Cloning Oracle APPS Rac Database to Non Rac Databse

Hi all,
I have question.
Presently we are following RMAN duplicate database cloning from RAC asm to (non RAC)non asm database of size 1TB.
If suppose if our databse is 3TB or More. then is there method that we can minimize the cloning time. If so please let me know.

I am doing RAC to RAC cloning on linux 5 following is the note id i follow
Cloning Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 RAC-Enabled Systems with Rapid Clone [ID 559518.1]
In this note step 4.2 we use adclone.pl to prepare the stage on source using "Method=Rman", i think this creates image backup of the database on source system
In step 5.1.4.1 we restore the database on target using the stage backup we took in source.
So, here i was thinking if it is possible to use Netbackup server (tapes) for "rmanstage=" parameter. Because we don't have that much disk space to accommodate backup and as with Rman duplicate database we directly connect to tape with auxiliary for cloning, Please let me know if we can use this process with the above adclone.pl

Yes what you want is allowed, you are free to clone your DB using rman outside of the cloning utilities.

Oracle Apps Standard Database Views not appearing in OBIEE

Hi
I am trying to select the Standard database views of oracle apps.
for example PO_HEADERS_V, PO_LINES_V.....etc.
I am unable to see in the (import metadata ) page.
I have selected the options (Tables, Keys, forign key, View)

What do you mean by "changes don't appear"? Don't appear where? Are you using row-wise initialization of the Group variable? If so, have you turned off caching for it?

Cloning oracle apps environment -- scripting

Just curious.
Does someone here clone oracle apps by just scripting it?

You can clone the env using scripts.
Even if rapidclone does most of the work there is still some manual work associated. For ex: Updating workflow tables/Concurrent mgr logs things like that.
So what you need to do is to document every step on the way to a clone and put them together. For ex: You can call an RMAN script to duplicate the database and run some sql scripts to update the tables listed above.
On the Apps side too you can complete most of the steps by putting all the commands in a a batch.
The only part that has to be done manually is editing the concurrent managers to run on the new node.

i am using metalink doc 406982.1 for cloning procedures. but i would like to know that do i need to shut down database or application tiers while preparing applications for cloning??
it is not asked to shut down any tier while you run adpreclone.pl, that;s why i got confused..
i also faced following error when i tried to update the current snapshot information for complete APPL_TOP

We are planning to upgrade our db..please suggest me how much downtime i have ask with our clients ...
Our Database Size is 35GB.
Please suggest me what ais the action plan / precautions we need to take.Because this is first time am doing Up gradation.

Our Database Size is 35GB.No one can estimate the time for you as this depends on many factors (number of CPUs, how much memory you have, ..etc). The best practice is to upgrade the database on a test instance which is identical to your production database (cloned recently) and estimate the time it takes to complete the upgrade.
Please suggest me what ais the action plan / precautions we need to take.Because this is first time am doing Up gradation.Again, the best practice is to upgrade a a test instance and list all the issues you may encounter when you upgrade your production database. Please note that you can install the new ORACLE_HOME and the companion/example CD before starting the upgrade itself and without a downtime.

Calling OCS webservices from Oracle apps 9i database

Hi I want to know if there is any documentation on how to call OCS web services directly from 9i database on which our oracle E-Bussiness Suite 11.5.10 is running.
There is a metalink note on calling ocs java api using load java utility. I am not looking at this but I want to call directly web service( SOAP xml etc) from 9i PL/SQL. Where can I get more info on this? All I see is Java Web services API.

Is there any way to upload files into OCS using standard web services? I am not talking about ocs java api on the top of web services.
I have been looking into getting more info but I am not able to get any help on this.
If OCS is completely supporting webservices, then Why are webservices are not exposed?
We have many client applications, from which we want to upload documents into OCS. Is there any sample code using java on how to call OCS web services( not the ocs java API) to upload content into OCS?

Oracle Apps R12 Cloning

Hi,
I'm cloning oracle apps R12. I followed metalink document [ID 406982.1]. while i'm coping the application tier files from source to target system,It is showing error that 27 files are not copied. Tried copying through ftp,external device. But in every task of copying, some files didnt copy. Pls tel me the way so that i can copy the apps tier files completely without missing even the single file.

You can make it tar and can copy it,by the way cant you copy 27 files manualy?In our scenario, we copied through filezilla ftp, the entire VIS folder which is into the u01/oracle path. It takes nearly 12 hours to move the entire VIS folder and finally 27 files has been failed in the queue. again we made a reset and tranfered the 27 files but it failed to reset the queue and i dont know how to find the ftp log.
If we do a manuall copy, it shows an error "symbolic link files cannot be copied".
We also did a tar copy. but we get a error msg as "tar: Error is not recoverable; existing now". We used a command "tar -jc /path/to/your/folder > /path/to/your/backup_file.tar.bz2" to copy as a tar file.

Oracle 11gR2 alter database open hangs for a long time

Hi,
We are cloning oracle apps database with RAC to non-RAC. We did the ORACLE_HOME clone and then duplicated the database with rman.
It completed successfully.
While trying to bounce the database, the db startup option hangs at "alter database open" for a long time
There are no errors in the alert log file. It just waits at "alter database open"
Please help and thanks in advance.

I need to list all users who were granted particular function (suppliers) from oracle apps R12 database. User -->Resp -->Menu --> Submenu/function. I have two queries like the following

Oracle database not starting up in oracle 10g RAC

Hi!
Recently I came across one problem with one node oracle 10g RAC.When the Oracle database is started,while opening it is giving ORA-03113:End of file on communication channel error.When I saw the the alert trace file and other trace files I found Disk group is exhausted error and it is not able to create .dbf files.Actually it is not a production server and I gave archive log destination in SAN.Even the spfile(content of init_database.ora) is in SAN..
I tried Asmcmd utility to delete the archive log files.As the oracle is not available I am not able to asmcmd prompt.
How to change the destination of archive log and to remove the old archive log files(as it is a testing environment we can remove) from SAN?Please let me know.

So far, Oracle has always refused to support database on OS virtualized on VMWare (or any VM software other than Oracle VM). Based on that, you could be sure, your "known issue" is not an issue on Oracle VM.
If you want more help, again, give more details about your issue.

Install Oracle 11G, RAC with VMWare, APPS R12, and OBIEE on one server?

Dear Experts,
I'm looking to upgrade my skills, and want to learn more of:
Oracle 11G, RAC, VMWare, APPS R12, and OBIEE
My server has two quad cores (8 CPU altogether) and 16 gigs of RAM.
Years ago, I took a shots at installing RAC on multiple servers and firewire.
One thing I remember was that after I installed RAC, I was not able to use the database unless I enabled all the RAC processes on the server. So, I was not able to just boot the database and use it in the traditional single server manner.
Which I will also want to do.
1) Does this symptom/aspect/characteristic of RAC install still exist?
2) Is it realistic to install all this software on one server?
If so, what is the order of operations for the install?
3) If I have to prioritize, I'd like to install
Oracle 11G, OBIEE, and APPS R12,
Would installing R12 and OBIEE on the same server present any conflicts or issues?
If not, what is the order of operations for the install?

11G, R12, then OBIEE?There will not be any conflicts. I would suggest you to select vmware or virtual box in order to configure all these sw's.
I have done such a configuration on my laptop with i7 Quad processor, 16GB RAM and 640 GB HDD.
I have Installed 2 node RAC, 2 Node ERP and all are running smoothly without any issues.

DBEdit spfile and set cluster_database=false before starting database in upgrade mode(optionally you can unset other cluster parameters).
So you upgrade using only 1 instance of database.
Once the upgrade is finished start the other instance as well and set cluster_database=true

RAC RMAN BACKUP Recovery FOR Oracle APPS Application

Hi,
We have an Application which is similar to Oracle APPs application and We have a RAC Database at Backend.
As I am a Oracle RAC DBA and never worked as an Oracle apps DBA.
Each Week or month We have to deploy a patch on Our Database which are kind of sql changes to Database and before we applying we need to backup our Database.
I am very comfortable while applying patches on Single instance Database:-
I Usually shutdown my database and backing up My Database(Conistent\cold Backup) before applying patch.
and I have a Flash back on both option I am having for my Database.
Problem:-
But in Production I have RAC Database, on which I already configured Hot Backup.
FlashBackup Feature is there with me, but Not reliable.
I want cold backup along with my existing hot backup, and want to restore same if something goes wrong.
Since ASM is configured so we have only option RMAN backup.
IF possible kindly Share your knowledge and Experience of your to handle Such Problem.

RMAN is already configured for backing up database online.
My only intention is to have cold or consistent backup before applying application patch, So that at the time of crisis I will resotre my Cold/Conistent backup.
Because I am using 11gr2 RAC with ASM, so only option is there for me to use rman as backup tool.
But I never tried to Have Cold backup in RAC environment in my previous jobs, and I am new to this Oracle APPS DBA technology. So Here I am looking for a Strategy that Normally oracle apps dba use while applying patch to Oracle Database and kind of backup strategy they use.
