database requires additional manual steps which cannot be applied to the 9i ORACLE_HOME. From Rapid Clone point of view, I believe you need to issue adcfgclone.pl from the 9i ORACLE_HOME

  • 11i Rapid Clone Not Certified With 10g/11g RAC???

Metalink document 230672.1, "Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with Rapid Clone" was updated Feb. 2009 with the following:
    February 04, 2009
    - Added 11i/10g/11g RAC clarification on Section 4 Steps 6 and 7.
    - Corrected incorrect format statements.
    The clarification?
Attention: The following steps apply only for 9i RAC Clusters. Rapid Clone is not certified for Cloning 11i with 10g or 11g RAC Systems at this time.
10g RAC support for EBS has existed for quite a while, what's up with this? I'm in the middle of upgrading my 11i EBS on 9i RAC environments to 10gR2 RAC.
Anyone cloning 11i with 10g/11g RAC? How are you doing it?
    Disgusted,
    Jerry

Take a look Doc ID: 230672.1 on Metalink Section 6 talks about Cloning a RAC system
If you're trying to search for anything on EBS look for Applications 11i, because most docs refer to it as Applications 11i more often then EBS.

You need to apply the Patch first.
    Download p9171651_R12.OAM.B_R12_GENERIC.zip Patch.
    Stop Applications.
Apply the Patch with adpatch and use driver file u9171651.drv.
Post steps to be done as listed below as per Patch Readme.
    Description
This patch must be applied on all the APPL_TOPs.
If your system is implemented as a Shared Application Tier File System,
you need to apply this patch only once, on any one of the application
tier nodes. However, AutoConfig must be executed on all the Nodes.
This patch can be applied on 12.1 or higher.
    Post Install Steps
After applying this patch, update all Database Tier Nodes with the code level
provided by this patch, by performing the following steps :
    1. On the Application Tier (as the APPLMGR user):
. Source the environment variables for Oracle Applications
    UNIX:
    . ./<APPL_TOP>/APPS<CONTEXT_NAME>.env
    Windows:
    <APPL_TOP>\envshell<CONTEXT_NAME>.cmd
. Run AutoConfig on the APPL_TOP
. Execute admkappsutil.pl utility to create the file appsutil.zip
    perl <AD_TOP>/bin/admkappsutil.pl
This will create appsutil.zip in <INST_TOP>/admin/out
    Note:
For exact details on how to run Autoconfig and how to create appsutil.zip,
please refer to Metalink Note 387859.1.
    2. On the Database Tier (as the ORACLE user):
. Source the environment variables for RDBMS ORACLE_HOME
    UNIX:
    cd <RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>
    . ./<RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>/<CONTEXT_NAME>.env
    Windows:
    <RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>\<CONTEXT_NAME>.cmd
. Copy or FTP the appsutil.zip file to the <RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>
    . Uncompress appsutil.zip under the <RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>
    cd <ORACLE_HOME>
    unzip -o appsutil.zip
    . Run AutoConfig on the <RDBMS ORACLE_HOME>
    Note:
For exact details on how to run Autoconfig on the dbTier and how transfer
the AutoConfig updates from the APPL_TOP to the RDBMS ORACLE_HOME please
refer to Metalink Note 387859.1, Section 2, Step 3 (Patching AutoConfig).
    3. Re-run adpreclone.pl on the dbTier and appsTier
    Warning:
Since new updates included on this patch have been applied to the system,
Adpreclone must be executed again in order to apply them into the clone
    directory structures used during cloning.
    perl adpreclone.pl dbTier
    perl adpreclone.pl appsTier
    Note:
For exact details on how to run adpreclone.pl, please refer to Metalink
    Note 406982.1.

  • New Rapid clone document

we have EBS R12.1.2 and plan to do the farm clone. on database side we will use database "hot backup".
Does any one know where is clone document which relate to "hot backup"?
Can I use RMAN backup or not? if YES any document?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In addition to the document referenced above, please see:
Note: 799735.1 - Rapid Clone Documentation Resources, Release 11i and 12
Note: 807597.1 - How to deal with common issues on the Database Tier when cloning with Rapid clone
You can use RMAN, but I believe there is no specific document on how to use RMAN.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Rapid Clone finishing step

    Hi Guys,
Hope you had a great weekend.
    need a little help here.
part of Rapid of clone finishing steps is
    Table Name column name TASK
FND_FORM_FUNCTIONS      WEB_AGENT_NAME      Update to point at the new PLSQL listener name
THIS States to update column WEB_AGENT_NAME of the FND_FORM_FUNCTIONS table to point to the new PLSQL listener name.
Ok which is the PLSQL listener name?
is it the database listener name or is this the APPS listener name?
Please need clarification here and the best way to update.
    thanks in Advance

Hi Arnoud, Hussien, and others :)
    I am also reading....
Subject: Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone
    Doc ID: Note: 406982.1
Since they are mostly related to my EBS migrate from 32bit to 64bit. It seems cloning also since my 32bit (source) is still running in production, paralleling with the tartget (64bit) on separate server.
In item #3 of Section 3: Finishing Tasks (of 406982.1)
    It says
    3. Update Workflow configuration settings
    ===============================
Cloning an Oracle Applications instance will not update the host and instance specific information used by Oracle Workflow. Review the following tables and columns to verify there is no instance specific data in the Workflow configuration on the target system.
Table Name      Column Name      Column Value Details
WF_NOTIFICATION_ATTRIBUTES      TEXT_VALUE      Value starts with http://<old web host> : Update to new web host
WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES      TEXT_VALUE      Value starts with "http://<old web host> : Update to new web host
WF_SYSTEMS      GUID      Create a new system defined as the new global database name using the Workflow Administrator Web Applications responsibility.
WF_SYSTEMS      NAME      Value needs to be replaced with the database global name
WF_AGENTS      ADDRESS      Update database link with the new database global name.
FND_FORM_FUNCTIONS      WEB_HOST_NAME      Update with the new web host name
FND_FORM_FUNCTIONS      WEB_AGENT_NAME      Update to point at the new PLSQL listener name
FND_CONCURRENT_REQUESTS      LOGFILE_NAME      Update with the correct path to the logfile directory
FND_CONCURRENT_REQUESTS      OUTFILE_NAME      Update with the new directory path on the target system
    ==============
Do I update these tables using sqlplus? The docs did not explain in detail how to update them. I thought the book warns that sqlplus should not be used in updating EBS data.
The owner of these tables is APPLSYS. What is its default password of APPLSYS?
    Thanks a lot
